Tonight we celebrated my son's 30th birthday at Alta Strada, a great spot with a cool vibe and an open kitchen that lets you watch the whole operation in motion. There's something about seeing the cooks working the line that adds another layer to the experience. It feels lively, energetic, and authentic. We started with a variety of appetizers because, honestly, everything on the menu sounded amazing. First came the bread service with two olive oils. The bread was light and airy, with just enough chew, and it soaked up the oil and sauce like it knew exactly what its job was. Next up were the meatballs, served in a rich tomato sauce with ricotta and shaved Parmigiano. The meatballs had a unique flavor thanks to the sausage mixed into the blend. They were tender, savory, and deeply satisfying. The sauce was chunky and well-balanced, just the right touch of sweetness without tipping into acidity. We also ordered the arancini, which came crisp on the outside and packed with umami flavor, helped along by the truffle sauce. One bite and you understand why these little rice bombs are such a classic. And then there was the cheese board, a nice variety that gave everyone something different to pick at between bites of everything else. For my main course, I went with the Pork Chop Giambotta. The pork chop was grilled beautifully, tender, juicy, and full of flavor. It was topped with a giambotta, a rustic Italian stew of vegetables that included fingerling potatoes, sausage, hot cherry peppers, vinegar, garlic, and onions. This dish hit every note on the palate, sweet, savory, tangy, and just enough heat to keep things interesting. One of those plates where every forkful gives you a slightly different combination of flavors. It was a great meal, made even better by sharing it with family. And the service deserves a mention as well. The staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and incredibly accommodating, the kind of hospitality that makes the whole evening feel effortless. Let's start with the good. Chicken Parm was tasty. We were late for our reservation and they accommodated us, which was appreciated on a busy Saturday night. Now the bad. Decor could use some updating ... old fixtures which scream, the Beast from Beauty and the Beast was going through some hard financial times. Pasta needs more sauce. Wine room was fully visible yet a mess and the door was left open, so climate control be damned. No free bread at an Italian restaurant is a pet peeve of mine, total disgrace ... pasta is cheap, the least you could do is offer free bread. I also order the Spaghetti AOP because I wanted to stuff my face with pasta, and wife order the Penna All Vodka which both were good. Our server Jill was very friendly, helped us with questions on the menu, and really on top of everything. The restaurant is located in the Fox Tower, so it's perfect if you are staying there, but somewhat of a walk if you are at the Grand Pequot Tower - still worth it overall and I would definitely go back. read more

Came here for NYE and it was really nice. The restaurant was very pretty and the service was great. The food was good, I really liked the garlic bread. The cheesecake was a little small and cut a little ugly for $14 but it did come with ice cream. Overall we will most likely be back. :) read more

The restaurant is nice . The staff is not great. Drinks were tough to get refilled. I got a Cesar salad as an appetizer, trying to get pepper was impossible. No fresh cracked pepper, I got a small bowl of table pepper. The chicken Milanese was good. The food all around lacked salt. After waiting for awhile to be seated, we enjoyed anything with mushrooms. Whether it was the mezzaluna or stuffed mushrooms, you couldn't go wrong except for the congealed cheese on top. The meatballs were too tough, but the sauce was delicious. The mussels and clams were up to par and harder to screw up with with a white sauce and heirloom tomatoes. Service was helpful and friendly. We went last night before John Legend show. Worst food we've had $140 for 2 people. $8 for bread that was bland, hard and served with a lime green olive oil that was tasteless. Rigatoni bolognese was tasteless, luke warm with very little sauce. Chicken Milanese was tough, overcooked and tasteless. Table was wobbly, had to be leveled as did the table next to ours. We went to Alta Strada yesterday. The service was good. However, the food was not. I ordered the chicken Milanese. It was dry and pretty tasteless. It only came with a small portion of greens. Since I already had a salad as an appetizer I did not expect more salad. My wife had a chicken dish that was greasy with the skin on. Now to be fair, we had been to Alta Strada last year and it was much better. So we were looking forward to this trip. My wife and I had a lovely dinner at Alta Strada on Saturday night. We had an 8:00 reservation but sat at the bar so we could watch the ncaa tournament. Bartender was excellent: attentive, friendly, knowledgeable and (most importantly) knew how to find the right channel for the game we wanted to watch. The bar had an excellent collection of whiskey and rye: my whistle pig rye old fashioned was delicious and my wife loved her mango sangria. We had the bread service with marinara and the calamari & hot peppers appetizers. Both were good but the bread was uniquely delicious. Was there for dinner last night with 3 others and we enjoyed it very much. We had cocktails. Bourbons on the rocks and one of us had a mixed drink. The pours were generous and of course pricey...what's not at the casino? We ordered garlic bread which was a thick rustic bread that seemed to be grilled. Nice crust on bottom. Comes with marinara sauce. Calimari cooked perfectly so it was nice and tender. All 4 of us were in the mood for chicken parm which was served with a side of penne. It was a very large portion of chicken, cooked well, crispy and just enough sauce and cheese. We all enjoyed our meals. The waitstaff was friendly and efficient the ambiance was cool. Last minute dinner plans at Foxwoods. Made a reservation got right in no waiting. Busy night since the EMS show was there. Our food was delicious, calamari light and crispy, burratta wash nice and fresh. The mushroom ravioli we phenomenal totally would get them again. We all did t have any food issues. The atmosphere was fun it was loud but not unbearable. Tables have plenty of room for 6+ people. Had a reservation, walked in and was seated imediately at a table. Was greated by our waitress, Jillian imediately and was asked if we would like a drink? we had order the drink and it was the best sangria I had in a long time. We did place our order for dinner after we recived our drinks and both decided on te special of the day. Pan seared scallops over a squash puree. The meal was out of this world. The scallops done to perfection and the sides were just as good. What happened to this place? The only positive was the hostess, who greeted us genuinely and sat us quickly, though she was wearing jeans. Server with nose ring greeted us and stated the specials. Watched our bread order go to the wrong table, informed food runner when she delivered our food and she asked if we still wanted the bread. Server rushed over (never noticed we didn't get the bread in the first place) and asked if everything was okay. Explained our bread order went to the wrong table, but the food runner was getting a replacement. We never saw the server again until we needed the check. She never checked on us once though we saw her visibly visit nearby tables multiple times while we sat with empty glasses. Never saw a manager during our visit. When we did receive our check/bill, we were charged eight dollars for the bread order. We assumed it would've been comped, or at least the server could've apologized for the mixup. It really is sad when a restaurant can't provide a couple pieces of free bread, but then charges you eight dollars for two pieces. The pizza was LOADED with cheese, it was like pizza soup. Horrible, how can you mess up pizza? The crust was bland, tasteless. Chicken parm dish with penne was okay. Used to be gigantic, now much smaller portion is served. Again, server never checked on us on us, never witnessed a manager and I'm assuming the table who received our bread order didn't pay for it, yet we had to. Dark. Mostly empty. We order an espresso martini and a glass of Prosecco. The martini came without baileys for some reason. We ordered a house salad, Caesar salad and the spaghetti and meatballs. The flavor of the sauce was mmmmm. Very tomato-y and not in the best way. The Caesar salad did not taste like it had fresh dressing. Because the house salad has red onions in it, the entire salad took on the flavor of onions and it seemed slightly...soft... Even though it wasn't the best, we packed it up for leftovers. We charged it to our room and left, only to realize that we left our bag. When we returned to get it, the server informed us that they threw it away. For the discerning diner, identifying the finest ethnic restaurants blends several features. And even a fleeting consideration of what makes dining out memorable suggests much is required. Alas, this Alta Strada - without newfound commitment, hardly seems destined to reach such lofty culinary heights. Why, you ask? For starters, they might ponder the old saying; "Authentic ambiance whets the appetite and enhances both the wine and the memory." (Okay, I made it up, but you get it.) As such, may I ardently request Alta Strada, though residing in a mega-casino, begins featuring authentic Italian music? Hipster rock before 6pm just doesn't cut the prosciutto, capish? And with the menu, additional choices would add a nice element. But onto our recent dining experience. Beginning with a nice greeting from our kindly server Jill, soon she came laden with a lanky, well-chilled Peroni draft and my wife's Perfection Martini, ample and masterfully blended. For prosciutto lovers, Alta Strada's starter displayed a generous board of the delicate ham flanked by toasted crostini with fig jam; a swell pairing, for sure, but a small chunk of Italian cheese would have enhanced the offering. For an entree, my wife and I were intrigued by the Shrimp Scampi Risotto; and it was clearly well-prepared with several good-sized shrimp atop a mound of tender risotto with nearby sauce. The dark sauce, light yet pungent, was unique; but unfortunately, needed to be warmed - a task Jill made sure her chefs completed pronto. And since it was my birthday, soon a delectable dollop of world-class pistachio gelato appeared, as good as Bologna, 1970. Finally, the female manager came by and we extolled Jill's service, the chefs' skills, and, of course, the homemade gelato. For here's a ristorante on the cusp of superior fare. Strike two at Foxwoods for me. My mom got a reservation here for us and her 2 friends. We started with the garlic bread with spicy marinara. There was absolutely nothing spicy about the marinara, but the bread was very good. I ordered the arugula salad with grilled chicken which was described as: arugula, Shaved snap peas, almonds, parm, and a lemon vinaigrette. It was definitely the wish version of this . There were no snap peas or shaved anything. It was a plate full of arugula, one paper thin slice of parm, 2 sliced almonds (not joking there were 2), and the dressing tasted like olive oil and salt. The chicken was so dried out and gross it was inedible, so I dumped the marinara sauce from the bread on top of it to choke it down. My moms friend said something to the waiter because she ordered the Caesar w grilled chicken and her chicken was gross too and they came by and said.. "ok we will take the chicken off the bill" and walked away. I left almost the entire salad on my plate but happy they acknowledged us anyway. My mom and her other friend got Chicken parm which was very good. The sauce is great! I think that if you stick to the heavy Italian stuff here you will enjoy it. read more

This lovely Italian restaurant was located on a bustling pathway in front to the slots, right by the gambling action. Inside of Alta Strada, they have romantic booths and seatings in an intimate dimly lit setting. Our reserved room was a little tight on one end but to try to fit a party of 11, it was fine and we got plenty of privacy. Maybe a little bit too much? Great spot to dine and "try" to unwind. Creamy Burrata- Fresh mozzarella spread beautifully and drizzled with spicy honey and hazelnut. A masterpiece. Mushroom Mezzeluna- The truffles in the sauce! It's a light creamy dish with mushroom stuffed raviolis. Very delicious. Spicy Chitarra- The long dark stringy pasta was great and the sauce wasn't overwhelmingly spicy. The combination of the shrimp and squid was excellent. Pappardelle- The large flat noodles was wonderfully submerged in with a velvety cream sauce with cherries and the tender braised duck. Mushroom, Truffle, Fontina Pizza- Did I mention how much I love truffles? Margherita Pizza- Skimping on the basil and it just looked and tasted like a basic cheese pizza. Overall Service: Hostess was terrible and had no idea what they were doing. The manager came over and guided my friend and I over to our party inside a cozy room for privacy. A huge problem with the room was we didn't get a server who was designated to just our area, she was also serving people across the room so we constantly had to wait or call the manager to call her over. She was charismatic when she was present. It just got pretty annoying throughout the time here with a lot of waiting around even though the food was very impressive. read more

GAHHH We really wanted to enjoy our experience but things fell short and our party of six left feeling sick and ripped off. If you are looking for fine dining prices with Olive Garden quality, look no further, you've found your place. I will give it this, the garlic bread and burrata appetizers mixed with the pleasant wait staff were the only highlights of our meal. Things fell short with quality of food and the price we paid. Working in the industry, you would think there would be a standard of sanitation with the price point but this was overlooked. We started with dirty silverware, I'm talking about DIRTY not water spots dirty, like not clean dirty. We were a party of six and three of us had dirty sticky silverware in our roll ups...yummy. The food and drinks were also so incredibly price gouged it was insane. Who serves chicken parm with a side of broccoli and no pasta? If you want pasta you get up charged TWELVE dollars for a dingy side of penne pasta (WHICH WAS YOUR ONLY OPTION) that is most likely 99 cents for a box. This makes the price of one entree upwards of forty dollars. Excuse me? The meatballs looked like small school lunch meatballs we couldn't believe it, not exaggerating. Also if you like salt, I'm talking a lot of salt to the point where you feel like you are swimming in the ocean, this is also your place. DAMN! Mushroom ravioli smelled delicious with truffle but was extremely heavy and unbalanced after a few bites, I felt sick. Penne a la vodka with chicken was cold and yep, you guessed it, extremely salty. Manhattan 22 bucks, we aren't cheap by any means and realize this is in a casino...but for what we paid and the quality we got served we were really disappointed and honestly shocked. We were celebrating a birthday and they brought over one small scoop of chocolate ice cream with one spoon for the six of us. Ate there while staying overnight with the family. Fine Dining it is not! Poor ambiance and 80's music that had no right being in an Italian restaurant. Overpriced pasta with clam sauce which the waitress proceeded to tell me it comes out "extremely dry", and that I should order (for an additional $6) an extra bowl of clam broth, which I did, and it was still dry after the pasta absorbed all the costly juice. Why not add a little extra broth while preparing it in the kitchen? The place seemed short staffed as the waitress herself was responsible for the bread (which we had to ask for), the water and the clearing of the plates? Foxwoods needs to get a better understanding of what "Fine Dining" really is, and recategorize Alta Strada as "Casual Dining" read more

Only good thing I can say about this place is the server and the busser's were awesome. The food is so not worth it. I paid $200 for a family of four for less than Olive Garden quality food. At that price you would expect for pasta and sauce to be house made but it tasted like frozen dinner quality. $200 was the price for 4 entrees, 2 beers, & 2 apps. I had my two children with me and had to pay adult prices for their food, they didn't have a children menu and would not accommodate. The chairs and tables looked run down and dirty. This was my first time at Alta Strada. We had a 6pm reservation before the Amazing Jonathon show. We were seated a bit early which was nice. The service was good but I think our server was a bit new and unfamiliar with the menu. We ordered the wine special which was a brunello for $75 and was delicious. Great choice at Fox tower for a wonderful meal. They start you off with delicious bread. Drinks were pricey but you're at foxwoods and they are HUGE! Check out my pic of my glass of sangria! Hubs had the bolognese and he said it was delicious. I opted for two appetizers and had the crispy eggplant and prosciutto with fig. On my first bite I thought maybe they gave me fried mozzarella because that's how creamy and delicious the inside of the crispy eggplant was...I've never tasted it this good! Highly recommend. The prosciutto and fig was spread across a crostini. Holy heaven! Service and food both were on point! Enjoyed our meal here. I'm surprised Alta Strada doesn't have better reviews because I had an absolutely fantastic meal here during my stay at Foxwoods. I was actually recommended this restaurant by a person who KNOWS Italian food so I was really excited to check it out. We started out with the bruschetta which was loaded with juicy cherry tomatoes with a creamy cheese, possibly ricotta or mascarpone. If I was a better Yelper I would have asked, but I was too busy eating. Then we had the roasted cauliflower which was quite possibly my favorite dish of the night. So crunchy and delicious! I thought the raisins would be a weird addition (probably because I hate raisins), but the sweetness was a perfect complement. For my main course, I had the pappardelle with duck ragu and cherries. Again, I really don't like fruits in my savory foods, but I wanted to try something unique and the sweetness of the cherries really hit the spot! The braised duck was like pot roast (but better and duckier!) and the pasta was delicious. I was pretty stuffed at this point, but the affogato dessert was calling my name. It was the perfect, not too sweet, slightly boozy ending and I stashed the two cookies it came with in my purse! I would highly recommend Alta Strada for a delicious meal. We had reservations for 6 PM and it was pretty empty (might have had something to do with the impeding nor'easter). Service was great and very attentive. There really isn't much good about this place....for the $$ we spent here I would have rather went across the way to Craftsteak. The bread is super hard and it's the same bread they use for all the appetizers....which were not that good. Due to unexpectedly savage traffic in Connecticut, we were 45 minutes late to our reservation. With only a minimum of fuss, the staff was able to move our reservation and seat us right when we arrived. Bonus points there. The ambiance is what I would describe as slightly-tired-casino-midscale, but it was spacious and there were plenty of room, both at the tables and between them. The service was a tad slow, but not hanger inducing. I opted for the prosciutto and fig jam appetizer. I'd love if the fig jam was on the side instead of slathered on the bread, since they really went nuts with the fig jam. But the prosciutto was tasty and freshly sliced. My main course was a sprawling chicken parmesan that was precisely what it was supposed to be. I always believe that ordering pasta in a casino restaurant is a waste of money, and that you should always opt for meat. I'm glad I did. The portion was great. Overall, I'd recommend it. Went this past weekend for a birthday celebration and was overcharge 400$. Noticed that we had order 17 entrees and 8 appetizers but when I looked at the bill once I got home we were charged for 26 entrees which is ridiculous. they took full advantage that we were all drinking and in a rush to go home. I'm shocked and appalled by their actions. I wouldn't be surprise if they do it to others. The food was overpriced and was not that great. read more
