I have been trying to find a new salon because my hairdresser recently moved. I tried this place the other day, and it was fast and easy process. The space was clean and modern. My favorite part was the massage when they washed my hair. I left the salon with hair feeling refreshed and silky. I am hoping to come back and try having my hair colored. read more

Had my first haircut in ages here and Hannah did a terrific job! She fully listened to what I wanted done and made it happen -- cut, color, and a quick style at the end, and really took the time to make sure it came out perfect. Also gave great tips for taking care of the (dark blue) color since I hadn't done that in ages. Service was an even better deal than I expected. After moving to ABQ 10 months ago I finally broke down and decided I needed to find a stylist here. I read the other Yelp reviews for Alt Salon, which were great, and booked my appointment. Diana met me on time (a huge plus for me) and was super energetic. She listed to me go on and on about my old stylist in Denver but was very patient and listened to what I wanted. Before cutting she asked me twice again to ensure she was giving me the right cut. Diana was great to talk with and she was quick and efficient with the process. After drying, she asked if I wanted a style and I said yes. Diana gave me an awesome cut and style and I am so happy! I'd highly recommend going to her. I went and saw Diana for a color and haircut Monday. The haircut was the worst I have ever had I my life. It will take months and months to grow back before I can even think about getting it cut and fixed. When I called to get my money back the salon owner refused to give me a refund even though I sent photos of my hair being clearly longer on one side than the other. They then proceeded to blame me that I was the one who messed the haircut up when I got home. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. I hope with this review that people will think again before coming here. I recently moved to ABQ and was in search for a new hair salon. I came across this salon on yelp and decided to give it a try. I've had long hair my whole life (hip length) and decided to try something completely knew. I went to Erin and told her to cut my hair short for the first time and that she can cut it to what she thinks would look best for my face. She completely exceeded my expectations and made having my first short hair experience amazing. If you don't know what looks best on you, Erin is amazing at making you look great with her judgement calls. Highly recommend her. The salon is also super clean and friendly. I called early afternoon looking to bring my daughter in for a haircut this afternoon. Prom season you know. ;) I noted from another review that they also do nails and I inquired. My daughter has short nails and wants some length, therefore would like fake nails. They polish nails but don't offer fake nails at this salon. However, they did recommend a location that we have an appointment for today. I love when a business recommends another. It speaks volumes to me of the business referring and I appreciate the help in locating a service I'm looking for. I liked the modern look of the salon. You can't go wrong with clear baubles hanging above the desk. :) It is clean and the staff is friendly. The background music was a nice mix, too. Diana was the stylist that cut my daughter's hair. She was very good with her learning about her hair type, how she wears it, what she is looking for, how she normally cares for it, etc. She did a very nice wash and cut. A pleasant surprise when checking out was they took $15 dollars off the cut because it was our first visit. It was $25 after the credit for the wash and cut. Probably would have included a blow dry but she opted not have that done as she has dry, curly hair and lets it dry naturally. We are very pleased with our experience today and will make this our regular salon for hair care. read more

The salon is very nice! It is quiet and relaxing. I had a pedicure and gel manicure, with Chelsea. She did a wonderful job! My feet were in horrible shape from being barefoot and in flip flops all the time, and she cleaned them up and smoothed them out. They have a lot of polish choices. They use a new file for each person, that you can take with you and everything was very clean. The foot bath is jetted and was very relaxing! Chelsea is a super sweet person and was fun to talk with. My nails look great! I had a gel polish. I had a little cut right at the edge of my middle finger and she was very gentle and I never felt any pain from it, which was great! You can actually see it in the picture-it isn't stray polish, honest. read more

New to the area. Tried this Salon based on it's close proximity and my daughter's online research as she is the one needing a haircut. Prior to her appointment, the Salon called to confirm the appointment. I always find this practice helpful in case it slips my mind or I didn't write it on my calendar. Upon arrival to the salon, I was pleased with the cleanliness and uniquely clean and modern decor. The Stylist (Janne') met with us and my daughter explained what she wanted. She has very long hair but wanted to keep the length but add volume and bangs. The stylist (who is one of the owners) provided a great deal of input, which I find VERY important in a salon experience. I'm not a stylist. I think I might know what I want, by I need imput from a professional. Janne showed my daughter some pictures on her tablet of what she thought was what my daughter was explaining and they agreed. She got a shampoo/conditioning, a cut and a blow dry. Because this was our first visit, she gave us a $15 discount and explained that if we refer others, we will get $15 off services with every referral (who also gets $15 off with their first visit). Sounds like a great deal to me. With the discount, the price was $22. Very reasonable. I listened to the other stylists talking to their clients. They were knowledgable and helpful with tips about what would look good and what would work for that particular client's hair. Overall I was very impressed with the Salon and Stylists. Was looking for somewhere to have my hair cut that WASN'T a Style America type place. A quick search gave me Alt Salon and a quick call gave me a very friendly, helpful receptionist that scheduled me the very next day. The salon is small, very nice, clean and well run. The staff are all very friendly and knowledgeable. My cut was scheduled with Janne, the owner, and I could not have asked for a better stylist. This gal knows her stuff. She asked questions so I could tell her what I wanted and she did an amazing job. (I always know I'm in good hands when my stylist has great hair!) I also scheduled my 85-year old mom with Diana...who did a fabulous job as well. She's really great with thinning hair!! I highly recommend Alt and all the stylists working there. read more

I followed my nail technician, Jenn Burr, from her previous shop (5 Elements on San Pedro) when she moved to Alt Salon. I was already driving a good 20 minutes from the west side of Albuquerque to my nail appointments and now have about 10 minutes longer. That tells you how great Jenn is! Her forte is nail art but she's great with whatever you want. I can't tell you the number of times I have been asked where I get my nails done. I get long-lasting gel and it runs me about $42 every three weeks. Owners Kristy and Janne also came from 5 Elements and have opened a shop that is clean and stylish with an open floor plan! I can't say enough good things about this salon! I got a full balayage in June and got so many compliments on my hair after. Yesterday I got a hair gloss and hair treatment (cause the dye damaged my hair) and my hair looks amazing! The color is exactly how I wanted it and it's sooo soft now. A talented hair chemist & artist with a super fun personality, she listened to my wishes, looked at Pinterest photos I chose and worked her magic on my hair, which hadn't been colored in 4 months. She expertly blended my roots and put in some gorgeous highlights/lowlights. I am so happy with my experience at Alt and my sassy new hair. I'd give 10 stars if I could. Horrible customer service! If I could give a negative star review I would. Never before have I been treated to badly. I'm very conservative with my hair as I mostly keep it dark colored. I text my stylist the picture of what I was going for a day in advance and we discussed I wanted my hair prodomoninatly dark brown with a few carmel colored highlights. I left with my hair all dark brown with no highlights, yet still paid $180 for full color and partial highlights. We booked for a redo the following week. When I left the second time the majority of my whole head is now orange!!!!! I was upset but kept it too myself bc I felt bad that my stylist tried hard yet my hair didnt work. I dont know why I felt bad but I did so I decided to suck it up and see if it grew on me. At check out they still tried to charge me $89! I was in shock and expressed that I thought redo's were free as long as it took place within 7 days. The front desk manager (shannon) still ended up charging me $10 for redo (which whatever that's fine) I paid and still tipped my hairdresser and left. At home I couldn't get past the full head of orangey look and my family all felt the same. I called the next day to see if anyone would be available to put a toner to take the orange off a bit and was told by management that it doesn't seem like they ate able to suit me needs therefore it would be best to discontinue my relationship with them!!! Whaaaaat? I've been more than a loyal customer there for 3+ years, spending close to $400 in the past 6 weeks alone and this is how I'm treated? I'm beyond hurt and have already booked a new stylist elsewhere to fix what ALT Salon did to my hair. Not to mention it was kept in bleach for almost 2 hours which completely dried it out!! All in all perhaps a blessing in desguise. I would just advise all to stray far away from this salon as they truly dont value the end result of your hair, how you feel, or your $ spent. read more

Decided to give this place a try since it's close to home and had good Yelp reviews. I was able to get an appointment quickly with Sam. My first impression of this place was good...especially since it's downwind from Golden Pride! There was a woman at the front who greeted me when I came in and offered me some water. She was really friendly. Sam was also great. She's bubbly and sweet and did a great job on my hair and eyebrow wax. She even took the time to follow up after my appointment by sending me a handwritten thank you card. I am definitely making an appointment to see her again! read more
