The ice maker on my KitchenAid refrigerator stopped working, so I gave Hugo Ortega a call. I was asked to send photos of the refrigerator model number, the face of the fridge, and of the ice maker itself. The text I received indicated that yes, Mr. Ortega does work on that unit, and a service call was scheduled two days hence. As it turns out, Hugo Ortega did not appear for the service call, but rather his son Tim. It seems that the father, Hugo, tends to work primarily on washer/dryer, and Tim deals with refrigerators and dishwashers. (They are both able to work on any of the appliances, but they have their particular interests, according to Tim). Personable and polite, Tim went through his diagnostics, explaining as he proceeded, and determined that the problem was the ice maker's motor. And.. he has a Kitchenaid ice maker on his truck. But here is where it gets a bit interesting. It seems that the icemakers on this brand can be different: some sit on the side of the freezer, some sit in the center of the freezer...and one is not an exact "bolt In" for the other. He stocked the side fitting unit, and I have the centrally sitting unit. So what Tim did was dismantle his unit, and used the parts to fit on the chassis of my unit. As he nimbly disassembled and reassembled the units, I was reminded of a scene in "The Good, The Bad and the Ugly", in which Tuco takes apart several revolvers, and knew which parts would fit the chassis of his new revolver. WOW. DOUBLE WOW! With the unit now working as new...which essentially it was...I realized this young man definitely knows his refrigerators!! But the story gets better. I asked if he works on Jennair Downdraft glass stove tops, as one of my burners was not working. He doesn't really service these units, but he went through an online parts manual, and given the symptoms I described, he told of three possible defects...and he listed the parts numbers and the suggested prices for the parts. I was pretty impressed with his efforts for an appliance he doesn't work on! So can I recommend the Ortegas for appliance repair? Definitely! They are my "go to" repairmen now!! I found this company on Yelp and really needed my dryer fixed. There is an initial fee fir them to come out and give you an estimate of what's wrong. If you decide to have them fix it, it will be rolled into your final charge. He came on a Saturday and was very professional. Luckily I didn't need additional parts so he gave me a total and I accepted. He was here for about 45 minutes, cleaned up and left. Would def use their services again. read more

Every now and then you have to pay for another person's knowledge and experience. Today I did just that and I am such a happy camper! Tim came over to my house and fixed my 11 year old front loading washer and the ice maker in my refrigerator. I got so much helpful information about my machines that I believe they could keep running for another 11 years. All of the parts, labor and expenses were clearly explained in advance and again on the final boll. Tim gave an advance estimate before even seeing my machines. Everything was explained in a way I could understand. Tim actually beat me to my house for our scheduled appointment. When he saw me drive up, he waived like we were old friends. He's knowledgeable and chatty and you can tell he likes what he does. After fixing everything he peeked at my other appliances and gave additional pointers for general maintenance. I should have posted this review weeks ago. Needed my washer repaired, found Hugo here on Yelp, based on the reviews he had received I decided that I would go with his repair service. I can't say enough great things about this gentlemen. He was prompt, courteous, and professional. He even fixed my Kenmore Upright Freezer, that quit working the same day as the washer. Mr Ortega went on to explain in great detail, the process of trouble shooting the possible problems, (in short he was schooling me on how to trouble shoot the washer myself in the future). He further instructed me how to preform some general maintenance on my dryer. While discussing the need repairs I learned that Mr Ortega is also a Veteran, hence his attention to detail. Hugo was very professional and polite when he came to work on my dryer. My idler pulley was bad so he replaced it cleaned the drum wheels (oiled them) and remove the lint. We've had that dryer for 8 years and its never been maintenance. He even showed me how to do preventive maintenance and to do it every 2 years. Our washer suddenly stopped rotating, we are not handy in the least so we called the one repair company with 5 stars. Mr Ortega was very friendly, worked quickly and efficiently. We had something clogged in the pump (note: don't throw eye glass cloths in the wash). Thank goodness for service providers that are honest and do good work. I had a water leak in my house and a plumber was able to find the leak IN my washer. Mr Ortega came right out (I am so glad he was available). He replaced my leaking water valve and also gave me instructions on how to clean the gasket on my front load washer (the horror and embarrassment! It was filthy). Two Thumbs Up!!! Problem: 20+ year old Kenmore refrigerator in our garage was tripping the GFCI outlet. Prior to scheduling their appointment date/time, they actually offered some trouble shooting tips via text msg ... AMAZING! Based on the resulting outcome to that, he booked his next availability which was the following day. He arrived at the appointed time, preceded with by a text notification that he was on his way - as promised. Upon arrival he asked several questions as to the problem and also past performance of the appliance, then set about troubleshooting the condition. After a brief period of of time, he located the defective part, a relay (which was hot to the touch), and quoted the cost to replace it. With my acceptance he replaced the part, which solved the tripped circuit problem. He then proceeded to clean the coils and other areas. Excellent communication skills and appliance knowledge. They are my first-call for ANY appliance problems from now on. read more

I have had nothing but amazing service from Tim and his wife. I found them here on yelp. Requested a quote. Received a text within 10 minutes. Gave me a quote and scheduled visit for next day. They came out to replace my ice maker. Tim explained everything he was doing, showed me his diagnostics of the ice maker and water pump. He couldn't find anything major wrong with either part. Just a minor fix. So he put everything back together, added water and it worked! He could have just sold me a new ice maker. Instead he made it work. But if it didn't work, he would come back and replace it without charging me for another service call. It did stop working again, so he came out and replaced it. Excellent service! My Samsung refrigerator is making loud noises and I called 7 appliance repair companies, including Samsung itself to find a repair person, as per the suggestion of one of the companies that called back. The refrigerator came with the house we purchased 1 year ago, it was not our purchase or under warranty. According to the repair companies that called back and the internet, this is one of the worst refrigerators on the market. It is notorious for ice build-up, burning out the motor, and dying within a couple of years. Everyone I spoke to said they do not repair Samsung because they are "crap" refrigerators and they end up with unhappy customers because the problem is inherent in the design of the refrigerator, not the repair. Samsung couldn't even find a repair person in SA to come out. Hugo Ortega was the only company that provided me with a reasonable solution, even though he did not come out to fix it. I appreciate his honesty and the help he DID provide. Over the phone, he instructed me on what and how to defrost it myself, so that I could stretch out the operation of this refrigerator. He even sent me to YouTube to see it actually being done instead of charging me to come out. I learned on YouTube that I will have to keep doing this every couple of months with this refrigerator because it is an engineering problem that Samsung is aware of and has never fixed. I appreciate him educating me and saving us money now and in the future. He even said he would prefer I save my money to buy a better refrigerator because he just wants his customers to be happy. Unlike the first appliance repair place I spoke with, who gave me a four-hour window for an appointment, Hugo said he would be there at 1 pm. He was right on time.
