Excellent cabanas, great distancing, pup friendly

In love, plan to be a regular. Black owned, family owned. Met the fam and they were all incredibly sweet and personable. Lots of large cabanas for large groups that were all spaced well. Live music in the back section. Pup friendly, just careful of the vineyard area filled with burrs and thorns. Due to covid complications, no tastings, bottles only. The Santa Barbera was delicious. See you guys soon!

Great experience! Unique environment with lots of plants and a beautiful outdoor space. We are looking forward to our next visit! Oh yes and the wine simply impeccable!!

Black owned winery for Black American History Month. They provide an excellent selection of wines. Tanisha provides an excellent history of the vineyard. Perfect for celebrations. Here for Commander McDaniels installation celebration. Nice jazz music gives this winery the ultimate ambience. The tasting room is magnificent. Sparkling wines were amazing. They offer charcuterie boards also. I'm definitely coming back for all the magic this winery exudes. Cheers

I had an amazing time at Altipiano yesterday afternoon. The setting is so beautiful and peaceful, just what I needed after a long week. This is the type of place you come to soak in the ambiance and leisurely sip their delicious wines. If you are looking for the fast paced, super technical service that most wineries in the area provide, this isn't it. This is legitimately a family run operation and they invite you into their home. They know their wines but they also know the region. We listened to intimate stories about the history of San Diego from Peter, the family historian. His ability to paint imagery of days past paired perfectly with the devine red wine blend we sipped. It was such a lovely and cozy experience, I will find any excuse to return! *edited to fix autocorrect grammar issues

This winery has the best hospitality I've ever experienced. It is family owned and run, which is something I always try to support. We were seated in an amazing area overlooking the vineyard and it made for a very peaceful day. The view was spectacular and we had a group of seven, so that was nice. There was live music that day as well. We were quickly greeted by the owners daughter who really made the day for us. She was kind, funny and knew her wines so it helped a lot during the tasting experience. They had mostly red wines, which were all quite tasty. The Estate Barbera was probably my favorite. If you want to make a day of wine tasting and don't feel like driving all the way up to Temecula, this is a great place!

What a great winery, delicious wine and beautiful owners. They were very accommodating to my wife and our pup! we called to see if we need reservations and with the covid restrictions it is best for reservations, even though they were booked they allowed us to come and stay for a while. the chairs and tables are spaced out perfectly. The whole winery is a vibe. we were wanting to do a tasting , but now with covid restrictions they are just offering bottles or cases, not a problem because we enjoyed every sip of the wine and we enjoyed our time there!

While wine tasting in Escondido Altipiano Winery was reccomended to us to try. We were really impressed with the patio and so many places to sit. The back yard if you will offer a fantastic view of vines and rolling hills. The tasting room is small but apprapro for the crowd. But with six seats if would fill up quick. Lisa was our server and was very nice. We tasted six wines that were a good representative of the area. The wines I wanted to taste...sangiovese and syrah were not available to taste only buy. Parking lot is as small as the tasting room. About 10 spaces at best. And getting in and put can be tricky if meeting other cars. Nice bathrooms, very elegant with large ovetsized paper towels for you. Definitely Jen G approved. I could see coming back here and enjoying a glass of wine on the patio or back yard.

We decided to go check out this winery. A little girls outing on a Saturday afternoon. It's a really cute place. The daughter provides great customer service thank you Tonisha . They also offer Airbnb rooms and was given a tour of the rooms I think 4 rooms in total. The rooms are really nice. The ladies enjoyed the wine & bought bottles to take home.

NOTE: they close at sunset, not at 6 which google and yelp cites. So... I've been really trying to come here. I contacted the owners about a potential team building activity for my team a couple months ago and though we ended up going a different route with our activity, I always remembered the kindness and willingness to work with our group size.. that the owners who corresponded with me had. Today I was in the Escondido area and wanted to do 2 wineries. We did Orfila first, and wanted to end the day on a high note and end with Altipiano based on the great reviews and my personal contact with them. However, they were closed before the posted time. The sign in the off road that leads to their winery states they close at 'sunset', not at 6. So today they closed an hour before the posted closing time which means I'll have to come back another time!

Ask the Community - Altipiano Vineyard & Winery

Are reservations required and what is the tasting fee?

Reservations are not required, but recommended, especially if your party is more than 4. We do not have wine tasting as such. We provide a flight of three 3 oz wines (one white and two reds) for $35.00. Open Saturday and Sunday Noon to 6 PM.

    Is this winery family/kid friendly?

Current open Saturdays and Sundays Noon to 6PM, 21 and older only.

Why aren't dogs allowed on the main patio area? We love Altipiano's wine and atmosphere, but the only reason we don't go is because we can't enjoy the best atmosphere with our Cavalier Spaniel. The neighboring wineries are all more pooch friendly.

I've wondered the same thing. We don't go for the same reason. Doesn't make sense to me. What's the difference if they are leashed on one side of the patio or the other?

    Are dogs allowed?

Yes, dogs are allowed on a leach in a special seating area. We try to get the dog dish to you before we bring you your wine.

I got here at 7:15 pm with the intention of leaving at 8:00 pm as I understand that's their closing time. Server told us they closed at 8pm, but patrons could stay up to 8:30pm. She stated she doesn't understand why "sunset is advertised online" when they are closed during summer sunset time. She seemed a bit annoyed at us, which I understood as closing time was happening soon. We left before other patrons did, prior to 8:30pm. I had no issue with that, my issue was with the way she spoke to my partner. As we were closing out she said we could not get a new glass, but could get topped off. My boyfriend asked if she could top off his glass, and she said something along the lines of "look at you using a new vocab word, you were paying attention to what I said". I'm not one who gets offended easily, but that comment came across as patronizing to me. Perhaps that wasn't her intention, but it was how it was perceived. Such a shame. I'd love to continue coming back, I just hope future interactions are more welcoming.

There are two parking lots that we saw, one closer to the bottom which was gravel but would require a walk up two flights of stairs, or there's a lot closer to the tasting room (paved) but is more limited. We were able to snag a spot up at the top luckily. They have a two sample limit & then you can buy drinks by the bottle or glass. The day we went they were having a 25% off bottle sale. There was only one employee we saw during the entirety of our visit but he was super friendly. We ordered a bottle, the charcuterie platter and a pizza. The charcuterie board is refrigerated and they provide a bag of crackers as well. We went with the veggie pizza & it took maybe 20 minutes to come out and was absolutely delicious. The grounds themselves are absolutely gorgeous. There are 3 covered areas to sit at up top with plenty of seating. Down the first flight of stairs has a fish pond and some beautiful areas to walk around. I'm not sure if that area was where they do weddings as there was also a spot across the way with a dais, but we didn't make it over there. The wine was delicious! We tried two of the whites and the sweet rosé. I'm not normally a rosé fan, but it was my favorite wine I had there. Overall we had a really relaxing time with beautiful views. We added a large bag of Stellar Pretzel to share, and for dessert (because I absolutely have a sweet tooth), we tried the Sunshine Double Chocolate Cake and Tiramisu. I prefer sweeter wines and ordered the Rosa and Riesling , both were great and exactly what I was hoping for. A couple things to note: I had read in other reviews that there were servers, but when we visited, we ordered inside, were given a buzzer, and picked up our food ourselves. It was also pretty cold outside, and it took some time for the staff to turn on the warmers. We came on a Sunday and learned that live music starts at 3 PM. My husband and I definitely plan to come back for a date when there's live music playing. We were able to park near the top by the tasting room, which was convenient. There's also seating below near a beautiful waterfall and koi pond , it's a bit of a walk down (and back up). Overall, such a scenic spot with good food, sweet wine options, and a relaxing atmosphere. We'll be back!

Service (4.5/5): We ordered a bottle of wine about 10 minutes before close. One of the owners was nice enough to allow us to stay outside on the patio way past closing time. He said we could stay as long as we wanted. That's the type of service you rarely see at drinking holes these days.
