Dr. Backstrom and team have been such a blessing for me. I came from a dentist's office that made me really uncomfortable and treated me like I was always doing something wrong. Dr. Backstrom came to the rescue during a dental emergency and the entire office was so kind and welcoming. Having approachable staff is so important in this field. Love coming to Artesa to see Dr. Morford and Leah! Been to lots of places with the latest equipment but none of the same care. Leah is an awesome dental hygienist! I always feel like she's getting everything squeaky clean and always is down to answer my questions and provide more information. She somehow makes conversation feel easy and fun when I can barely talk. Dr. Morford takes the time to understand my concerns and needs and thoroughly explain what she's finding and thinking about when it comes to my dental health. She's helped me through a mediocre Invisalign treatment with another doctor-- including researching solutions. She also checks my tongue as part of my exam which apparently should be standard practice but no Dr. has ever checked my tongue in 3 decades before. I came in to have my teeth cleaned. My Hygienist name is Bridget. I have been getting my teeth cleaned over my lifetime for over 50 years. Artesa Dental is in the Delta Dental network as of Oct 2023. Yay! My prior dentist (who I had no complaints about) is no longer in the Delta network. A cap on a front tooth fractured. It was quite visible so I was anxious to have it repaired quickly. I called and they fit me in the next day for a temporary cap. I saw Dr. Morford. I returned a few weeks later for the permanent cap. The color for both the temp and permanent matched the other teeth very well. Dr. Morford, Rachel Ryan, and all the staff were professional, efficient, and friendly. Also, I paid the bill upfront, but the estimate of what the insurance would pay was too low. So I had overpaid. I called and the Artesa staff immediately agreed that yes I had overpaid. They quickly wrote out a check for the overpaid amount for me to pick up. I was so impressed. I am very pleased with Artesa and highly recommend them! read more

I am VERY picky when it comes to choosing a dentist, and have the highest expectations. I consider myself to have considerably more experience and knowledge than the average person may have about Dentists and Dentistry, due to my nearly 30 years in Healthcare. From that perspective, I am grateful and and happy to have found Dr Backstrom and her amazing team! They have state-of the art facilities and equipment, and definitely meet my standards for technique, training, and skill. They are professional, personable, and very accommodating to my needs. My experience with their scheduling has been far above the norm, and I appreciate the personal touches that are evident on every visit. If you believe a patient has the right to choose what happens in their mouth, don't go here. Either because your dentist finds our mouths "unclean," and can't bring herself to touch you before you are "cleansed," or for maximum billing purposes, you will be steered to a hygienist before the dentist ever examines your mouth or teeth. If you don't agree to allowing the hygienist to scrape your aching teeth and gums with her metal tool, the dentist will refuse to treat whatever dental needs you came to her office for in the first place. read more

I've been going to Artesa dental for years now and love it. The office is relaxing and clean. They even rebuilt everything with covid safety in mind so that all the rooms are separate and private from each other. All of the staff are fantastic too: from the front desk setting the tone when I enter the office to the assistants making sure I'm comfortable the whole time. The hygienists there are top notch too! They are so thorough even while being so gentle when cleaning my teeth. I also love seeing Dr. Morford who always goes above and beyond in taking care of me whether it is by filling a small cavity for me right after my exam so I don't have to come back another time or making sure an old night guard fits just right. Dr. Backstrom is also so easy to talk to and friendly. The whole office makes me feel very welcome!! read more

Writing this as I sit in the chair watching my little guy get a filling and their team is doing such a great job with him! He definitely has an aversion to the dentist from some early trauma knocking in teeth at a very young age. We've been coming here for a few years but had been sending our kids to a fun silly kid dentist that was always way booked out so we finally started taking them here and it's WAY BETTER. The chair side manner with kids is fantastic- he's hardly freaking out because of their constant communication and making him feel safe. The previous dentist just leaned hard on an overhead mounted tv and kid shows to get kids to chill out (didn't always work) but they don't even need those gimmicks here. Thrilled to be taking the whole family here now and would highly recommend for your family too! read more

Professional Skill - 5 Customer/Patient Service - 5 in the beginning, 2 after the lies Honesty with Patient - 0 I'm an easygoing person. So writing a negative review is not something I relish. I first went to Artesa Dental about 3-4 years ago. I needed to get some work done and as they were close geographically, and as I was impressed by the mailer I got, I decided to check them out. I had basic dentistry with them for the first year, i.e., cleanings, etc. And all was well. In fact, I appreciated the patient service, especially from Linda who is no longer there. Two years ago, I'd have given a 5 out of 5. In fact, I used to recommend them to friends. Seriously. And was happy to do so. Well, everything changed. About 2.5 years ago roughly, a root canal for the middle tooth on my lower palate snapped while eating a sandwich and it had to be removed. My intention was to get an implant. But Dr. Backstrom talked me out of it. She said I should get Invisalign. My teeth were not that crooked. I had one snaggle tooth on my upper palate and some overlapping on the bottom. It wasn't egregious. It's not like I looked like someone from the back woods of Mississippi or something. Dr. Backstrom said the bite I had was not good and needed to be corrected. The dental hygienist Erica implied that the InvisAlign treatment would bring my teeth on my lower palate together obviating the need for an implant. When I asked Dr. Backstrom, she deferred answering me directly. That was a warning flag I ignored. As a hygienist is a representative of the dentist, I took Erica at her word and it was a MAJOR factor in my decision to get the InvisAlign treatment. This is the linchpin of my frustration: I was sold on getting something I didn't really need. All I wanted was an implant. One of the indicators of dishonesty is that things are not answered when you bring them up. Or, you are told something AFTER the check's been cashed. They're called "lies of omission." And that is what happened here. I got the InvisAlign and it's not cheap. One of the things I wasn't told is that you have to clean the retainers EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Why is this important? Because you have to buy a product like Retainer Brite to clean them -- an additional cost ($45 for a years supply). Not a big deal, true, but it fit the pattern of subtle deceit. I will never go to them EVER again. Do YOU like being lied to for money? Do YOU like being manipulated? If so, Artesa Dental might be for you. If you don't like being lied to, you can get good dental care elsewhere. I certainly will. So, no, I'm sad to say I can't recommend Artesa Dental anymore. P.S. I wrote this review a few months ago and imagine my surprise when it was deleted. I can only conclude logically that Artesa Dental had it removed. read more

Being a new patient and new to the area, I arrived more than 15 minutes early as instructed by the receptionist Dani. I found that the office was locked with a note taped to the door to come back 20 minutes later at 2pm. The hygienist was personable, friendly and she did a great job with my new x-rays, the inspection and cleaning. Afterwards, I met my new dentist Amanda Backtrom who made the assessment of the health and condition of my teeth. I was informed by her - that my incredibly expensive zirconia crowns (-crowns that I am in fact still paying for) crowns I had previously had done just last year in Southern CA were absolutely no good. It was her recommendation that they be cut out and redone by her. She verbally gave me the explanations why using terms like "my crowns were like a blob" they were not seated properly, etc. -she also recommended I ask for that dentist for a refund! Mortified to learn the cost would be 100% my responsibility to replace these crowns, I asked and found she was unwilling to document her findings so that I could go to my previous dentist with this type of ammunition to request a refund and have the issue corrected by Dr. Backstrom. I am seeking a dentist with integrity and did not find it here. I am canceling all future appointments at Artesa. I think it's in my best interest to secure a second opinion regarding these crowns. Dr. Backstrom and her entire team are just phenomenal! I always feel welcome when I visit. This is a very special office, it's bright, modern and friendly...truly feels more like a spa experience vs. a visit to the dentist. This says a LOT because I have historically dreaded going to the dentist. Several years ago, Dr. Backstrom worked her magic and saved me from a root canal. I will forever be grateful. Last week, I brought my spirited boys (ages 5 and 6) and they had a great time?! The hygienists and Dr. Backstrom made them feel very comfortable by taking it slowly and explaining everything they were doing. They somehow made it fun! Reservation policy has changed. They won't see you if you haven't confirmed your appointment. I wasn't notified of the policy change. I rescheduled an appointment a week prior from my Tuesday appointment. They called me on Friday that same week to confirm the Tuesday appointment. I didn't answer the phone since I was at my Father-in-Law's funeral. Needless to say, when I arrived on Tuesday I was turned away. I cross a bridge to get service done here and do not remember ever missing an appointment. My qualm is this: integrate a reservation system that allows patients to confirm their appointment via text or email or even via the web. They have a modern facility but antiquated administrative processes. My kids' Ortho and Dentist both have systems like this and never had any issues. They say I opted out of this but do not recall by what means this was declined (not verbally, was it written?) Better communication with policy changes with your long time clients is appreciated as well. They said they sent me two emails to confirm my appointment which I looked for thinking maybe I missed it. However, scouring through my email history, I could not find any emails regarding the appointment confirmation. Could it have been a glitch in the notification system? Would it have mattered to them if there was? Based on their system records, I received it and there's no disputing it. Nice people but the last situation after my Dad's funeral struck a nerve based on the lack of compassion. I cancelled my husband's upcoming appointments based on general principle. read more

Just got of the phone with Ryan or Brian, she is one of the front desk clerks, extremely rude and also discriminatory against people who do not speak English fluently. She was rude to my family member that doesn't speak English very well and to add to it she tried to charge them with a no show fee that did not existed. The appointment was never made for today and they never agreed to proceed with additional procedures with this dental office but they still wanted to charge for an appointment that was never made. I also cancel my future appointments and procedures with them due to the way this person Ryan or Brian treated them and how she also treated me on the phone, with an extremely rude attitude and derogatory behavior towards me and my family. I will never allow this type of disrespect in this day and age towards another person. Her words " you and your family aren't a good fit for our office, you should consider something in a different area" my question is what do you mean by that!??? Worst dentist ever! I had her repair a front tooth on my bridge. Charged me $440. The repair lasted less than 60 days, and just fell off. When I notified her, she wanted $315 to repair it again!! She said she won't guarantee her work for even 1 day. What a rip off!!!! read more

This dentist office is the nicest office I've been to. I hadn't gone to the dentist in over 4 yrs when I made my appointment. They had a special going on for new clients and I took advantage of it. I needed some major cleaning and some sealants on my teeth because they were so sensitive. I also had a chip on my tooth which I wanted smoothed. After my initial teeth cleaning, I returned to the office for my heavy duty work and I ended up getting Dr. Bender and she is AWESOME!!! Since I was younger, I had a problem going to the dentist because I always had a bad experience and I told her that. She was so fun easy going. We (well, I tried to, but my mouth was being worked on) talked throughout my whole appointment. She made my anxiety that I had built up for this appointment simply vanish away. Long story short, my teeth aren't as sensitive, my caps are white (not black) which makes them look invisible, my chip is gone and I couldn't be happier. I have my next dental cleaning in a couple of days and I can't wait to have squeaky clean teeth! read more

I had my first appointment yesterday for a cleaning, checkup and x-rays. I went in with some anxiety as the dentist is my least favorite place in the whole world. :/ Upon entering I was greeted by the front desk receptionist who was extremely friendly. She offered me hot tea or water... that's a first. She already had my insurance info together which was nice. I was seated in the waiting room and got through about 2.5 pages of People magazine before I was called into the back. Their back office looks like a space ship. lol It's beautifully modern... ultra modern. Loved the look and feel of it. The equipment is also all very modern, hi-tech. I was seated and had my first easy, painless set of x-rays taken ever. I HATE getting x-rays done at the dentist. Those bat wings they put in your mouth always poke and are so awkward and painful and LONG. The equipement they use at Artesa was very modern and simple. Two bites on each side and it was done. No pain whatsoever. Dr. Backstrom is stunning as everyone else has said. She's also very nice, attentive and helpful. She revealed two problem teeth, recommended fixing them. When I asked about a filling that I had from 20 years ago, she looked at it and told me that it was fine. I could have it re-done, but it would probably last another 15 years. I appreciate that she didn't try to take advantage like a lot of dentists do and have me pay for stuff that was unnecessary. The cleaning was bearable. ;) They use a super-sonic machine that uses water and sound to clean your teeth... it sounds just like a drill. So by the time they were done, I was a stiff as a board from the drilling sound... and slightly damp from the water (lol), but it was painless. I will definitely be going back to Artesa. Tomorrow, in fact, to get those problem teeth fixed. We'll see how I feel about Artesa after I have my cracked filling replaced. lol Also.. if you go as a first-time patient, mention Yelp and you'll get a free teeth whitening kit that includes the trays and bleach. I was fitted for my trays yesterday and should be able to pick them up next week. that's like a $300-500 value. ;) read more

I must admit, I am one of those few people (or maybe many) that have an extreme fear of the dentist. I finally decided that if I was able to deliver a baby, it might be time to face my fears and go to the dentist. . . After reading many positive yelp reviews, I decided to call Artesa and make an appointment. The office coordinator (I wish I were better with names :-| ) was awesome! I told her how I found Artesa and she was great! Told her my back story and she made me comfortable by inviting me in before my visit to feel more comfortable. I didn't have the time to go before, but I wish I had because I would have felt so comfortable going in! My husband actually dropped me off because I was do nervous and walking in he said, "this is like a Spa babe!" And I couldn't disagree! My dental hygienist was do calming and polite, she did not make me feel bad once for my lack of dental visits, she was very concerned about my anxieties! When Dr. Ray came in he made me feel totally comfortable with my plan, no cavaties, but I did need a deep cleaning and wisdom teeth out. He was great! Advice for the office staff: My recommendation is to refrain from self serving practices such as overbooking your schedule when clients don't confirm the day before. I had scheduled 1 appointment for the same day and I was told I would receive a call back to confirm. Never happened. I called 2 days later and was told they didn't call me because my insurance didn't fax over my coverage info. Oh, but guess what? They sent it over just then and now she had my Info. Set another appointment. Rearranged my plans. I received a text @11:45 the day of letting me know that my 3pm appointment needed to move up to 1pm because the client confirmed for 3pm. I would have rather been set up for an indefinite appointment rather than play these-"let's see how we can capitalize on every last second- even if at the inconvenience of a client" game. I cannot say enough about how wonderful my experience was at Artesa Dental. I have used several over-the-counter teeth whitening toothpastes and gels and never saw much of a difference. Dr. Backstrom explained to me that since my front teeth were fillings, due to an accident as a child, that I unfortunately would not be able to get the results I was trying to achieve. The best treatment would be to do a whitening session and then have them replaced, as they are well over 20 years old. So I set up an appointment to first come in for a whitening treatment, and then came back a week later to have my two front fillings replaced and "color matched". For the first treatment, when I arrived everyone there was so warm and welcoming. The lady at the front desk discussed just exactly how the procedure was done and told me what to expect. I was offered a water while I filled out my paperwork. My wait was minimal and then Ryan, the dental assistant, led me to her chair. She again explained the procedure to me and offered me a blanket, headphones for music, a small bell to ring (in case I needed anything during the procedure) and some glasses to protect my eyes from the overhead light. I completed the four 15 minute whitening sessions. Ryan was super nice and each time made sure I was comfortable. I almost instantly saw results, Ryan explained that over the next week my teeth would continue to lighten and to be sure to drink water. I received many compliments from the other staff. The following day, Ryan even made a personal call to me to ask how I was feeling and if I was having an sensitivity. She suggested ibuprofen if I did. The following week, I came back for Dr. Backstrom to replace my fillings. Again, the front desk staff greeted me with open arms and asked how I was feeling. As I sat down in Ryan's chair she chatted with me and was super friendly. Dr. Backstrom was such a delight, her chair side manner is very personable, yet professional. She asked me several questions and then thoroughly explained the process of replacing the fillings. She numbed me up with a topical solution and set to work. She did an incredible job of matching the fillings to the lightened shade of the rest of my teeth. I never felt rushed and Dr. Backstrom really took the time to make sure I was happy and answer all of my questions. I think it is so cool how she mixed colors to find my perfect shade. My results are AMAZING! My husband has complimented me so much about my new smile. My overall experience at Artesa was incredible. Not only did I leave with a beautiful new smile, I also felt valued. I can't even begin to express my gratitude to Dr Amanda. Recently my 8 year old daughter fell and broke her front teeth....after hours on a Friday night! One call to Dr. Amanda and problem solved. This place is unethical and not trustworthy. I have been going there for years and somewhere along the line they dropped out of my insurance network. I had 3 crowns done over the years & questioned every time why the bill was so high. Finally this last time they charged me $838 & I called my insurance & asked why. They said Artesa is an "out of network" provider, who charges $1,307 for a crown, if they were "in network" the charge would have been $700-800, my portion would have been 50% of that. I called Artesa & asked why they didn't tell me they were out of network and she said "if you looked at your EOB you would have known that. I looked her straight in the eyes & asked why was my balance so high, she never once said "we are out of network"!! After paying $691.00, I had a balance of $147 left to pay & asked if they would waive it, they said no. read more

Facility is gorgeous, office staff is well mannered, professional and have delightful personalities; you will get treated with first class service here. One thing I've learned, especially in this industry, is you get what you pay for so the cost is worth it. If anything, I blame my insurance company for out of pocket costs because they're all fraudulent and misleading anyway. I had a superficial crack in a tooth that had been previously filled starting to decay and not only did she take care of it, but I didn't feel a thing as I relaxed in their cozy chair all the way through the procedure! Have you ever been to a dental spa? Well you need to come to Artesa dental! This is the first time in my life I have looked forward to coming to the dentist. They give me a warm lavender neck wrap to start and a warm eucalyptus cloth afterwards. And, yes, the dental treatment is outstanding. Professional, gentle, caring technicians. Knowledgeable, experienced, superb dentists. Front desk staff is incredibly helpful. They always have fresh flowers and a monthly drawing.
