I dropped my Indian Guide vests for my son and I on Monday and they said would be ready on Thursday afternoon just before Memorial weekend . I had to go out of town and figured I could pick up on Tuesday after Memorial Day. I go there on Tuesday and they are closed with a small sign stating they are closed until the following Monday for Memorial Holiday. This should have been told to me when dropping my items off as I was able to use the vests that were to be used for that weekend. They were very expensive by the way to sew on patches for 55.00. When I picked the items up, the person had an attitude and didn't even care. She was very rude and I don't recommend this place. They also only take cash. read more

My dilemna was should I take it my dry cleaner in Lake Forest or try out an alterations place I had never been to nearby. I was busy with work, lazy, and the dry cleaner was out of the way. That girl was not nice from the first time. Never friendly. I took pants one time to get shortened and sweaters another time and the price was average. Then I took 3 scarves to get shortened which are much easier and she charged me $8/ scarf!!! I bought the scarf for $10 and she wants to charge $24 for the 3 to get them shortened ! I told her that's too much and not reasonable and more expensive than the other stuff. It's actually much easier !She repeated that was the price in a rude way. So That's it, no more going there. They have altered my dance dresses to my jeans and it has always come out better than I expect it to without making a huge dent in my wallet. I've been taking my stuff here for over 5 years. My parents have come here for over 10 years! I'm short, so I always have to have my pants, shirts, suits, sweaters, etc. cut to fit me. It doesn't matter if it is waist adjustment, sleeve length, pant length, etc. It can be fixed! The results are always fascinating! Also, the reason why I don't have any bad experiences here yet like some other people below is because I always pre plan and fold my clothes. It did not take a long time to be finished, but I had to come back in another time because my work ended at 6 (business hour ends at 6 :/ ). The cut was nice and sewing was great! I had terrible experiences at this shop! I started to go to this alteration shop because of the low price. However, I soon realized why it is cheap: 1. They don't finish work in time as they promised. It happened to me several times. Despite the fact that it was entirely their fault not being able to meet the deadline and my alteration request was simple enough to be done in 5-10 minuets, they asked me to come back to pick it up a few days later. Obviously they don't seem to realize that they were wasting my time! 2. Awful craftsmanship I can't describe enough about the quality of their work. Their job was often cursory and careless with mistakes. I, as a lay person, feel that I could do a much better job. 3. When I called them, they told me the price. However, when I actually got there, they asked for a higher price. 4. Swear words to a customer One day, their alteration was so awful. They stitched only a half of what they were supposed to do, and left the other half undone. When I told the male owner that the job looked incomplete, he got mad about my expression "the job looks incomplete" and started to yell at me like "you are such a jinsang (in Korean) - this means "you're a real piece of work (as*hole)" (in English) - never come back to my store." Then he was still upset, continued to use bad words to me, but never apologized. Instead, his wife came out, apologized to me, and tried to resolve the situation. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SELVEDGE DENIM ALTERATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've had about over 18+ pairs of all my chinos& dress pants& jeans & SELVEDGE denims over the years from the owner lady here. All my pants have a great fit (i like to wear things slim) because of her amazing job. She studied design in her younger years, so she has the eye for it and she knows what she's doing. Out of all the pants that she's fixed for me, I want to make a special note for selvedge denim alteration that she took care of for me recently. It's not common to find a place in OC trustworthy enough for you to hand them your selvedge denim to be tailored, especially if what you're trying to get is a TAPERing WITHOUT RUINING THE EDGE ( edge: the red/white tape that runs along the length of the selvedge denim http://www.rawrdenim.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/selvedge-denim-jeans.gif ). If you check out other tailors in OC, they charge up to 20 for hemming and 50 for tapering(well, 50 if it involves chain stitching --but this is not too necessary if you're going to taper the denim for a narrower fit unless you do want the rope effect at the end of your jeans after hemming) But I've already had 2 pairs of my Naked and Famous denim tapered and hemmed by this lady, and I can't be any more pleased and relieved to have my denim tapered by her. If you're like me and you own a pair of selvedge denim that is a little bit baggy for your taste, you might be wondering if you should give this away or wear it as ugly as it is. But the lady here understands that she's only allowed to split open the inside inseam and she knows how to work around it to give you the taper you want without ruining the edge. Just to be more specific with the work that she did, I'm going to show what she was able to do. (The measurements for size 30 is also listed in this link here : http://www.contextclothing.com/item.php?id=665 ) I showed the lady what I wanted and I gave her both of my naked and famous denims so she can do her magic. After a couple days, she returned my naked and famous denims whose fit became exactly like that of the APC petit standard. The edges were of course intact, and she had only opened the inner inseam to fix my jeans. They fit me so nice and slim now that I can't be any more happy with the result. (Of course she didn't use cross stitching since she doesnt own the machine for that, but still, the jeans look like they were factory-made to fit and look this way.) (But remember, you can't bring like a baggy straight fit jean and ask her to taper down to make it a skinny fit if you're talking about selvedge denim right now. Because she's only allowed to open the inner inseam only so as to not ruin the edge (which is the signature of selvedge denim), there's only so much fabric she can cut off in order to make the taper happen. But if you're bringing it down from like a slim fit to a what's considered a skinny fit, then it is possible. If you want to see the extent of reduction possible, look at the measurement charts of each of the naked and famous denim I posted and compare them to that of the APC petit standard's measurements. She said that's as far as she can do.) Hemming= $5 Tapering= $18 (For any pair of pants, tapering went up to 18 now because some people insist on second tapering job in order to satisfy their taste to have an even narrower cut for whatever pair of pants they had handed over to her. So instead of charging multiple times, she made it so that 18 dollar is all you pay even if you ask her taper it a little more even after the first try.) But I don't think you can get a pair of selvedge denim tapered at such an affordable price with quality finish. You will seriously receive your jeans back with a whole new slimmer, slick look(if that's what you're into!), with the edge fully intact there. I give all my pants ONLY to this lady cause she will really alter the pants to look good on your legs. My mom gives her all my dad's suits, jackets, pants, shirts, dresses etc as well. The guy who works there (Carlos) is such a friendly and helpful guy too. He's an assistant who puts the pins in along the length of your pants as the lady inspects him doing it, and he is the most exuberant, friendly worker that you will ever run into. He's meticulous, careful, funny, and he's also a good listener and gives good feedback. Trust me, these are the most skilled and friendly people you will run into who can really do the job well with a great customer service mind. Yes, their pricing is cheap, but the customer service is the worst! The Korean lady was helping a customer with her dress as I waited next, then a guy came in and she immediately helped him first. I was pretty pissed! I didn't say anything because I didn't think it was worth it. The guy who came in happened to be Korean too and drove a 7-series BMW. She just made me feel like a less important customer. I'm not Korean, but that shouldn't matter...wait your f*&#in turn. I'm never going there again, I don't care how cheap they are! Be careful what you bring here! I have had some other things altered however brought a dress here that I needed for a wedding and the girl who marked it was not the women who altered it. I specially stated only the top part of the dress needed to be taken in due to me being more hippy and narrower on top. Well came back and couldn't even get the dress on! It was a multiple layer dress and even after they let it back out it just didn't lay right! Only good thing was she refunded me money but still couldn't wear the dress. I went here after looking all over yelp for a decent alterations place. I brought a dress to be taken in at straps and a pair of slacks to be hemmed. I'm not sure what happened but the end product that I got was terrible. Do not go here if you are looking for an actual seamstress or alteration specialist to give you advice on how you should fix your items or measure you in any way. The young man at the front desk will simply mark where you say you want the pant hemmed or other item taken in with some white chalk. When I got my clothes back the straps on my dress were taken in too much and so the arm holes were almost too small and the pant hems were uneven lengths! I mean the front of the pant leg was shorter than the back of the pant leg (how does that happen?!) and then each leg was a different length. I ended up taking the hem off at home and taking the pants to Make It Fit in the Tustin Marketplace. The dress I took to Roberts Alterations in Costa Mesa. So it was a total waste of time and money. Also, they don't take credit or debit card - cash only - so I also wasted the $3.00 ATM fee at the Chase ATM across the street from their location. read more

And the female owner, who calls herself "designer"; and yet can't even do simple alterations . This is my go to alteration place. $5 for pants hems and $10 for dresses. It's a small mom & pop place owned by a Korean couple who are friendly. Carlos sometimes works the front and he is so sweet! Items are usually ready in 2-3 days, but you can request next day if you need it. They have changing rooms and they sometimes also sell cute clothes on a rack in front of the store. Try not to go on Fridays or the Saturdays, cuz they get really busy. Closed on Sundays. Cash and check only. read more

Ugh...I brought a blouse in for what I thought was a simple repair of a small torn v-neck collar on a silk top and it was completely ruined! The tear was just pinched together and sewn back and forth all crooked everywhere and in white thread when the blouse was a magenta color!!! They charged me $4 but it cost me my $185 Diane vonFurstenberg blouse!!! OmG...I'm not a professional but I could have and should have just done it myself and not mess up!!! This is the last time I take my clothes to this business. Last week I took in 4 pairs of pants; 3 hems and a zipper fix. Got my 3 hems back (too short btw) but my 4th pair with the broken zipper is lost. Ummm...how do you lose clothes and expect to continue to do business?? During my second visit to try to pick up the jeans, the owner told me she would call me the next day. Never called. Still no jeans. Just called and talked with one of the employees. She informed me that the owner is out of town until Tuesday and she has no idea what I'm talking about. I'm beyond frustrated. I left my info again but I highly doubt I will receive a call back. For the past couple of years I've been driving down to Westminster, Garden Grove, and the Bolsa area to get my jeans hemmed/altered. My friend recommended this place to me and so far it's been perfect. Hems only cost 5$ and the turn around time is just one day. Ever since Carlos left, this place has just gotten worse on each progressive visit. I was given a ticket to pick up my clothes on Thursday after dropping it off Wednesday morning, so naturally I expected it to be ready on Thursday morning. I went over in the morning and the Korean lady that works there just said that I was too early... Why didn't you specify a time on the receipt instead of expecting me to just come in end of day on Thursday? On a separate occasion I had them tailor a shirt for me, only to find that the shirt was tailored too tight in the back, so now the shirt keeps bwing pulled out after being tucked in. Based on the many positive reviews, I came here to get my jeans hemmed. A simple hem. When I picked up my jeans on the promised day, one pant leg was sewn crooked. When I addressed the obvious, the guy attempted to steam out the crooked-sew job by pulling on the fabric to straighten the crooked hem instead of having a tailor undo the hem and re-sew it properly. I didn't even bother addressing why that wasn't going to solve the problem. I knew I wasn't returning. They were given a chance to correct the poor job they did but temporarily fix it. Once the jeans dried from steaming, the crooked hem returned. And I never returned to Alteration Specialist. read more
