I had been excited to try Amal for years. I actually worked in the neighborhood when they were building it during the pandemic, then moved away and never got the chance to go until now. For context, I worked in fine dining in New York and Miami for almost 20 years, so I notice the details immediately, hospitality, management presence, the energy of a room. You can usually tell pretty quickly what kind of operation you're dealing with. We were a party of five. I arrived with my four-year-old son and was greeted warmly by the hostess. That warmth ended instantly. Standing directly behind her were two managers in suits blocking the main entrance. Both looked straight at me and my child and said absolutely nothing. No hello, no smile, no acknowledgment. Anyone in hospitality knows that moment sets the tone. As an Arab woman who grew up around a culture where hospitality is everything, it was already a bad sign. We were seated outside and the vibe stayed cold. Unfortunately, the food matched it. We ordered a lot because I genuinely wanted to give the kitchen a fair shot. I grew up eating Lebanese food and what stood out most was the lack of soul. Everything felt flat, like it needed salt, lemon, brightness, that warm Mediterranean seasoning Lebanese food is known for. The tabouli was especially shocking. A $20+ tabouli with no bulgur that was so roughly chopped it was basically whole parsley leaves and slices of onion. Any Lebanese auntie would die at the sight of it. At one point I asked our server if they had harissa or any kind of spicy sauce. She said the only option was Sriracha. In a Lebanese restaurant that charges $18 for a tablespoon of hummus. An Asian chili sauce as the only option. What made it even stranger is that harissa is listed on multiple dishes on the menu, so it clearly exists somewhere in the building. I asked for the Sriracha anyway out of desperation for flavor. It never came. Same with ketchup for my toddler's fries, it took three requests. Throughout the meal I walked around the restaurant several times taking my son to the bathroom, looking around the space, even going upstairs to the lounge. Not a single person acknowledged us. Not a host, not a server, not a manager. The bar is right by the entrance and every time we looked over at the bartender and bar manager, just blank stares. At one point we were clearly standing there confused looking for the bathroom in an empty restaurant and still had to say "Excuse me, where is the bathroom?" Wild. Later I walked up to the bar myself to ask if they carried mezcal. After dinner I went back to order one. Same energy--zero warmth, zero engagement. And this is with an automatic 20% gratuity already on the bill. The mezcal was a $25 two-ounce pour and I still had to ask for an orange slice garnish because no one offered it. Empty bar, two people behind it, and I still had to request it. Also worth noting, our reservation was at 5:45pm and the restaurant was practically empty. Yet I didn't see a single manager walking the floor, greeting tables, or checking on guests. I had talked this place up to my party because I'd been so curious about it for years, and it was honestly a huge letdown. If you know Lebanese food and understand Middle Eastern warmth and hospitality, this probably isn't the place for you. Expect cold, almost nonexistent hospitality and food that feels stripped of the soul that makes Lebanese cuisine special. The space is beautiful. I'll give them that. Everything else felt like a very on-brand Miami disappointment, what happens when you give people a beautiful restaurant, expensive food, automatic gratuity, and no leadership. From the lack of authenticity and attention to detail, it's hard to believe anyone truly Lebanese is behind this operation. If anything, it feels more like a polished money grab. Honestly, it might have been less jarring if they just called themselves "Mediterranean" like so many other places in this city. But if you're going to call yourself a Lebanese restaurant, the culture and hospitality should actually be there. read more

This was by far not my first time visiting Amal, but this was likely my last. Here's why: we came in on an early Sunday afternoon for some cocktails, the restaurant was largely empty. We got our cocktails, had them, then waited for the check for about 15-20 minutes. After paying, I went to the restroom and came back to finalize our plans. Five minutes later the host, an older gentleman, approached our table and asked us to leave under the pretense that another party was waiting for the table. Hint hint: as we were leaving there was no other party and plenty of empty tables. We weren't lounging around, didn't order just water, weren't wearing flip flops and wrinkly t-shirts or really doing anything unsavory. We came in during brunch hours to a largely unoccupied restaurant, ordered items of interest and then were asked to leave the premises an hour later. I've been to restaurants ranging from cheap buffets that will give you a new strain of E. Coli to Michelin star spots. Even when these restaurants were slammed I have NEVER been asked to leave, even if there was a dedicated two hour reservation window. I think that is incredibly classless, rude and a great opportunity to revisit some basic rules of hospitality. read more

Great Lebanese place. While I'm generally not a fan of middle eastern or Mediterranean cuisines - not a fan of the over reliance on heavy aromatic spices that take over dishes, this place has managed to strike a balance of all those flavors by serving the meats along side the veggie garnishes, but not necessarily mixed with them. The place and ambiance are nice, but nothing remarkable, just appropriate for the price point and Grove location - it's going to be a pricey experience. Their ice tea is VERY aromatic - if you prefer traditional green tea flavor, as I do, their tea is not for you. If you are crazy about weird aromatic flavors such as bitter lavender in places they shouldn't be (not saying there's lavender in their brew), their tea will be orgasmic for you. It's an explosion of flower power I only like in flower arrangements. It's the typical putting of rose water on baklava - you might as well spray Channel #5 on it and still call it dessert. Fragrances have a place in perfumes, not in food - at least not for me. Speaking of their baklava, it was 'barely' OK, and at $16 for a tiny serving, it'd say it's subpar, very dry (vs the typical chewy nutty center drenched in honey) - it's just not a dish I'd recommend from them at entree prices; or really at any price that's beyond $9/10. For dessert, they have a date cake (their most popular), which is actually yummy, go for that - it's a better way to spend your $16 on a dessert and will actually be satisfying - their baklava is like a dry Cuban pastelito with a smear of honey over it. The meat entrees were all delicious. Their fries were good, and made a good side to the meats. Their pita bread was QUITE GUMMY and hard to get through and could potentially damage your molars. Their octopus was 'meh' at best - they try to make its suckers crispy, but it instead it ends overcooking such a delicate meat and it becomes 'gummy'. We ordered 2 servings and the first one was not just over cooked, but gummy, bitter and with an unpleasant 'gamey' after taste that everyone noticed. The second serving thankfully lacked the bitterness and gamey taste, but still gummy and over cooked. Expect to pay a minimum of $200 for a couple's night out, specially if you like your cocktails and desserts. Service was excellent and attentive, as you'd expect when paying these prices - albeit price point is rarely ever a guarantee of good service. Below I post Just one of the meat kebabs dishes, they look like 't@rds' (apologies for the graphic description), but were delicious; personally I only found them second in flavor to the shrimp in the big meat platter, which were 'big jumbo' (redundancy intended) shrimps, cooked decently and very flavorful. I came here for the Miami spice brunch that was $35 per person. They had a beautiful spread for all you can eat items that included hummus fruits, different pastries, different dips including labneh. In addition to that there is a variety of items that you can order for breakfast. Each person gets to order one entrée I got their pancake, which I thought were pretty mediocre. They weren't anything special. The buffet portion was really good. I really enjoyed their pastries. they had a lot of flavor. There was a wide variety and this was a good option for people that are vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian. The service was pretty good. With the breakfast, they don't let you take anything with you other than the entrée. The hostess was very friendly and sat us at a spacious table were are whole party fit and even was able to accommodate an extra guest. The waitress was also very nice. We had the pleasure of enjoying the Miami Spice brunch at Amal Restaurant, and it was truly a beautiful experience. The space is stunning, and the host's welcome was impeccable. There was a live trio playing, and they were excellent--such a nice touch that elevated the atmosphere. Our reservation was for 2:00 p.m., and we were seated around 2:20 p.m. We were given a table with a mix of chairs and a booth; I personally found the booth a bit uncomfortable, so I wouldn't recommend that option. That said, the restaurant's décor, layout, and overall ambiance are fantastic. Even though the main A/C was out of service, they managed to resolve it perfectly with additional units--temperature was just right and we felt comfortable the entire time. The buffet presentation was exceptional, and the food itself was flavorful, colorful, and very tempting. I ordered the Salmon lox, and while the salmon and cream were both delicious, the pancake-like base underneath was a bit too thick and hard to cut. My husband had eggs that were wonderfully cooked, and the potatoes were absolutely delicious. We also enjoyed a bottle of Jerman Pinot Grigio wine, which was excellent and fairly priced at $60. Desserts were a highlight--served in small portions, allowing us to try several different bites, each one delightful. Service overall was kind and attentive, though it did take a while for empty plates to be cleared. Our main server was polite and very professional, but some of the assistants didn't quite meet the same standard. Amal is a Lebanese restaurant with beautiful presentation, bold flavors, and a truly pleasant ambiance. The crowd was great, and they even offered us cocktails upstairs on the terrace while we waited for our table--another nice detail. Overall, this is definitely a place I would return to. Came here with friends for Miami Spice on a Sunday morning. First off, I have to rave about how beautiful this place is - very Bohemian chic with plenty of natural light. It's stunning. Bravo to whoever designed the place. Our server presented their buffet menu ($55) and pushed pretty heavy on that. We had to ask for the Miami Spice menu, which wasn't at the table. I will say, buffet elements ended up getting worked into the Miami Spice offering (for apps and desserts), so it worked out nicely, especially because it boasts a nice spread. For my main dish, I ordered the Shakshouka, which wasn't overly spicy as the menu implies. It is on the smoky side though. We all shared the Truffle Rakakat, which was delicious -- definitely something worth ordering as an add-on to the Spice menu if you go that route. My friends enjoyed their alcoholic beverages and I savored my iced latte. There are many options to choose from at the buffet for dessert so it's worth trying as many as your belly can hold. We visited Amal for a family dinner and it was exceptional. The decor is beautiful and the food was amazing. We ordered various appetizers so we could taste a few items and none disappointed. The amal hummus was delicious with small pieces of meat in the center topped with a sauce that made it taste like heaven! The grape leaves were not my favorite but they were not bad. I grew up in a Lebanese household so this was a tough one to beat the homemade version. The kibbeh naye was on point as was the regular fried Kibbeh. The fried Kibbeh could be a little bigger, but they were good. The lamb shank was out of this world delicious as was the cinnamon rice it's served with. Highly recommend this dish and it's big enough for 2 to share. The pistacchio kafta was also very good. There was definitely no room for dessert for any of us. We paired all of the meal with a great bottle of wine, 1847 Cabernet Sauvignon, the cheapest one we found on the menu and it was excellent. The wines are on the expensive side. There is self parking right next door but I think they also offer valet parking. They have a side patio area which is really nice, when the weather is cool in Miami, would not recommend sitting outside on a typical hot, humid Miami day. Also want to shout out to our server Sara who was beyond amazing, tending to our table continuously and all of her suggestions delivered. All around great food, ambiance and great service. I went to this restaurant for a commerce networking event. It was very classy and they had a live band playing. There was a selected drink menu to choose from and my twin sister and I had the grove. Franco and Jose are the bartenders that took care of us and they were really talented and sweet. We met a lot of nice people and the atmosphere was very welcoming. I can see how summers might be hot if they leave all the windows open as I see in other reviews. There are plenty of reviews of the food, but my issue when making my reservation was with seating. So let me explain it. There are low and high top tables inside, bar seating, and two areas outside. One patio is basically the sidewalk next to the street and the other patio is along the side of the restaurant. After looking at both the outside seating areas, I'd choose the side patio as it's a little quieter and not next to the street/sidewalk. My first visit to Amal was for a dimly lit dinner, but my most memorable visit was for my coming-out party. At that brunch, my friends reminded me that I was too straight to be believed. I replied that I now identified as Lebanese and wanted to celebrate my transition. This all stemmed from the final line in my 23andMe results. Lebanese = 1% My plan was to join a local Lebanese community. Thanks to the Latin American diaspora, I wouldn't need to learn a new language and could keep speaking Spanish. My breakfast bros, always quick with solutions, suggested I just visit Amal whenever I felt especially Levantine. If you only order one dish during brunch, make it the Za'atar Man'ouche; oven-fresh lavash rubbed with a pesto-like blend of roasted sesame, fragrant olive oil, and a dank mix of herbs. If you go for two, the Seared Halloumi pairs beautifully with the aforementioned flatbread and comes with a Greek salad. And if you're feeling ambitious and order three, enjoy the Shakshouka; eggs poached in an Arrabbiata-style sauce with plenty of bread ammo to attack it with. I started with Amal's Hummus during my dinner visit, accented with a tart touch of pomegranate. I rationed it carefully to savor throughout the meal. I'm convinced the Pistachio Kebab is the final exam for new cooks at Amal. The lamb and beef blend must be grilled thoroughly yet remain juicy, while the nutty Dukkah rub needs to toast without burning. It pairs best with a pre-dessert, palate-cleansing cocktail. Imagine Bad Bunny on a yacht gondola, a yondala, surrounded by fans twerking through the Grand Venetian canal. That's the Passion Blossom cocktail. The Aperol, vodka, passionfruit juice, and date sizzurp combo hits every part of your palate with sweet, sour, and zesty beats. Follow it up with a purple drank topped with a matching orchid. The seasonal version of the Lebanese 75 uses gin, bubbly wine, and Saint Germain as a base, with fruits as the finisher. If cocktails aren't your jam, well-crafted mocktails and a Phoenician Pilsner put the Bae in Beirut. If I were blindfolded, as I often am, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between Amal's Date Cake and Sticky Toffee Pudding. While my brain tried to sort out the subtle differences, the rest of me just wanted more. Thanks to the Dubai chocolate craze, Kanafeh is hot right now. This OG version layers crispy semolina with silky cheese and a drizzle of rosewater. Though my server proclaimed that Rony is actually a common Lebanese name, I never took to smoking shisha. There's also a painful logistical problem with the abundant chest hair and gold chain look. So, I'll leave being Lebanese to the professionals while I keep enjoying their food and beverage culture. read more

We came as a large party for a Sunday brunch during our trip to Miami. The ambiance of the restaurant is very nice and upscale, with lots of real plants surrounding us. Service was good and they were constantly coming by to refill my water glass, so it was never empty. We shared all of the food family style. We got Hummus with pita, Fattoush, Truffle Rakakat, House Pancakes, Shakshouka, and Lebanese Zucchini Herb Omelette. I really enjoyed the Fattoush which had this amazing vinaigrette and crispy fried pita on top. The pancakes were very fluffy. My favorites were the Truffle Rakakat which had a savory, smoky taste and the Shakshouka which was so flavorful and spicy. I could pop 10 of those Rakakats next time! read more

Our second time at Amal and once again we went with the tasting menu -- it's the best way to experience the restaurant. From the moment you walk in, the space feels like a luxury hotel: elegant and soaring high ceilings that make a lasting impression. Throughout dinner, you'll catch live entertainment like fire performers, drummers, and dancers moving through the restaurant -- almost like dining at a Disney World (in the best way). Our meal started with cocktails. Old fashioned, and French 75. Both solid, especially the uniquely spiced old fashioned. Then we moved to the food, starting with a trio of dips: hummus, baba ghanoush, and muhammara (the red pepper one with crushed walnuts). These are always a hit -- paired with fresh pita. A fattoush salad is also served along side, topped with crispy pita chips that are freshly fried. Next comes the pistachio-crusted halloumi, lightly fried and drizzled with honey -- think of it as an upscale, Mediterranean mozzarella stick with a nutty twist. The grilled octopus was a standout -- smoky, tender, and perfectly charred. (A new addition since our last visit.) The main course brought a trio of meats: lamb kofta, chicken shish tawook, and steak, served with seasoned rice, vegetables, French fries, and sauce on the side. All solid, but the lamb stole the show. Dessert was a house baklava topped with pistachios and ice cream. While it looked great, the interior was a bit too firm and didn't quite match the level of the rest of the meal. Food was great, especially the kafta kabab platter, EXCEPT they were out of tabouli, weird for a Lebanese restaurant. Service was just ok, the waiter seemed to be put out by a few simple requests. I'm giving them three stars because when we were presented with the bill, we were LIED to about the service charge, that clearly was a tip, but the waiter told us that we could add another tip that was for him as if he would not get any of the money from the service charge. I've seen this behavior rampant in Florida before it's deceptive at best and completely dishonest. read more

We were so excited to try Amal for our anniversary dinner. The good: the location and garden area. The resturant is beautiful. The meal was nothing special. The bread wasn't warm, we asked for warm bread and it took about 20 minutes to arrive and it wasn't even that good. (Go to Motek instead). The salad was ok, and the our dinners were fair. Not a lot of spice or taste. Service was sporadic and our server seemed uninterested and never bothered to ask how anything was. We didn't bother with dessert and went elsewhere. It doesn't compare to Motek or Aviv. read more

Was skeptical about trying this place my brother made reservations at after seeing the menu. Didn't really look appealing to me. I was thinking small portions vibe. WOW was I mistaken! The amount of food you get is abundant. We had the hummus sampler and baba ghanoush to start. They were freakin' delicious! The homemade pita bread that came with it was pillowy soft and delicious. I had the beef tenderloin kabab. Forgot to photograph. Was too excited to eat! It was very tender and tasty. We ordered the basmati rice for the table. It was fragrant and delicious. The dining room was very beautiful. Our waiter was attentive and accommodating. Would definitely go back there the next time I'm in Miami. read more
