I rarely, if ever, own vehicles outside their original manufacturer warranty. However, I do own a British SUV that is one year past its original bumper-to-bumper and I plan to keep it for quite a while. Now that the warranty isn't a factor anymore, there's no reason to visit the stealership. I found AMA Motors on a third-party site for Jaguar mechanics, cross-referenced it with these Yelp reviews and was sold. I called up Mike, told him what I needed, and he was glad to book me in a short amount of time. I dropped off the car at our scheduled time, he welcomed me in, reviewed my needs and gave me a pick-up time. I asked him to look the vehicle over and suggest anything that may need to be done -- which I'm well aware is an open invitation for a less honest mechanic to have a field day with the bill. Mike confirmed that all looked good and that no additional work was needed. I also confirmed via my app that the car was road-tested to make sure it was actually inspected, and it was. After reading all the great reviews, i brought my BMW X5 in because of a check engine light. Mike said it would be 1/2 hour, 45 mins. at the most, so i dropped it off and went to have lunch and run errands. 90 minutes later and still no call so i call him and no explanation as to why he never called me--he just rattled off the numbers. I was in no hurry so fine, but this is where it gets bad. Now, I hate car stuff. Just hate it. I hate not knowing much about it and always feeling at the mercy of the experts. I depend on them to be honest. And sometimes I dream that they'll be fair. He told it's the O-2 sensor. He quoted me $633.38 for parts, and $120 for labor. He had a print out of the trouble codes but didn't want me to keep it, and told me he'll get it done in 3 hours. I told him I was going to wait and he didn't seem to like it, but the price seemed so high that I wanted to get another estimate. Boy am I glad I did. To make sure that the diagnosis was correct, I went to Center BMW. They quoted me $644.20 for parts and labor!! Part alone was $306.42. HUH?? The stealership quoted me LESS than this place?? This is so opposite of what everyone else is saying on Yelp that I'm really perplexed. I couldn't have come off that terribly stupid, but who knows. Maybe he thought i'd just fork over the money and be done with it. Experiences like this make me wish rollerskates were cool again. :-( read more

left the car there for a simple service. They kept calling me that i needed to replace two other parts, for $300 and $600 each in parts only... i brought the german OEM parts for much less ($300 total) and dropped there the next day. I should have know something was wrong when they were quoting me parts more expensive than the dealer. 2 weeks later they had done nothing! i just took the car to some other place (paying them for their free-inspection because i wasn't doing the work there... even though i gave them 2 weeks to get around to do it) on the other places I took the car later, both told me that I was crazy replacing those parts that were perfect. Finally one of those other shops did the simple job on the next day and for less money than those guys would have charged me. took me some time to do the review. Still have both parts in the original box. And I doubt I will ever need them. read more

Absolutely superb. I came in here for an urgent suspension repair and rear light fix. The dealership quoted me at almost $1200. Mike replaced the light for free and then quoted me at 1/4 of what the dealership said. I asked politely what the turnaround was because I had to drive out of town for Mother's Day, and he said that same day before closing (which was 1 pm on Saturday. I came at 9 am). Not only did he give me a ride back to my apartment, but he also went to the dealership to pick up the part he needed for my car. He had everything done in less than 3 hours AND picked me up from my apartment. Amazing. Mike told me what I needed, how long it would take, how much it was, and did not upsell me to get unnecessary maintenance. I took my car in for a gasket leak on my car, He quoted and gives me other services I do not need, like change an engine bolt, and a gasket. Charges $500. for time and parts. States he cleaned the top area of the car where the gasket resides. I took it in for another opinion, then the person giving inspections looks everything under the engine cover is filthy and oily like no one even lifted the area to clean and inspect where the leak is coming from, none of the bolts and gaskets look untouched. Not the place I would be bringing my car to anymore, after this episode of overcharging and nothing done an absolute scam artist. Always have a second opinion and have the mechanic take it apart in front of you, to make sure the services are done accordingly. read more

I googled a BMW shop in Burbank and AMA BMW came up. I gave it a try called in for my Air Conditioner problem for my BMW 323is and spoke to Mike. Mike was very sweet and helpful said I could bring my car by for an estimate and inquire about the root of the problem that day. I was referred by a friend to BMW Service By AMA Motors. My car has been at times idling when I stop at a light or has been sluggish when I accelerate up a hill. I explained what I had been experiencing to Mike, the shop owner. Mike took the time to check my car. Mike took the reading from the computer and immediately began addressing the problem. Mike is an awesome and honest mechanic. Finding a honest and ethical mechanic is nearly impossible to find as most are out for their money and trying to screw vulnerable customers. My wife's 2013 MBZ GL 550 which has 70,000 miles stalled in the middle of the road and to me it seemed to be a fuel pump issue. Had the car towed there and after a couple days Mike called to tell me that the issue is a failing fuel pump in the area of the gas tank. Just labor alone to remove the tank would cost over $600. Mike told me that there is a little known (totally unknown by me) warranty called an "emissions warranty" that goes beyond the standard 4 years 60,000 and he felt strongly that my issue would be covered under that. He advised and I followed his advise of taking my car to the dealership and knowing about the warranty I told the dealership advisor who himself didn't even know about it. They did their diagnostic check and the advisor checked the warranty and let me know that in fact the warranty does exist and I'm covered. Car is gonna be fixed for $00000. Mike thanks for being an honorable human and doing the right thing. You could've easily charged me whatever and I would've paid. Mike's always been really helpful and honest about what needs to be done on my car. I have a 2006 BMW and after my warranty ran out, I found Mike who has been my go to guy ever since. Whenever I have a problem, he always diagnoses it quickly and figures out the most cost-effective way to resolve it. He also has the expensive BMW computer which connects with the newer cars to program dates and clear codes, which most regular shops don't have. Two BIG thumbs up! I first started going to to Mike in 2006 with my 530i. He has always had hands down the best prices and his quality of work is unmatched. He is the only person I will take my cars to. He has serviced 2 5 series and now my Range Rover. The most valuable thing about Mike is that he is always Honest! That is incredibly hard to find in a mechanic. I once took my BMW to another BMW specialist in Marina Del Rey and he quoted me $5,000 and told me that with the issues I had the car wasn't worth keeping. I then went to Mike and he looked the car over and said that the other guys was full of it and most of the items could be fixed inexpensively.. He than only charged me $1,300 and fixed all that needed to be fixed. I then had the car for another 3 years. I have and would recommend Mike and AMA Motors to anyone. I just took my Mini Cooper to Mike and I have to say that AMA provides excellent service at a good price and does not keep your car forever. Mike pays attention to detail and fully explains what you need to get back on the road. I have become a dedicated customer for all my mini needs. It was my first time to have my 2004 BMW 3series served by Mike at AMA Motors. I use to go to the dealer but this time, they were going to charge me $1700 dollars to replace a fan belt, the crankcase vent valves and hoses and the thermostat, which seemed very overpriced. After that, I went to AMA Motors that I found on yelp. Mike was able to give me a precise diagnostic and changed only what needed to be changed. At the end, I payed only 728 dollars to fix my BMW and it is running great.
