First point: This Korean family has the best customer service! They are very friendly, informative, and patient. I have been here for the past 3 years to hem pants, jeans, and a Chinese dress. They have also done the "original hem" for my R&R and True Religion jeans. I also had my work suits (pants,skirt,jackets) taken in when I lost some inches. All work was very professional and neat looking. Before my wedding almost 2 years ago, my Matron of Honor and one of my bridesmaids had their gowns hemmed and it turned out great! The pricing is very resonable and the turn-around time is pretty fast. Also, their cute friendly dog (I think his name is Mambo) is there to greet you. I also like the classical music in the background. Like with any service, if you are not comfortable with how it turned out, just kindly let them know. I don't understand the negative reviews here at all. Generally you shouldn't leave important alterations to the last minute because you would want to make sure you have enough time to make any further changes and time to pick it up. I've taken in many dresses to get hemmed here and had zero problem picking it up. Prices are quoted as an estimate in the beginning, but I understand that something may change after beginning the work (although my estimate and final price have never changed). Was nervous about the raw hem because she said they have to use a line of thread to seal the edge (and the manufacturer uses laser which they don't have) I appreciated her honesty regarding that and the thread they used is pretty much invisible so I'm happy! my daughter took her prom dress to get altered and after trying it on and getting it pinned the seamstress said she would have it ready on Thursday at 2pm. We were told cash only was was given a ticket. I go to pick up the dress at 2 pm the day of the prom and the seamstress says "it's my lunchtime can you come back in a hour" I said no you said 2 and we have things to do and get to. I asked what have you done to the dress so far? she said nothing. my daughter had to wear her too big dress to prom with safety pins because of this place. Beware and do not take your business here. I took my business there based on a friend's recommendation. When I went to pick my dress up, turned out she hadn't altered it the way she said she would (tapering the sides and shortening the top part), so I had to leave my dress there to be fixed again. The older lady (the owner?) was rude and yelled at me from her sewing station in the back saying she has done a great job altering my dress and she is too busy to fix it. Meanwhile, the younger lady at the front desk acknowledged the problem and agreed that my dress needs to be fixed. The older lady kept yelling as I was walking out the door while the younger lady was apologizing.... and there were other customers inside the store. Left me confused and unhappy. I do not recommend. I'm in nursing school & on a budget. I'm 5ft 2, and my scrub pants for school are always a bit long for me. I've gotten all my scrub pants hemmed here. It's hard to pass an offer when it's only $5 for a straight hem! All my new scrub pants from school and work get altered here with no complaints! I've also come here for an emergency quick scrub hem & they completed it on the spot. Just love this family owned business, & I don't mind that it's a cash only place. The convenience of living close by this place means I don't have to drive far, and they are always so nice to me, even when it's super busy I always feel that they really work hard to make their customers happy :) I'll be definitely coming back to this place! I came here based on the great reviews and was shocked to receive such bad quality service and customer care. I've had a lot of jeans ruined here (because I was stupid and took more than one to get altered at the same time) but I'll narrow it down to the most atrocious experience from the others. I bought my mom a pair of Paige denim for over $200 but the length was a bit too long so we took it to these so called "specialists" to get the original hem done on the jeans. I've gotten original hems done on many of my jeans in the past from another tailor and know what it looks like but my goodness, they just butchered my mom's pants! This is going to be a long post but please read about my experience before you consider going here. My mom went in and wore sandals that were about two inches high and the guy, Karlos, measured the jeans and pinned them for that length (to the bottom of the shoe) as to make sure they weren't going to be too short (just in case). However, when we went to go pick up the pants, the length was indeed too short while trying on the pants barefoot. It was an inch too short to be exact and like I have said, my mom got these pants measured wearing high sandals! How does this happen?! Okay, so people make mistakes and that's fine AND we got the original hem done so I'm thinking it's going to be okay. ...Actually, no, it's not going to be okay because the lady "specialist" had cut off all of the remaining length and just kept the original stitching to make it "original hem." That's not all what ORIGINAL HEM is supposed to be about, it's also about keeping the full length of the pants. I checked with other tailors after this incident just to make sure I wasn't mistaken and all the tailors I had asked stated that you're not supposed to cut anything off from the pants if the client asks for original hem. Anyway, so we take the pants back and ask the lady what she can do and she says there really isn't anything that she can do and goes on to explain why that is and, really, it doesn't make any sense. She's just trying to make excuses for her mistake. She tells us she will do whatever she can to make it "wearable." We leave the pants and hope for the best. We go back in a few days to pick it up and she's basically made the pants into franken-pants. She took the hem off and somehow reattached it to the bottom. Why would you cut off the length to begin with!? What if you want it longer down the road?? What if the person measuring it made a mistake?? In the end, she said that was all she could do and continued to make excuses without apologizing! I hate how people make mistakes and they can't own up to it. If she had simply apologized for her short comings it wouldn't have aggravated us further. In addition to this, she has the audacity to tell us to keep our voices low so her other clients can't hear our conversation about the ruined pants. Oh, and she says that for future reference we have to ASK them to make the pants longer even though they measure it. Ummm... so why the hell do you measure it in the first place if you have to ask for it be longer? I mean, in the end it didn't even matter right? Seeing how my mom wore higher shoes to compensate for marginal measuring errors and it still ended up looking like floods on her. Also, I don't think we are the only ones who had a problem with the pants being too short because there was another client there with us who wanted her velour pants to be shortened an inch and they took off 3 inches. That lady seemed pretty angry too because she was cursing on her way out. It looked like she had a pretty simple hem job on those too, as did my husband's jeans but they still managed to make it crooked. Like, my husband had said, maybe they have a blind person in the back hemming the pants. I guess if you want to rock the "floods-look" you will be most happy here. However, the Korean gal that works here and her Husband are INSANE! No concept of what customer service is. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SELVEDGE DENIM ALTERATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've had about over 18+ pairs of all my chinos& dress pants& jeans & SELVEDGE denims over the years from the owner lady here. All my pants have a great fit (i like to wear things slim) because of her amazing job. She studied design in her younger years, so she has the eye for it and she knows what she's doing. Out of all the pants that she's fixed for me, I want to make a special note for selvedge denim alteration that she took care of for me recently. It's not common to find a place in OC trustworthy enough for you to hand them your selvedge denim to be tailored, especially if what you're trying to get is a TAPERing WITHOUT RUINING THE EDGE ( edge: the red/white tape that runs along the length of the selvedge denim http://www.rawrdenim.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/selvedge-denim-jeans.gif ). If you check out other tailors in OC, they charge up to 20 for hemming and 50 for tapering(well, 50 if it involves chain stitching --but this is not too necessary if you're going to taper the denim for a narrower fit unless you do want the rope effect at the end of your jeans after hemming) But I've already had 2 pairs of my Naked and Famous denim tapered and hemmed by this lady, and I can't be any more pleased and relieved to have my denim tapered by her. If you're like me and you own a pair of selvedge denim that is a little bit baggy for your taste, you might be wondering if you should give this away or wear it as ugly as it is. But the lady here understands that she's only allowed to split open the inside inseam and she knows how to work around it to give you the taper you want without ruining the edge. Just to be more specific with the work that she did, I'm going to show what she was able to do. (The measurements for size 30 is also listed in this link here : http://www.contextclothing.com/item.php?id=665 ) I showed the lady what I wanted and I gave her both of my naked and famous denims so she can do her magic. After a couple days, she returned my naked and famous denims whose fit became exactly like that of the APC petit standard. The edges were of course intact, and she had only opened the inner inseam to fix my jeans. They fit me so nice and slim now that I can't be any more happy with the result. (Of course she didn't use cross stitching since she doesnt own the machine for that, but still, the jeans look like they were factory-made to fit and look this way.) (But remember, you can't bring like a baggy straight fit jean and ask her to taper down to make it a skinny fit if you're talking about selvedge denim right now. Because she's only allowed to open the inner inseam only so as to not ruin the edge (which is the signature of selvedge denim), there's only so much fabric she can cut off in order to make the taper happen. But if you're bringing it down from like a slim fit to a what's considered a skinny fit, then it is possible. If you want to see the extent of reduction possible, look at the measurement charts of each of the naked and famous denim I posted and compare them to that of the APC petit standard's measurements. She said that's as far as she can do.) Hemming= $5 Tapering= $18 (For any pair of pants, tapering went up to 18 now because some people insist on second tapering job in order to satisfy their taste to have an even narrower cut for whatever pair of pants they had handed over to her. So instead of charging multiple times, she made it so that 18 dollar is all you pay even if you ask her taper it a little more even after the first try.) But I don't think you can get a pair of selvedge denim tapered at such an affordable price with quality finish. You will seriously receive your jeans back with a whole new slimmer, slick look(if that's what you're into!), with the edge fully intact there. I give all my pants ONLY to this lady cause she will really alter the pants to look good on your legs. My mom gives her all my dad's suits, jackets, pants, shirts, dresses etc as well. The guy who works there (Carlos) is such a friendly and helpful guy too. He's an assistant who puts the pins in along the length of your pants as the lady inspects him doing it, and he is the most exuberant, friendly worker that you will ever run into. He's meticulous, careful, funny, and he's also a good listener and gives good feedback. Trust me, these are the most skilled and friendly people you will run into who can really do the job well with a great customer service mind. So I read all of your reviews, and I inferred that if you are Korean, you will receive better customer service. I am Korean, so I decided to use that to my advantage. Did it work? Nope! (I guess that's what I get for trying to use my ethnicity to my advantage...shame on me lol) Anyways, I met an employee there named "Carlos" and he was very helpful! Very communicative and provided excellent customer service. I dropped off three of my designer jeans, and they did a regular hem on one of them for $5 bucks and an original hem on the other two for $13. They finished in a timely manner, and I had no complaints in regards to their workmanship. The only complaint I have is when I went back, Carlos was not there and there was an older gentlemen and he had terrible customer service. I would ask him something and in the most equivocal tone he would say "okay". I didn't know whether he was being sarcastic or if he didn't understand a word I was saying. The only words that came out of his mouth when I went to pick up my jeans were: "Ticket?" "Okay" "Cash Check only". Not even "Hello" or "Goodbye". Again, I went here to get my jeans altered and not to converse, so for their workmanship and price they get 4 stars. Since I am short I need everything tailored and this is the place I go. I trust them with all my alterations. I have so much faith that I just walk in tell them my inseam and know they will get it right. They are also real quick. If needed they can have things done the next day, but it is normally done in 2-3 days. I one time gave them a pair of pants to alter. When I took it home and tried it on I was not satisfied with the length, needed them shorter. So I took the pants back and gave it to them saying it needed to be shorter and they made it shorter at no extra charge. I really wanted to like this place. I really did. Because it's located so close to my house, I wanted this place to be my go-to tailor. Unfortunately, I had a horrible first hand experience with this place WITHOUT reading any of the recent Yelp reviews. I will never do that again!! For my first visit, I dropped off a pair of slacks that I wanted hemmed. Straight-forward. A young Korean-American girl marked my pants while I tried them on with the heels that I would wear them with. I picked them up on the date that was quoted to me, but I noticed that the pants were not pressed. Ok. About a month later, I wore these slacks to a nice outing with the shoes that I had tried them on with. They dragged on the floor and looked like I was wearing some hand-me-downs. Ugh!!! Ok, maybe she just measured them incorrectly. On my second visit, I took these slacks back and thankfully, they didn't charge me for a re-do. I also had a pair of jeans that I tried to do the original hem on at home. I didn't really like how they turned out because my sewing machine is not heavy duty enough to neatly go over the thick side seams of jeans. All they had to do was re-sew the hems. The third pair of pants were a pair of Paige jeans that I bought for a pretty penny at Nordstrom's years ago. After I bought them, I took them to a place where "original hems" was their specialty. Over the years, I wore them less and less because I had to wear them with a heel. So, I wanted these jeans to be shortened to wear on a daily basis. I tried on ALL of the pants before I had them altered with the catty Korean lady that is mentioned in the recent Yelp reviews. She wasn't warm and fuzzy, but attended to me like she knew what she was doing. I picked up my pants on the date that they had promised, BUT...My slacks were hemmed too short. I can only wear these with flats. Ugh!!! The second pair of jeans were only re-done on one side. The other side was exactly how I had sewed them. SIGH!! The last pair of jeans were a HOT MESS!!!! I know that some people take short cuts with doing "original hems" by folding the pant leg over the hem and then stitching a line just above the hem. This is a SLOPPY short cut and it looks BAD!!!! I was leary that they might do this, but thought that they'd get what I meant by "original hem" by the jeans that I had first done at home!! LESSON: The proper way to do "original hem" is to cut the pants to a desired length and them to re-attach the hem. But FIRST, you gotta take out the seam of the hem and re-sew it. Most times, the width of the hem is smaller as you move up the pant leg, so you gotta cut the excess on the sides to match the opening of the pant. Sorry, hope this makes sense. The point is, I know how original hems should be done and this is NOT it!!! Also!!!! One side of the "altered" jeans was longer than the other. How does this happen??? My legs are NOT different lengths!! Further!!! The openings of the pant legs were larger than they should be!!! Basically, they had pressed the ends so that they stretched to match the orginal hem. Really??? You need to cut the excess on the side to match the actual size of the pant leg!! Although I wasn't completely satisfied with the first 2 pair of pants, I let it go. However, the third pair of pants were ALL wrong and I think that I had paid $12-15. I was going to give them a THIRD chance to make ammends. I called the "alterations" place and spoke to a Korean lady over the phone. It was not the same lady who took my pants in. She said to bring the jeans in and that they would fix them. I explained to the lady why I was unsatisfied and EXACTLY what she would need to do to fix them. She had all sorts of explanations for everything I pointed out. When I finally asked her how she could explain the gross mistake in pant lengths, she says, "well, that's our mistake". Ok, thank you!! When I told her that the jeans just didn't feel right and that I wasn't happy, she took a piece of masking tape, placed it on the pant leg, and writes in Korean "to make her happy", I was just livid!! Livid!!! Since they made the pant legs wider than they should be, I asked her to taper them. She said that she couldn't do it and that the legs would be twisted. For a quick second, she offered to give me my money back. Why bother with this place again?? I had to cut my losses and take the money. PS. I don't know what happened to Carlos, but he seems to be the "magic" in this place. The magic is gone, cuz I didn't see a Carlos in the back area. :/ PSS. My friend Diana Q. turned me onto this place. Awesome place to take your simple alterations to. I've had them do two pairs of designer jeans here and they only charge about $15 for an original hem. The previous place I took my jeans to charged $34 for original hems. A few weeks ago, I had a pair of trousers fixed for $4. I had also brought in a blouse that needed new buttons and that was $14. I thought that the blouse was pricey but she was replacing 11 buttons and it was better than tossing it out; she was able to salvage it with new buttons. I only docked some stars because when I came to pick up the pants and the blouse, only the pants were ready. The blouse was ready the next day. I should have just waited an extra day, but they should be more time conscious. If it's supposed to be ready on a certain day at a certain time, then it should be. 3.5 stars read more

This was my go to spot to get all my alterations done. The place is nearby my home and the prices were very reasonable. I believe the store has changed ownership and the previous owner and their son/employee Karlos is no longer there. His service was impeccable. No matter how busy they were, he would always stop to greet you, apologize for the wait and try to attend to your needs as soon as he could. I haven't had a need to come in for any alterations for a few months until this last Saturday. I noticed that Karlos and the elderly husband and wife was not present, to replace them this younger korean lady. I asked the lady if there was a change in ownership and she said no. So I asked what happened to Karlos? She claimed he quit months ago and has never seen him. I wasn't really sold on her story that there was no change in ownership. Today, as I went back to pick up my pants. There was another customer in the shop getting measured. The same lady was there by herself. She didn't bother to greet or acknowledge me until probably 5 minutes later until after she was done conversing with the customer. As I approached the counter to pay and give her my money. She took my money, put in the drawer, while still conversing with the other customer and almost forgot to give me back my change. This entire time not providing me with any acknowledgement or service. I picked up my pants and walked out without even a Thank you or Goodbye. Great Tailors That Are Fast and Inexpensive These folks are the best in Irvine if you want fast, great tailoring at very modest prices. They hemmed my jeans for $5 and altered the sleeves on my sport coat for $20. Because I needed it quickly for a trip, they got it done in 24 hours. They are friendly and polite. I've since brought other garments to them for tailoring with the same satisfactory results. They don't have a computer to track everything, but seem to know how to find it. Their prices are excellent. I take all my jeans and slacks to her for alterations. They're able to get the alterations done in no time. Depending on the hem, it ranges from 5-10 dollars. Original hem is very affordable ($10-12) considering it might cost $25 at another place in Irvine. Yes, I agree with other Yelpers in that you do receive better treatment if you're Korean. I'm not Korean, but the service I have received wasn't bad. It's just neutral. I brought my wedding dress here for an estimate and depending on the material, complexity of the dress, layers, it'll cost more. I believe the quote I received was $160 to bring the dress one size smaller and to make the dress shorter. The quote is relatively inexpensive compared to other places, but it also didn't seem like they were 100% confident on their wedding dress skills. I'll continue to only bring pants here. read more

I found this place when I was still living in Irvine. Thanks to my genes, the "short" pants at most retail stores still drag on the floor when I walk. This was the cheapest alteration specialist I could find in the area. I was pretty pleased with the results and the staff was always very friendly. When I moved away, I thought that the hems would be a lot cheaper where I live now. I was still getting quotes around $5, so I figured I'd just stick with the tailor here because I don't like trying new places. They continue to do a great job with a quick turn-around. LOVE THIS PLACE!!! I found this placed based on their Yelp reviews. It's a little far from my apartment but I'm pretty picky about alterations so I figured I'd give them a try. It was SO worth the drive! I walked in with 5 pairs of pants: two dress pants I needed the waists taken in on, as well as the inseams; two pairs of jeans that had HUGE rips in the butt that I was hoping could be salvaged, and one pair of jeans that needed to be hemmed. The woman pinned the dress pants exactly how I wanted (she would pinch the fabric and ask me if that's how I'd want them before pinning it). She was SO sweet. And I was back out the door in 15 minutes tops (I went on a Friday around 11am). All 5 were ready for pick up by Tuesday, and the whole package was only $78!! My jeans with the rips look AMAZING, I didn't think it was possible to fix them and you can hardly even see the stitching. My dress pants fit perfectly, and my jeans are the perfect length. I was a little hesitant get my jeans hemmed because they were my first pair of designer jeans. My boyfriend looked this place up and got his designer jeans hemmed and they did a really great job on the original hem. After that, I brought a pair in for a regular hem and I couldn't even tell they hemmed it. They did such an amazing job, so I brought a couple more pairs in. The price is very reasonable, too!! I have now realized even more how good of a job Alteration Specialist has done, because I just got two pairs of jeans hemmed by another place in Alhambra (since I'm not in Irvine anymore) and they did such a horrible job- the lines were crooked and they broke my zipper when the zipper was perfect and brand new when I brought it in. I had 3 pairs of pants hemmed - 2 jeans & 1 pair of my boyfriend's work slacks. They did an awesome job at such a good price. 1 pair of the jeans I got original hem which was only $14. I was a little hesitant as they were pretty detailed wide legged jeans & it was my first time there. I couldn't have asked for a better job. The other pair of jeans & my boyfriend's slacks were only $5 each and just as good! Oh- and I'm NOT Korean and I thought the service was fine. They have been here many, many, years. They know their stuff. The owners genuinely care about their customers. I have had them replace buttons, fix broken zippers, adjust waists, cuffs, patch holes, and reinforce worn backpack straps. I have brought about 100 items into this place over the years so I can report accurate statistics without extrapolating. I would say about 95% on-time completion. Turn around is usually on schedule except during prom season when all the girls are coming to get their dresses altered on top of the regular volume. Prices are reasonable and vary with complexity of the alteration job. They will often give a risk assessment if the job is challenging. One odd item I had them do (re-position the sewn-on Velcro on a travel wallet) did not come out as expected, but to their credit they advised me they were not sure they could do it and gave me perplexed looks when I told them to try anyway. Use common sense when planning alterations and realize the risks involved in the first place. Some potential transformations are not as "easy" as others. For example, sewing a button on is a lot easier, cheaper, and less risky than doing multiple alterations on a flared dress made out of mesh. They are tailors, not magicians. read more

What a surprise! Only one of the jeans was supposed to be ready on Friday - and the rest on Sat. They were ALL ready when I got there. But I kind of regret that I didnt choose to get the original hem. :( I should have on 2 of the 4 jeans. But they look good. Just me missing that part. LOL Will come back! read more

Honestly, I was a bit skeptical when they quoted me prices that are way cheaper than everywhere else. I had a lot of blazers fully redone [sleeves shortened and made more narrow, sides brought] and a lot of shirts made trimmer at the sides. After more than a dozen jackets and shirts each, they only ever got something wrong once -- they made a jacket too tight, but they opened it up and worked miracles to loosen it back to where i needed, free of charge. The only time a seam came loose in the past 2 years I've been going to them, they patched that up, free of charge, too. Carlos is just about the friendliest associate I've ever met, their turnaround is quick, the quality is great, and the prices are unbelievable. What else do I have to say? read more

I like this place. Although, I agree with other yelpers when they say that the couple running this place are a little racist. But what do you expect. That strip mall is a mini asia in itself. It doesn't bother me. I don't need to be friends with my tailor. They get the job done right and that's what matters. I got a jacket altered. They charged me $25. Omg, where do I begin. My daughter had a ballet recital and her dress was torn very badly 1 day before the recital. I rushed her dress here based on the schools recommendation. At first they were a little unsure if the dress could be repaired but said they could try to help. Long story short, they repaired the dress like new and it was even ready hours before the initial time. They truly are specialists at what they do here. I've been here 7 or 8 times now and let me tell you what, WOW!! I can't take my clothes to any other tailoring shop! After the 3rd time coming in, I don't even need to tell karlos how I want anything as he already knows. He remembers me and greets me by name, pins up all my jackets/blazers/pants just how I had them envisioned in my head, and sends me on my way after some great conversation. Amazing! I've been measured by other workers but now I'll only go to Karlos and, in fact, have left the shop when I saw that he wasn't working. I've had a few things that I needed to take back a second time but there haven't been many items that disappointed me. Their turnaround time is quite fast. 5 stars. read more
