Typical Friday the 13th--one minute you're living your best life at Target, then you come home to find out you left your house keys on your bed and both your roommates are in SF until the end of the weekend. Needless to say gaining access to the house was a requirement, especially since there are cats to feed, and after many attempts at various windows and a walled off dog door, a call to my dad only to have him tell me Home Depot doesn't sell lock picks, and about 10 minutes of just sitting on my stoop contemplating my life choices up to this point, I finally caved and called Alpine Lock and Key. Jeromie was at my house within 5 minutes and was able to pick my front door lock just as fast. Their after hours rates are very reasonable and they're very friendly. Do not call this company if you urgently need to get back to the Bay Area. We called the night before to schedule an appointment between 10:15-10:45. After no one showed up by 12, we called again only to be greeted by an angry dispatcher who let us know in no uncertain terms that they would arrive before the end of the working day. Well, they didn't. We waited all day. We were fortunate enough to be able to spend another night in the condo we rented. I'm not sure what we would have done otherwise. More money and more lost wages. Maybe spent a night in the car if we could have accessed it.... I strongly believe the only way this company got any positive reviews is because they reviewed themselves. The worst part about this whole situation was seeing the Alpine Locksmith truck drive by your condo about 7 pm and not even slow down or stop. WTF I guess it must have been happy hour..why else not make an easy 550$ Twenty minutes later we canceled the appointment via text and they didn't even bother to get back to us. I can't express how much they suck!!!! This company absolutely sucks but they can get away with it being the only locksmith in town. Don't trust the reviews you read. They could not have been written by a satisfied customer as they can't possibly exist. We are now on day 2 of extending our rental thanks to the erroneous reviews we read on Yelp. Had some concerns about previous keys floating around to my condo. Called Alpine around 1pm and asked for an appointment today, but they were pretty booked; however, they worked with me on the scheduling and fit me in. The person gave me a window of 1-5 pm and I didn't care as I am sitting at home all day working. Was able to get updates on phone and received a call 15 mins out from when he was going to arrive. Lost our car keys about a 5 minute drive away from the store location. We called AAA to get our car towed but the guy said he couldn't tow the car because of how the front wheel was turned. He then recommended us to call Alpine Lock and Key because of their service. The quote they gave us was around $200 which includes the $50 transportation fee. We were literally 5 minutes away, the transportation fee sounds a little ridiculous. We were told it was going to take around 1 hour for the locksmith to get to our location. Fine, no problem. We asked if the key would have the remote system included, and they said it should. 1 hour later, we called again to check, and was told it was going to be another 15 minutes. 15min later, we recieved a call back from Alpines asking if we wanted the remote key instead of a regular key. The remote key was going to cost another $150 and take another hour for the locksmith to arrive. At this point we were very frustrated and confused because we were told all of this information but nothing was true. We asked them to just send out the locksmith to make a regular key and the lady said that would take ANOTHER 20 minutes. The locksmith took a while to make the key but had to do it twice because the key was not programmed correctly the first time. The second key was having a more difficult time fitting into the keyhole and the locksmith tried to blame us for it since we use the remote more than the actual key. But the first key worked fine... All in all, we have waited well over the estimated time with little results and mistake after mistakes from the company. read more

So ended up having to have the locks on my house rekeyed and after reading about trying to do it on my own decided to call a pro. Alpine lock and key arrived 3 minutes early and Tyler asked me what exactly I wanted done. Showed him the three locks I needed done and he told me it would be no problem. 15 minutes later he was putting the locks in and handing me my new keys. He took the time to show me that all the keys worked and a feature about the deadbolts that makes sure they are secure that I was unaware of. I have found another business here in Reno where they truly are the best at what they do. The guys at Alpine helped me out with making some new keys for my truck today. I found the blank fobs online and just needed them cut and programmed to work with my truck. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. This really can be attributed to the owner working with me ahead of time chatting right here on yelp. I was able to get all the information so that when I got there the job was ready to be done. I have been getting keys made at Alpine Lock and Key for at least 10 years and they are always so reliable and friendly. Last month when I needed a locksmith suddenly they fit me into their busy schedule and did all the right things from when from installing longer screws in to cinch up the sagging door frame and changed out the incorrect striker plate and made it work better than new and they charged me fairly for their time and expertise. read more

Awesome awesome AWESOME!! I cannot give these guys enough props... a while ago I had called to price check around when my Montero door tumbler began acting funny in the colder weather... deciding I didn't need to prioritize the key or lock itself, as I'm disabled& always have my hands too full to easily operate a turn-key locking mechanism, I'd settled on replacing the remote entry my son had stolen from me(@6months old, mind you)... Right out the gate, I assume because there is no longer a Mitsubishi dealer in town, the prices ranged from sickeningly inflated to prime examples of greeds impact in supply n demand- the quote I received from Alpine was an easy $80 less than the next lowest competitor, which was $100 less than the next!.. I thought something was wrong with my phone. After she gave me the estimate I made her repeat it& then I repeated it to her. They didn't have one on hand at the time, an emergency came up, so I just dealt with it with temp measures last winter. Today: the issue had reared its disruptive head again in the last week, causing very cranky toddlers tantrums while ice cream melted and my phone glared at me from its charger dock inside the terrorist-safe cabin of my truck while we froze our rear-ends off... no more. Due to a mechanical issue I'd need to leave my truck at a local garage overnight, off Yori- which, I'm just going to say it- is NOT a neighborhood where you'd WANT your ride anything LESS than secure. I'd have to leave my keys in drop box- but they'd not be able to get into my truck even to pop the hood if I locked it. So I called Alpine on my way down the mtn, I found that not only did they have ONE of the dobbers that I required, but they ALSO stay open till 5:30 to accommodate regular working folks- or people who get lost easily like me. The one downside, coming from the Liberty end of that street and using nav is that while ON THE MAP it detailed where to go, once I passed where it was on the opposite side of the street my navigation informed me I had "arrived at my destination" at the corner of ryland and steward streets- and then directed me no further. So I drove down to locust, crossed the street, drove down the back alley so I could find an addy without getting my butt ridden- I just so happened to pull up through the place next door to them-only had to swing around to enter the parking lot. (The handicapped parking is inaccessible if someone with an extended cab truck takes the space next to it, as happened to me. So the only thing that I can say this place is lacking is a "compact only" stamp on the space adjoining the handicapped one so that people in pain needn't curb-hop as I'd been made to:) Other than that- the price was nearly $20 less than I'd been quoted this time, they were quick n efficient, even with computer issues- did all they could to ensure I was back on my way quick as could be! When the tech came back out to my truck after I'd explained what happens in my lock and confirmed he could feel resistance in the tumbler- but couldn't identify what the issue might be, nor had he offered any suggestions to remedy this defect in the future, or if the remote should cease operating. Because they are a locksmith I'd actually kind of expected a knowledgeable briefing on what was behind all the grief I'd been dealing with- perhaps some preventative measures... but from what I'd casually observed, it seemed possible that different techs have differing areas of expertise- this specific tech had only helped me because the one more qualified in automotive work was committed to helping another customer, and my order was as simple as they come- which is more than what I can say for the issue that prompted said work request. Friendly, helpful AND affordable?! Beats greed-driven know-it-all crooks who only offers the premium-priced "solutions" if you're willing to take a DEEP pocket screwing. read more

I bought a new house and wanted the locks rekeyed before I moved my stuff in. Not only did they offer the best rate of all the locksmiths I called, but they provided me with a same day service! He was very friendly and professional, not to mention super fast! He also helped me reset the garage door opener code and program the universal remotes. At the end, I expected to pay a little more because of the garage door help, but he ended up charging me for one less lock than I was quoted - saying consider it a housewarming gift!
