I like to support businesses that have a good sense of customer service and communication. Consistent with other reviews, that is not Al's. After not hearing a word on my trimmer repair for 3 wks, I called to check on the status. On first call, they were unable to locate it in their store and was told they would call me back...no call. On second call, I got the voicemail which instructed me to text for assistance...no response. On third call, I was again told they would call back...no call. On fourth call, Al answered and told me to text him the details....no response. When I finally received word to come pick up my trimmer, I walked into the store to witness Al and the front desk lady in a screaming match with an unhappy customer. Regardless of who was right, I prefer not to support businesses that are willing to behave like this. So far, my trimmer is fixed and working as desired. However they did not perform the other general maintenance items I requested at drop off. I was not about to leave my trimmer there again and will not be using Al's again. read more

Dropped off old mower and shop agreed to contact me prior to work being done if cost exceeded agreed amount. I never got the call and final bill was way over what I would ever agree to pay for a mower that old. For what I was being charged, I would have just gone ahead and bought a new one. Both owner and the front girl are very patronizing, flat out lied about 'we told you' and she denied ever making such agreement. The work they did is not what's in dispute here. What's in dispute is the shop failed to adhere to our agreement and NEVER gave me the chance to decide for myself if I wanted to get the work done and pay what they were going to charge. In the end, they would not surrender the mower. I'm out a mower. An old one.. so maybe not that much a loss for me since I would have declined the services and just paid them my deposit of $35 for their time (which is in essence what happened now). But at least I would have had the mower and had a chance to take it elsewhere. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE. read more

They are so good, they are always packed, and it takes up to 2 weeks to get to machines. But a busy place is a good indicator of good service. Easy staff to get along with. I went to this place as a second option as I read reviews showing 4 1/2 stars. I rook in my mower only to be stated that they were busy & it would take 2 weeks to look @ it. I fully understood & paid the $30 diagnostic fee. Well 2 weeks went by & no word. Being busy w/ work I could only call late after closing where I some older grouchy man rudely answered saying we're closed. I asked if it was the repair shop. I quickly explained all I wanted was an update. He said to text him my ticket number & he would get back to me. I did so & never got a response. I managed to call @ week 3 & "he" answered saying they were busy. I said i was told it would take 2 weeks & it had been 3 weeks. It was @ that point he started to get agitated & raise his voice @ me saying they had 200 units to repair. I told him I understood & kept talking over me gradually getting louder until he was yelling @ me. I kept trying to talk & he wouldnt let me. I managed to tell him a simple call @ 2 weeks or even 3 weeks would of gone a long way. He started on me again saying my old mower was taking longer to look @ because it was old. That has NO bearing on how long it takes to diagnose, maybe fix due to locating parts but to look @? I told him I would be by to pick it up & hung up. When I picked it up it was in pieces in a box as they decided they were too busy to reassemble my mower. This guy has absolutely NO people skills & needs to work on his customer service skills. STAY AEAY FROM THIS PLACE REGARDLESS OF THE REVIEWS. There are many embedded reviews within their reviews that back up what I'm saying that others have experienced. WOW! I came here after reading the reviews. The 5 star ratings were not over stated, this place is FANTASTIC! I took an old mower my mom owned strictly for sentimental value, it runs like new. I took my mower after and it runs great. The folks here make you feel like they have known you forever. They explain what they will do, what cost to expect based on that work, show you parts they replaced and crank up the mower before loading it up for you. This place is a disaster. Took a back pack blower in for service. When I got it back two weeks later, it ran OK but was hard to start. I discovered the gas's prime/assist line was not connected and was leaking gas. I took it back. They complained bitterly that it wasn't their fault! I left it with them and heard nothing for two weeks. Stopped in today and they had not touched it...still unfixed, so I picked it up. I shall never return. read more

By far the ONLY place we'd recommend for any mower/edger repair. Fair pricing, a good explanation on the work performed and the ability to find parts for older equipment has made this our go-to. My brush cutter crapped out on me while I was mowing my lot near downtown. Yelped small engine repair and saw this place has 4.5 stars. Stopped by and was told they would drop what they were doing for a 35$ rush order fee. This was an emergency so I agreed. 30 minutes later, I was leaving their shop with a fully repaired brush cutter. Final price was 108$, which I thought was more than reasonable. Everyone in the shop was polite and pleasant. The mechanic fully explained what was wrong and what he did to fix it. I live in Austin, and it would have sucked to have returned with a broken mower and my lot still unmowed. I highly recommend this place if you need your mower fixed. I brought in my generator on Saturday and was promised a no charge quote by the following Monday...Finally after calling them four times on the following Friday I got a price to repair it that was more than I could buy it for new, in the box. He has a trailer with everything he needs to repair your equipment on the spot. He also gave me some great tips on how to keep my lawnmower running at its optimum. Give Al a try; think about this, you have to take your lawnmower to the repair shop; it will probably be there a week or more. There's a service assessment fee, and then you'll be charged for the repair. Al will come out and repair it the same day, for about the same amount of money. After reading the various reviews about this mobile mower repair service I decided to call Al and talk with him. Please note, after the call, I found texting to be more efficient communication method as it allowed him and me to communicate when we both had time. Thus, we arranged a day & time for Al to come to my house and assess my mower. Al was everything the previous 5 star reviews advertised. Friendly, Honest, Service was great, he got my mower working in about 45 minutes, and I did not need to haul the mower anywhere. As background, my mower is a 21" pull start 19 year old Craftsman, body and wheels are in great shape. Oil changes done prior to every mowing season. Al performed a spark plug change, carburetor kit, primer pump change, and sharpen the blade. The mower now starts the first pull after being primed. Definitely would recommend his service to anyone looking for this kind of service and whose repair prices are reasonable. I would offer to other readers to have patience the day of your service as this is a small repair business and Al will get to you on the day he says he will, but with any repair, timing can be unpredictable. So, ask for a 1 to 2 hour, text notification from him when he is on his way. I would definitely use his service again and/or recommend him to anyone looking for mower repair. read more

I am so glad I found this place. I have a really old Honda lawnmower and it's really hard to find a reasonably priced place, that does good quality work, and know's how to work on Hondas around downtown San Antonio. I've taken my lawnmower here three times twice. Once for an oil change and tune up and once because my lawnmower wouldnt start. Turns out my gas was old but it got fixed in no time. 3 weeks later my lawnmower didnt start again and Al's Repair said to bring it in for no charge. Took my mower in on Thursday and they called the next day to tell me it was ready to be picked up. Obviously January is a slow time for mower repair, but I was very surprised they would get it fixed in one day. The mower runs very well, so obviously they did an excellent repair. Their shop rates are reasonable and fair and the amount I was charged was what was posted on the wall of their shop. Al just finished working on my generator engine. It had been in storage for the last 12 years. I couldn't get it to run. He had is working within a week (and that includes the Thanksgiving break). He also gave me great advice on how to keep it running in good order. When you walk into his shop the walls are adorn with pictures of his family. After talking to him, I found out that his shop is close the the neighborhood he lives and grew up in. He is a good, honest and hard working man with great values. Oh yah,...the price for the repair was far less than I expected to pay and was extremely reasonable. I've had small engine work done at two other locations in town and I'll never go back to them again. Al has earned my business for all my small engine needs.
