Remarkable! We stopped here after a late flight into NC and were so pleased we did! Located in a charming style Victorian home, Amalia's welcoming service with no reservations was tasteful. We got seated promptly and had the pleasure of being served by Shannon. Shannon was humorous, kind and explained the menu very thoroughly so that we understood. In addition, he asked us what brought us to Amalia's and catered to our occasion. While we were in town for a wedding, we also were celebrating some home wins as well which Shannon took note of and gave us complimentary drinks at the end of our evening which was so kind. We started our evening off with some NA mocktails made in house which resembled a mojito. There were fresh strawberries and a lime wedge on top of the cup. I appreciated that this drink wasn't overly sugary and was the perfect blend of refreshing we needed especially after a flight. From there, we got complimentary house bread which was outstanding as it contained oil and onions baked in. Delicious! Shannon explained the menu was tapas style or small plate. We lead with the zucchini appetizer which had pistachios on top and were given suggestions on how to eat it. We went with the sushi method and ended up rolling the thinly sliced zucchini with a fork and it was perfect!! A very fun experience and such a unique menu option. For our main dishes, my husband has the steak and mashed potato special while I had the truffle cavatelli with sausage. Both items were out of this word and the perfect portion size. Shannon knew we loved the bread and brought us more to our table even though I'm fairly certain that is supposed to be for the beginning of the coursing. While our bellies were too stuffed for dessert right then and there, we did get cannolis to go and they are currently up in our fridge. We look forward to trying! We were able to see the other patrons order dinner in house and the entire layout is a production. If you have the chance and room for dessert, I highly recommend because the staff prepares it for you at your table. Aura was calm, soothing with a classic feel Service was lovely Food was delicious I dined alone, but I found comfort in the small pleasures of the meal. The carrots still carried a subtle citrus flavor with a hint of sweetness, which I found quite lovely. The shrimp was decadently cooked to perfection, offering a special treat. The mashed potatoes were truly exceptional--I could have enjoyed a whole bowl by themselves. For the risotto, I added a little pepper and Parmesan cheese, which really brought out its depth, though I think it could have been even better with a few more enhancements. Despite everything, I had an overall enjoyable meal, topped off with a wonderful dessert--the flourless chocolate torte. It was truly delicious, especially with the homemade whipped cream on top. This isn't just a meal. It's an experience. And one that I can't recommend enough. The place itself is a house and you feel right at home as soon you walk in. Parking is easy and there's plenty of seating options. Now, before you go, you should expect to spend a pretty penny here after all is said and done, especially if ordering a bottle of wine. #1 Pro tip: Ask for Gaetano when you make your reservation. I have no doubt every member of the staff is phenomenal, but Gaetano tells a story. He immerses you into the culture of Italy. You feel like you're actually there as you enjoy your meal. He brought us complimentary olives from Sicily and they were divine. I'm not even an olive fan! This set the tone for the whole experience. Amalia's in an Italian restaurant in Wake Forest that is located in a renovated Victorian historic house from the 1800s. The restaurant is named after the chef's grandmother who inspired his love of cooking. There is a good-sized parking lot in the back. The entrance to the restaurant is in the front and up the stairs. There is a small bar in the back and I think two rooms with tables. When my group arrived, we were the only ones there at first but as the room filled, it got hotter and louder. The air conditioner wasn't set to consider the amount of body heat from the guests. Service was mostly good although a few of us were skipped each time on water refills and not all food was brought out in a timely manner. The table had samples of bruschetta and bread was brought to the table. I went with the della Nonna and added shrimp, thanks to another reviewer on here for mentioning that option as the waiter did not mention it as a possibility. I enjoyed my dish and the shrimp were large and cooked well. Others at the table complained of over-salted food and garlic mashed potatoes that lacked the garlic. So the food doesn't seem to be consistent. The prices seem too high for the portions to dine here regularly. read more

Returning to a favorite eatery is always enjoyable. This time around, I felt more confident in my ordering decisions. Choosing an appetizer, entree, and side dish was the perfect balance of flavors. Previously, we were oversold on food and ordered pasta with an entree, which was too much. The menu has been revised, with fewer fish options now available. I took my Mom here for a birthday dinner. The restaurant looks very cozy and homey (we actually drove by it initially thinking it was an actual house). The interior definitely gives you that traditional family Italian restaurant vibe. The service was great! Our server was newish but she was really nice and patient as my mom figured out what she wanted to eat and drink. She brought out a few wine samples for us to try as well. She even surprised us with champagne flutes to celebrate my Mom's birthday! The food was delish. Everything was blown away by almost everything I ate. The Gratin di Cavolfiore was the only exception because I'm not really a fan of cauliflower but it made cauliflower edible for me. I love lobster dishes and the lobster risotto didn't disappoint. Amalia's has been on my "want to try" list for as long as I can remember. So finally it made sense to select it for our 39th wedding anniversary. We ended up spending $226.23 including taxes and tip. The best part of the meal for us, honestly, was the ambiance and the service. For our special anniversary meal it was exactly what we wanted. Wake Forest is a bit of a drive from north raleigh. The parking, walk up and greeting hall were charming and warm. The old home the restaurant is in also gave a great warm ambiance. It was all smiles by the unhurried staff as we walked in and sat down. We had a lovely window seat overlooking a quiet road past the front porch. We were immediately relaxed. We were promptly informed that this was a brand new menu. It was revamped while the restaurant was closed for a 3 week summer break. We were the first to try it. We were guided to share a pasta from the Primi section to start so we started with the $19 Farfelle which was simply prepared. Nothing particularly notable about the sauce and it was small. It was fine but given the price and the ambience we had hoped for a bit more effort. Then for the secondi we got the Anelio Salsa Verde which were lamb chops and the Maialino which were pork chops. The pork chops plate, which was $45 came with two large pork chops covered in what looked like a demi-glaze. The pork chops were well prepared but the sauce did not have much flavor.There was nothing else on the plate. The lamp chop dish which was $60 had 4 lamb chops with a dry rub on them accompanied with a ramakin of pesto sauce. The lamb chops were so under cooked they were almost raw and we like our meat raw so that is saying something. The pesto was very good but did not go well with the lamb chops. We were also guided to order 1 side and share so we ordered the Verdure which tonight was asparagus. The $14 dish came with about 8 perfectly cooked fat asparagus stocks covered with a non descript white sauce.I ordered a full bodied Italian red wine which i enjoyed. We finished with a "prepared at your table" Tiramisu. The $17 dessert was prepared again with warmth and style but there was no covering up the fact that too many steps were skipped between a Tiramisu prepared at the table and one prepared "properly". For instance, a typical Tiramisu would be prepared with marscapone cheese, mixed with whipped cream and an egg yolk. What was actually served was whipped cream tho they told us it was custard. Also, Tiramisu lady fingers are typically dipped in a mix of coffee and rum or congac. In our case the alcohol was not added. Last but not least in a traditional Tiramisu there is a dusting of cocoa that sandwiches the top and bottom of the dish. But the Tiramisu that was served to us had coffee powder instead. It was just fine but nothing remarkable. Overall, the menu in general, and our meal in particular was not especially ... italian. For a special evening i cannot think of a better place for us to have eaten. The people and the place and the service were perfect for us. The meal was lovely enough to meet the evening. We likely will not be back tho as too many corners cut on average given the cost of the meal. read more

After traveling all over the world to 69 countries and 32 states, I have experienced some of the most amazing culinary experiences, from small mom-and-pop restaurants to Michelin-star dining experiences. It is important for me to provide an unfiltered review, giving the reader both the positives and negatives of a dining experience, including service, presentation, and food quality/taste. SERVICE Logan provided an exceptional dining experience, embodying professionalism, warmth, and depth of information about the entire menu to help us make the best choices for our tastes. He was extremely attentive throughout the entire night, providing a consistent and elevated level of service that one would expect in a fine-dining restaurant. FOOD Antipasti: Variazione di Parmigiano - Parmigiano Reggiano cheese variation. 24 months aged Flan, 30 months aged Fondue, 18 months aged crisp. The trifecta of Parmigiano was a journey of silky smooth, velvety, creamy, and crispy textures, coupled with the flavors that include sweetness, tangy, and savory flavors coming together as an outstanding homage to the different ages of the cheese. Unfortunately, visually, the dish was very simple and somewhat plain, providing a very disappointing first impression. There did seem to be something missing. It was difficult to break the crispy Parmigiano, leaving it difficult to get the three elements together. I believe having toasted baguette slices would have added a compliment to the dish, allowing the consumer to spread the soft parmigiano cheeses on another crispy element. Primi (Pastas): We had two pasta dishes 1 - Bucatini all'Amatriciana - Imported Bucatini pasta served with classic guanciale, tomato and pecorino romano sauce. Having traveled to Italy 13 times, this dish was truly an exceptional display of the heart of Italian cuisine. Bucatini pasta, one of my favorite pastas, was cooked al dente with a rich, savory, tangy, and sweet tomato sauce coupled with guanciale which provides a salty richness. 2 - Orecchiette Pugliesi Imported fresh Orecchiette pasta with homemade italian sausage, sautéed broccoli rabe. Both these dishes were nothing short of perfection. The ear-like pasta was cooked al dente mixed with the sauce, sausage herbs and spices, and broccoli rabe providing a complex depth of flavors, making the dish well-rounded and resulting in an expertly executed dish with both tastes and textures. Entrees: 1 - Branzino arrosto oven-roasted with olive oil, garlic, lemon and fresh herbs, toasted Fregola. The simple word to describe this dish is horrible. I have eaten Branzino all over the world at some of the top restaurants around the globe, and this dish was by far the worst rendition of Branzino I have ever seen. The fish was in no way a traditional branzino. It was the size of a tilapia, dry as could be, and the breading they were using on the outside was a reminiscence of a fried fish you would get a local fish fry. If the Chef knew what was good for them, they would 86 this dish and try again. 2 - Agnello Scottadito - Domestic lamb chops marinated with anchovy fillets, mustard, lemon zest, garlic, and sage; served with almond gremolata. The lamb chops were tender and succulent and cooked to perfection with a slight char on the outside that enhanced the richness and flavors of the marinade. The anchovy fillets are subtle and not at all noticeable. The blend of flavors of the mustard, garlic, and sage really created the right aroma and taste to compliment the chops. The almond gremolata layered under the tent of the lamb chop and the lemon zest bring together crunchy texture and citrus to compliment the main. Dessert: Lavender-infused Crème Brulee with Blueberries. This was a delightful portrayal of a classic dessert; the floral and fruity flavors truly elevate this dish and truly differentiate the dish from any classic crème brulee. This dessert really brings in an element of surprise to cap off an amazing evening. OVERALL While the journey was a bit choppy, my overall view of this restaurant is that it provides an amazing Italian culinary experience with a perfect atmosphere and service to make for an amazing evening. read more

Was it expensive? Yes. Was it worth it? Absolutely We have been trying to get in here for months. So glad we finally did. This is definitely not a place to come to every weekend. We have dined here before and love it but do reserve it for special occasions. Tonight was intended to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. Our server, Laura, seemed excited that we were there to celebrate but rushed us through the menu and only highlighted three items (previous visits have had a thorough review of all items and ensuring a solid understanding and with our mouths watering). Our reservation was at 5:15, we were seated at 5:10 and there was one other party of two in our dining area. Laura told us twice that she would give us more time to review the menu. We were ready both times and she left before we could even speak. She spent ten minutes with a table that came in after us with a screaming child and not only brought them a bottle of wine and poured it, but took their order while she still had not even taken a drink order from us. When she finally decided to provide some attention to us (20 minutes after we were seated), we had already decided to leave. I left in tears. This was supposed to be an epic anniversary celebration like it was when we came last year for our 29th. It is somewhat unfair to put a lousy review on a restaurant that has always been fabulous food and great service until tonight but this felt horrible. It felt like a huge snub (and Laura, we are HUGE tippers so big miss). For perspective, we scrambled to salvage our anniversary and ended up at Cape Fear Seafood. The newly 21 year old server spent more time with us reviewing the menu and specials that Laura even attempted. We already have our drinks and our order is placed. The service and hospitality were on point from the moment you walk in. Fantastic ambiance. We ordered the cheese appetizer along with lobster risotto and the rib eye with truffle butter. All were very well executed and sure you can nick pick but then that becomes personal taste. The chocolate tort and gelato were such a great combo and easily feeds four. They have a great selection of wine as well. Food quality lives up to pricing which cant be said for all restaurants regardless of price. I have lived in Wake Forest for 5 years hand only just tried this unique, exquisite and charming restaurant. It is less than 5 minutes from my house! Our server was outstanding. An older gentleman, from Italy. He gave us the history of the restaurant, where he was from. It was a completely authentic experience. If you're a fan of bubbly, highly recommend the De Faveri Prosecco Trevisi Brut. Wonderful! I loved it so much I googled it to see where I could find it locally. I started with the Insalata Di Rucola which was the most perfect arugula salad. Very light and delicious. For my entree I ordered the Linguine Alla Pescatora. Honestly this was very underwhelming for me. There was a great amount of seafood - large prawns, lobster chunks - but otherwise very bland. Was supposed to be a slightly spicy tomato sauce with white wine. I didn't really get any of that and ate the delicious seafood and maybe 3 bites of the actual pasta. For a $38 Linguine, I was expecting to be in love. But alas, this did NOT take away from the overall experience. I had to get the Tiramisu because it was a family recipe. Husband and I chose Amelia's to celebrate our anniversary. After returning recently from 3 weeks visiting different parts of Italy as we did a Mediterranean cruise we wanted to experience a slice of Italy again. We have lived in wake forest for 2 years now and were really excited to finally visit. Overall the food was good however I was slightly disappointed in the service. The highlight was Stephen. He was very thoughtful and attentive. Our waiter Logan was also nice but we did notice he wasn't as attentive to us as the other tables. Someone else had to offer us bread, we were not offered a dessert menu or our anniversary acknowledged (was not expected) although we heard the table directly behind us get all of the previously mentioned. There was also an older gentlemen there that was very knowledgeable of wine and menu and made an effort to go to each of the tables and offer insight. Attended to all tables except ours. Actually looked at us-We smiled, my husband said hello and he ignored us (once again we didn't expect anything as he was not our waiter). We just felt it odd that he acknowledged every table except ours. The establishment was really nice, however for $300+ meal I did expect the same service as I witnessed those around me get. After our meal we did ask about dessert and no menu was offered. But did tell us they didn't have cannoli. We then saw the table directly beside us get dessert menus. No offer for coffee or after dinner drinks. Once again the table beside and behind us was offered and presented some recommendations. Once again, these are not things we required, however very disappointed that we were not given the same service as others around us. Our dissatisfaction with the service was not reflected in our tip as we do think Logan did an ok job. Since moving from Minnesota to North Carolina, I have been looking for that one, intimate Italian restaurant that stands out from the rest and that I could rely on for an intimate evening out. This establishment literally hit home, its is intimate, it is welcoming, accommodating and more than capable of meeting expectations. Although reservations are highly welcomed, I would assume they take walk-ins. Now most of ALL Italian restaurants have that I have visited in the fine state of NC either excelled or failed at one thing, and that being Gnocchi. Mediocre restaurant's will serve a very large serving of store bought gnocchi married to a mediocre sauce or serve a house made gnocchi, married to a quality sauce. Amalia's not only married a quality pesto sauce to an amazing house made gnocchi, they fine tuned the portion and serve fresh bread to allow the soaking up of the remainder of that wonderful sauce, unlike many of the greedy Americanized restaurants looking to profit on every aspect of the dining experience, by charging in one direction or the other. They also surpassed my expectations on the quality of the lasagna! I would consider Amalia's lasagna of the two best I have experienced elsewhere across the globe. It was phenomenal and quite unique! I will look forward to this again. Generally speaking I would have to say Amalia's has the best customer service and attention to detail I have experienced thus far. They will go out of there way to make sure you're dining experience is perfect, and this opinion coming from someone whom has had the luxury of dining in Michelin rated restaurants overseas, I now adore this establishment and would hope everyone visiting will as well. I went at 4pm as it is shown on Yelp but when I made it there they told me the hours were wrong and that they opened at 5 ! I had to kill time for 1 hr, I really wanted to give this place no more than 4 stars but I ethically can't. This is really the best Italian I've had in a while. I decided to try 4 pasta dishes out of their menu and they were all great. Sauces were rich, creamy and tasty. Check the pictures. Service was excellent. Place is quite and kinda romantic. It is not a cheap place so save this place for a special occasion. I was told that every few months they change the menu so I'll keep an oye on that. I'll come back for sure. Fabulous! We went there Friday night on a whim with another couple. We scored a six o'clock reservation and my wife was told that they were booked for the evening when she asked for a later time. The restaurant is in a converted old Victorian house on S Main Street in Wake Forest. I think the last time we were there was in the summer of 2019. I'm very happy that they weathered the pandemic and subsequent shutdown and limited seating capacity. The interior is very charming. They have art work from local artists on the wall which is a nice touch. The menu isn't extensive. They keep it relatively simple here with authentic Italian cuisine. They do offer appetizer and entree specials. As of now, there are two dining rooms inside, a bar area in the rear and outside seating on the porch. They did fill up quickly after we arrived. Our waiter, Gaetano, was excellent. He explained everything on the menu. He also explained the best wine pairings with each meal. We started with the salumi formaggi and baratta appetizer. Both were excellent. The baratta was fresh and creamy. The cheeses and cured meats were all imported from Italy. They balanced each other out nicely. I went with the Brasato, which was a beef cheek over potato purée. It was great. The meat was seasoned nicely and it was so tender, you didn't need a knife to cut it. My neighbor went with the same dish and he enjoyed it. My wife ordered the pasta special with shrimp. She requested gluten free penne and they were able to accommodate her. My neighbor's wife went with the Penne Alla Norcini, which had homemade sausage, black truffle and a cream sauce. She liked it very much. The wine pairings recommended by our waiter complemented the meals nicely. However, I can't recall both names of the two bottles of wine we ordered. However, one was a Chianti (Poggio A'Frati), the other was a Pinot Noir. Being from NYC we were use to having many authentic Italian restaurants to choose from in the metro area. I'm really glad this restaurant is in Wake Forest. The food here is really good as is the ambiance in my opinion. read more

My wife and I have driven by a few times and wanted to try it out. We decided to go yesterday to celebrate our 24th wedding anniversary. From the greeting at the door to leaving everyone was just so welcoming. Our waitress (forgot her name) was so pleasant and being that it was our first time explaned the menu and answered all our questions. My wife doesn't drink so she asked if they served mocktails which the server enthusiastically replied yes we can and asked what type do you like and she offered to create one which my wife said it was great. The dinner was amazing. I had the "Polpo alla Griglia" Charred octopus in a chilli oil on a chickpea puree. It was AMAZING! Perfect combination of spicy (not overwhelming hot) over the chickpea puree. My wife had the "Risotto ai Funghi Estivi" over grilled shrimp (as a add on). She also enjoyed it. The ambiance is very welcoming and warm/cozy. Overall I highly recommend it as a great place to dine! We'll be back! read more

My wife and I had an outstanding evening on Saturday. Both our dinner and service were excellent. The Italian delights were superb. Our server was of great assistance in guiding us with our selections. While a full house, there was no pressure to hurry up and finish our dinning or wine. Amalia's Italian restaurant was a wonderful fine dining experience from the moment I walked in the door until after we left. The table was set divinely, the service was spectacular, and the food.... Was outta this world. I felt as if I came into my friend's home and was served course after course of delicious food. If you are in the area you must try this place. Next time I come to The RDU I will go out if my way to go to this place. I came here with my 4 kids and my kids also felt welcome. Thank you for the phenomenal experience. Also the tree and the train decorations were fabulous, as well as the everyday setting for the restaurant. I loved the drapes and the small details of the place. Amalia's is an amazing place for a special date night or celebration. We had the pleasure of having Brian as our waiter again and could not have asked for a better experience. We love sitting on the porch, but I understand some people complain about the "traffic noise." Some people will find anything to complain about. Beautiful authentic Italian restaurant located in a historic Wake Forest home is very charming and delicious! I chose to go here for my birthday dinner because it's somewhere more upscale that I would not be going to casually. We walked in to a guitarist playing live music which was a nice surprise. It is a bit pricey but it is quality and an experience! They get ingredients flown into Italy and the portions are a nice size (we brought home leftovers). Our waitress Natalie was super nice, bubbly and attentive. It is recommended that reservations are made, we made ours however a table was moving a little slower than expected so we were directed to the bar where we could wait and grab drinks. I'd say we were probably sat within 20 mins of our reservation time which didn't bother us because we were enjoying delicious drinks! Once sat they bring out complementary bruschetta toast and focaccia bread which is to die for! They knew I was celebrating a birthday so at the end of dinner brought the whole table a free glass of champagne to toast with, I thought this was a really nice touch! Amalia's is a fine dining, fresh made Italian restaurant in a converted Victorian house. The ambiance is very homey with all the right touches. We absolutely loved the little lamps on the table that you tap on to turn the brightness up to read the menu and turn down to great mood lighting. Our server was from Italy and took his time explaining every detail. Not a place to rush through, the pace is relaxed and the service is excellent. The food is meant to be shared so that's what we did. The caprese salad was so good with aged buffalo mozzarella. We then split the Norcina penne between the 3 of us and I loved every bite. The scallops were done to perfection and I also tried the risotto. Not exactly vegetarian friendly but if you're pescatarian, you'll do fine. The menu is smaller than average, but everything I tasted was fantastic. We split the tiramisu and we were all very satisfied with the amount and quality of the food and wine. This was an early Mother's Day celebration from my daughter and was a great choice! read more
