I came to the Green Dragon for a lunch event so we had our own dining space set up. We had a buffet which was good food for a buffet. We had chicken breasts, veggies & Shepherds Pie The servers were staying on top of the trays as the food was getting low. Some of us went in to the bar for drinks which seemed to take awhile as there was only 1 bartender. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Enormous restaurant with a few private dining space options for large parties.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

The Green Dragon Tavern in Carlsbad, CA, is a replica named after the historic Green Dragon Tavern in Boston, Massachusetts. The original Boston tavern, which stood in the North End until 1854, was famously known as the "Headquarters of the Revolution." It served as a secret meeting place for Founding Fathers like Samuel Adams, Paul Revere, and the Sons of Liberty to plan events such as the Boston Tea Party. That being said the food here is very Boston. Think lobstahhh, clam chowder and new American classics like brussel sprouts and wedge salads. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a casual place and there is an upstairs for giant parties (30+).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Parking is ample and free. The museum is a large room with artifacts and info. It's free and a great place to read and learn something. Located near the outlets/Windmill in Coastal Carlsbad.

Green Dragon has become a birthday tradition dinner stop for us. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The New England theme is enriched by the attached museum and makes it feel even more homey.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We enjoy the detached dining area were there are plenty of booth seats and appreciate the often almost private dining experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff is usually very friendly and accommodating. The cocktails are always top notch and we've enjoyed just about every meal we had at Green Dragon from the delicious garlic knots with Marinara, the flaky turkey pot pie, the potato crusted cod, and Mac and cheese (with or without protein). We definitely recommend this as a most visit to experience some New England vibes and look forward to the next chance to visit.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Interesting Environment, very England/American inspired setting. You got that brick walls, historic vibes which makes it a fun unique spot for lunch or dinner if you are feeling adventurous.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We got the chicken wings, super juicy and flavorful a burger w/fries and their pretzel rolls. Food service was great, very attentive. If you're in the area, this is one of those gems to try out.

We were wrapping up a long day at Legoland and since we were staying at the Legoland California Hotel we were looking at the menus online for the various restaurants in the hotels in Legoland. Looking at the high prices they were asking for what could very well be so-so quality dishes, I started having flash backs of the nearby Windmill food hall we ate at the evening before with just okay food in the midst of all the noise and chaos of kids running around. It was just like the scene in the movie Raising Arizona when Glen and Dot show up to Hi and Edwina's trailer with their rug rats and they're just tearing the place up. Anyway, the previous evening we were thinking about the Green Dragon Tavern for dinner but since I was driving when the suggestion was made, I thought a "tavern" atmosphere was going to be like a sports bar and might be too loud and not toddler friendly so I told my wife I'd pass on it but on this day, I had a chance to look at some pictures of the inside of the Green Dragon Tavern and it was a far cry from what I had in my mind the day before. Since it was a Saturday evening and I didn't know what things were like at that restaurant on a weekend evening so I decided not to take a chance and made a reservation through Google/Opentable. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Turns out when we arrived at 5:15pm it wasn't like that madhouse atmosphere of the food hall the night before but instead it was a really nice looking restaurant with plenty of parking and a gorgeous building and inside it was just as nice looking with a very peaceful and clean vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Honestly I was surprised that there weren't more people dining there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server was a young gentleman named Jason. He really communicated the dining options well with us and allowing my wife and I to split the salad into separate plates at no additional charge plus he hooked each of our plates up with grated cheese on the side even though that particular salad didn't come with it and we just asked if it would be okay to add it on. We ordered the Connecticut lobster roll, the grilled shrimp taco, Wagyu beef slider, mussels, sweet potato fries, a cup of clam chowder, the house salad and chocolate lava cake for dessert. EVERYTHING we ordered was delicious! I was actually amazed at how much we got for the price especially with the grilled shrimp tacos because the day before we had a pollo asada quesadilla from the food hall across the street for $16 which was pretty mediocre all the while the shrimp tacos here at Green Dragon Tavern were stuffed with shrimp and just massive! The dining experience here capped our Carlsbad/Legoland trip off on such a positive note. I told our friends who were going to come to Legoland the next weekend to stop by the Green Dragon Tavern for dinner instead of going anywhere else and I'm telling the same thing to anyone who's reading this review to do likewise.

Good service, great food. I got the fish and chips and they were absolutely delicious. The green dragon was super refreshing, very much a cucumber vibe and not very sweet. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We have sat both inside and outside, and both times were pleasant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Dogs allowed on the patio, they even brought us a bowl of water for our pups.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Food came out at a decent time, they were kind enough to provide containers for us to take home sauces.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Interesting spot. Cool history and museum plus a restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I like that that have plenty of seating so no need for a reservation.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Menu is pretty expansive, so you'll definitely find lots of options. Food was good. Nothing memorable. I had the wedge salad which was plenty filling. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall I'd say this is a decent restaurant with lots of space so if you have a bigger party it could be a good option.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Stay Cheerful

Delicious food! Great service too. We had a wonderful experience. The service was great and very attentive. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We came when they opened and sat in the patio with our dogs. They brought them a water dish and moved the umbrella for us for more shade[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. We were the only guests on the patio and they checked on us regularly. The food was fresh and made well. Cooked to perfection.

This review is for their event space, since I have not dined in the restaurant. I have been to this location several times for different events. It's always well appointed and the staff is very helpful and nice. They have had set up with the water station that iced tea and other items available self serve. The events I've gone to have had a bar with several choices of beer, wine and soft drinks. The food I've had on these occasions has been very good small, upscale, flavorful bites. The items have definitely made want to return for a full meal and the menu is very approachable. The only thing that could use improvement is that some of the trays ended up empty on all occasions and were not replaced right away. Otherwise everything was very good.

We came here for a weekend dinner. We made a reservation just in case but it wasn't super busy, so we could have walked in. Since we got here a little later in the day, we didn't get to check out the museum. There are some exhibits, paintings and information in the dining hall itself. I think I expected this to be more museum like, but the dining space was modern, neither a tavern, nor a museum. The food was ok. We got a red wine and a cucumber based cocktail, the sesame calamari for an appetizer and the jambalaya and Connecticut lobster roll for entrees. The jambalaya was very good. The calamari was interesting - not too fried and accompanied by tempura veggies. The veggies were honestly more tasty than the calamari. The lobster roll was not good. The lobster was dry and pretty bland by itself. The Connecticut version was warm. The bread seemed too thick and no amount of lemon or butter seemed to add any flavor. We paid a pretty penny for everything and the food was just average, so this wasn't a great culinary experience. Our server was nice. There are better dining options in the area, so we will not return.

It's odd to find a historic restaurant in the city of Carlsbad, but yet one exists and not only a restaurant but a museum and that would be the green dragon. We had lunch today with some friends, and they were truly blown away by not only the food and the atmosphere, but the history of our country that exists in this restaurant. My wife is a proud member of DAR and the Mayflower Society so she loves this place. For me it's all about the turkey pot pie, which is as big as a Thanksgiving turkey. My friend said chicken sandwiches fish sandwich. My wife had an everything you can put on a bun sandwich with great crinkle cut Fries. All in all a great lunch plenty of parking the service could've been a notch more friendly but other than that, a really good spot to go and great food.

We decided on lunch here today since we were going to the Premium Outlets nearby. Checked Yelp for reviews which seemed to be mixed. The outside of the building is colonial and quite stately. Our server, Delaney, was a wealth of information regarding the restaurant and museum (inside same building). We shared the Brussels sprouts, cooked to perfection and large portion. My chicken salad wrap was delicious, had cranberries for an extra flavor boost, yum! House made chips were crispy and quite good. Hubs had the shepherds pie with the Caesar salad and said he'd order it again. Due to larger portions we skipped on the mud pie we had eyed on the menu, next time!! We hear the owner lives nearby and stops in from time to time and speaks with the guests. Totally recommend!! *side note the facility has large conference rooms as well.

The perfect outing if you like history and Nee England style food. I got the Connecticut Lobster Roll which is supposed to be the #1 item on the menu. It did not disappoint. All of the entree portions are large. We had the Chowder Fries - think of fries drenched in Nee England Clam Chowder soup. Very rich and filling. The size was smaller than I expected but for 3 of us it was more than enough. The Calamari appetizer is bigger. The rings are fried crispy with a mix of fried jalapeños. Careful of you don't like spicy food. For the other entrees we had the Mac & Cheese and the Tavern Burget. The Mac & Cheese is a large potion of rich homemade sauce with a Smokey flavor from the bacon. The burger was was large and juicy. Big enough that you might need a fork and knife to eat it. The location has a very large restaurant and ballrooms for events. Ample parking out front and a patio that was empty on a weekday. Our waiter was busy covering the tables. It was not a lot of staff and we had to request help a couple times. Everything ordered came out just right. The museum is perfect for a history buff. Especially American history. It is primarily one room with pieces lining all of the walls. I highly recommend this for a family outing or a date.

We visited on Wednesday after spending the day at Legoland. I purposely held off on writing this…read morereview because I wanted to see if I'd feel differently after having some time to reflect. Unfortunately, after thinking it over, I still feel the same way. Our family decided to come to Karl Strauss Brewery for dinner since it was close by. We were looking forward to relaxing and enjoying a meal after a fun day at the park. When we arrived, the hostess was very friendly and got us seated quickly, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, that's where our positive experience ended. The restaurant was extremely busy, and it took quite a while before our server came to greet us. We were able to order waters, but even those took a long time to arrive. After another long wait, we finally ordered our appetizers. Our original server, who I believe said her name was Noemi or Naomi, came across as overwhelmed, stressed, and like she didn't enjoy her job. While I understand restaurants get busy, her attitude made us feel like we were an inconvenience. She wasn't very attentive, especially to our kids, who had been at Legoland all day and were extremely hungry. She never came back to take their food order, and we found ourselves waiting longer and longer without any communication. Eventually, another server took over our table. She was incredibly kind, friendly, and apologetic. We explained that we had already been waiting a long time and just wanted to place our food order to go so we could get our hungry kids back to the hotel. She handled the situation professionally and did her best to help, which we truly appreciated. If you're dining with young children, I'd keep in mind that service may not be the best fit if your family needs an attentive server or timely service. Waiting extended periods without updates can be especially difficult for tired, hungry kids. It's disappointing because the restaurant itself seemed nice, and the hostess and second server were both wonderful. Unfortunately, the experience with our original server left a bad impression. While I understand busy nights happen, the lack of attentiveness and communication made for a frustrating experience, and because of that, I don't think we'll be returning.
