We decided to check this place out for lunch the following day, after going to Amalfi Cucina Italiana, located upstairs. Service was great as well. Food is the opposite though. We decided to go their fish and chips for my wife, and I decided to go with their Crispy Shrimp and Pineapple Tacos Special. Nothing special about it. It was served with old lettuce and spinach which a lot were slimy with black ends. We were surprised how the fish and chips were just served with ketchup packets. We asked for tartar sauce and any kind of sauce. However, sauce doesn't exist for their fish and chips. The hard taco shell for my "special" Pineapple Tacos were kind of stale as well. Similar to the "Crispy" Shrimp, very not so Crispy with bland flavor. The place is located by the lake. There were a lot of birds trying to get into people's food. However, Very nice view of the lake. The staff didn't make a big deal with our infant's stroller, similar to the restaurant upstairs. The place was nice and staff were friendly and outgoing. The food would be the reason why we wouldn't go back here. Maybe just for the drinks since they have their own Amalfi Beers. I ordered their Blonde Ale, which was refreshing and delicious. This spot is amazing. I've dined here many times, and it never disappoints. I stopped in on a Monday after kayaking and a little staycation at The Lakehouse, and it was the perfect way to unwind. Happy hour runs from 3-6 PM, and I grabbed a great craft IPA from Burgeon for just $6! I didn't notice any food items on the happy hour menu, but I ordered the: *Polpette All'Italiana: comes with three flavorful meatballs and two large slices of bread, which is perfect for soaking up all that delicious sauce. The restaurant has two distinct vibes. Upstairs leans more toward fine dining, while downstairs is a fun sports bar atmosphere, which is where I dined at this time. There are TVs around the bar for games (they had the Padres on), plus tables along the wooden fence overlooking the lake if you want a more scenic, relaxed spot. You can also sit right at the bar if you're in more of a social mood. The servers are awesome, friendly and attentive, Overall, it's such an enjoyable place to hang out. We decided to eat here last minute. They were super busy with holiday parties but they accommodated us quickly. We sat outside and it was really nice. Started with calamari and it was delicious! The gnocchi special was out but the regular gnocchi was great. Also got a meatball. Our server was awesome and we had a wonderful time. We tried two items on the weekly specials: surf 'n turf appetizer (bone marrow, jumbo red shrimp, burrata and toasted bread) and risotto with scallop, truffle and caviar. Both were good. Full-size or half size pasta portions available...I recommend full-size even for elementary aged kids because the full portion size isn't that big. Bread is extra cost (standard bread, nothing fancy)...only $3 but kind of a silly charge considering that this is not a cheap restaurant so could have easily offered a simple but complimentary bread service. Such a great place it has a beautifuly decorated dining room for formal dining overlooking the water and the bar area downstairs. You can watch the game. There are TVs on one side of the bar. Or sit away in quiet place by the fountain right on the water. The food is excellent and the portions are huge. I recommend sharing. I feel like three dishes can feed 5-6 people. The wine price very reasonably. The service is very friendly. We ordered meatballs. They were excellent. Burrata appetizer was huge, it came on two plates with four big pieces of toast, topped with cheese, tomatoes, and basil. It was delicious. The pork sandwich with consume was excellent with general side of fries and arugula salad served on a perfectly toasted baguette. Hidden gem in San Marcos it's definitely one of my favorite places to look at a great view while enjoying a great meal. The downstairs bar usually isn't too busy, you can usually find a seat. Sitting by the water is such a cool treat and occasionally you'll see black swans in the lake. The service has always been great and friendly. The drinks are always perfect, and they have bottomless mimosas on Sunday during brunch! Food has always been great, everything I've had I've always enjoyed. They have a huge menu that'll satisfy anyone. The sandwiches are great, the salads are fresh and the portions are large. The pizza is a popular choice here but just a note they do NOT have ranch here. Overall a great beautiful spot to check out, it's definitely worth visiting for the view alone. read more

My friend Toby P has reviewed this place and said she liked it more than upstairs at Amalfi. So on a hot day it seemed a fun place to try to try to keep cool for drinks. It was stuffier even on the patio than the street at first! But we got a good breeze from the water about halfway through our meal. They don't have happy hour specials here, because they are so popular that they don't need them. But as Toby said, the food is more reasonably priced downstairs. I got a Hugo spritz which was very refreshing. I also got the beyond burger, which was very tasty and a big plate. It had french fries and crispy potato skins, along with an arugula salad. Surprisingly the arugula salad was underseasoned and bland. but everything else was very tasty. I wish there was more of a breeze today, but it was still very nice and the service was great. I stood at the front for 5 minutes while 7 employees (5 all cleaning one empty table) looked at me at various times without addressing my presence. I felt like eating elsewhere, but my group wanted to stay. -You can't park in their lot unless you want to pay $7 valet parking. You have to find street parking, but there is only enough space for about 7 cars on the street. read more

This is a total hidden gem in North county. The Amalfi Marina bar is just below the Amalfi Italian restaurant on Lake San Marcos and is open air with heaters if you are cold. From watching the water feature out in the lake to the gondolas and black and white swans it is really relaxing. Everything I have tried here is really good. The Eggplant Parmigiana, meatballs, wood fired pizzas and the roasted artichoke, goat cheese and olive salad are my favorites. The wine and beer list is very substantial and they have a full bar.
