Overall I had a great experience at Amal. I really liked the vibe. Very cool. very chill. Very nice decor. The service was also exceptional. From the host, to the bar, to the table service, ....everything was on point. Drinks were well done. There is better than average menu for cocktails and wine. The food menu is also interesting with many good options for appetizers and entrees. We ordered the sampler platter and the baba ganoush and the hummus were the stars, grapes leaves were decent. We ordered the kabobs for two. The pistachio encrusted one was my favorite, followed but the beef and chicken, which were a tie. Beautiful restaurant space with flavorful food. Was there Thursday night with a group of friends and ordered family style - the fattoush salad is a stand out, bursting with flavors. The fried zucchini was delicious, as were the hummus and babaganoush. I didn't find the seabass to be anything special, but others liked the beef tenderloin skewers. Middle eastern food is perhaps one of my favorites. I love it and jump at any chance to try a new restaurant serving this type of cuisine. So when a Lebanese friend of mine suggested we try it together last week, I was excited. Here are my impressions. THE GOOD - The ambience. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. It is bright and sunny. Lots of tropical plants create a calming atmosphere. - The presentation. The food is presented very well. I loved how the baba gnoush and the kibbeh looked on their serving platters. THE MEH - The service was ok. Nothing great. - The flavor. The kibbeh and baba gnoush were good. The hummus was ok. The chicken and lamb kabobs I got were a little dry and the portions were tiny. For what they cost, I would have anticipated slightly more. THE BAD - I was surprised to see lamb was not prominently featured throughout the menu as this is an essential part of middle eastern cuisine. You can get lamb chops (which are perhaps too large) or a skewer of ground lamb as part of another dish, but that lamb doesn't stand on its own. - The prices. The prices were typical of Miami. Inflated for what you get. The price and value were misaligned. TL; DR I was underwhelmed by Amal. It relies too much on the superficial and not enough on the substance. My Lebanese friend had a similar view. Amal would probably be fine if you don't have a well developed palate for middle eastern cuisine. If you do, you're going to be underwhelmed. If you care more about portion size, flavor, and high value for your money, I would suggest driving a little farther south to visit Shaddai Fine Lebanese cuisine as an alternative to Amal. read more

The drinks were delicious and we had great service from our bartender. We tried about 4 of their drinks and a lychee martini. It was one of the best lychee martinis I have had in a long time. We shared a few plates: kibbeh, hummus dip, baba ghanoush, truffle rakakat, and falafel. Everything we had was delicious. The truffle rakakat was the best thing we had! I returned to give this place another shot- my date took me and it was a much better experience in the evening. The server Asil was professional, polite, fast and accommodating. She truly provided grade A attention to detail. Main courses - Black cod, the fish was amazing, flavorful, fresh, perfectly cooked. Pistachio kabob was delicious, full flavored, perfect mixture of beef, lamb and pistachio. Pistachio ice cream was excellent without overwhelming with too much sweetness. A couple of comments - this would have been a 5 star rating except for: air conditioning doesn't have capacity for the space, it was warm; sauce with the black cod was too much, the fish was superb on it's own, the sauce actually took away from the outstanding fish; and the ran out of Baklava - this was early Sunday evening, how do you run out of your signature dessert? Amal is a revelation of culinary purity and strength, strength and culinary purity. A brilliant, Lebanese restaurant in Coconut Grove breathes fire and desire with a tantalizing array of course dishes that will heighten your senses and sharpen your tongue to where everything else will pale in comparison from here to kingdom come. I was unsure what to expect when I made my way to the glory that is Amal on Main Highway. My boss had reservations for the 18 of us, split between two tables, for an evening of intimate dining based on the low-lit ambiance, which was quite lovely and full of allure. Between the ambiance and the cuisine, I can see why people are a fan, such as my boss. The food is magical and scrumptious. The bottles of white and red wine my boss ordered for everyone were excellent and nicely complemented the dishes we enjoyed. Additionally, I ordered the Magenta, a nectarous blast of Tanqueray 10, ginger and lemon juices, lavender syrup, butterfly pea powder, Kensington aromatic bitters, and Fever Tree sparkling water. While not as sparkling as I anticipated, it was an exquisite gin-based cocktail that brought me to the appropriate place of comfort and clarity before the constant delivery of tapas and dishes began. And when I say the delivery of dishes was constant, I mean it. I'm sure we enjoyed half of the menu. We had the privilege of enjoying four courses worth of enticing eats that sent our palate into the stratosphere of culinary wonderment and wonder. The grape leaves and marinated olives were good starting items that allowed us to enjoy some light and citrus-brushed treats that turned our tongues and readied us for the first courses. The Mezze Sampler was quite the sample of baba ghanoush, hummus, and muhammara that was glorious with warm pita bread served. Between that and the Amal's Hummus, comprised of this glorious sauteed beef surrounded by more hummus, brought me to a place where I knew every dish would be glorious and good, good and glorious. Word to the wise; however, you want to ensure you don't fill up on hummus and bread because you will find yourself unable to eat anything else afterward. My favorite dishes from the first and second courses remained the Truffle Rakakat and the Octopus. The former consisted of a crispy fried shell drizzled with honey and a flavor explosion when combined with a slice of grape when you took a bite. The octopus was truly heavenly and full of hellacious happiness as that was cooked to perfection and served with turmeric potato, charred onions, and a delicious pepper relish... Perfection. I feel like I should say that again... Perfection. The Nabulsi Salad with solid -- I specifically enjoyed the avocado as it embraced me as its friend. The Makanek consisted of savory house-made beef sausages, with pomegranate molasses, and lingered on my palate. The Falafel was breaded and fried terrifically, as well as quite filling. The Roasted Cauliflower was cooked well, but I found the green tahini to be a tad too citrusy. With the third course, we received a gorgeous skewer platter that consisted of pistachio kababs, chicken tawok, beef tenderloin, and tiger shrimp; all served with this creamy, delish garlic sauce and some green sauce that, while I couldn't quite pinpoint the flavor was certainly savory. But the garlic sauce was divine to the number nine, especially when you combined it with either the beef tenderloin or tiger shrimp. My mouth was a place of titillating tantalization from the explosion of culinary completeness of the dishes the Amal servers provided throughout the evening. I had a bite of the Mistkeh ice cream, creamy and nutty, thanks partly to the pistachio encrustation. The cotton candy served on top looked more like shavings of halva than some cloud-like concoction that you would find at a county fair -- but I found it very good. I was giddy but full. I was surprised I didn't have to be wheelbarrowed to the curb following the meal's ultimate conclusion. There was so much goodness to be had, but this was not my first rodeo. I assured myself at the beginning that I would take small portions so I could enjoy the full sampling of the evening's meal without descending into a pure food coma from which there may be no return. The exquisite food was the exemplary service that was bar none, some of the best I have experienced, especially for a large party that we had. Our wine and water glasses were constantly filled, and they ensured we had everything we needed, from utensils to napkins to whether we needed our plates cleared once it looked like we had finished one of the courses of dishes we had eaten. They were there without being overly there in a Chevy Belair. It was as if they knew when we were ready to have our plates cleared or if we needed something in particular. I wouldn't go as far as to say psychic, but the servers at Amal were excellent. Amal should be on your list to embark on a culinary journey. read more

Delicious Lebanese food! Came here for my birthday and absolutely loved it! We ordered the crispy egg plant zucchini which was amazing! The Muhammara had such great flavor and the batata harrah was yummy! As my entree I ordered the chicken Tawok which is basically a chicken kabob without the stick. It came with a salad on the side, garlic yogurt on top of some pita bread. 10/10! Kefta kabob looked delicious also, although I didn't taste it. For dessert we got the assorted baklava. I have a minor obsession with baklava so I knew this was a must for me! We also ordered the date cake which was also good but not 100% my favorite. The ambience was beautiful. This was originally why I wanted to come here because it was aesthetically pleasing lol but I was also craving middle eastern cuisine. I came here for dinner with the fam and it did not disappoint! The interior is so cute and trendy with every table having different options of seating. The space was very open with high ceilings and large glass doors that they opened up later in the night. I started with the guava slay, but replaced the reposado with Tito's. It was delicious! We then moved onto a Lebanese red wine. The service was very good. The wait staff was always ready to take our order and when we were ready to order wine, the sommelier came to our table immediately. This is what we ordered: -baba ganoush -truffle rakakat -Amal's hummus -lamb chops -tiger shrimps -date cake All of the dishes were very tasty and had a nice sauce - I love a good sauce! You have to order the garlic hot sauce on the side. Every dish came on a beautiful plate and even the plates that were served for eating on were so nice with elegant designs. Bad experience. We went for my wife's 26th birthday. Our reservation was for 8:30, we were seated at 8:48, brought water at 9, and finally given the menus at 9:18. No apologies or explanation. We then recieved our appetizers and within 4 minutes of that our entrees were served. We had to choose which dish we wanted to eat cold at that point Finally, after 30 minutes between finishing our entree and being served dessert, I realized my dessert was a mousse rather than the ice cream that I ordered. I got up to find the waiter, who then told me this was no mistake, they ran out of ice cream so this was the "chefs choice" I left the mousse uneaten on my plate, but it was still charged on our final bill and not taken off. I came by with my friend Michelle this past Saturday to catch and hang out for tasty bites. We'd heard about the great new restaurants in Coconut Grove and picked Amal for yummy variety. It had been a minute since we'd hung out and we made a great choice. From the food to the attentive service, Amal is definitely a must try! For fellow Miami history buffs, it is located in the lobby of an office building located where Senor Frogs used to be. We spent some time reminiscing about favorite Grove spots from back in the day. The attentive service started before we arrived, since they were able to shift our rezy a little later. Even though there was a little bit of a wait after we got there, I enjoyed my Guava Slay customized to rum instead of tequila. Kristen, our waitress, was an absolute rockstar! She was friendly, helpful with her recommendations and accommodating my custom order and pleasant in conversation with us. She even mentioned their upcoming rooftop bar and potential brunch (shhh, surprise). Besides the warm and fluffy pita bread we started with at the bar and our table dinner started with their three dipping sauce plate of a double hummus and the slightly sweet cinnamon goodness of muhammara (red pepper, spices and walnuts). Our main were the beef and the chicken skewers. Along with a peppers, tangy onions and fresh tomatoes both cuts of meat were delicious by themselves. Try dipping them in the hummus or sriracha ketchup too! Speaking of ketchup and perhaps in a reminisce of the earlier fries, make sure to try their spicy fries. Perfectly crispy and tasty. Falafel was another yummy side dish before enjoying dessert that almost looked too beautiful to eat. At first I was a little iffy if we would be waiting hours with bad service due to how "trendy" and packed the restaurant and bar was. I had been a little down due to a doggy death in the family. Like the good Yelp buddy that he is, Sergio wanted to cheer me up! We quickly found a spot at the bar and they were accommodating to our reservation. The Guava Slay cocktail caught my eye and it was fantastic! Sergio changed it to rum and it tasted like candy! For starters, their hummus is a must! Heavenly hummus I may add. It is the creamiest wow. Pretty amazing. The falafels and house fries with special seasonings were good as well. The cauliflowers order looked amazing to try for next time. For main dishes it was chicken and beef skewers! Nicely prepared. Love all the Lebanese flavors. The real stars were the desserts. A chocolate mousse and date cake that will have you thinking about them for days. Trust you must order. I wanted to try the baklava but didn't get around to it this time. The service at the beginning was a little slow, but it was busy so I'll let is pass plus our server was nice. Ever since this opened I knew that I had to try it ! Since they are from the Byblos family. It is located in Coconut Grove. Went with some friends on a Thursday and it was super busy. The food was delicious. What stood out was the cauliflower dish. The batata harra was okay. I have had better batata harra. The appetizer trio was a winner! Loved the fresh pita that came with it. Went to Amal from brunch on a Saturday and it didn't disappoint! First of all, the place is beautiful. I love the vibes and the roomy tables. Clean single bathrooms too, which I appreciate. We came with our one year old son and all the servers were so accommodating and sweet, which sometimes can be rare when you take a toddler to a nice establishment. We ordered the kibbeh, truffle rakakat, zucchini herb omelette, and the pancakes, along with a mocktail and cocktail. I gotta say, everything was delicious! The only thing that disappointed me was the zucchini omelette. I wanted to love this, but maybe it's the pregnancy hormones or something took over my palate that after taking a bite I almost got sick at the table. Just not for me at all (secretly wish it was compted from the bill because we left the whole thing). The kibbeh was VERY good, my son couldn't get enough. The pancakes had an orange/citrus flavor which is totally up my alley. The truffle rakakat, I don't even know what to say, JUST ORDER IT because it was definitely the star of the meal. My mocktail was the mule, really good! And my husband got a cucumber type cocktail which he enjoyed (really the only downfall there is the $21 price tag, which is such a let down...really way too expensive). Overall a great experience! Amal is a beautiful restaurant that opened in May 2022 in coconut grove. Reservations are hard to come by - we "scored" a 6 pm on a Friday, and the place was full. Incredibly delicious meal with equally fantastic service. We ordered: - roasted cauliflower (must have!) - every table had it - baba Ganoush - creamy heavenly amazing - Sujuc - delicious but I'd say not very special (dry sausage in tomato sauce) - kofte kebab - tasty - desert made from dates - unique and gorgeous! The restaurant is a bit on a pricey side and they do add 18 percent automatic gratuity (pretty standard in miami). I wish they were forthcoming with it (like Abbale in Miami Beach who tell you so you are aware). Credit card machine kept asking "are you sure you don't want to add a tip" after they they already added 18 percent (made me feel guilty and confused). They really need to remove it as it's unnecessary pressure that leaves a bad taste in the mouth. I still give it 5 stars. Great experience! read more

Lebanese food is always a delicious and generally light/healthy dining option. Arrived late for an 830pm reservation and were seated at a high top. The ambiance was similar to that of Ilili (NY & DC locations) and expected a similar culinary experience. Our waitress was super slammed as the restaurant was full so we made sure to order drinks and appetizers as soon as she arrived. We started with the sampler (baba ghannouch, hummus, garlic labneh), grape leaves and tabouleh. We held off on entrees until we had our drink order in. For our main, we went with the skewers for 2 which included 2 pistachio kabobs (ground beef & lamb), one skewer of chicken and one skewer of beef. All of the skewers were delicious and the meat was super tender. We opted for rice instead of potatoes. For dessert we finished with the date cake which was fabulous! The pecan crumble was heaven and out of this world! Overall a 4.5/5 and highly recommended!!
