Had an awful, unprofessional experience. Job was told it would get done "same day". Showed up late, quoted me something significantly different once they showed up, measured the window thickness by "tapping on the window" even after physically measuring the glass in the store, left and didn't call back. I called the store hours later, the owner Brett cussed me out after I asked him simple questions regarding my broken window. He sounded very drunk, hung up. I called back and asked for him to clarify why that just happened and just wanted a clear explanation. He said he could get two guys out tomorrow to do the window. I asked what time and what their names would be and he became profusely racist about his workers and didn't know their names. "I don't know one is a brown guy and one has brown hair I don't know what does it matter!" He did the same thing again, cussing, yelling, got even angrier and hung up again. This could be one of the most incompetent retail stores in Portland. (Why can't we give ZERO "stars"??) I just needed a replacement piece of glass for my outdoor table's top - just a square shape 34" on a side. I went there in person, and spoke to an employee, who wrote down the dimensions, my name and phone, and said he would give it to the owner, in an hour, for a quote. I heard nothing. Several days later, I called and spoke to the owner himself. He had no record of my previous request. I gave him the same info (dimensions, name, phone number), and he said he would call back right away with a quote. Days elapsed: no quote or contact. I phoned again today. He was clueless. He put me on hold for quite a while, to "look around". When he came back on the line, he said (and I quote literally): "I have something here - but it has no name, or phone number." This!, even though I had given the dimensions, my name, my phone number... to him personally, some days before. What a clown! I would suggest people avoid this place at all costs. All I saw with this company was total incompetence, on three occasions. (Interestingly, on Google Reviews of this place, about half the reviews gave 1 star - and complain bitterly about incompetence, failed work, failed business practices, overcharging, etc. The other half gives 5-star ratings. There is virtually nothing in-between 1-star and 5-star ratings, although, as we know, the people who give 1-star ratings, like me, desperately wish they could give ZERO stars. I was told that my product would be done in 5 days...after I hadn't heard back in 10 days, I showed up and was told that it came back defective And had to be redone. I had been unhappy about the huge price. Was told the supplier raised their prices about 50%.... Really hard to believe. NEVER USE ALPINE! This company has the absolute worst customer service I have ever know. From the beginning, it took them 5 months from bid to installation. They had to come out 4 times for remeasuring, and even after we told them they would need a crane to lift the windows, panels and sliding door, they measured the stairways and told us they could get the products to our condo several floors above the ground. Surprise! they could not, so we ended up agreeing to pay half (over $1,000) the cost of the lift in order to finally get the door and window panels installed. To be fair, there were no problems with simple glass replacements (bedrooms and dining room windows), beyond the fact they were unable to put four windows in on the same day. Anything more than that apparently is beyond them. Because of their delays, we were out of the country when they installed the window panels and sliding glass door. When we returned, we were shocked to find a completely different design of window panels and door installed. They installed a design with very thick frames around the glass, including a large kick panel (!), reducing our view of the river significantly. It did not come close to matching the rest of the condominium's 49 other units, a design element we had been very clear about the need to match. Responsiveness was as poor as the result of their work. We initially sent a letter, outlining the problem and requesting a response, which never came. I followed that with a phone call several weeks later and was told Brett was meeting with a client and would call back within the hour. No return call. I called again a few days later, and Brett told me they were in the process of writing a letter of response. Of course that never happened either. At this point, we have sent a last letter and have given them the required 30-day notice that we are filing a complaint with the the Construction Contractor's Board. We've hired them a second time after they installed two glass walls in a shower for us. We have an non-standard situation where we can't attach the glass walls to the floor because of heating below (no drilling). They were unphased and did a great job. When giving an estimate a second time on a second project Pete also fixed a window that wasn't draining properly in about 5 minutes, teaching me how to do it in the process. Then, in sorting out an estimate for a support rod between the two original glass panes in the shower, they sent out to more than one company because the first estimate in their opinion was too high for the work. We needed to replace a broken pane of glass in a ground-floor window. After calling another local business and getting an insultingly high estimate for the job (and a kind of snarky comment), I called Alpine Glass. After a brief chat and a quick email, I got a MUCH more reasonable estimate and accepted it. I wasn't sure how soon the repair would be made, because this was just before New Year's, but I got a call basically the next business day to schedule the work. At this time I am completely astonished at this business operation. About 3 months ago I had AGS cut and install a shower door that was broken by an employee. I provided all the measurements , hardware and photos of original remaining door to save the hassle of them sending someone out or causing a delay. About a week later someone called to let me know the door was ready for pickup... That wasn't the plan. I then had to call them to schedule an install. Of course as a business owner and manager I understand things happen, however I was called late on a Friday that they weren't going to make the appointment so it was rescheduled. Then again, they called another rescheduling for another week out. At this time we are a month into our first interaction. Once the technicians did arrive for the install they picked the entire time about who, what, how. This was not only in from of me but also my client. Some once installed I began pointing out some things and they continued with excuses or it will go away (looks like tape residue) but it hasn't and the door handle was missing. At this point the conversation moves outside not in front of my client and I am told they don't have the hardware it was never received. So then a conversation is had with Brett about this hardware and I am told that the following week it will be installed it was a mix up. Now here I am 3 months later, not hardware and no communication with AGS. Oddly enough I send an email about getting an invoice to pay and the response is immediate but yet they won't respond to service calls or emails at all. If I could give zero stars I would. We had made an appointment for a consult to get an estimate on our patio glass door for Monday morning at 9AM. On Monday, at 9:30AM, I called to check if they were coming and the guy who picked up told me the guy coming for the consult was heading to my house now and was running late because there were a lot of things he had to bring to the consult. At 10AM, I called them again because no one showed up and the same guy picked up and asked if "I was the lady who called this morning about that patio door". I told him yes and he said "dang it, I told him to head there" and acted as if none of it was any of his responsibility. I told him that it seemed like they didn't want our business since they're an hour late already for the appointment and he rudely said okay and hung up on me. Upon further review I stand by my experience with this company and will post again. "The most unprofessional service and staff I've ever seen. Their installation is shoddy at best and they have a tendency to not produce/provide what you pay for. Seriously, stay clear of this outfit. Their customer service is terrible and their workmanship is even worse. The owner and management is just out to make a quick buck." Owners need to realize that there are consequences to bad service. I made an order to have 12 glass pieces made and installed into my cabinet doors at their location. I ordered two extra pieces in case one or two got broken. I was quoted $640, but the guy at the desk did not provide me with order paperwork, he just showed me what he wrote down, and I agreed to it. When I came to pick up my order, he baited and switched me and charged me $704. The work was terrible with calking smeared all over the cabinet doors, and 3 or 4 of the glass pieces were not secured in the cabinet door frame. One of the workers in the shop made repairs by adding extra calking. I am very disappointed about the bad attitude of the guy at the front desk, the poor workmanship, and the bait and switch on the price. So pleased. The installer showed me the adaptability of the shower door frame, so I could more carefully remove it myself in the future. He temporarily moved the lower track to get all the last bits of shards cleaned up. Careful and friendly. I have a steel coffee table that my grandfather welded himself -- really more of an art piece than a practical table. I found it in my dad's garage recently covered in rust and took it upon myself to restore it to its former glory. Unfortunately, the glass top was misplaced and we had to get a new one. The problem is, since this table was bent into shape by hand, none of the edges were exactly the same. We took it to Alpine Glass and they were great! They looked over the table and were able to make suggestions as to how thick the glass should be, what color, etc. They ended up having to hand cut every side of the table (which is hard to do) and the glass top looks AMAZING. Alpine Glass was contracted by the seller of our house to replace six argon-filled Windows that no longer sealed due to sun damage in the West-facing front of the house. Apparently the sellers contacted several companies for estimates, had a hard time getting anyone to come give an estimate, and the one other company besides Alpine that came to give an estimate said that the second-story windows were "too high." Thankfully they found Alpine Glass. We did have to wait til two weeks after closing for the Windows to be replaced--we were told it would be one week and had to check with the seller. I assumed this was time for the windows to be ordered/shipped. The installers from Alpine Glass came out and told me that they had strategized to bring the Windows through an upper-story window and remove the old Windows and install the new from the outside. Our seller said they'd arrive between 9-9:30am and they arrived about 10am. No big deal. Two guys came out to install. They were courteous and professional and got the job done in an hour. We are happy and would use them again. read more

Wish I'd read the numerous negative Yelp reviews before dealing with Alpine Glass. The negative reviews are right on target - multiple phone calls, conflicting information, workers not showing up for scheduled appointments to do work, rude and likely bigoted owner/manager - the individual guys who ultimately did the work were polite and did a good job, but it's not worth dealing with this owner, who really shouldn't be in business. If he treats customers this way, I can't imagine how poorly he treats the people who work for him. On some level it's a miracle the job even got done given how unprofessional and disorganized the owner/manager is. read more

THIS IS THE WORST, SHADIEST COMPANY. The 5 star ratings must be from relatives or people paid to write reviews. This company is just the worst. I had to call back 3 times over the course of 6 days to get someone to finally take my call to schedule an estimate. That should have been my cue right there to run far, far away. But I moved ahead and was scheduled right away for the estimator to come out and measure. Seemed promising so I was willing to ignore the previous unprofessionalism. The guy who was sent out, "Gene" appeared to be altered in some way. He was talking a mile a minute, body twitching and eyes bugged out of his head, bouncing all over the place when I would ask questions, and sweating profusely. I shouldn't have even let him in my house. This was on a Wednesday. By the following Tuesday, I had still not yet received an estimate. So once again, I should have run far, far away. But I called and was too that they are swamped and that I could expect an estimate by noon. THE NEXT DAY I finally get an email with no cost breakdown & no information other than a price. HAHAHAHA. As if I am just going to accept that and hire the company. At one point he began to rattle off cost on things like outlet cutouts, but he gave me 3 different prices within the conversation. None of it jived. So once again I asked for a cost breakdown and here is what I was told (these are all direct quotes that I wrote down as I spoke with the guy). "I can't really give you a cost breakdown by square foot of mirror. I just kind of write down what it costs"; "I get 20 emails a day, I don't have time to write out each individual estimate with actual cost breakdowns"; "If I took the time with each individual customer to give them an actual breakdown of what things cost, I would never get any work done". HAHAHAHA. Yep. I swear to God this is what I was told. Needless to say, between the complete lack of customer service, the repeated attempts to get someone to call me back, the estimator who acted as if he was altered, and the real winner who refused to go over a cost breakdown with me, I have happily moved on to another company. They are very helpful and easy to work with. I have a craftsman working at my home in NE Portland. The window glass is old and broken. They worked with the craftsman to ensure that the glass was correct for the application. When it was time for me to pay a single phone call per purchase made sure that my credit card information was not stored and at risk. Great Job Alpine Glass.
