I don't know why negative stars is not an option. This place is awful. Steve the manager was rude when we asked if we could change tables and was yelling at an employee in front of the customers. Worst service ever. First I am a server. So I'll usually cut wait staff some slack. And I don't write bad reviews. Everyone can have a bad day. It's not an easy job. That said. 1:30 on a Monday afternoon. The only table in the restaurant. Planned on relaxing and enjoying the meal. Couldn't have been more rushed. About2 bites into my salad my hot sandwich was thrown in front of me. I even said to the server I would like to enjoy my salad and not watch my sandwich get cold. She walked away. Salad went in the trash. She came back quick to see if we ready to wrap things up. The only table in the restaurant. Now we know why. Never again. read more

The Alps Diner opened last month, replacing "Burger Deluxe", which was at this location for six or seven years. Previous to that, it was the Spindletop Diner. Another yelper pointed out to us that in a previous incarnation, it was also the North Star diner, which does sound familiar. It is located about a mile north of where its namesake, Alps Road, intersects with Route 23. When we stopped in, there were only a handful of cars in the parking lot. That's not a lot different from when it was Burger Deluxe, which never looked busy to us. Service was good, but the employees didn't have too many tables to handle, so your mileage may vary. We're always hoping to be impressed when we walk into a new restaurant, but this was pretty standard diner fare. The place, at least from the outside, looks very much like it did in it's former incarnation (even the phone number has remained the same). The inside looks nice, modern and clean, but since we never ate there when it was Burger Deluxe, we can't say if the interior has changed. The menu is your standard, regulation jersey diner menu, and prices look to be on par with other diners in North Jersey. As you might have figured out, we're real fond of taking home a "doggie bag". Unfortunately, the portion sizes here won't lend themselves to too many doggie bags. Some will probably think that's a good thing. Everything we ordered was OK; nothing was horrrible, but nothing was cause for uncontrolled tail-wagging either (it's more polite to yelp, anyway). I guess that means we'll stop in again, to give The Alps Diner another chance to impress us. They do seem to be a bit schizophrenic, advertising that they are a good late-night destination, yet closing at 10:00 PM, even on weekends. Huh ? This was by far the best dinning experience we've had in a while. We were greeted by two friendly diner employees. We were quickly seated with a smile. We felt at home and very love (Valentines Day). Our server, Rosa M was exceptionally accommodating and excited to make our dining experience pleasurable. Our food was cooked to perfection. We ordered Caesar Salads, Roasted Lemon Chicken w/ Broccoli and Mashed Potatoes, Pancakes and Bacon and Chicken Tenders w Fries. To end a perfect Valentines Evening, we enjoyed decadent desserts- Red Velvet Cake, Strawberry Shortcake, Lemon Coconut Cake and Carrot Cake. They were soooooo moist and delicious. Possibly the worst experience I've ever had at a diner. As I sit here waiting for our Father's Day breakfast, it's now 53 minutes and we have yet to eat. The only thing stopping me from making a scene is our father which we are celebrating in the first place, he doesn't want me to make a scene. It took about 20 minutes just to get our drinks after we sat down. We have not been checked on. People have come and gone after us. Yet we are STILL here! Visited this diner for the first time on a Saturday evening after spending time in the area. I have been to all of the diners on Route 46, so I figured I would check this one out. It looked really appealing from the outside. Upon entering, it was pretty dead inside, but the weather was pretty bad and it was early for dinner. The menu was pretty extensive and everyone enjoyed their meals. The inside of the place is pretty cool too! I would definitely come back. All of the employees were really nice. read more

First time here ever. Was in the area, so we stopped in for breakfast. Food was nothing special. Had a taylor ham, egg, and cheese wrap with hash browns. I couldn't even taste the taylor ham. The hash brown had peppers (yuck) but they added no flavor. The waitress was nice. During our meal, it was uncomfortable because there was no music playing and we could hear the waitresses conversation; talking about how much money they made, who gets the better shift, unfair treatment in the workplace, etc. Please keep your voices down or don't talk about work issues within earshot of customers. Danny, I'm so sorry that we wont be back to see you again. You were a true pleasure to be around and we enjoyed our lunchtime when you were our server. Steve, when you offer $5 off a bill that is $30 or over, and your server decides that a bill for $29.92 is close enough you should trust his judgement. That wasn't the case though was it? Instead of thinking to yourself, these women come in here a couple of times a week and often bring others with them, you got greedy! We could here you loud and clear reprimanding him over the $5 so I reached into my pocket, walked over to you and handed you the money and said "here, this isn't worth it"! Your reply of thank you and taking my money showed a complete lack of character. We have put other behaviors like telling your staff to fill the soap containers so loudly that we can hear you from our boot, and the full blown conversations you have with people in the middle of the diner while we were trying to enjoy our lunch aside, because we like Danny so much. Perhaps you don't realize how loud you. Maybe you don't realize that this makes your staff and customers uncomfortable. I hope you do something great with that $5. It cost you regular customers that the diner up the road will now get to serve. read more

It's a great location to grab breakfast before doing errands. But the new management still has a learning curve. The pancakes I presented still had batter in them and the bacon was scorched. The bathroom was out of paper supplies, but it was still early in the morning so clearly no one was checking. It has the feel of a family business that might still be learning to run a restaurant. Why I do not know...I went to pay for dinner with the 15% off coupon only to be told that the owner was not in and I could not use it? Unfortunately I have nothing positive to say about this place. Food was not good (and it's quite hard to ruin a hotdog and fries), salad was nothing like the description in the menu. Waiter got our order wrong Charged us $6.99 for a "kid's meal" (hot dog and fries) when the regular menu had hot dog, fries and coleslaw for $3.99. If I could give a - star I would I'm staying at a near by hotel in NJ and because I'm 8 months pregnant I decided to order something online. I just received my food I have never been so annoyed in my life. I ordered a California omelette with extra bacon and to make my eggs a little bit soft, and for them to come with a fruit salad and instead there's no bacon in my omelet, it's extremely well done and they gave me left over cold potatoes instead of my fruit salad, my request was completely ignored. On Top of it all the delivery man demanded more tip which I did, I gave a $9 tip on a $38 meal that tasted absolutely horrible. I will never order here again. read more

I met a date at the Alps Diner on Thursday night at 5 pm. 7/28/16. She ordered seltzer water, me root beer. We talked. I asked her if she was ready to order. She wasn't hungry. First meet butterflies. I wasn't going to eat in front of her. The maitre de' came over. He seemed nice when we entered. He told us that since we are using his lights and taking his table we would have to pay $5 for the seltzer water and $5 for the root beer instead of the normal $2 ea. Really? Is this allowed? O.k. I asked him if I could order a meal and take it home. He said o.k. The date left. I ordered and ate. I ordered a hamburger which was good. The tomato's that came with it were not ripe. The lettuce was bad. I wasn't about to complain. My bill. This is what upset me more. He charged me $5 for the lady's seltzer because she took his booth and used her lighting and didn't order dinner. I read some of the reviews belong that the Pompton Queen is more crowded? Good reason. Alps is not the place to go unless you want to get ripped off. There were only two other couples there between 5ish and 7ish. Hello. I didn't pick this place. The lady wanted to try it. She said she would never go back. She lives in that area. She will tell her friends. I want to share it here. Taking his booth when the restaurant was empty. I could understand if it was busy. I just had the pleasure of going to the new Alps Diner Under New Management and wow! The food was absolutely delicious, fresh and tasty. I had the Yankee Bean soup which was thick and full of vegetables and beans and then a specialty Burger. The meat was perfectly cooked medium and so juicy I went through 4 napkins. Great service! Welcoming and professional. I like to go to Alp's diner. When you walk in the owners treat you with respect. In a day and age where businesses tend to forget about the human being and treat you like another number, these people treat you like you matter. I tend to order breakfast food whenever I visit, and must say that it is good. The service is good and timely, nothing worse than having to wait forever for a server (there is no shortage of that in the restaurant business), but I must say I've never had to wait forever for a server whenever I ate here. I recommend this place to anyone who is a local, or even a non-local who wouldn't mind a nice drive over to Wayne from a neighboring town! read more

Based on many of the other reviews on here, this place has a lot of complications with following basic sanitary protocol (Hair in food, undercooked meat, etc.) and you could tell that our utensils were barely cleaned. I wish I read other reviews before coming in here because I found myself checking every inch of my food for hair and I didn't even get to enjoy it. Anyways, I got the chicken Parmesan panini- It was average, the cheese wasn't melted and very little tomato sauce. It came with fries which were pretty good. My brother got a Belgian waffle..again, average. I give it two stars because the owners were so friendly, I think this place has potential if they'd just crack down on their chefs/staff and tie up some loose ends here and there. Upon entry: it seemed like a nice place. It was 8:45 in the evening and online it says they're supposed to be open until midnight. We walk in and the man who I presume is the owner brings us to our table and then says "you need to hurry up and order because my cook wants to go home" our waitress ( who was very nice, a little rough around the edges) came over and I asked what time they close and she says that they close whenever the owner wants to. So there are no set hours. Personally i just didn't like being guilted into eating and ordering fast. Also the prices on the bill didn't match the menu. As we were eating, they shut the lights off on us as well. Very unpleasant experience. read more

Was there twice. Both times I ordered a hamburger. Both times the hamburger was cooked incorrectly. When I gave back a hamburger because it was overdone i got a RAW (not rare) one back. Really upset as soon as I walked through the door. Online it says open until midnight. My friend and I walked in around 8:45pm and the owner immediately told us to order fast because his cook wants to go home. We asked our waitress when they closed and she said whenever he wants to. The waitress was sweet, the food wasn't that great, but the owner could use a lesson in hospitality and business management. Before we were done he asked if we were paying with cash or card so he could close the registers. Just completely rude and unprofessional. Won't be returning here anytime soon. I live in Wayne and even though there are plenty of diners I have to say that at the Alps Diner I have gotten the best, most consistently good meal and service. Everyone is very friendly, the service is always good and i haven't eaten anything here that I have not liked. I do believe that they have the best tuna melt in the area. The pancakes are delicious too! The burgers are also great with many choices to choose from. I also have to mention that the decor is a cool looking retro and the place is always super clean. Try it!
