I stopped in for lunch yesterday and ordered a lunch side of oxtails with rice and sweet plantains. When I asked how much I owed, the cashier told me $24.00. I was surprised, especially since the food was already pre-made from the steam table. When I questioned the price, she said lunch and dinner are the same, even though I look up at a sign menu which clearly lists small and large sizes. I specifically asked for a lunch portion, which typically means a smaller size, but she chose to serve me a large without clarifying. That made me feel misled and taken advantage of. The oxtails were tasty, but the rice wasn't great and the plantains were overcooked and tough. I came back because I had a great experience the first time with a Jamaican friend who knows the cuisine, but this solo visit was disappointing. I support local businesses and was even encouraged to write a review during my first visit. It's unfortunate that this one isn't positive. Being honest and upfront with customers really matters. The food is precooked and kept hot in a buffet like station by the register where the staff serves you in take out containers. There is an option for each lunch/dinner to order small or large. The small portion is quite large so glad we went with that size. The oxtails were fall off the bone in a delicious brown sauce that the woman spooned all over the rice and peas. The entrees come with two sides. Your choice of Plantains, cabbage, rice & peas and plain white rice. I wasn't very hungry so I ordered the beef patty which was very tasty. Visited my brother and he suggested this new Jamaican restaurant. We ordered ahead of time before picking up. I honestly always am skeptical about new Jamaican spots from several bad experiences. When you walk in it's super bright and super clean. Your eyes immediately is met with Bob Marley image in dining area along with several other art work along the walls I ordered Oxtails and Curry chicken with rice and peas plantains. The food is AMAZINGG. They also have have several homemade sorrel, fruit punch, lemonade. ***I did not get a pic of my food because it was immediately inhaled Thank you to Victoria and the other staff member that helped with the food. TLDR: Solid Caribbean food, maybe toned down a bit for Westchester. Our UberEats order arrived quickly on an April Firday evening. The beef patties were excellent - the layered crust was great and the filling was no slouch. The jerk chicken wings were a relative disppointment, smoky but not all that flavorful otherwise. The oxtail stew was the best dish overall, a generous portion, with a rich and savory gravy. The rice and beans combo underneath was quite good as well, although I prefer the coconut flavored rice and peas that you sometimes receive at Jamaican restaurants. Fried plantains completed the plate. I thought the tender curry goat was also very good, but needed more heat - maybe I will get a bottle of scotch bonnet hot sauce to keep at home and adjust to taste. Meat on the bone is the way to go. La Portena enjoyed her jerk chicken-- which means it was not close to an authentic level of spice, but probably suitable for local palates. I got the Jerk Chicken small plate with cabbage. It is so filling!! There was a bogo offer on Postmates and I opted to give it a shot: flavor in every bite! The rice and peas alone were great (I got mine with oxtail sauce on top). The chicken was falling off the bone. The cabbage was fresh and crunchy. I also ordered a side of plantain but it was missing :(. They came through with the spicy beef patties though. Filling and satisfying to the taste for sure. We came here to enjoy a quick lunch after viewing a new apartment building nearby. We'll, the beef patties (1 mild & 1 spicy) and the 'jerk'chicken plate. Sadly disappointed in the taste, spice level and temperature in all of the plates. The patties were neither spicy nor warm in temperature. The 'jerk'chickenwasnt even spicy in any way, shape or form. This is definitely not authentic Jamaican quinine. Truth be told, the frozen beef patties we bought a few doors down at the Dollar General were way better!!!! Some of the food is very good (albeit very overpriced) and some of the employees are very nice and definitely worth seeing again. But besides the overpriced food, the reason for the pathetically low review is due to my brief experience as an employee of this establishment. If you wish to work at their White Plains franchise as I did, know that your manager is incredibly unprofessional and impolite. She will expect you to know and do everything perfectly by only the first or second day. And you're never given the chance to learn from any normal beginner mistakes, let alone be given the chance to improve. And this is not even mentioning your boss, the owner of Cravin Jamaican who was absolutely deplorable to work with. Before I quit (and the reason I quit) he told me that I was never included in the work schedule because I am a burden on the workforce and a headache to have at the job. Even though I was only called in to work for a total of five days in over a month. So although their jerk chicken and plantains are good and I am happy that I had some very kind and supportive coworkers, know that this is how things are done behind the admittedly very nice facade of Cravin' Jamaican.
