I use to go here all the time when the old owner was here. New owner is rude and will find ways to rip you off.

i've brought dresses for alterations here twice. the location is less than a mile from where i live, so i found this place out of convenience. the first time was a couple years ago, a bridesmaid dress that i needed fitted, and i thought whoever helped me did an ok job, however it still didn't fit quite right. 3 stars. however more recently, the second time, this place came through with flying colors. i think the lady who helped me was named janet? anyways, she altered a dress i needed for a wedding in less than 24 hours, and it turned out PERFECT and fit like it was custom-made. it wasn't a typical hemming/normal alteration either. i was blown away. she did an amazing job! it was a little bit pricey but given the time constraint and unusual alteration, it was understandable, and i have to give this place props. 5+ stars! i will definitely be a returning customer. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Alteration Express. I am a size 2 and was for some reason sent a size 10 bridesmaid dress that had tons of crazy details (ruffles, pleats, crumb catcher back, etc). I was so worried that there was NOTHING that can be done....well I went here and she made the dress amazing. She literally had to take apart and re-sew the ENTIRE dress. It came out looking great- which was outstanding considering how hideous it was when I came in. Not only was she able to completely make a new dress but she did it in less than a week! She even had me in for a fitting to re-adjust and to make it perfect.....plus! the price was amazing. I will go here for ALL my alterations needs- she is amazing. read more

Said they would shorten the bottom of a dress by the next day and would call when it was ready (pretty simple task). When I realized they hadn't called me by 5:00 pm (they close at 7:00 pm) I called and no one picked up. I didn't have my dress for a super important work trip. Rude and does not listen to what you want. I brought in a dress to be hemmed for my daughter's wedding. It had a chiffon skirt and a satin under slip. Brought the shoes too so the length would be correct. . Told her I want it shortened so it would be off the ground by 1 inch. She told me "no, should touch." I told her OFF THE GROUND. She say "OK 1/2 inch" and pinned it. Also she took it up at the shoulder as it was sleeveless and my bra showed. I told her to leave in the bra holder that was in the dress. A week later, when I came to pick it up, it was uneven and touched the ground in several places. She said it's a full skirt and was uneven to begin with. HUH???!!! She pinned it again. Plus the bra holder was not there anymore. I told her to please fix the dress and put back in the bra holder. Another week went by. I went to pick it up, the bra holder was back but it was barely off the ground and uneven but I just took it. They were rude and I paid about $150 for the hem I would NEVER recommend them, they are over priced and rude. I was always told "the customer is always right". She seems to think that she is always right, does not listen to or do what customer wants. read more

Just like everyone else, I cannot say enough good things about this little company. After being Jerked around by a horrible Bridal Salon, cough..cough Here Comes the Bride in San Diego....cough cough, my sister needed her wedding gown altered in 2 days. As Alterations Express is close to my work, I new she would be worth a try. Before having my sister drive up from Venice, passing hundreds of tailors on her way, I asked the woman in the store if she was up for the challenge, she said yes. Reluctantly my sister drove up. She did the fitting in about 20 minutes, they discussed exactly what needed to happen and my sister told her EVERYTHING that needed to be done to complete her picture of perfection. This was Wednesday at 6pm. She assured my sister that Friday it would be ready. My sister thanked her and walked out freaking out, "What if something goes wrong? What if they accidentally destroy the dress? And, This is probably going to cost another $1000." She knew it had to be done though.. Friday at 4:30 the woman walks to my work to tell me that the dress is ready. Really, who does that!? That was so nice!!!!!! So my sister, in psycho bridal mode, comes up about 2 hours later just before they close. She was nervous. The woman had advised her to get some spanx for the perfect silhouette. So spanx in hand my sister puts the dress on. It simply glided on, zipped up perfectly and met my sisters high standards of perfection. Really, not one thing wrong!? Nothing! SO now my sister was really sweating. She knew it would be at least $1000. After getting quotes at tailors near her house, she knew it had to be more than $500. It was less!!!??? Less than $500, in 2 days for perfect alterations and expert advise all done with courtesy, respect and a smile on her face!!! Never will I use anyone else!!! NEVER! They are the best! read more

This place saved me!!! I needed to alter my dress last minute. I was so scared to drop off my gown 2 days before needing it and having such a big job done. The staff reassured me that it will be ready Saturday morning and to trust that they will do a good job. It was ready ontime and the gown looked great. I had gone to two other tailors before coming here and each of them quoted me twice as much as this place did. So it all worked out well. read more

Great! Called at 4:00 pm to make sure it could be done, went in and left at 4:45pm with a hemmed pair of Marc Jacobs jeans for $10 (regular hem charge). Could not believe that what normally takes a week at other places was done while I went to the ATM and dropped off my dry cleaning...on a Saturday evening. Nice and attentive service. I had the craziest experience at Alteration Express today. I found it on Yelp as I was in the neighborhood and just needed to find the closet tailor to shorten the length of a new dress. The woman pinned my dress, it was a simple process, and quoted me $30. As I walked to the dressing room and closed the curtain, I saw her look at the price tag that I hadn't removed from the dress yet. When I came out she told me it was going to be $80. I reminded her that she just told me $30. She gave me some nonsense about how it's a complicated job because it's 2 layers and it's essentially like shortening 4 dresses (what??). I said you are going to charge me $80 to hem a dress?? She said ok what do you want to pay? I said $30 like you quoted me. Then I decided I probably shouldn't continue this discussion and just go... so I asked her to give me the dress back. She didn't hand it to me so I walked over to grab it and she grabbed it back!! She wanted to remove the pins...We nearly got into a fight! I went to another tailor in West Hollywood with good Yelp reviews, and he did it for $40, which was totally fair. Omg! DO NOT GO HERE! This lady is the worst!!! She had a coat of mine for two weeks and never even began altering it! All it needed was to be hemed! When I got there to pick it up she said that it was too much work. I asked her why she didn't call me and she said she forgot because she was too busy. I became a customer of Irena's more than 20 years ago when she opened her first shop in Pacific Palisades. I continue to drive from Pacific Palisades to her shop on La Cienega because she is the only person in L.A. whom I trust with my alterations. After bringing her various items of clothing over the years that were initially tailored at high-end retailers (Barneys, Prada, etc.), I learned my lesson: I forego all in-store alterations (even if they are free) and head straight to her shop. Irena is an expert at what she does and her prices reflect the quality of her work. She is congenial, kind and respectful of her customers. Perhaps those who have left negative reviews do not offer her the same consideration. read more

Truly excellent work. I have had jackets, pants, suits, and all types of alterations done here. Out of the twenty+ items there was only one time I thought a waste size was not perfect (who knows if I lost weight in that time as there were two pants), and they redid the pants no questions. This is the fourth tailor I used in Los Angeles before settling in, so I'm not easily impressed. read more

Not only does she have a quick turnaround on her work, but each piece she has tailored for me (which has been a lot) was pure quality: suits, jeans, shirts, etc. I have referred my friends, who also love the work done here. She takes the time to listen to what you want, and also offers valuable input. Amy tailors clothing for many of the top stores in the area; styles ranging from conservative to contemporary. WASTE OF TIME. A couple of days ago, I came in with some of my things to get alterations and to get a quote. I was told that the owner, Amie (?) is not in and I have to come back either later that day or next day. As it turns out she was not in either later that day or yesterday when I stopped by again. Yet again I was told that she's the only one to give quotes and she won't be in the store all day yet again and that she's doing a fitting somewhere else. I left yet again... how can anyone run a business like this?! If the owner's not there - why not train the staff to give a quote? What a waste of time! read more

If you want professional alterations, this is the place to go. I've known Irene for over 15 years and she has always been the one to do all of my alterations. Before, she had her alteration business in Pacific Palisades, and now she's the new owner of Alteration Express. I brought my one of a kind couture gown that I was wearing for a wedding 2 weeks ago and she and Zhanna did a superb job. Maybe their customer service isn't top notch (you have to understand cultural differences and try not to judge or take it personally), but at least you know that your alterations will always come out perfect. read more

The lady who was sitting at the desk was so disrespectful. From the moment I walked in the tone she used to tell me to have a seat was rude from the very beginning. Once she called me up to her desk 10 minutes later (which btw she was chit chatting with one of the other employees during this time), I showed her my dress and asked her the price and when she answered I asked her if that was a fixed price (since the price quoted was very high for such a small task) in the nicest tone possible since she already seemed mad to which she told me to take my dress and walk out if I was going to "find a problem with everything". She also did a lot of other rude things but I would not at all recommend this place to anyone, and really hope that the lady who behaved rudely with me today reads this post and knows that that is no way to treat a customer and perhaps should change her attitude cause it was rude and unnecessary.
