Came back in town to find a broken spring. Could have/should have fixed it myself but so busy I decided to trust this company to handle it. Said it would be about $300 when I called. Seemed high but to get it fully working I decided to do it. They came the next day and fixed the spring and removed a rail so I could get the door open. Said he (owner!) wasn't familiar with the brand motor I had. Said he could figure it out but didn't have time so he left. $360 bill. $150 for labor - fair. $30 for parts - fair. $180 for "same day" service call. Wasn't same day. Wasn't an emergency either. Which I explained. I had another car to use. Tried to upsell me on a very expensive motor then left. I spent 20 min on YouTube, researched the motor myself and reset the system, adjusted it, remounted the rail and it's been working great for over a month. $360 for me to actually fix what he "professional" and "owner" should have done. I called to complain about bill and was threatened with legal action if I didn't pay. I'm fine with paying for what it got. A replaced spring and helping me get the door open. Not fine with a $180 extra charge for "same day service" which wasn't same day service. Be weary of this company and don't sign anything until the work is actually done. Owner was friendly just not honest, and apparently not very knowledgeable. $360 would have been worth a 100% fully operating door. I have called numerous times and left a voicemail to their emergency line but no call back. 0 stars. I had put a request in September 2021. Contract was signed and returned within the month. No contact and response from them until end October. I was told dispatch would call on the following Monday to schedule a date. No call. I called back at the end of the week and scheduled for a technician to come the next Tuesday Morning. I had specified that all the work needs to be done before 12 as I had to leave for work. Dispatch assured it will be done before 12. Monday comes and no confirmation call. Tuesday morning comes and no call. At 11am, I call and ask about the status of the technician. Dispatch then says that the technician assigned to my case called in sick and could not come out to me. OK. I reschedule for Thursday morning, again specifying that it needs to be done before 12. Again, reassurance that it would. Wednesday comes around and no confirmation call. Thursday morning comes around and I call at 7am to find out what time the technician would be coming around. I was told that the technician was 'deciding if he was well enough to come in' and they would call me back at 8am. At about 8.30am I get a call to say the technician called in sick and to reschedule the appointment. I reschedule again for tuesday morning. I again specify that it must be done before 12, and again express frustration that it has taken so long. I was told my job would be placed on high priority and it would be done before 12. Monday evening (yesterday), I get a call to confirm the appointment the next day. Again I get assurance that it would be done before 12. I asked specifically what time the technician would come and was told 8-10am, and it would be done before 12. Specifically asked and was assured. Tuesday morning (today) comes around. I get a call at 9.30am saying there is no guarantee that the technician can get to me and finish the job before 12, and asked if I could stay later or reschedule. I'm just aghast they expect that I can just rearrange a whole day of work for them at the last minute. I had put off 3 separate days of work for nothing. ABSOLUTELY UNPROFESSIONAL. read more

We have two doors that were poorly installed by the contractor and asked AM PM to come and help us out. They said they would come out for $250. The cost was actually $300 because they took time to sit in their truck and write a report. They gave us a report stating that two kinds or screws were used and some of the screws were stripped. They declined to work on the doors. So we have a $300 report stating that our doors don't work right, which we already knew. As a business, they have figured out a need that people have: doors. They have figured out how to make money on that need: write $300 reports about screws. They forgot the service part, however. They didn't actually fix the doors, which was what we had expected. read more

The garage door to my house had problems opening and closing over the weekend and I wasn't able to drive anywhere. Kelvin got on the phone with me and quickly talked me through how to open and close the garage by hand. I was able to go about my weekend as planned! Kelvin then did a great job of assessing the power issue with my garage door opener and lubing up the mechanics. It runs much better than before and the difference is one you can HEAR. I am absolutely shocked by the complete lack of professionalism and standard practices by this company. My company needed several of our office doors repaired and locks installed on some of them. I first tried to request a free quote on their website. No matter how many times I tried, I kept getting errors when trying to submit the form. Fine. So I called. I get some woman on the phone who sounded utterly confused out of her mind why anyone would be calling about door related repairs. I asked if the company could send someone to our office (which close to where their company is located) to look at the doors and make sure that they could even repair them seeing as they are custom doors and each door has a different problem. She essentially implied that they don't send people out to look at what needs to be repaired at all. So how exactly are they supposed to give an accurate estimate? After I described briefly the issue with the doors and explained that we were just currently getting quotes from companies for the repairs, she flat out asked me to email them a quote that we got from another door company and would just give us an estimate based off of the work descriptions on that quote. I have never once been asked to provide a competitor's quote and I found it extremely unusual. However, I went with it and cropped out all the pricing and company information and send them the work description from the other company we had a quote from. A few hours later I get a call from someone named Doug (I think?) who greeted me awkwardly with "Heeeeey you." He informed me that he would be taking over the "case" from the woman I had spoken with earlier and asked me to go around to each door and take 2-3 pictures of them. Now normally that wouldn't be a problem, but as I had explained before, these are custom doors. The issues with the doors varied and the only way to get an accurate quote and even make sure that they have the right tools and equipment to repair the doors is to have someone from the company come out and physically look at the doors to understand the problem. Plus I know nothing about doors, and definitely not enough to accurately explain the mechanical problems with them other than saying it won't open or close properly. Literally every other company I have ever asked an estimate from (FOR ANYTHING) has sent someone to come look at the problem and give us a price based on what they'd be able to do. He snippily told me "oh so you don't want to even send us some photos so we can get an ACCURATE reading on the problems?" Seriously? That is absolutely no way to speak to a potential customer. I told him politely once again that the only way to get an ACCURATE idea of the issues with each door is to have one of their technicians come look at them and give us a quote accordingly. If that was something that AMPM did not do, then we do not need to move forward with a quote from them. After I said that, he simply responded with "Ok. Thanks." And that was the end of it. I am truly baffled by the customer service of this company. read more

I needed to replace an internal door to an office with a solid core door and appropriate jam seals. I contracted with AM/PM to install a 17/8 with mortissed bottom sweep and jam seals. I agreed to a $3100 estimate. A man came to my home to look at the door and jam. I was told at the time that the jam stop could be moved and a thicker solid core door installed. I knew I was being overcharged for the materials and labor, but I felt laxy and decided to do it as perhaps it may be worth it. Then the value, like sand through a sieve, dissipated. I received an email from the company changing the specs to a 13/8" door without the automatic sweep. I was told that the door jam was a single piece and thus not modifiable. The thinner door could not accomodate the mortissed sweep. I cancelled the order, hired another door installer endorsed by Westside door and windows and saved $2000. The door cost me $260, the jam seals from the same company they specified about $125, and installation cost me less than $300 for a total of less than $800. That's a $2200 savings. AM/PM charged me for the jam seals because they were "non-returnable" and a $200 for the site visit. I spoke with two people and was assured that the pasrt could not be returned or otherwise used and thus I was charged. I then requested the parts that I paid for and now 4 weeks later I have yet to receive those seals despite being told twice that they were being shipped. I continue to request the parts (They charged me double what I paid for the same parts) to no avail. I'm hopeing this review will get someone's attention. Until then, buyer beware. read more

How does this company stay in business. Three attempts to set up a time for an estimate but they refused to commit to a day and time. Since I work,, i can't afford to take a whole day off for a quote. I even suggested they give me a window the way the cable companies do it. But they refused. Spoke to the manager who had such disregard for the client and refused to try to figure something out. When I made suggestions her only reply is "we been doing it the same for 35 years and you ain't gonna change it!" They requested pictures which I sent over via text. I spoke to a young man named Chad, he clearly explained the issue and how they will approach in solving the problem. I've been using AM/PM Door for years. They have replaced our wrought iron garage gate motor, installed beautiful metal slow-close fire doors for our garbage bin cinder block closet (never thought I could be so happy about trash doors), adjusted and oiled all of our entry gates, replaced a broken garage gate spring (a BIG spring), installed a new electric door strike, and a "kant slam" spring for the walk-through portion of the garage gate. Our doors get very heavy use since it's an apartment complex. So things tend to wear out due to use and being exposed to the elements (door hydraulic closers, etc). I've been living here for nearly 10 years, and I've seen things fall apart. But the work done by AM/PM has lasted long enough so far to be considered solid work and a good value. Nothing has failed. And if there are issues, they have stood by their work. Pricing is always a concern, and I've read other reviews about AM/PM's rates. The smaller the job, the more one tends to think "wow, it's that much for such a small thing?" but keep in mind, if there weren't a minimum fee, then how could they stay in business? 2 people usually come out and if they spend an hour or two and only got $50, well, you can do the math. I always ask up front how much for the call, for troubleshooting, etc. So if you don't want surprises, just ask. I'm always given an honest answer. Kelvin is a great guy and my advice is to simply call and talk and troubleshoot on the phone before asking them to come out. Think of it this way - AM/PM wants your business, and being helpful is always a great way for them to get it. If you simply tell Kelvin or another team member what your situation is and what you're trying to accomplish over the phone, then based on the conversation you can decide if it's still worth your money and their time. Everyone has slightly different doors so even though you could just say "I have X problem, please come look at it.", I've found AM/PM is very detailed and the more photos I email and conversations I have, the more precise, on point and successful the result is. You can either save your time by paying without explaining, or invest a little time to save some money and find a good solution. Not everyone will have a perfect experience, and there have been one or two times where I've questioned the cost or approach to the work. But after a conversation, things always get explained and resolved. I'd like to think AM/PM really cares about its customers, because they're always friendly and genuine, even if they do get busy sometimes and don't always get back to me right away. Run as far away from this company as possible. 100s of calls to replace a single door - they messed up the installation and it's been hell to get them back.
