A great place for a meal! We went as a large group for dinner on a weekend. We had a reservation ahead of time and were seated promptly. The outside patio is beautiful with all the lights and heaters along with a fire place. 5/5 for the ambience! For appetizers we ordered hara bhara kebab, mini kachori chaat and lots of jal jeera. The mains included baingan bharta, malai kofta, dal bukhara and naan. Everything was good, especially the kebabs and dal. They were SUPER AMAZING! While from all the different naan flavors we got, the Kashmiri naan was the least favorite. Super sweet, this one is not something I would order again. They serve the food in fancy serve ware and the servers are prompt in service and follow instructions well. We had kids in the party and they enjoyed the freshly made naans. Quite average. Went there for a Saturday lunch buffet. We liked the spread and variety of items: however, the overall flavors were about average. Also a bit on the expensive side compared to other Indian restaurants in the neighborhood. We paid ~$35/person. Service was below average - the server didn't show up to take out drinks order until more than half way through our lunch. Also the fresh nan was served almost towards the end. They had limited staff and it seemed like all were busy helping out at an outdoor private event that the restaurant was hosting - service was super disappointing and frustrating - like they didn't care about the other patrons. We have been here a few times - experience has been about average each time. Although their catering food is amazing!!! Wonder if they have a different chef for catering vs. restaurant. The food was great! I enjoyed all the options. I came here shortly after a tooth surgery and wasn't able to try everything but what I did have I enjoyed and there were plenary of options for me. We hired Amber (Los Altos) to cater our Lohri festival, and we couldn't have been happier with the experience. The food was authentic and incredibly flavorful - everyone raved about the [Goat curry, Makki di Roti and Sarson da Saag]. They were also very professional and accommodating, handling all the details seamlessly. Anyone who has ever watched Star Wars Episode I can understand the tragedy of a lost opportunity. Amazing special effects, story telling that expands what you know, adventure... and all to be undone by one of the most unbearable characters in American cinema. And Amber India suffers from a familiar but fixable flaw. Service was just terrible on a Saturday evening. Jar Jar Binks honestly could have done better. The food was the Obi-Wan of the place, the chief element that will keep you coming back for more. Naan was fantastic. Soft and thin, it absorbed all the chicken curry we had ordered. Pesto shrimp was a great snack to eat on its own. Recommend this unique dish. Ordered a Moscow mule. Most Indian restaurants make questionable cocktails, not the case here. BEET AND TOFU TIKKI - Just delicious and one of a kind, it could easily convince a youngling (or adult) to convert to the dark side. Encompasses your mouth and let the flavor take you to utopia. We hosted a large gathering at Amber India Restaurant in Los Altos last week. This was our 2nd consecutive year doing so and will do it again in 2026. The restaurant is very well located and the banquet room is just perfect for a private gathering of 70-80 people. The food preparations are consistently great, very flavorful and authentic. Wine selection is decent. Mr. Ravi, the manager is great to work with, very accomodating and pleasant and works with you for your event. We had enough serve staff (and very pleasant) so everything went smoothly and on schedule. The banquet room, now with the blue/gold wall paper makes the room look much richer. I would request the owners to modernize other aspects of the banquet facilities as well. Overall a very nice place to hold a private event. You won't be disappointed. read more

HAIR ALERT!! Everything was perfect except the food. We went for lunch buffet. We had two encounter of hair in the food. First was in their bhel puri and the second one was in the gravy. For the first one the server took away the plate after showing him the hair in bhel puri. When the second time this happened the manager came and mentioned that all the cook wear a hair cap and it was mostly some customer's hair that ended up in main pot from where I took the gravy. TLDR: trashy food - rating 2/5, stingiest serving yet extremely inflated & undeserving price - minus 1/5. We ordered Aloo Gobi and Palak Paneer from Amber India via DoorDash. Both tasted extremely bland and had tiny portions. - The palak paneer was not only bland, but also had a weird after taste. For $20, they gave us so few tiny cubes of paneer (I counted, fewer than ten 1cm^2 cubes in the entire serving). - The aloo gobi is the worst I've ever had: so flavorless yet so greasy (literally a thick layer of oil floating on top of the sauce). It also had tiny portions. 1) Potatoes and cauliflowers are among the cheapest vegetables in the US. 2) The seasoning is too bad/flavorless for me to see any value in it. So seriously, help me understand what makes this dish so expensive and deserving $20? - Neither dishes came with rice or naan, which was shocking given how expensive they are. We had to pay extra $5+ to get the garlic & basil naan, which was mediocre but at least better than the main dishes. However, for $5.75, they gave us one naan cut into four pieces, which is an epitome of how stingy this restaurant is. This is probably the worst Indian food I've ever had in the US, yet the most expensive and with the stingiest serving. read more

I contacted Amber to host the rehearsal dinner for my son's upcoming wedding and spoke with Mr. Ravi. After discussing a few options--since our guests include vegans, vegetarians, and meat eaters--he was very helpful in suggesting menu items along with prices, taxes, gratuity, etc. He also invited us to a food tasting, which was a wonderful experience. Ravi warmly welcomed my son and future daughter‑in‑law, showed us the venue, and ensured everything felt smooth and well‑coordinated. I can't lie, I don't know how the hell this Amber in particular sucks so much compared to the other two Ambers I've tried, the one in Santana Row that got replaced by Fitoor, and the other one in San Francisco. My typical order at Amber is their kadhai paneer, garlic naan, and veg dum biryani. The Santana Row and San Francisco places always did this so well, giving us an incredible smoky and bold kadhai paneer, buttery khasta garlic naan, and a beautiful aromatic biryani second to none. Very surprisingly, this location is a joke in comparison. We went here twice, and both times the food was problematic. It was pretty cold, flavorless, and oily, almost as if someone removed the souls of the dishes we ordered lol. What are you doing? How are you going to charge so much for soulless food? I wonder if this location was good in the past (I see some compelling reviews from years ago), but I suspect the people who think this location is any good at this point probably don't have very high expectations (or expectations at all) for Indian food... read more

We had Birthday celebration in Amber India party room for about 45 people with an open bar and every one enjoyed the food and drinks. Food was all vegetarian and exceptional in flavour, quality and taste. I have been here for a couple of private events in the hall upstairs where there were around 80-100 people. The space is very nice and well maintained. There is a little stage which can be used for the host or performances, photography etc. The sound system seemed good too. Service was good. For starters there are options like veg samosas, green kababs, sheekh kababs, cauliflower manchurian. I thought their main course items were really delicious- daal bukhara, butter chicken, kadai paneer, malai kofta, mixed veg entree, even their naan is good. I was a little disappointed with the dessert, especially the kulfi and gajar halwa- not enough sugar! I think this is a great option for a small special event like a graduation party or birthday party and I do recommend it for those who want an Indian venue. read more

I had such high hopes for this place but got very disappointed. We - 2 people - ordered a whole Tandoori chicken with garlic naan as take out. The order took 45 minutes to prepare which was a bummer to begin with. When I picked it up, I immediately thought, this can't be what I've ordered - according to the size and weight. I looked into it and the portion of chicken was pretty small. I asked one of the staff members and he said, that's half a chicken. When I said, well, I ordered a whole chicken, he replied, Oh no, this is the whole chicken, your order is correct. What??? I imagine that other places would at least take a minute to look into the order. At home, I had a closer look and tried to assemble the whole chicken anatomically. Well, I got some weird chicken with 1 small thigh and some pieces of meat but not nearly a whole chicken. It's more a game chicken than a chicken chicken. The taste was good but the chicken was pretty dry. It came with two chutneys which were good. All in all super disappointing for the price of $27! The garlic naan was pretty disappointing as well. It was one piece of naan (for $6!) with a tiny amount of garlic. Well, the good thing about the garlic naan is, you can kiss without feeling bad about garlic breath... Very disappointing. Took a reservation here for Valentines Day All bookings were open even 2 days before so i thought it wouldn't be that crowded. Boy was I wrong... We ran a bit late.. 15 mins so i called and the manager said that it was okay and that they would wait for us. Arriving there were a ton of people waiting to be seated! But the manager acknowledged us and tried his best to get us seated. We had to wait 20 mins or so but wasn't too bad.. They took us to an overflow room downstairs which was pretty cute. The live music wasn't down here but they had nice relaxing spanish music in this one. The service was great.. one server recommended the pinot noir and it was so good.. food and drinks took awhile but it was worth it and one drink was so late it was on the house. My favorite was the samosa and indian chopped salad! Best samosa i've tried! The salad was fresh and a great healthy starter for the heavier curries to come. The chicken tikka was my favorite entree with the garlic and basil naan. Didn't taste the basil too much. Overall this was a great "upscale" indian restaurant we got to try for the first time and i think we will def try to come back again! :) read more

We had an absolutely worst experience at Amber for Mother's day dinner. We have been going to Amber for over 20 years and never had faced any issues; food and service were always excellent. We were a large party and they had one person serving the whole patio, needless to say even getting water refills took 30 minutes, I guess when service charges are already included, service takes a hike. The dal takda was mushy and looked like it was leftover from their lunch buffet, butter chicken was bland, rogan josh had a smell, bhindi didn't have any flavor and breads were dry. We didn't make a fuss since it was Mother's day celebration but called back after couple of days to speak with the owner. The manager, Ravi, said that it is something that he will look into and will get back to us. Apparently they had a executive chef change but that shouldn't impact service or food quality. Needless to say, he didn't bother to respond after 2 weeks. Looks like when you are a popular restaurant, customer complaints don't matter!! read more

We've been patrons of Amber for over 15 years and kept coming back because we like the food. This weekend, we went for their lunch buffet and were sorely disappointed. We came at 2 pm for the buffet, still well within closing time of 2:30 pm. The rice was almost over. The goat curry only had curry remaining, no goat and other preparations were cold. I'm sorry, but if you're going to provide sub-standard service at 2 pm, perhaps you should just close entry at that time? Something is different. Not the same attention to detail and I hope it isn't going down the same cost cutting and indifference path that so many Indian restaurants in the South Bay have taken on their way to closure. I come here all the time and the food never disappoints. I feel that before the pandemic it had a fancier feel and ambiance to it. Since the pandemic it has become more of a casual dining atmosphere which is ok. Their weekend brunch buffet is where it's at! I think it's only $25. The food is very authentic and the flavors are bold and traditional. The reason why I am only giving four stars is that parking is hard. You have to park in a parking lot and pay. Also, trying to get an Uber to drop you off there is impossible as well. It's in a little alley (nice alley, not scary) so the Uber would drop you off and you still need to walk a bit. And getting an Uber to pick you up is hard too. Here's a tip: Get dropped off and picked up at Bloomingdales. Overall, great place. Good food and nice service. I've been visiting Amber for years. When I was travelling to the US for work, it was my regular Saturday night dinner. Now that I live in Mountain View, having Amber a walk away is a real treat. It was great of Ravi the help organise a group meal for me and 16 neighbours. I've always loved Amber's food, and coming in such a large group allowed us to order a huge range of dishes for the table, and I got to sample a much wider range from the menu. Everything tasted fabulous. Service is great and everybody in the group was really impressed. Five stars all round! As a Brit, a "proper curry" really is the taste of home!
