Alta Strada is a small chain that I had heard of, so we made a reservation for dinner here during Red Sox weekend and were shocked at how quiet and deserted it was on a hopping Saturday night. The drinks were pretty pricey, even the glasses of wine were $15-17, but I enjoyed their special pomegranate margarita nonetheless. I'd wished there had been more diverse pasta dishes on the menu, but there were some good entree options as well. I decided on the Tagliatelle with homemade bolognese and my boyfriend had the giant chicken parm and both were delicious! We were so full at the end that we opted out of dessert seeing as we were taking home leftovers. We enjoyed the quiet and romantic atmosphere of the restaurant as well! read more

Went this past weekend for a birthday celebration and was overcharge 400$. Noticed that we had order 17 entrees and 8 appetizers but when I looked at the bill once I got home we were charged for 26 entrees which is ridiculous. they took full advantage that we were all drinking and in a rush to go home. The restaurant is beautiful and cozy, however the prices were astronomical for the quality and amount of food you receive. But being in Foxwoods, this is to be expected. Anywhere else this restaurant would not make it with their prices that high. I had the pasta in a bolognese sauce. The pasta was fresh but the sauce wasn't great, hardly any flavor. My husband had a brick over pizza with sausage, roasted red peppers, etc and it was good. Drinks were $15 a pop. Skipped on dessert. Service wasn't great. They know they don't have to be there and they'll still get a huge tip. The wife and I got away for a few days and came to the casino. On a Monday it wasn't very busy, probably because the impending snow storm. I couldn't decide which entree to get because of the great selections, so at the recommendation of our waitress I ordered the Crispy Chicken under a brick. Such a great meal!! The chicken was deboned, moist, and so flavorful! It came with roasted smashed potatoes, and sautéed spinach. This review is for the brunch buffet only. There were so many missteps in food and service that I won't detail them all. Just the highlights. We went for brunch on a Saturday morning. There were 12 of us, and the table was set up well. The place was almost entirely empty, which I should have taken as a hint. There isn't much for a waiter to do during brunch. Just keep the drinks coming, and handle any special requests. Drinks took a huge amount of time coming, and we had to follow up on one of the drinks two times before it arrived. In addition to drinks, the server had to bring cream cheese to the table for anyone who wanted it. It was strange. Why wasn't it up with the bagels? They treated it like it was gold, and only gave out two small pieces to anyone who asked for it. Nothing stood out, and several things were subpar. I've been to Alta Strada a few times when at Foxwoods, and the place really straddles the line between a 3* and a 4* review. The food isn't amazing, and the service has sometimes been slow, but I do enjoy a few of their dishes and have had some really good service, too. The food at Alta Strada is nice and for what it's worth is very good. The veal meatballs are outstanding. My family and I order them every time that we come here. The pasta is nice and proves to be pretty filling and delicious. The eggplant is a good choice too. Although it can become a little rich, but i suppose that's why it comes in small quantities. The eggplant itself is good, but the cheese and sauce that come with it tends to be a little overwhelming. I can never really finish it because of that reason. The desert here is the best in Connecticut. The mascarpores are hands down one of the best deserts that I've ever had. They're a sort of oreo type pastry that can be dipped in a fully oreo-like cream. There's a hint of espresso in the cookie and it's just right. The pastry chef here won an award for being the best in Boston a while back, and after eating these I'd venture to say that he's the best in New England. Definitely worth going. It can be a bit pricey, but if you're willing to splurge or reserve it for s special occasion then I would say that it's definitely worth it. read more

The food was delicious and we enjoyed ourselves. The one major downside was the manager interacting with our table. When dropping the cake off from celebrating a birthday she rudely said "excuse me" stood there and stared and proceeded to say it a second time louder and more rudely. When we let her know the person she was talking to was deaf and could not hear her, she said "okay" dropped the plate in front of my aunt and walked away without an apology. Appetizers are great in that the portions are definitely more than enough for 4 people. We ordered the calamari and crispy veal meatballs and to our surprise they came out hot, delicious and in large bowls! The table of entrees included: the mushroom ravioli, fedelini with clams, shrimp and spicy chitarra pasta, and eggplant parmagiana. All dishes were cooked to perfection. I have been to Italy and tasted the pasta there and it's been hard to find a place to match the flavor infused pasta. In america most of the time you need sauce for the taste. Alta Strada was not exactly Italy but it definitely satisfied our tastebuds and provided ample portions for the price. Compared to the other restaurants at MGM definitely a great value. The ambience was nice as well. Casino restaurants are usually overrated but this one fit the bill and left us satisfied and uber full. read more

I recently visited Alta Strada again, we were there before the "rush" of diners and had made a reservation in advance. We were seated right away and at a nice roomy booth. The service was prompt, the food was enjoyable. Their calamari is very tasty, although I had to ask for a spoon for the sauce and realized we didn't have one for the actual calamari. It was was me and my husband so we just used forks to spoon them into or dishes. I asked the server which pasta she recommended and advised I didn't like Alfredo like sauces. She recommended the mushroom ravioli and said it was a lighter creamy sauce. Although it was tasty, it was anything but light, definitely rich. I ended up getting a side dish to scrape some of the sauce off the ravioli and mushrooms. I'm sure most would love this dish I just tend to stay away from these types of sauces and am not used to the richness. Overall, the experience was better than the last time. read more

I give the experience one star because we did enjoy a nice bottle of Brunello there but starting with the appetizers we were disappointed. Surprisingly impressed with the dinner we had at Atla Strada recently! I thought it would just be average but it was very good. The service started out a bit slow but improved. The ambiance is romantic and warm. My water glass was never a sip below full. The food was delicious - the prosciutto and fig toast appetizer was plentiful and yummy, and the spicy pepper and sausage pizza was very good too. I am compelled to write this, never got to dinner left after 15 minutes...arrived 10 minutes early for our reservation. Greeted not warmly by the hostess who said this way and took us to our table right in front of the bussing station. My husband who really dines for the experience asked if we could have the empty booth not 20 feet away. She said "no we only have one server you have to sit here".Not sure why that mattered as I said the tables were very close. He then asked if we could sit in the dining room out back, she said "no it was closed". We reluctantly sat, I kid you not we hadn't even met our waiter when the hostess walked by and sat another party at the booth we had requested. My husband went to the hostess inquiring why? She stated that was a while ago, he said it was less than 5 minutes, she said well another server came on. OK... so he sits back down and like a comedy the hostess walks by with another party and sits them out back! My husband asks why she said they were sitting a large party, at that moment the manager came over asking if she could help. My husband told her what was happening and that she had also told him the back room was closed. To which the mgr asked her did you say that? She replied yes and when asked why she said that she said "I DONT KNOW " at that moment we were told that CEDARS STEAK HOUSE could sit us right away (a member of our party had called them while this was happening) so we told them we were leaving the mgr tried to apologize and said she would sit us out back but it was too late. Not sure if it was my age or color of skin but she didnt like something about us and we are fun people. ok..so we made a reservation 3 days before at 615. My husband put in the notes..quiet booth for romantic b-day celebration . The night before our reservation was changed to 415. No options. We get in there, they open at 4...all tables are open..we ask for a booth and they say that none are available..when I am staring at 10 booths. So, they seat us in the back at a 2 person booth....totally fine. I order a mojito..they do not muddle the mint at all and it is sour. My husband has to doctor it up by asking for mint and simple syrup. He makes it perfect. The waitress says...I don't know why they don't muddle the mint in the 1st place...she totally "got it". My hubby and I are chatting...I order the filet and he gets the bolognese. like I said...we were the 3rd or so table to be seated and they have us in the back. I am facing the kitchen. I notice a filet come up ready under the lights where they put the food before the server picks it up. That filet is there for 10 minutes...guess what..it's my filet. Hubby gets piping hot bolognese and I get a cold filet. Since when does pasta take longer than beef to cook. So, I have to send it back..for $64 ..I think I deserve a hot or even warm filet. My server says it will be just a few minutes. Then the manager comes over on her own and apologizes. She states that beef should always be done after pasta. She acknowledges the issue. So, 15 full minutes later, after my husband is done eating...I get the filet. We did not go to a restaurant to eat separately. The 40% discount means nothing to me. I didn't ask for a discount. I wanted to eat a meal together with my husband. Pretty bad! No apology..no thank you on the way out...nothing. We ate at juniors for lunch today and we had a better meal there with smiling employees who wanted to be there. If I were given a free meal at Alta Strada..I would say...NO THANKS! read more

Great restaurant at the Fox Tower where we enjoyed a delicious dinner after seeing a show. Our reservation was honored on time and we were immediately seated. The waiter was quick and very nice and apologetic when he had to tell me they had run out of a dish I'd ordered. We started with the Crunchy Eggplant which was so delicious. The freshness of the tomatoes and sauce were a wonderful complement to the eggplant. I could have easily eaten a few servings as my meal! For our main courses, both the Chicken under the brick and the Tagliatelle Bolognese were amazing. The serving sizes were perfect as we were just satisfied and not overly stuffed. I had initially ordered the trout but due to the overwhelming amount of shows that weekend, they had run out. The waiter was so apologetic and sincere. You could tell he was really concerned with our dining experience. We decided to pass on dessert since we were going to hunt for more cocktails, but the menu had some nice choices. My favorite restaurant in Foxwoods! The bianca pizza is my all time favorite pizza. Everything about it is perfect. The ricotta, the dough, the blend of cheeses, the oil and the amazing pepper blend. The pepper adds that perfect kick! I do order a side a marinara to dip the crust in because their sauce is really good too. The chicken parm is HUGE. Biggest I've ever seen and the best I've ever tasted. They also have homemade pasta which is always cooked to perfection. Order the crunchy meatballs as an appetizer! You won't regret it! They come in a spicy marinara sauce that is excellent. The only slightly negative thing I can say is that the bread they give you to start is a little hard but I don't care. The basil oil that they serve with it makes up for it. I'll always come here at least once when I visit Foxwoods. read more

It looked like a nice restaurant and once we went inside i asked the waitress her opinion of the restaurant (rhetorical question) and she said that they were 5 star. I'm going to take about 3 stars away. The ambiance and presentation was really good. Nice classy restaurant and the waitress was really nice. However, the purpose of going out to a restaurant is for the food and that was very disappointing. I could hands down say this was the worst Italian food I've ever had. It was terrible from start to finish. The bread was hard, the pasta was entry level cooking and it just didn't taste good. The calamari which was a simple appetizer was the worst part of the meal. It might as well have been calamari chips. If this place can work on their food they'll have a lot of potential. Otherwise two thumbs down for that expensive, disgusting meal. read more

Yes, I drove the hour and a half up here for dinner at Alta Strada. I'm a Michael Schlow fan and damn proud of it. I had my choice to head to Craft Steak or Alta Strada and I decided to hit this place first. I like the decor of this Italian haven inside a casino. It's rustic yet elegant and the type of place that makes you want to sit down and quickly order a glass of wine so you can breathe in your surrounding. The food wasn't very unique but it satisfied my Italian craving. We had the fried calamari (not my choice), the baked meatballs was delicious and tender... I think it was veal, not quite sure. I had the clam linguine and it was perfecto! Simple and light soaked in absolute delight! I would definitely come back here and spend all my MGM points on a grander meal! read more

After playing poker for six hours straight, when you're hungry and wondering if that guy who gifted you $50 in chips after your bad beat by another player is going to come around the corner demanding a hand job you don't remember signing onto anytime soon, a good meal on someone else's dollar is just the ticket to unwind. Alta Strada was the unwinding place. The decor is subdued but swank, and it feels open and inviting in a cozy dim-lit way that makes you think of good food and soft music. In fact the music was at times inappropriately clubby, but the ambience was still there. Our party of five split a couple bottles of wine that my tired ass did little to participate in and a few appetizers to start. We chose the fried calamari, the roasted beet salad, the bruschetta with roasted peppers, and a smaller plate of eggplant caponata. Of the bunch, the eggplant caponata was the best. It just gushed with flavor. The calamari was another winner, fried right so the breading was at a nice lull between soggy and crunchy, with a nice zing in the sauce accompanied well by a squeeze of lemon. The beet salad was great, though lean on the beets. The bruschetta I could've done without. Not bad, just boring. We were also given thick slices of crusty bread with something green - mint-infused olive oil from the taste of it. Our server kind of poured it onto a plate without explanation. Not generally the way to go with anything green and liquid, but sure. It was pretty tasty and definitely interesting. For my entree I tried to order the halibut, but they were sold out. We were seated at 9, so I don't hold that against them. I might have, but the yellowfin tuna they suggested in its place was delicious. It came seared and pepper-crusted on a bed of grilled eggplant, artichoke, caramelized onions and roasted peppers, with a wedge of candied tangerine. That is a bed I would like to sleep on every night. There were lots of flavors on that plate, and they all fused together for a bright zesty dish. It didn't hurt that the tuna was cooked perfectly, which is to say, not very cooked at all. We ordered two desserts, a strawberry rhubarb crostata and a coconut cheesecake, and were comped one...boconnotto? A big ol' cream puff. The free dessert was the weakest, but we didn't complain. The crostata, which is fancy-pants for tart, was decent, but the real prize was the cheesecake, which had just the right amount of coconut and a tiny dab of chocolate. Creamy, rich, and wonderful. My tea came from a bag, but I suppose if it's going to do that it might as well be Mighty Leaf presented in a pimped-out velvet tea box right? Service, despite the mysterious pouring of green flavoring fluid, was fantastic. Our waitress was adorable with these a quirky little hairstyle like pigtails tied in loops. She was attentive and pleasant all throughout. Bread was refilled on demand and our plates and place settings were cleared with marvelous thorough efficiency. I have a feeling Foxwoods and I will be seeing a lot of each other as long as I live out east. I'm happy to have found a decent place to swallow a meal. read more

My wife and I ate here when we came into town to see a show at the casino. I've walked by this place hundreds of times. We were in the mood for a nice dinner but the steakhouse in the casino was just a bit too pricey.. so we chose this place. I'm not sure if this place is actually a 5, but we had a waiter who was so good, that I couldn't possibly rate it any less just based on the fact that he was serving us. I believe Aaron is his name. My wife and I agreed to ask the waiter what he likes to eat, because he was so passionate about the menu here. He got us very excited for our meal and was so knowledgeable about the food and wine that you'd think he was the chef creating it. We got his two favorite dishes and a bottle of wine that he recommended. I had the pork loin and my wife had the 'brick chicken' dish and they were both beyond our expectations. My wife wasn't very hungry, but she felt bad wasting the food since we had to get off to see the show. The waiter overheard this and offered to put it in the fridge in the back for us until after the show. Came here with a group of 12 with a reservation at 7pm. Our waiters/waitresses were all great, super friendly and answered all our questions! We were seated on time but were warned that the kitchen was running late and it may take extra time for our food to come out. It did take quite a bit of time for appetizers to come, and then bread, and then our meals. That was probably my biggest qualm is that in a casino you don't want to be spending half your night waiting for your food, I know we were a big group but the whole restaurant was moving pretty slow. The food however was delicious and I would wait extra for it to eat again. The spaghetti AOP was what I got and it did not disappoint, nothing better than classic fresh spaghetti with sauce. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals, and drinks were good also. For desert we got the cookies with cream (don't remember what it was actually called) but oh my lanta they were SO GOOD I want to go back to Foxwoods just for those cookies! read more

If there was a zero star option, they deserve it. A group of 10 of us planned an event for one night at Foxwoods. We made a reservation in January for Alta Strada and when we went this Saturday they didn't call back for a confirmation so we called up and they said they have no record of the reservation but they can seat us at 8:30 instead of 8 which would have been fine. By 9:30 our party was getting restless and wanted to eat. The hostess did not apologize or try to make amends to get a table ready even if meant to split us up into smaller groups which we said was fine. We had to ask for some bread while we waited, and then we just up and left. They did not help what so ever, and I agree with some of the other poor reviews for this place. The entire staff needs lessons in hospitality and customer service. I will NEVER go back to this restaurant. read more

There were very few positives associated with our visit last night and I will be sure to note those as well. Upon entry, the hostess was very nice and personable. She brought us to a table right away (only restaurant in the casino without a wait at 7:30 on a Sat night). We were then greeted promptly by our server and she asked if we would like some water to start our meal. I stated I would like a glass of water - the largest you have so she didn't have to refill it numerous amounts of times...experience downhill from there. I got the rudest look and she walked away, obviously forgetting about my wife sitting right next me and seeing if she wanted something to drink. She then returned with my water, just putting it on the table and walking away. In the meantime, she had three other tables that she dropped checks, cashed out and cleared - still not coming back to us. 15-20 minutes later, she came back and finally asked what we would like to eat and what my wife would like to drink. We were informed that the burgers do take a little long than normal but because we ordered an appetizer, the wait shouldn't feel as bad. Another couple sat down at one of her 3 perviously cleared tables - and a different server waited on them - nearly 25-30 minutes after we had arrived. To my dismay, this table also ordered burgers and wouldn't you know it, their food came out before ours! I was about to lose my mind - and keep in mind, throughout this 35-40 minute window of waiting for a burger and a piece of salmon, our server was NOWHERE TO BE FOUND. I sought out the Manager, who was extremely understanding, and explained my issue with him. He looked into the issue and brought our food out 7 minutes later. The taste of the food...divine. The atmosphere...not bad, the constant banging of something trying to come through the wall behind us was a little annoying but it was well lit and the aromas from the kitchen were pleasant. The rosemary and parsley was a great touch on the home cut french fries and my wife devoured the fresh sautéed vegetables with her meal. At the conclusion of our meal, we never saw our server again. I asked another server that "if she could find our server, can she ask her to bring us our check". She apparently couldn't find her either, because the server who was not ours brought us the check. Decent food, decently priced for inside the casino but service was dreadful and did not leave me wanting to come back for more. The one person who stood out was the guy filling waters, resetting tables, he brought our bread, Juanito...he was the most pleasant and nicest person aside from the Manager we encountered - great job to him!!! read more

Alta Strada gave me the refresher I needed in the world of Italian food. Although I eat out a lot, I never find myself going out of the way for high-end Italian restaurants because I figure, "non-gourmet" Italian is pretty delicious and cheap so why bother. Plus, I'm sick of stupid Rhode Island where places charge high end prices but still use box pasta. I might say that Alta Strada blew away my expectations, but hey my bar was set pretty low. Don't be put off by the 3 star average because I noticed that a lot of the 1-2 star ratings were less than helpful. I came here for a birthday dinner and they accommodated our big group flawlessly and there were lots of big groups that night. The service was perfect. I had to try the homemade ricotta appetizer because, hello, how often do you see homemade ricotta? It was drizzled with olive oil, herbs and hot red pepper which made it extra rich and creamy. The endive salad was delicious and dressed with just a tiny hint of dressing, just the way I liked it. All of the pasta is made in house so you should definitely get some! I had the tagliatelle bolognese. The handmade pasta was very thin and gave such a nice warm, rich complement to the bolognese. I don't remember too many of the details because I was having a good time. My husband had the pappardelle with spicy pork ragu and herbed ricotta - more of that homemade ricotta! It wasn't over spiced and I liked his dish better than mine, mostly because the cheese made it gooey and creamy. Pasta bowls are a good sized portion, not ridiculous like Olive Garden, but not so tiny that you'd walk away hungry. What I liked most about the dishes is that all of the flavors were perfectly balanced. Nothing was too garlicky, spicy, oily or smothered in cheese. Every ingredient shined through. The Sunday Brunch Buffet, I must say I did enjoy it. At $25 a person you get a great selection. (Also a great hangover remedy!) Everything tasted fresh and was cooked to the right temperature. There are plenty of choices to choose from, cold foods, ie. fruit salad, pasta salad, and the hot food selection, which had everything from ham to bacon to chicken parm. They even had a good salad bar which made my meal that much better. I also ordered a mimosa which complimented my brunch pretty well. It was never too busy the times I've dined. What a nice looking restaurant! Took a seat at the bar, saw the food everyone was ordering and had to try something! The bartender told us that they do offer half portions of some of the appetizers so we chose the veal meatballs and the seasoned fries. These went so well with the craft beer selection they offer. The meatballs were amazing! Since you are inside Foxwoods and there are so many restaurants to try, I would suggest coming here, splitting this appetizer, have a drink, and move on. Alta Strada - Half order of the veal meatballs and fries, great appetizer to pair with drinks - Italian Near Me - Mashantucket, Connecticut

We were there with a group of 10. Each of us had a drink and an entree. It wasn't anything fancy and we were a pretty easy group. My food was delicious and everyone else seemed to agree. Atmosphere was nice. Not fancy but not too casual. Perfect for what we were looking for. I don't think I would eat here again mainly due to the service. The bar tender dumped an ENTIRE drink on my friend. Apologized profusely. Where they went wrong was not even attempting to assist in cleaning up the pond on our table or offering really any assistance. We used half of the napkins at our table. Then once finished cleaning and with a new drink at the table, we had to ASK for more napkins all around and some more forks/knives. And somehow at the end of all of that, we still ended up paying for that drink. I don't understand how that wasn't instantly dropped from the bill. All in all, the service needs to be better. They weren't quick to things. Forgot drink menus. Served bread but no butter/oil to go with it. Asked for another round of drinks that never came. Food was good, but I can get good Italian food at many other places with better service. read more

We just returned to what we affectionately refer to as "our place" for our 5th anniversary. Our anniversary actually fell on a Sunday, but we held off going out until Tuesday just so we could have Aaron as our server. He makes the whole experience for us to the point where we will be heartbroken if he ever leaves! (Hint hint, never leave!) Great food recommendations, above and beyond attentive, and funny as hell.... Could not ask for more in a server. The food was incredible as always, the atmosphere was great, and the service was more than perfect to give us the best date night. An unfortunate dining experience, especially given the price and location. Both my and my daughters pasta dishes were bland, dryed out and lacked any reasonable amount of sauce not to mention they both appeared to having been left under the lights on the line for too long. The bread needed to be handled in order to be shared properly, not pre-cut and no knife was included. Also, it was was served with a bland green dipping sauce that was presented on a shallow bread dish. My beverage glass was dirty on the outside, the dishwasher water probably needed to be changed. The dining room had a birds eye view to all the TV's in the bar adding to it's lack of elegance and ambiance. I found it was trying to hard to be cutting edge and simply ended up being over pretentious with a lack of attention to the most important and basic of details. read more
