Hey! For my fellow vegetarians, the veggie option for the Monday special is a really bad kale salad. Like, I love kale, but it needs to be done well. This kale wasn't cut up at all, not massaged to be softer, not a flavourful dressing, no grains to make it more filling, and to top it off, it was different and more expensive then their usual kale salad ($10 for the Monday "special" versus $7 for the regular). The beer bread is delicious, and the beer is great. They do have a lot of vegan/veg options on their full menu, but they only have the special on Monday and not the full menu. Needless to say, pretty disappointed. I'd probably come back another time to try the regular options and maybe get a flight, but never for the Monday special. read more

Went in for beer, will be back for food. We went in a little "early" on a Friday night (around 9 pm which is my usual bed time). Small sitting area and bar downstairs. Did not venture upstairs. Beers were delicious compared to some other breweries in the area. We had wanted to try the cheese curds, but the waitress forgot to put the order in and by the time we asked her about it, the kitchen was closed. She was really apologetic and covered a round of drinks for us. By the time we left, it was getting pretty crowded so seems like a younger hip crowd, which is our cue to leave. so I went during the summer and left wanting and expecting more. They didn't have alot of the beers on the menu and the beer was just not good to me. Then I went back late September, and my whole perception changed. I guess they changed brewers and seriously those are among the best Sours I've had! I came here last night before exploring First Fridays in Pilsen; while I recommend going to First Fridays, I'm hesitant to recommend Alulu. The vibe of the place is cool, and I imagine it's even better in the summer when the patio is open. The beer was good, though they were out of two of their approximately 10 offerings. The food was where Alulu fell flat; they were out of the item I had wanted, so I changed my order to the beer brined chicken, potatoes and green beans. What came to the table was about half a chicken (mostly bone, and with veins that bled when I cut into them), five small potatoes, and a couple of green beans. I am normally part of the "clean plate club" and only just picked at this. It also took us nearly an hour and a half to get our order in and our check, and the restaurant did not seem overly busy. TLDR: If you're looking for a couple beers in a chill atmosphere, Alulu could be worth a shot, but my friends and I were unimpressed with the food and service. read more

My fiancé and I came in here on the Saturday before Christmas, so it was pretty empty. However, the employees who were here took great care of us, even giving us an extra pour on our flight when we couldn't decide which beers to try. We ended up trying about ten of their beers, and I liked the Nui Ka Ua best. The space is small but well-decorated and comfortable. We didn't eat anything, but the menu and large and looked pretty tempting. I would definitely return! read more

This place has good vibes. You walk in and the bar isn't huge but isn't too small... Great artwork all around the bar and the bar itself has a nice touch and finish to its design. The bartenders and waitresses were very friendly and explained the inner workings of the menu items I requested... I appreciate stuff like that. I had the Alulu Pork Cutlet which was brand new on the menu and one of those unique dishes with ingredients you're sure not to find anywhere else. It was FIRE... So savory. All in all, I liked this place a lot from the bar itself, to the people and staff, and of course, the food and brew. I'll make an effort to come back. read more

Really cool aesthetic... The location is pretty off the beaten path which is nice for finding free parking. Been here after dinner for drinks twice, the dinner menu looks good but really expensive. The cocktails range from $12-$14 and beers more reasonable at about $7. I LOVE their option of a radler/shandy ($8) where you can mix any one of their craft beers with a house made pop. Perfect choice for someone who can never decide between whether or not they want a whole beer. The downstairs is tiny but they have space upstairs as well. read more

I love this brewery. This is probably the third time I've been here. They recently built a ton of tables outside. You must try the grey waves and the strawberry peppercorn beer. Love love love them. I'm hoping this place can get the kinks worked out and shine on! I know they're new, and my first few visits were just after opening, so I'm hoping to come back and change this start to a higher rating. However, I do have to share my experiences. First of all, the service was really slow. Though the servers are super friendly, it took a really long time to get a beer or a cocktail... and unfortunately, the food took long too. It was sort of busy, but not too crazy there. We had one larger party behind us. We ordered a few appetizers and by the time they came, we were sort of over the wait. Now, onto the good stuff - the decor and the location is KEY. We live just down the block and would love to frequent here more often if things can get a little more smooth. Love the garage door opening windows for beautiful days in the summer. We did have a better experience time 2 when we went right at opening. Once the drinks came, they were delicious! Beer is legit, super yummy. Groovy interior with local art, wood seating and very hipster vibe. House-vodka Gimlet was super tasty and prepared well (shaken over ice with fresh lime and zest). Service was great too. I will come back just for drinking. The food was good, but nothing to write home about. Better than average bar fare. Would have loved to try the Bahn Mi sandwich that I see in other pics, but wasn't available when I was there. Had the Cubano, which was good and the fries are tasty. BF had the Monte Cristo which was very sweet - not my fave. Unfortunately, skip the "apple crisp" dessert, too. Little known fact: Lulu was actually a greeting used in the early 1700s by settlers traveling through the Smokey Mountains carrying precious metals and furs. The leader, "Al" as he was known to most, used to brew his own beer and share it with the travelers for sustenance. He called it "lulu" because his greeting was normally coupled with a handshake and homebrew. But the thankful settlers decided to give it a different name to pay homage to their leader. And thus, "Alulu" was born. This is the story that SHOULD be on the website. And since I couldn't find the real reasoning behind the name, I made one up. You're welcome. While it may not be a homebrew that dates back to the 1700s, Alulu is producing some pretty legendary drinks and bar fare. I went here for a birthday celebration around 4p and the upstairs patio was hopping. I think a majority of the folks there were on a brewery tour so it didn't seem like this was the norm, but it wasn't too bad. The upstairs opens up to the street to provide a patio-like feel, but the seating makes you feel right at home. They've got wood community tables, a fireplace, and a few decks of cards for those times where drinking and talking just isn't enough. The beers were surprisingly good for a fairly new brewery. I'm excited to see how they progress as they continue to establish themselves. We didn't order any of the food, but folks around us did and it looked pretty tasty. From smells alone, I would give it the thumbs up. It's also close to some of the cool kid bars in Pilsen as well, so you can make a whole thing of it if you want. I'll be making a thing of it again. Super chill spot! Glad to have found it! Enjoyed a Granted Fashion (bourbon) and a Astronos Beach II (Rum) and super delicious! Ate the Meat and Cheese platter and got a Roasted Chicken Naan which all was just fantastic. If you want big proportions not the place but just enough to satisfy the appetite. They also have an upstairs where they brew beer and I like how they have an open area and outside patio. read more

We loved it here. I'm surprised this spot doesn't get more recognition. Maybe it does and I've missed it? I guess its a step farther from the Old-Town/LP neighborhoods, but its well worth the ride down to. We went for pre-dinner drinks and snacks.. And I'm already dying to get back here to try more food and drink the beer again. We were immediately greeted by a friendly host, and our waitress made us feel right at home. Its a small place so she was able to be around any minute, or not bug us if she noticed we were fine. She was on point, and just a cool person. Her food recommendations were spot on, and she even brought us some free 4 oz pours just to try a different beer we might like. We had a flight, and a few individual pours. The sours were both awesome, and different. The IPAs I'd say were standard, but for sure good. The blonde ale was great, and so was the marshmallow stout! So many to try, I've gotta get back there soon. Food wise we just had the Pierogies and the Lumpia (meat version). There was also this Kale salad part on the side which I'll just throw in as another dish. And I'm calling it out because I really liked it. But back to the Pierogi/Lumpia - those were both just soo good. Those + beer and I was one happy guy. This place should be high on your radar. I'll be back soon. read more

I attended the soft opening on Sunday, 1 week prior to their official opening on march 30th, 2017. The Alulu endeavor has already been written up in Eater, and I believe the chef has had kitchen experience at Girl and the Goat. The stage is completely set for this place to become a huge success summer 2017. The first thing I noticed was the nice quiet corner they have in Pilsen. There are a few Mexican restaurants nearby, but minimal traffic, and tons of street parking. The gastro pub décor is minimal and modern with re-claimed wood. Most of the customers were neighborhood folk, families, and friends. The menu was stacked with 9 house brewed beers, sodas, egg white cocktails, and solid page of small and large plates. The beer list is for the most part light, bright, and aromatic, with multiple summery offerings perfect for early spring/summer. Pair these beers with plenty of sunlight from their West facing garage door storefront, and you won't want to leave. You can get your beer flight with an aperitif side car. It is so effervescent, washing all taste off your pallet leaving a lemon vapor of cleanliness. Upstairs they have additional seating and another huge door/window and great space for groups. The Perogies on the menu are incredible, and the house made sour cream hits the mark. The mussels were extra tasty, and not to garlicky, and with small size shells, you know they were responsibly sourced. My buddy got the short rib and was raving about not only the tender meat, but the crisp veggies. I enjoyed the perfectly balanced bitter espresso beer as well. Our whole group looks forward to coming back seasonally to sample the changing menu, and new brews. You will definitely be hearing a lot more about this place once more writers and critics test the renowned chef's new endeavor. read more

What an intimate place with great food and a vast selection of beer. Last night was my second visit. To my surprise they dropped a couple new beers since my first visit three weeks ago. A marzen and an imperial stout were the new additions. They got solid 3 + ratings on Untappd. Tropic something or other, the juicy IPA is a winner. I had to have the pierogi again. Followed by the house burger which was really tasty medium rare. I imagine that in no time it will be hard to find space at Alulu. Check it out. read more

Alulu was a cool place. i went on a really hot day and was kind of annoyed by how small and cramped the space is but I'd imagine on a more comfortable day it would have been just fine. The beer was tasty, cocktails were fire. I love the twist with the homemade soda! Next time i go, I'll try the food - it looked tasty but I was far too sweaty to think about eating. They've gotten fully up to speed since my first review. Beer and service have improved, as expected. They also started an excellent happy hours deal from 3:00 - 6:00. In terms of area breweries, I'd put then just a notch below Moody Tongue and WAY ahead of Lo Rez. read more

I really enjoyed our experience here on a Sunday afternoon. For a 3-barrel brewhouse (go upstairs to see the actual set), 11 beers on tap is amazing. Even better: they had a good variety of different types and tastes of beer. We had some of the perogies, popcorn & nuts, bah mi. All the food was excellent but very expensive for the area. The only dig I have on this place is finding it...we went after work and the GPS routed us to the location...then we walked by it about 2-3 times. There's a sign, and I'm sure when it's hopping it's obvious where it is...but you have to walk down this little alley under the sign we missed. Luckily there were 2-3 people outside drinking beer and we asked them. When we got inside, we were glad we did...great and friendly staff who were more than glad to offer suggestions and tasty offerings and alternatives. The Onagon Fleece was probably my favorite brew, but the Paz Pax II was a close 2nd place. Filipino BBQ Chicken with Rice was fantastic, and glad I went with the suggestion from the server. My buddy had the Chicken Tikka and he was raving about it as well. We also got the Pork belly and cheese curd beer bread not knowing how big it was (basically like a full pizza on its own), but took it home in boxes and had if for lunch the next day...was awesome. Holy cow this place is a hidden gem. I have no clue how this spot isn't more popular. The food here is the kind of food that makes you happy dance after you eat it. The beer bread is a MUST HAVE. We also got the chicken tikka sandwich which was just a delightful blend of spices and flavor. For beer, the sour with black currant and vanilla was the most unique sour I've ever had. The saison and cream ale were also very good. So glad we stumbled across this place. Can't wait to be back during the week for their specials ! read more

Great hidden gem in Pilsen! My hubby and I stopped here for drinks after dining across the street. We were thirsty and still a little hungry and really wanted to check this place out. The service is good. The bartenders were attentive and since we already ate but were still hungry, we opted for 2 orders the fries. They also had other tasty looking items on the chef driven menu but tonight we could only fill up on the frites. The bar is nice and cozy and has a cool neighborhood vibe. The craft beer list is very informative so it makes choosing a beer effortless. We will definitely be back with friends to order some real tasty food! read more

What an amazing place in Pilsen. They make all of their own delicious beer and the food is fantastic! If you're with people who are down with sharing, I'd get here and order one of everything because it's all so good. I can't wait to get back here for a brunch visit. After seeing this place open for a few months we finally decided to pop in for lunch. The place is decorated very nice. The service from the bartender was excellent as he was very knowledgeable about all the beers (and there is AOT). We settled for a flight of 5 beers and 2 smalls plates , chicken wings and perigories. We were VERY suprised to find out our bill was just short of 50 bucks. This place is excellent, and once they work a few kinks out they'll be phenomenal. Really they are a four star place but I am bumping them up here to five because they were on top of EVERYTHING. Beer is phenomenal, world class even. Tiny brewery is pushing out a lot of flavor. Service is super helpful and kind, everyone is really awesome and helping each other out. Food is good but could be excellent. It has a sort of inspired menu but isn't really quite coming through... Yet. They've only been open six months, and they were quick to pass the info on a few little kitchen issues, and so helpful to clear things up. Their poutine was, for those who love Quebec, not really poutine. Thin fries with weak gravy and under flavored pork made for a sort of meh experience but all the ingredients were there!
