I originally came in for the brazilian wax Groupon that I found online, but ended up getting my hair cut as well, as they offered 20% for new customers. From the first moment of walking in, I was already impressed with the salon. Friendly, clean, and extremely hospitable. The girl at the front desk was very sweet and polite. I hadn't gotten my hair cut in a year because I was too scared to find someone that would butcher my hair, as has happened a few times in Boston before... This is my favorite haircut I have ever gotten. See Laura! She is the best!! As for the brazilian wax experience - the best. I have gone to several places in Boston on Newbury St, and in Wellesley, and nothing compared to the cleanliness and professionalism of the girl - Anna - who works there. She was so quick I couldn't believe it. It took her only 30 minutes to do a full brazilian wax, something that took over an hour at all the other places, all much more painful and uncomfortable. This review is only about eyebrow threading with Anna Fahouli. I went there for the first time tonight and was SO impressed and happy to find a spot. I don't get my eyebrows waxed because it is too hard on my skin. For some reason, it is really hard to find threading in Boston! I went on yelp, found this place and figured I would try it out. I will definitely be returning. Anna is very gentle and while threading can be a painful procedure, she has her own method which hardly hurts at all. She is friendly and gets the job done quickly and beautifully. Highly highly recommended. I wasn't really sure what to expect from Amaci, but I was in the neighborhood, I needed a cut/color and was shopping around for a new stylist. I am not a professional hair stylist and so my dream stylist is someone who can listen to my vague idea of what I want and turn that into a haircut that not only looks amazing, but looks amazing on me. All I can say is that Amad is a dream come true! I gave him my vague ideas of the cut and color. He then took 5 minutes to educate me on the right cuts and color for my face shape, skin tone and (gasp!) gray hairs. I was a believer right from the beginning and let him work his magic. He gave me highlights first. I've had highlights before and they usually make me look like a bleached skunk. But he was amazing with my dark brown hair. The highlights were natural, rich and not streaky at all. He promised me that it would blend the grays better than any all over color and he was true to his word - I know grays are hiding in there, but I can't see any! Next we moved to the cut. Usually people take my vague ideas and give me a standard, boring haircut. He crafted a perfect cut. I say crafted, because the man spent 60 minutes painstakingly cutting/razoring/hacking my unruly hair into submission. I've never seen a stylist quite so perfectly OCD about getting every aspect right. Several washes later, I appreciate Amad's skill even more. This is a cut that looks perfect every time - even when I'm the one blow-drying my hair! There aren't any weird layers or strange settling that requires some fancy product. She was very personable and knowledgeable. She truly listens to what you want done and is not one of those hairdressers who pretends they do and then you end up with a cut you didn't ask for and on top of that, not flattering for your facial features. But, I am sure if you're feeling adventurous one day and don't want to be in the driver's seat, Katie D. can match the perfect hairstyle for your personality. I walked out of there looking better than I anticipated and bought an about $30 L'Oreal Professional hair protein conditioning treatment- which is great value for their professional lines of products. Ok, my friend works for L'Oreal so I am biased but she has naturally thin and dry hair and these products are really making her hair healthy and more thick. And I booked my next color session with Katie D. (as I am about 4 months pregnant, I chose the gloss option which has no ammonia/chemicals) It goes for $60- again great value for this high end salon. Just starting working in Back Bay a year ago, and have been jumping from shop to shop, and I have finally found my place. I was looking for a good place for a men's hair cut. I've gone from the bottom of the barrel at Supercuts, to the Newbury St salon, and this place is a combination of both. It's not as posh with Newbury, but it doesn't have the price tag either. There are fancier salons you could go to-- but I like the low-key atmosphere of Amaci. Getting a haircut from the top stylist at the salon, Amad, only cost $65. That's a bargain compared to other boston salons, where the same price will get you a cut with a junior stylist. It was a great haircut. I just went back for my second one, and the quality was the same as the first. Amad listened to what I wanted and made helpful suggestions. Bottom line: Attentive stylist, nice atmosphere, not outlandish price. I could get used to that. I went to Amaci off the recommendation of my friend who is a regular here. He swears by Michelle, so I thought i'd give her a try. Ever since I moved here 2 years ago i've been a wandering nomad in the land of salons. It gets kinda lonely! Michelle took the time to figure out the kind of cut that I like to have and really paid attention to detail. You could tell she was looking for that stray hair that makes you want to cry 2-3 weeks out. She got them all! Only thing i'll say is she did get a bit excessive with the hair removal, but that's probably my fault more then hers. I have fairly fine (but a lot of) hair, and if you thin it too much, it makes me look like i'm balding. I'm not. I'm 24. None of that yet. The conversation was some of the better that i've had in Boston and she really wanted me to come back. I wasn't necessarily sold, but after i've had to some time to mull it over, I can't see a reason why not to. Tell them Frank sent you, they'll give you a referral discount if you're a new customer, making it even more affordable. Cash is preferred, but they do take cards. I bought a groupon here for two apts and was happy the first time I came in. When I came in for the second apt I scheduled they told me I would not be able to use the groupon because I was not a "new customer"... that seems like a flaw in the system. So I basically spent more than the normal price on a single apt because I bought a two-pack under the impression I could use them both when I could not. I've been going to Amaci Salon for over two years now. I can only recommend the salon with the highest regards. The staff is always extremely welcoming and friendly, offering water or tea while waiting for my stylist. The place is really clean and the design is very sleek and modern. The stylists always do an amazing job, and it seems the customers like it to. I always hear positive chatter and laughs throughout the salon! There is a reason I've been coming back for over 2 years--my stylists, Amad, ALWAYS gives me a great cut and style. He's great at communicating and taking feedback to deliver exactly what I'm looking for. I always receive a complimentary wash and shampoo, with a little scalp massage thrown in, before the stylist makes final touch-ups. The whole experience is very relaxing. I refuse to go back to a barber shop for a mens cut. The location is great too. It's within walking distance from the orange and green lines. The salon is always able to accommodate my appointments, especially if I book ahead. They also welcome and accept walk-ins as well, which is how I initially got my first cut with them! I had to ask my old stylist in Florida what to tell him I wanted done, because every other person I have gone to in Boston has messed up my color and it would take my regular stylist in Florida hours to fix my hair! Rave reviews! My first day at work after my Brazilian blowout and I was stopped in the hall by coworkers staring in awe at my shiny, straight hair. My clients couldn't stop praising my new look. I have shoulderlength hair that becomes frizzy and wavy. With the Brazilian Blowout I can wash my hair and look great-with straight smooth hair, for months! This was my first experience at the Amaci salon, and having had bad experiences in various places in the past, I was leery. My experience exceeded my expectations. The blowout was expertly performed. Beyond that my haircut was the best I've ever had. Everybody there is highly knowledgeable and professional. Their prices are comparable. Their products are priced at what you would buy them for on Amazon. A Brazilian blowout is expensive-- it's about $400 --but you have to think about it as saving all the multiple times you go to the hairdresser, that now is unnecessary --for many months. You save not only the cost of your beauty salon visit, but you save the parking and the time and the hassle of going to the salon for a long period of time. Not only that, it's wash and wear! I came here for hair color, cut, and style as a first time client. I was given a warm welcome by reception as expected at a high-end salon and was pleased with this experience. However, a couple things about my experience left a sour taste in my mouth. Firstly, it appeared that workers at the salon were taking shots from mini, shot-sized red cups in the back, including my stylist who would be returning to finish my hair, the boss, and others that still had clients coming in. This was upsetting because I'd expect anyone at work in this environment would be 100% sober. Secondly, this salon only had 2 sinks, so I watched the team hustle to get the sinks cleaned for use while other clients waited, which was kind of gross. Blobs of hair were pulled from the drain, but the sinks still slowly drained between uses. Lastly, pricing was above what I would expect for the service, given my hair was on the shorter side for the service requested and I was well within my booked timeframe. I suspect this is because they offer a 1st time client "discount". Color was brighter than discussed, but not unbearable enough to ask for revision. If I'm seeking a high-end hair salon experience, I'd return to Newbury Street! read more

I should've read the reviews before booking an appointment for a full wax here, but I'm also a sucker for a Groupon. Wrong idea. The salon is clean and everyone was friendly enough, the lady who does the waxes did her best to make me feel comfortable and she seemed sweet. Unfortunately the wax that they used was the strips instead of the hard wax you just press down at a place like European Wax Center. My skin was bleeding and it felt like it was burning, in a lot more pain than I should've been. I like how usually they press the skin when they pull the strip off at least, and she didn't do that. I felt rushed in and out - I would suggest going to a more private place more focused on waxing. read more

I live in Houston, TX, but was in Boston attending a formal business event for which I needed my hair styled. I was staying down the street at the Revere Hotel and decided to visit Amaci based on proximity. I am so very lucky that Adam styled my hair. I showed him a few photos of classic french finger waves and he immediately went to work. Adam meticulously curled, pinned, and placed each strand of hair to create the exact look I was hoping for. I received repeated compliments all evening at the company gala and I have Adam to thank for it. In fact, my best friend is a stylist and makeup artist back home and she raved about how Adam "really knows his business" and "perfectly captured that old Hollywood shape". I went to the salon and showed Amad 3 pictures of platinum baylage, most of which were clearly photoshopped and I asked him to do his best to re-create them in some shape or form, according to his taste, and in my opinion - he did outdid the photos. Amad had two consultations with me before he did my hair - the first was when I inquired about the hair style prior to making the appointment, and the second right before he did my hair, and he paid attention, but also offered his own opinion, which I really like in a hairstylist. I view them as experts and am always excited when a hairstylist has a vision of their own, and Amad always does. My friend had a similar experience. She came in wanting one thing; Amad told her about a crazy new technique (at the time it was a new trend), so she got excited and decided to go on a whim and let him work his magic, and she left extremely happy. Same happened to me. I wanted platinum. He decided silver is the thing to do instead - I agreed (although I was scared to death as to what it would come out like)... and silver is a hard thing to get right on anyone.There is a fine line between magical unicorn hair and having unpleasant gray. I think he hit the nail on the head, and I cannot believe that it actually works and looks tasteful. I was scared of it looking cheap, but nope. It looks amazing. There is somehow this very smooth transition between my brown and the silver... there is no brassy orange in between. The style looks good on straight hair and on curls. I am very happy. Better yet... after my appointment with Amad, my friend and I went to a restaurant, and the very first thing that happened is that 4 women at a nearby table came up to me, asking me who did my hair. I told them... and then they came back, asked to take a picture of my hair, and to write down the name of the salon where I got it done. This salon was recommended to me by my aunt, a frequent client at Amaci. I was very nervous coming because I wasn't sure what to expect because my hair was a MESS. However, upon arriving I was greeted by Allie, a super nice receptionist. Then, Ahmad asked what I wanted to do to my hair and he offered me options that were within my budget. He picked out a color and Karina treated my hair, but I was still super nervous. However, Karina was so, so sweet. She answered all my questions about the procedure and she made me feel more assured about the outcome. After the color settled, my hair looked 100% better. All I did was have one color dyed all over. Ahmad suggested I should get a hair cut so he offered me a discounted price with a blow and dry. I couldn't get the name of the man who blow dried my hair, but he was so sweet and hilarious!! Ladies, I'm over 60, and I just got the best haircut and color of my life. I was so desperate to get out from under an overgrown bad haircut and faded brassy color that I couldn't wait another day and picked Ahmad at Amaci based on reviews and the fact that he had a sudden immediate opening. I trusted him immediately when he said all the things that I knew were true before I even told him and, most importantly, when he based his recommendations on my face shape and hair texture, not on his own whim. So, since he had some time, I decided on the spot to get a full hair makeover. Based on our agreement, I needed a pretty radical cut. I had never let myself go that short before, but I had faith in him. I also got four intricate color processes (roots and color plus highlights plus baleage plus gloss---a total transformation!) which of course goes perfectly with my new look. I hoped to be pleasantly surprised, but three hours later, I was actually amazed. I look stylish! And young! I agree with others that the eyebrow threading was good. The decor is good here, very relaxing and clean. I got a pretty plain haircut, but I wasn't looking for anything too exciting. My only complaint is that they waited until after they had soaked my head in the sink to mention that they would have to charge me extra for the blow dry I requested. (This was night time in December, so I wasn't thrilled about going out with wet hair). Amaci Salon is a great place. The environment, the staff, the service, it's all great. The reason I am giving it one star is because of the experience I had. And the decision making of Amaci. I am a male with medium to long, brown, thick wavy/curly coarse hair. I went to Amaci after reading previous reviews praising the results they saw after going to Amaci. Well I went to Amaci and showed the main guy, Ahmad, a picture of what I was going for. Keep in mind, before I went to Amaci I HAD a thick and full head of hair with lots of volume. I simply wanted a cut for curly coarse hair. Well he suggested I "relax" my hair after trimming it a bit. He trimmed my hair and then we proceeded with the 90 dollar 15 minute "relaxing" treatment. Till this day I regret going to Amaci every second. This relaxing treatment has taken the natural flow and direction, body, volume, fullness whatever you want to call it away from my hair. I now come out of the shower and my hair just completely falls. It seems dead. I can no longer style it the way I want. My hair has no volume and does not stay up even with the use of products. My experience at Amaci was almost a month ago if not longer and I still cannot style my hair like I wanted. My hair has grown back but the entire top of my head (the main part) just falls down and doesn't do what I want it to do. The whole experience was a waste of money that I could have used at a salon that understands what to do with different types of hair and what decisions to make to get the customer the style he wants. Customers put all their trust in a hair stylist and salon and I am never going back to Amaci. Like I said, no hard feelings to the staff or salon itself. They are great people but they seem amateur in knowing what to do with various styles and types of hair. Especially with curly hair. So if you have curly hair, DO NOT go to Amaci. I am trying out Anita Kurl Salon next week after reading reviews about how the hair stylists there are pro at styling and cutting curly hair and understanding the vision of a customer. read more

I have been coming to see Amad and his team regularly for the past 3 years. Every time I come in I am treated professionally and leave with a great cut. The staff is great with appointment setting and reminders. The owner Amad is always there on site keeping everything clean and consistently fluid. He makes great product recommendations and even today took me as a walk-in! How many owners make themselves available like that? I wouldn't dream of having any other location touch my hair. I started going because the location was so close to my law school and haven't stopped since. Parking is always available, great hours and a well run operation. I work in the customer service industry and there is nothing more unpleasant when the other person on the other end is treating you with indifference. I just wish I caught her name... She mentioned the person who does waxes does not work on Monday; I asked if I could come another day and still obtain the same value. She didnt give that option and I that's fine.. I understand. She mentioned there is someone else who can do it, but the only availability was at 5pm.. Since the only opening didn't work for me, she then went on to say well we are fully booked! Her suggestion was; well just call groupon and get refunded... really? This is a great way your employees are bringing new clienteles' to your business.. I'm really bothered by this! I had a really terrible previous experience at one of the salons in downtown area and ended up with ugly reddish roots and yellow balayage that bothered me every time I looked in the mirror. And while I was researching local salons in Boston, my friend who recently got a beautiful cut, recommended me Amaci. That's how I met Sarah Martin. So precise, so professional, Sarah transformed my hair and created this gorgeous shade of cool blonde and gave me advice on future hair coloring techniques. I came here to get my hair curled for a ball and expected to wear my hair down. After the lady had curled my hair, I did not like it at all. My hair is pretty thin and curling it the way she did was not the way to go. I was really unhappy so I asked her to put my hair up in an updo. Was not happy paying full price for this updo when I had to walk the hairdresser through how to put my hair up. I felt bad that it didn't look nice after she curled it but I was not walking out of there with my hair looking like that. Overall, the updo was okay but not what I was expecting. Would have given it 4 stars since the lady was very nice about doing the updo for me but since I still had to pay full price for the updo I'm going to give it 2 stars. read more

I would give this place -5 stars if I could. Never in my life have I ever had an experience at a hair salon like I did. I booked a blowout for NYE. I arrived, and there were no other patrons there. Little alarming and weird. That was a red flag. I scheduled a blowout, however, the stylist I had asked if I wanted to wash my hair, which was strange because isn't a blowout essentially washing, drying, and styling hair?? My stylist was very nice, but she definitely was a junior level stylist, if not, new. Second red flag: my stylist claimed she didn't know how to style her own hair (not sure if it was a joke, but I was taken aback by her comment). She washed my hair, (fine) but the blow dry took very long. It had to have been at least 40 minutes at this point. Now onto the styling part.. I wanted curls. I noticed she put A LOT of different product in, and kept saying to me how my hair gets very tangly- probably a result of the obnoxious amount of product that was put in my hair! She attempted to curl my hair, but my hair was not cooperating. She tried curling my hair with a straightener, didn't work. Then she tried a curling iron, that didn't work either. How is this possible??? The technique she was using to curl my hair was rather strange, and my hair was probably not curling because of the insane amount of product that was put in!! I was getting frustrated, and she was too. Now it's been over an hour. I also had to even give her a few pointers. She asked me if my hair is usually like this and I told her of course not. How can someone with fine hair not curl? I curl my hair at home with a curling wand (after washing my hair too) and it takes like 10 minutes. I was beyond frustrated, and she could tell. My hair at that point looked like I rolled out of bed. She told me she may have to start all over again, and wash and blow dry my hair. I will say this, she was definitely trying. But I was not about to spend two hours at a salon for a simple blowout- absolutely ridiculous. I was getting very anxious because it was late- I had things to do. She kept going to her boss for questions and tips, and then she finally brought him over to see if he could try. First off, he was incredibly rude. He made a ton of rude comments about my hair, making me feel like my hair was an inconvenience to them!! He asked me when did I last color my hair (in August), if I cut my hair recently (and I don't cut it very often but my hair isn't THAT long). He blamed me because my hair had "no shape" and it's "too long" and that I'm gonna haven't to get it straightened because "there's no other way". You're kidding me right? My hair wasn't curling because of the product and the fact that my stylist didn't really seem to know what she was doing. I even informed them that I had a great blowout two weeks ago- it took a half hour, and my hair came out beautiful. They were definitely taken aback by that;) It had been an hour and a half at this point. I didn't want her to straighten my hair- I could easily straighten my hair back at home. I wasn't about to spend any more time there and I was very angry. The stylist could tell. I ended up walking out!! I told her I can easily go back home and do my hair, and that I was not wasting any more time there- over an hour and half for absolutely NOTHING!!! My hair was COATED in product and it was a mess. I kindly let her know I was not paying for the services I received because honestly, who should? Her rude boss offered 50% off, so I ended up paying 25 dollars for an absolute shitshow. Amazing place. I lived around the corner and saw Amad for my haircuts for 2 years. Amad always took his time and made sure i was happy with my hair. The entire staff (especially Lindsay!) are extremely nice and personable. Definitely hit up Amaci if you're in Boston! read more
