My gold standard is in Livermore CA and these come close. Some subtle differences but overall reminds me of the Chinese run donuts shops of CA. No bourgeois frills here. Just solid donuts. I was really excited to try this donut place out, but I was overall a bit disappointed. The owners are super sweet, and the selection they had available was quite large. The space was very bright and decently-sized. I ordered a cream-filled, which they only had cream-filled chocolate donuts, which is not too big of a deal for me. What bothered me was that the donuts were placed in the bag stacked with the chocolate-side down... I lost nearly all the chocolate pulling my donut out. They tasted pretty good, and they were seriously filled which I enjoyed! I also got a glazed donut because I love the simplicity of it, but it was just not as light and fluffy as I had hoped. Oklahoma has an astounding number of donut shops. They almost all have kolaches, but not many carry breakfast burritos. This place does! They're small and tasty. One was fine for me, but a hungry morning may call for two. They're egg, cheese, and sausage. Straightforward and on the money. And the donuts are really good. I may have found my go-to donut shop, and that's really saying something, given how many there are to choose from. Oklahoma is a philosophically-challenged place. But they did come up with one timeless classic. "I think, therefore I A.M. Donuts." There are some really lovely people running this donut shop, where they make pretty decent kolaches with not very spicy jalapeno sausages, and they make excellent glazed donuts that delighted me. I can see what all the hype is about because the glazed donuts are really delicious. I would definitely come back for those. They're cheap and fluffy and they taste fresh and light and very good. The service is really nice from both the woman and man who owned the shop and the prices are great. Easily the best donut I've had in Oklahoma to date. Don't ever come here in the PM. The owners and the kindest, friendliest people which is always a breath of fresh air during a chaotic morning. The donuts and breakfast sandwiches are delicious. This is possibly the BEST Kolache I've ever had in my life!!! The dough is perfect Flakey, sweet, and savory! The sausage bursts with flavor. The nice couple that owns the place do an amazing job! The doughnuts are gorgeous, I got some, and they are not overly sweet which is perfect, some doughnuts are pure sugar. These are like eating clouds of happiness! The croissant is store bought, so it's not fresh; very little egg is in the sandwich; and the bacon had bad flavor, bad smell, and was discolored (how do you mess up bacon?). This place has a lot going for it when comparing other donut shops in the vicinity. For one, they're open until 1 on Sunday and not noon like every other donut shop around it. This is perfect for the late Sunday movers and shakers (me). I stopped in around noon on a Sunday and they had a decent selection, although I'm sure they have more if you go in a bit earlier. I picked up a jelly donut, a plain cake, an apple fritter, and one kolache. The jelly donut and the plain cake were good donuts! However, the kolaches and the apple fritters were out of this world good. I agree with other reviewers here - there's something special about their kolaches. My boyfriend was smitten after one bite. The apple fritters are perfect - not too sweet, great apple flavor, crispy on the outside and a caramely slightly chewy inside. It was absolutely bang up with my morning cup of coffee. The woman who helped me was extremely sweet and nice! COVID stuff: they require masks per a sign on their door and they have all the chairs on their tables up. It checks all the boxes. Wonderful owners, great prices and a phenomenal donut. My "go to" order is two glazed and a maple long John. If you're lucky enough to get a glazed straight from the back, you'll think you've died and gone to heaven. AM donuts is the measuring stick in which I gauge all others. The outside of the building looks run down ..... but the variety of donuts offered inside for a great price is very much worth the drive. I purchased a dozen mixed variety for less than $11. The take out box that the dozen donuts were placed in was not the standard white box at other shops. AM donuts used a nicely festive and decorative box! Customer service was very friendly. It is a small mom and pops shop but the best donuts in the area! I love their glazed donuts! It is owned by an elderly asian couple. He looks mean but they are very sweet. She's always smiling! When you bite into the donut it is soft and fluffy. It isn't overly sweet and doughy like crispy cremes. Even after an hour or two the donuts are still good! I'm not a fan of chocolate donuts but I did have a bite of my friend's and it wasn't overly sweet! Dunkin' Donuts on NW 36th and May used to be my go-to place, but they often serve stale product and never seem to keep the things I like in stock. 7-11 donuts are consistently bad. Brown's is okay, but the counter staff makes me regret it every time I go in (honestly, do you realize that customers are actually what keeps you in business? You must be brutally overworked and underpaid, or you're simply miserable people). I have now found my new donut place. AM Donuts is just across NW 28th Street from Rococo on N. Penn. It's an old strip mall with nothing to write home about in terms of decor, but it's clean and bright inside. You're not here to hang around all day, though. You're here for donuts, and AM Donuts delivers in a big way. Their products are amazingly fresh. The icings are sweet, but not cloying. The raised donuts are airy and topped with just enough icing/toppings to contribute flavor without making a mess. The cake donuts (which I usually shun as greasy dense hockey pucks) are where the freshness really comes across. They really taste like little circles of fresh, moist delightful cake. I'm so happy to discover this place. The neighborhoods like Shepherd, Putnam Heights, Crown Heights, Military Park, etc. needed a good donut shop. What makes a great donut shop is not always great donuts. Generally, I found the product at most donut shops is fairly homogenous. With the exception of a few "specialty" donut shops, what really draws me in his customer service and cleanliness. AM Donuts is well-worn, but always immaculate. It's clear they take pride in their shop. But where they really shine is there warm and welcoming atmosphere. Each time I've been in, service has been efficient and friendly. Look inside your box or bag after you leave and you are sure to find a few donut holes thrown in for good measure. My current obsession are their old-fashioned donuts, which are perfect for dunking in your morning cup of coffee at the office. And with good prices, great service and a delicious selection of donuts (and savory options), I'll be back to AM Donuts sooner than later. read more
