I love stopping by after dinner to grab a late night dessert! For how busy they always are, the service is pretty timely. I also really appreciate how flexible they are to modified requests. I hired Alpha Dessert Houston to cater a party for 150 people, alongside five other vendors. Every other vendor arrived on time, was fully prepared, and received glowing reviews and multiple referrals from my guests. Unfortunately, Alpha Dessert was over an hour late and completely unprepared to serve as the event started, which threw off the entire schedule and caused unnecessary stress for me and my guests. When I tried to give the owner honest feedback about how their lateness and lack of preparation affected my event, instead of offering a sincere apology or taking responsibility, I was told that my tone was the problem. I come here about once a month for Indian dessert. It is super casual spot. You order up at the counter and pick up your order when it's ready. I usually order the "Rabri Delight" which is ice cream/kulfi covered with rabri and some nuts. Rabri is a thick creamy topping and the closest thing I can compare it to is condensed milk, but even that is not really close... I usually bring my friends who are looking to try something new to this unassuming spot for the desserts, and they fall in love. This place has rebranded it's name to Alpha Juice & Cafe. The place is quite known for its desserts, specially Falooda, along with freshly made juice. Post rebranding it has also started serving snacks like Pani Puri and others. We ordered Original Falooda, Lahori Falooda and Pistachio Kulfi. I found Kulfi to be okayish, not sweet enough too. I guess should have had ordered Original Kulfi as well. Falooda is a North Indian or probably migrated from Middle East to India. It's basically some vermicelli with Kulfi or ice cream with some nuts. I really liked the Lahori Falooda, which had Kulfi on the top. Whereas the original was good too. The original Falooda was rose flavored. The portion size is big, so I'd suggest sharing it with at least one person unless you have a really sweet tooth and can eat the whole thing. The milkshakes are really good and if you're looking for a crazy decorated milkshake, this is one of the only places in Houston I know of that does them. The birthday cake shake was good and the Macarons on top were surprisingly really well made. They were chewy and fresh and I loved that they came with the shake! I did give 4 stars though because these milkshakes are very expensive and we did not know that before we drove all the way way there. I knew they would be more expensive than a normal shake because of the way they looked but they were like 11 dollars each which is pretty high for a shake. The original establishment is probably trying to reinvent itself to have a broader appeal and it also appears to be working. This used to be a more inside only haunt for south Asian connesiuers of fruit desserts and fruit juices and milk shakes. There were several items that were not available when we visited but I tried the Rabri which is a thick syrupy and very filling milk solids dessert with crushed nuts and generally associated with the southern sindh province of Pakistan The rose falooda is thinner than it generally is and probably needs more ice cream in the mix. The Chikoo milk shake was just the way I have tasted it in south Asia as well. I just worry a little about the hygiene though. The bathroom was not functioning and it was quite disgusting in there actually If they don't care what the bathroom looks like it just worries me about the overall hygiene issues. read more

Came here for dessert after a ridiculously filling lunch buffet down the street at Bhojan on a Friday on the recommendation of my coworker, who's Pakistani. It was going to be a day full of gastronomic pleasure! The place, according to her, was newly renovated because she was there a couple of weeks before and it looked different. I don't know how different - just different. Just know that the decor is new. :) There are some simple tables and chairs scattered around and what looked like one person working the front and a person in the back, making the desserts/drinks. Don't expect much friendliness or even a smile because I didn't really see one. They had a steady trickle of customers. The place wasn't very clean - the tables still had bits of food crumbs scattered about - but the area was open and well lit. They seem to specialize in desserts - mainly falooda (an ice cream-milk-noodle dessert of varying flavors) and some smoothies. I'm intrigued by the sugar cane juice since I love it, but I've only had the Vietnamese version. I wonder if Pakistani sugar cane juice is any different? However, I wanted to indulge a bit, but not too much, so I got the kulfi (Indian/Pakistani ice cream.. I believe they're made with condensed milk?). They also offer some savory options (I recall reading something about a burger), but it's mainly all about the sweets. The important stuff. They make their own kulfi. If you look over the counter, there's a section with these molds with little wooden sticks coming out of them. Those are kulfi molds. They have several different flavors like malai (milk/original), pistachio, and mango. I think they also have chocolate and strawberry as well, but don't quote me on that. I got the pistachio. The lady took it out of its metal mold, wrapped the bottom in some wax/parchment paper, wrapped that in a paper napkin, and handed it to me. Awesome. The kulfi was good - the texture 'thicker'/creamier (more solid?) than your usual ice cream and they use REAL pistachios. It's also not too sweet! My two coworkers got the Kashmiri Falooda, which was reportedly very good. I got a taste of the ice cream portion of it. It's like a Pakistani/Indian version of a root beer float, but no root beer. I can't really make a final decision, though, since I only got the ice cream and not the liquid or the other items in there. I'm mainly worried on if it's too sweet. I may visit again so I can try the full cup (and probably share it; it's a pretty decent sized cup). My Pakistani coworker who's a regular said she likes the place because they use real stuff and not flavorings, so when you're there during mango season, their mango-flavored stuff is divine. Basically, good place to get a sweet treat. I highly recommend the kulfi based on my taste. Service is okay and cleanliness could be a lot better. However, just based on the food, I'd definitely return if I'm in the area. UPDATE: I finally returned and got their Original Falooda. I went with my sister and a friend and we all shared that one cup. It surprisingly reminds me of a Vietnamese dessert drink called Suong Sa Hot Luu (it's actually my favorite Vietnamese dessert drink and the flavors are very, VERY similar) but a little sweeter, probably due to the ice cream. The flavor is hard to describe unless you've tasted it, but it has these surprising bits of rice noodles (among other things) and is colorful, in the pink sense. A very unnatural color, really, but it's an occasional treat so I ignored it. I enjoyed it, but would probably share it with one other person (it comes with two scoops of ice cream/kulfi!).
