In the desert of decent food establishments lining JFK leading to the airport this venerable no-frills spot was a complete surprise. The shawarma was my choice and it did not disappoint. Served with rice, a generous scoop of hummus and a cabbage salad I will order again without hesitation. The ambience is virtually nonexistent but the staff is great. I wanted some Mediterranean food and my usual spot was a bit far so I decided to get it from here. Honestly, I should have took the drive to my usual spot. The gyro was cold, nowhere near warm and dry. The hummus had a lot of oil in it and had a weird taste. The cabbage was very bland. I ordered extra tzatziki sauce and only ate half of it. There was no cucumber or herbs in it. The pita bread was very very thin I'm use to a little thickness in pita bread. Then last I got the baklava it was so dry, it didn't even have much honey on it. I usually have to lick my fingers after I eat it LoL not this time there was none even on the plate. The filling was also dry and had a very dark color. I just ate the top pastry of it. OMG, was my lunch good yesterday! My work bought lunch to celebrate a co workers birthday (thank you Paul Davis Restoration of Greater Houston, you all are the best!) and I chose a gyro with no onion (my kryptonite) and grape leaves). WOW. I have had gyros all over our city and this one surprised me, and the hubby (he got the other half because they are very generous with portions). Lots of tender, true gyro meat with real tzatziki sauce...enough to enhance but not drown. Tomato and the best pita, soft and pillowy. The grape leaves were different than I have had elsewhere, good but in a vinegary marinade. I did not detect dill at all in them. But the gyro put a spell on hubby and wants one for dinner tonight, so guess where I am stopping after work! So should you, or for lunch. read more

I came here for lunch and got a large gyro salad and it was $17 which was a total ripoff. The size wasn't that large and it wasn't that much meat. Service was excellent and very friendly but I would definitely get the gyro combo next time as it's cheaper and more filling. read more

Food is amazing. Most authentic Lebanese food I've found in Houston area. Lovely service they are always so friendly and accommodating. I love that over the years I've seen the same smiling faces every time I've come in to eat. I have been a customer since the early days from almost 15 years ago and 9 times out of 10 at least one of the owners are there front and center offering outstanding service. The remodel they have done to the restaurant is really nice and gives it a more modern feel. Overall very happy to have a great Mediterranean go to restaurant! read more

Alwadi fries were really good, fries could be a little crispier. Chicken platter was decent, hummus wasn't the best. Overall the food was good and I would eat here again.....if the price was more reasonable. The two items I got did not warrant the $32 I was charged. This place is great for your lunch break if you work in the area!! The service is friendly and quick! It's a fast casual type of restaurant where you order at the register then wait for your number to be called. I ended up getting the vegetarian sampler since it came with a little bit of everything! Including falafel, dolma (stuffed grape leaves), and hummus. All of which were delicious! It was honestly more food than I needed and was around $15! the sampler also came with your choice of salad, either greek or Caesar. Try them out for some quick and delicious food! I was so excited to find a Mediterranean place! The food was good, but I will say I was so upset about the pita bread. It wasn't made there, no way it could have been with how paper thin it was. I will say however is that the taboulee and Kibbe was on point and made me feel like my friends were here. Now if I could just find a place with Kunafa and I will be in heaven. After about 20 mins of waiting our platter was ready and we dove in. The rice and cabbage were okay but a bit plain. Hummus, five stars. Chicken shawarma, four stars. Overall, the food is excellent. Bathrooms, deplorable. Urine on the floor, toilet seat, scraps of paper all over floor, plunger in the middle of the room for some reason, and no paper towels to dry your hands. Zero stars. Impact to the environment, shameful. I think their goal is to eliminate the need to wash dishes. Utensils are individually wrapped in plastic. Individually packaged ketchup, plastic cups for salad dressing, styrofoam for every part of you meal, even the pita are wrapped in plastic. Felt like I was still on an airplane. WTF. Zero stars. The only thing saving this place is the food. Please keep cooking, but maybe join the rest of the world and actually try to do something more sustainable with your methods of serving it. We stumbled upon this shopping center, and since it was reasonably packed we decided to stop in. I did the chicken shawarma plate, and my fiancé did the regular plate. We both got hummus, rice, and the cabbage. The pita bread it comes with isn't fresh or warm. It's not even just good store bought pita, so that was a huge let down. The meat, rice and hummus were OK. The cabbage was a little weird for me. We figure the hype around this place must be that it's one of the only games in town. The prices aren't low enough to justify it any other way. If you're near the airport and don't want to waste your money inside the airport, this isn't a terrible option, but I'm positive we could've found better had we searched a bit more. read more

Stopped by for a quick bite between flights. Overall: fresh, hot, fast eats. I got the chicken shwarma plate and loved the flavor and quantity of chicken on the rice. It comes with solid hummus and pre-packaged pita. The side salad was not as great. Entrees come with earl gray tea but unfortunately that is the only option. The environment is not the best and I did see some cockroaches in the back by the bathroom, but it's clean enough. If you're looking for a place to hangout in the area for awhile the bar next door would be better. Pro tip: there is wifi available but there is a typo on the sign that is posted. The first letter is lowercase. We ended up figuring that out after a few tries - the staff had no idea haha. They thought the wifi was just our again. read more

The gyros here are so big & filling. The first time I came here I ordered a combo which is a gyro, fries & a drink. I could certainly do without the fries next time. It's a hefty serving of food. The second time I came here I ordered the small portion of alwadi fries. (I didn't feel like eating a gyro) They were delicious! You get the option of beef or chicken. I chose beef & it was so good! Pleasantly surprised. I dropped by because I had some time to kill before my friends' flight arrived at IAH. I ordered the felafel plate. The felafel was freshly made and piping hot! Instead of the traditional ball shape, they were small flat rounds- kinda like a small slider burger. The crust was golden brown, crispy and chewy while the interior was soft and packed with garlic and parsley. The garlic tahini dipping sauce was a bit too watery for my liking but had a wonderful nutty and lemony taste. Your standard Mediterranean rice and a somewhat chewy, not so fresh, pita came with the felafel. An oily cabbage slaw-like side also accompanied the platter- this felt sort of out of place. The hummus was incredibly smooth and tasty. I'm gonna have to come back and try the rest of the menu. read more

Here are the general criteria through which I measure a Mediterranean place: - hummus - tabouli - baba ghanouj - meat quality - garlic sauce - pita bread - pickled veggies - radish and pepper, usually I walked in before 6pm on a Friday. Nearly empty, but that's TBExpected given that this place serves the airport crowd. I got the shwarma plate and couldn't decide on beef or chicken - the sweet cashier offered half and half and I ran with it. I also opted out of the hummus that comes with it and replaced it with baba ghanouj. This is hands down the best baba ghanouj I've had in Houston. Possibly ever. I'm downplaying the joy that is my mouth right now but don't take my word for it - try it. Smoky, tangy, the perfect consistency to juice up the meat. Mm mmm. The meat was a bit dry, the rice a bit too oily/greasy, and the pita bread the biggest let down (thin, store bought generic), but that baba ghanouj and the garlic sauce made up for all that. A little too salty but so good. Docking a star for the pita, really, but if that's the worst of it, I can't complain. The place was clean and so was the spacey bathroom. I'll try the kebab next time.
