I had a custom cake made here in 2016 in the shape of a guitar. I think the owner at the time was the one who created that cake for me. The design, detail and precision were so incredible. This is what made me come back and order again this year. Unfortunately my expectations were not met this time around. The cake was nothing of what I expected when I went through the design when I first placed the order. The digital art that was placed on the cake and the fondant job were not neatly done. I'm afraid of what the cake would have looked like had I not supplied them with some decorations. Needless to say I was disappointed and will not be using them again for any custom cake jobs. I got a cake here over the summer. I wrote a different review on that one ... but the reason I came back to this place was because of how great the first one turned out. Not only was the cake amazing but the service was fantastic. I went in person to place this order. I called to confirm info for the cake. Was told everything would be fine and ready for pick up and they couldn't give me the total price yet.. associate who answered the phone was very unprofessional. I show up to pick up cake and apparently there was a misunderstanding cake was not made. A nice guy working there said they'd have one done if I came back in two hours.... When I came for pickup the cake looked alright. It was until he put the lettering on...sloppy! This is a wedding party cake! $90+ for this.... The gourmet bake shop made us a beautiful large custom sheet cake for my daughter's baby shower. It had a beautiful woodlands theme with trees and a plethora of edible cartoon animals all around the front of the cake. It was really a beautiful piece of creative edible art. My daughter wanted a cannoli filling and it was so good that I didn't even get a piece, because there was nothing left at the end of the party to bring home. Thank you to the creative baker for helping to make my daughter's baby shower a success. They also make the best strawberry shortcake in town. read more

I ordered a challah bread and ruggalah as I was invited to a friend's Rosh Hashana dinner. The challah was very good and everyone loved it. The ruggalah however was awful. I was expecting fresh, I was told it would be made day of pickup. It tasted old and stale, sorry that I didn't take a picture of it. One of my favorite bakeries. I usually get their fruit tarts, mini pastries and fresh filled cannolis but never tried their cakes or custom ordered one before. But for my sons first birthday, I decided to take a chance and order the cake. Wow! I'm so impressed! The cake was beautiful and delicious! Joe is so talented and was able to bring my vision to life. I gave him a few pictures of what elements I liked and he did the rest. The cake was moist and delicious. I got a vanilla cake with buttercream frosting and a fresh fruit and custard filling. We decided to get our cake to bring to a bbq party on this place based on recommendation by a friend. The bakery is inside a small commercial center where PC Richard appliance store is located. Looking for a parking is a hustle. The place is small but clean. There is not much selection and all of their cake comes only in one size which I find it small for a party. The cookies selections are plentiful. Too bad we are here for the cake. Anyway, we opted to get the biggest pie we saw instead. The price is reasonable. The peach pie was one of the favorites in the party, the combination of the fruit, the bread and the sugar they blended with it are beyond to my expectation. Stopped by today for a sweet treat and coffee and am glad I did. I was greeted with a smile by the staff and took a few moments to survey all the mini treats before deciding on a Napoleon and Almond Tart. Both were tasty and just the right size; amply sweet without being over the top. I appreciated how clean they kept the place and that there were a few tables so that I could sit and enjoy my purchase right there. Even though I didn't detect anything amiss, I observed a staffer come out and sweep the seating area. Now I see why it looked as clean as it did to begin with! The self serve coffee station wasn't visually appealing as it kind of reminded me of an interstate truck stop. That being said, the coffee was decent and they had panty 2 of sweeteners and "lighteners" from which to choose. Coffee was also kept sufficiently hot but not scalding hot (thankfully). Pricing is fair and selection is plentiful. I look forward to coming back and trying out some other items next time and will also keep them in mind for a big order, if one is needed. read more

I opted to try this local bakery recently and was underwhelmed. It's a typical classic bakery, but with a limited selection of cookies and pastries. I guess it's good enough when you're in a pinch, but I do prefer Buttercooky. Maybe next time I'll try their breads as they had a decent selection. Went to the store today, and there was a long line. That was fine, no problem, it's a busy labor day weekend. This is my second time coming to this bakery and they are out of certain cookies. If you ask are there any more in the back, the quick response is no. The reason for my two stars is all the girls who are dealing with the customers are wearing plastic gloves, but are handling the cash and the bakery items with the same gloves!! I was shocked. One girl takes the money from the customer after getting their items and then says "next" after counting money and giving change. No changing gloves at all. Yuck. The girls who took my order, surprisingly put on new gloves, although I definitely was going to speak up if she didn't. This definitely needs to be fixed. Nice bakery with a lot of variety in cakes, crumb cakes, rolls, pastries, and cookies. Also sells coffee and there is a nice seating area here to relax. Usually serves a lot of older clientele and the servers were not the friendliest, one was an older woman who was helpful and the other was a young woman. Both weren't the most cheery greeters but hey, that's okay, that's not the type of sugar I'm here for. They've got gluten free cupcakes also which is a really cool and accommodating option, and they have some sugar free pastries as well. I've bought the chocolate crumb cake ring a couple years back before they renovated, which I still remember very fondly, and I came back today and saw that they still have a great variety of crumb cakes - I should buy one soon! The seven layer cake I had in the past was okay, too much frosting for me, but it has been years since trying that. Today I bought peanut brittle and a hazelnut cannoli, the peanut brittle is exactly how I remember it - perfect balance of peanut crunch to chocolate. Definitely recommend this. And the cannoli was fantastic too, such a unique twist and flavor. Cheap prices for awesome sweets, give it a try and stay there for a relaxing snack and drink. read more

This place was recommended by my neighbor for bagels. Well when I went there for bagels they sadly don't even have a huge selection of bagels like maybe 10 bagels in total I wanted sesame bagel like 3 of them and they only had one and mind you I went around 8:30am. I asked the girl who served me and she said we don't usually have them and bake very limited amount. Their bagel and other goods prices are fairly decent as opposed to other shops I have tried so far in the neighborhood. I got a sesame bagel toasted with butter but the girl who was helping me she burnt my bagel. I get it I wanted it to be toasted but not burnt so I wasn't able to enjoy it. The girl was nice though. She was polite but burning my bagel was not good. I'll probably try one more time to see their bagel collection and hope my bagel won't be burnt this time so I can actually enjoy it. read more

We came here on different occasions and tried a variety of their pastries, its an average bakery, nothing to boast. We have placed phone orders for their rainbow cake and also came in to place our orders for rainbow cakes and each time the staff had to verify pricing and availability. We ordered the rainbow cake maybe 4 different times....same cake, same size. Never the same answer, never the same staff. Cake itself is very pretty to look at, and the colors are vibrant and the kids love it. It delivers on that wow factor...the cake is covered in rainbow sprinkles and when cut, there are 6 layers (not the 7 as ROYGBIV) but it still displays the rainbow. Flavor...is nonexistent. There is no distinct taste. That isn't a bad thing, because who really wants to taste food coloring...or lack of it?! I mean, some flavoring to the cake would be nice, say apricot or almond filling?? I think they use a very bland raspberry jam. I don't taste it, but I see there is some kind of spread between the layers. It is situated in a plaza type mall, and parking is a breeze, we were able to drive right up to the bakery and find parking each time. The place is small, with one or two counter staff. The selection is good, lots of breads, and cookies. Still, just an okay place for dessert. We come here to get the colorful rainbow cake. read more

Bread is made daily and there's an assortment of danish and donuts. The cookies are also plentiful and fresh. Joe uses 'custard' cream in his eclairs which you don't find elsewhere. Most other bakeries use whip cream . I love this bakery compared to the highly rated Buttercooky. Service is faster and the baked goods are lighter. read more

My family was going so to a friends house for a bbq so we decided to buy a cake from Gourmet Bake Shop as we had previously done many times before. The cakes we usually but are good, but not always the best. However, this time the cake was absolutely disgusting. We bought a cannoli cake and when it was time for dessert the host cut the cake. As the first slice was cut from the cake, a green mold filled the layers where the cream was! Never in my life have I seen a more disgusting cake! The cake was clearly way more than a week old. I've seen cakes that have been slightly stale, but never anything mold. It was an absolutely horrifying experience. Never again will I purchase anything from this bakery again! read more

First off, I used the Yelp $10 for $15 deal and the girl who helped me was really nice and helpful as I putzed around on my phone looking for the code I needed. As for the store, it's clean and has a lot of reasonably priced delicious looking desserts. We seriously struggled to get to $15 as we ordered whoopie pies, cookies, a red velvet cupcake, a slice of rainbow cake. Most of these wonderful desserts are in the $2.00 to $2.50 range. There were many others I wanted to try. They had lobster tails, elephant ears, and Oreo cheesecake. Many of the cakes looked great and were very reasonably priced. As good as buttercooky bakery is down the road this place is much more affordable and almost as/equally delicious. The whoopie pie was not dry despite being really thick. It was really good. The rainbow sprinkled cookie which didn't get a picture, was melt in your mouth good. Everything here was moist, tasty, and made me want to come back again. Loved how friendly they were accepting the Yelp deal. I often dislike using groupons and other deals for fear of attitude or poor service at places. my co-worker brought in their chocolate mousse cake and a key lime pie (that they made especially for her!! it's not even on their menu!) to our office. both were amazinggggg all the layers of the chocolate cake were super delicious, the mouse was fluffy and the cake was moist and the outside melty solid chocolate part was so shiny and rich. the pie; i honestly don't even know what to say about it. it was delicious. the key lime part was tangy and sweet, the crust was buttery and the whipped cream was sweet but not overwhelming overall, 10/10 and I will definitely be requesting more cakes from my co-worker! read more

I happen to be a lover of jelly doughnuts and the best ones around can be found at this bakery. They are just like I remember them from my childhood -- soft, light, filled with jelly, and coated in granulated sugar. My mouth is watering just writing about them! Another hit is the cannoliwich (a chocolate chip cookie sandwich with cannoli cream in the middle). I should also mention that the French and Italian breads are also good. read more

I asked for a simple cake order a WEEK AND A HALF before my event and I am told that they need to review the order with the manager before it is confirmed, and that I email a picture of what I want. I email the picture right after I leave the shop, and did not receive a response until SIX DAYS LATER. I am told that the design was "too complicated" and the order was "too short notice." I do not understand how a simple one tier cake with NO fondant and minimal icing could take so long, and also maybe it would not have been too short of a notice, if the management had GOTTEN BACK TO ME SOONER.
