Very good tavern style pizza. We did a half pepperoni and half sausage pizza. Both were good, yet the pepperoni while it was generous in portion was a tad on the greasy and saltier side. The sausage was definitely the fan favorite for the kids. I have to say the pizza crust was really enjoyable, crispy throughout and not too paper thin and robust enough to hold all toppings. As far as service, it's best to call in ahead to put in your order, as I've heard they only pump out 100 or so pizzas per day and seem to be in high demand. For example, we called in on a weekday at 4:45pm and pick up wouldn't be until 6:35pm. So roughly, two hour wait which was on par with what I've read about. The shop itself is very small. Only two tables and the rest of the space is dedicated to the kitchen and pizza oven. I'd recommend taking to go as inside runs hot from the big ol' oven. Chicago Tavern style pizza, is a term that currently identifies the thin cracker style crust cut into squares. Kim's Uncle Pizza meets this definition, but in my opinion that is where it ends. Our pizza was cooked perfectly and had a even distribution of sausage. The sauce had a unique taste and texture. The sausage offers a different flavor, not spicy or sweet. I was happy that I gave it another try, the sausage is not for me. Next time I will try the pepperoni. My tip is to order early, I placed my order in person at 5:20 pm and was told it would be ready at 8:20 pm. read more

The fates must have been on our side, as we called and only had a 30 minute wait until our pizza would be ready for pickup. There's plenty of parking in the lot just north of the restaurant, and when I stepped out of my car and into the chilly January air, it was like a religious experience - the smell, THAT GOOD SMELL, the smell you smell when you know you're about to have some truly tremendous pizza. Inside is little more than a counter, a couple of booths, and a stool to sit on and wait, and it couldn't be any more charming. The pizza box stole my heart too, not your average boot of Italy here. When I found out they were nit taking phone orders for Taste of Westmont, I was there in a heartbeat. They offered a special menu for the festival which allowed my husband and I to try multiple items. The staff worked efficiently to take orders & payment, provided a pick up time, and had a side window when orders were ready to divide the lines. Our order was ready at the exact time they told us! For food, we got the 10" cheese pizza, 10" sausage pizza, and side of two meatballs. The cheese blend on the pizza was super tasty and sausage was well seasoned and fresh tasting. Finally got the chance to try this place out. My friend called in the order and stated he had to call at least 10 times before he was able to get through to place the order. Then, there was about an hour and a half wait. We tried 4 pies, and they were pretty tasty. My favorite was the sausage, followed by the Italian beef. Others in our group enjoyed the hot honey and pepperoni, but I found that one to be pretty greasy. They only have 2 small booths inside which are cramped. I live over 2 hours away from Kim's Uncle and I've been hear plenty of times. Any time I'm in the area I make a plan to get here. This last visit though was a special trip just for the pizza and neither the pizza nor the staff disappointed. I'm going to shout out the staff first. I had a standard order, but then had a request in person. The manager (taller gentleman with glasses) and the girl who prepped my order were great. They not only made my day, but they made my week! Thanks so much for all of your hard work! On to the food. This pizza is fantastic and really is special. There is not a single aspect of their pizza they haven't thought about. I don't think some people understand how difficult a package it is to put this thin tavern style together. And let me tell you, I've never had a bad pizza from them once. The crust, sauce, cheese and toppings have all been perfected as a total package. I'm assuming this took some time. They also use only fresh quality ingredients too, and this isn't paying them lip service. The pizza is an original too as it has its own flavor. It is "spicy" for lack of a better word, but I love it. I'm either a just cheese or cheese and sausage guy. Cheese is fine, but I go sausage every single time. It's phenomenal. I personally go light sausage which I think leaves plenty of sausage. On a side note, they also offer cheesy bread, or cheese garlic bread. That too is excellent. I'm also going to comment on some of the other reviews here. If you don't like the pizza, fair game. However, I would challenge you to do a little research ahead of time so you know what you're talking about. This is a very specific type of pizza, even for tavern style. Also, you have to call ahead. They take orders over the phone at 3pm and even a random weeknight can be busy. So keep that in mind. And don't complain if you didn't call ahead and couldn't get a pizza. This review is late, but I picked up a pizza here while in Chicago this summer and I can't get it out of my head. There was another spot I was originally trying to go to and they had odd hours, so I decided to try this place. My fiance tenaciously planned to get us dinner from here on a Friday night; they open their phone line for orders at 3 pm and he said he had to call 28 times to get through and then was put on a five minute hold, but he did succeed! Takeout is pretty much the way as there are only two tables in the restaurant, so if you don't live in Westmont, bring an insulated bag or find a park to picnic in! The food was definitely worth it: the pizza crust was crisp yet chewy with spicy little pepperoni all over the surface, and the cheesy bread was a nice balance of the ingredients. Pizza maven out in the pizza wasteland known as Chicago. While some of the pies here have become well known (like Malinatti's, Giordano's, & Uno) they all tend to suck for one reason or another. Last night, however, the stereotype of bad Chicago style pizza (the tavern type, not the crap referred to as deep dish) was smashed with a visit to Uncle Kim's Pizza. I ordered two pies; a plain cheese & a Chicago beef with giardiniera (both 14", the only size available.) yes, the wait is long between ordering & actually receiving your pizza, but in the end, it is SO worth it. So be patient & don't knock the process, just enjoy the end result. The cheese had the right stretch & snap, the sauce was over-the-top excellent; one of the best anywhere (when I walked into Uncle Kim's, I took notice that the smell in the air was dead-on what I look for in a pizzeria. The smell of quality tomato sauce.). The plain cheese was the best tavern style pie I ever had. While the crust IS cracker-like, it worked as a great vehicle for the toppings. It had flavor and enough texture to blend perfectly with the toppings. The Chicago beef pizza will stay with me awhile. One of the greatest pizzas I ever encountered. This place is a different take than your average pizza joint. It gives you old school carryout vibes and small seating but honestly it works. Only 2 small booths to sit at with some seating outside behind the restaurant. Came here after hearing great things from people in this part of town. This is about a 35 minute drive for me, but I figured it was worth a try. Service was good, people behind the counter were very eager to explain the story and tell us how it all started. We ordered the Halal pepperoni pie and it was exactly what we imagined it to be. About 20-25 mins for the pizza to come out. Extremely thin and crispy that pictures just don't do justice. It was cooked perfectly and didn't make you feel like you over eat because you could just do that, keep eating! The only part about this experience that I was not expecting was the entire pie was a little salty, it could've been the sauce or the pepperoni or maybe even a mix of both. I still enjoyed it. Terrific quality - Faulds oven makes the difference. Not a fan of the finishing cheese so I usually ask them to skip it. Actually getting thru on the phone to place an order is like winning the lottery. They make you work to get a pizza. Constant callbacks until you finally get someone to pick up still doesn't guarantee anything. Prepare to invest significant time to place an order and even then you might only get a "slot" for 8pm or something outrageous. Best tavern style in the Western burbs. The crust is fermented but cracker thin. Edges are always charred. I order an easy bake b/c I'm not a fan. Sauce is a bit spicy. Service is good. Pizzas are always ready right on time. Walk in, pay, walk out in about 3 min. Staff is a bit saucy as well but not to customers. There's a mgr or owner that should not be managing people. People love this place, so I'm just spitting into the wind with my negative opinion. I don't understand the allure of Kim's Uncle at all. For the crust, imagine a circle of cardboard, completely drenched in grease. Like, if you had a circle of cardboard and you pushed it down into a sink full of grease. On top of that, add the absolute bare minimum of cheese and sauce. Biting into Kim's Uncle Pizza feels like eating the single greasiest cracker ever created. Like if you took a tortilla chip and rubbed fried chicken all over it. My tongue recoils the minute a slice of this pizza hits it. Reality check. I read the reviews. I looked at the posted pictures. Looks like my type of pie! Here's the scoop. Unfortunately, the pizza looks much better than it tastes. I called shortly after 3pm, and the call was answered immediately- no wait - and I asked a critical question: is your sausage made in house or do you purchase it from a distributor? This is a key factor because I'm a thin crust pizza/sausage connoisseur. Pizzeria's that make their sausage in house are few and far between. Roberto's in Elmhurst and Vito and Nicks in Chicago, for example. So, the voice on the phone said it was made by someone else but it was a proprietary recipe just for them. Plausible. Anyway, after arriving and getting our pie it was the moment of truth. It looked outstanding! Crispy, and super thin. Then I took a bite.....no way this sausage is not commercial. Sorry for the double negative. I would bet it's from Greco meats, who provide sausage to virtually every pizza place in the city. Bland. So I live in a different state and heard the hype about this little pizza place. Ok, it was my sister, but Kim's was high on her list of places to try. We placed our order at 4:30 on a Saturday and got a 7:15 pick up time. And then we wait. I love that it's one size pizza, you pick the toppings. We got one pepperoni--it's a baseline. And one sausage and mushroom. When we got home, the three of us each got a snack piece while we put the boxes right in the oven to help heat it up a tad and get plates, drinks, etc ready to go. One bite and we're all singing it's praises. The ronis have quite a kick and there are a lot of them. My preference would be fewer so they all turn into crispy cups. The sausage had great flavor.
