Pro: The cakes were AMAZING! Looked amazing and tasted delicious. Several people asked "where did you get this?!". Con: I went there is person to place my order for a special event. Confirmed the date and order 3x while there b/c the woman taking the order kept asking me the same questions repeatedly. Called 2 weeks before, paid for order in full and confirmed the date needed. Called 1 week before, confirmed the date and order. At pick up none of my order was ready and they had the date wrong! The special milestone cake I ordered could not be made for the party! I asked for two other cakes that were there (smaller) to make up the size of what I ordered. Was told "There is a price difference that you owe." I said, "You messed up my order, I think you need to eat the cost." She checked with the manager who agreed with me. In the end we got the only two cakes there so it worked out. But, NOT happy that after repeated confirmations they got the date wrong, nor that they asked me to pay the difference. read more

What a nice place! I loved the little experience I had there today, the girl in front and the girl who makes the sandwiches are very friendly, I had no idea what to eat and with the options she gave me I could find my breakfast. I also bought something new to wear and I definitely think I'll be back. The environment looks very clean and fresh, the showcases were clean and full of products. Very good in general. The quality of the pastries at this place was disappointing. I purchased three pieces--one for myself, one for my girlfriend, and one for my mother. All three of them commented that the pastries were dry and somewhat hard to bite into. Curious to verify, I tried one myself and agreed with their assessment; the pastries were extremely dry and tasted as if they had been sitting out for several days. This experience has convinced me that I will not be returning to this establishment again. read more

The cannolis were awesome. Other than that, it was a lackluster experience. No pricing for most food, no names on the pastries to know what is what. But short staffed and busy enough that it's not like you can get the personal touch of having a helping hand from staff. The girl did try though. The Italian circle cookie with the jelly, couldn't tell you the name, that was very good too. If I knew the area and could find other bakery's, I don't know if I'd be back. I go to this bakery for the cheesecake and birthday cake but lately their cake consists mostly too much whip cream the outside layer of whip cream to thick I wish they don't spread as much usually end up throwing cake out also they're not making the cheesecake as before and the staff they have know not willing to help I ask one of the employees for number 22 candles she said no more and she continues talking to the other employee when I payed I said to the other young lady you sure you don't have more candies she right away pull a box out with number 2 need to find me another bakery this one not worth spending my money because they are pricey and not customers friendly at all read more

Was a delight when I initially found this place when I moved to Stratford four years ago. Quality has gone down substantially. My wife went there this morning and ordered 7 breakfast sandwiches. What we got was the scraps. Bacon was burnt and broken up into little pieces. Scrambled eggs were absolutely atrocious. I was going to slide and just move on but I realized two things. 1. This is Father's Day and it's my day to be a little bit of a diva 2. I actually called to air my grievances and was greeted with the most, " I don't care" employee. I broke down my dissatisfaction and received silence. There was no omg we are sorry or how can we make this better. I asked to speak to a manager or owner to which they said someone would call me back during the week. This employee would not tell me who I could expect a call from or when. I asked who made the sandwiches and whether it was the same person who normally makes the sandwiches and she replied, "it's normally anyone who is free at the moment " in a condescending tone. Prices have gone up and customer service has gone down and I cannot and will not accept patronizing a business who makes mistakes and doesn't take said mistake as an opportunity to right the mistake. read more

Nice little bakery in Stratford that has a broad range of pastry, bread, cakes, cookies, etc... I went for the cannoli's and according to Wikipedia; "Cannoli consist of tube-shaped shells of fried pastry dough, filled with a sweet, creamy filling usually containing ricotta cheese and chopped succade." Anyway the cannoli from Ambrosia are pretty good (maybe because I have no reference point of eating one before). I can't say it is a great bakery, but it's not bad either. We attempted to get cheesecakes from here for our wedding. At first they were very nice and said to come back once we picked out a cake stand to determine what size we'll need. Once we came back to talk about sizes the staff working there said they couldn't help us. They said the cheesecakes only come in large and medium and there was no way for them to determine what the measurements of those 2 sizes are. The staff refused be even a little bit helpful and were completely dismissive. We used to come here for holiday and birthday desserts but I'll never go back. BUT on the bright side their refusal to help forced us to try a different bakery which was awesome. read more

Without a doubt the worst possible service I've ever received at a bakery. I ordered 40 cannolis and 40 small cheese cakes over the phone for my wedding. Later that week I called to confirm the order and to make sure I got everything right- they confirmed the order was correct. When I called a third time to ask what time I could pick everything up no one answered the phone. I then went in person, and found that one of the employees was refusing to answer the phone, and then picked it up just long enough to say "Can you hold?" before putting them on hold indefinitely. This same person confirmed my order was correct a second time. While there I asked for a copy of the receipt, since I'd paid over the phone. They refused, stating that they couldn't separate it from the order. The day of my wedding and the bakery only had 20 small cheese cakes to give me and insisted that's what we had ordered. A friend was picking everything up for us, and they ultimately had to leave with the incorrect amount. We then ran out of cheesecakes at our reception. This place really needs to work on training their employees in customer service. read more

This is the most convenient bakery in town, for me, so I do regularly go there. They have the best hotdog rolls around, I think. Close to how I remember the French bakery ones. Hard rolls are pretty good, as well. Other than that, I find their pastries to be less than worth eating the extra calories. Fillings are scant and some lacking enough flavor, icing a bit light, dough not very rich, always just not quite there. Oh, this place runs out of hotdog rolls about a third of the time I go there for them. Anyways, over the past year or two, started getting sandwiches there; wow, what a find. Simple, but hearty sandwiches on a fresh roll at a great price. I started going most every day. Either for breakfast or lunch and some days for both. Well, recently a sign went up announcing that there was new management. Well, the counterhelp was changed, but everything looked the same. But when I paid for my sandwich and picked up the bag, I noticed something big had changed! The bag felt like there was barely a roll in there, let alone a full sandwich! LOL. Get rid of the staff - specifically the young girls. They're consistently rude & full of attitude and that's about the only thing they're consistent with. They also like to whisper and give looks to each other while customers are in front of them, not a professional or good look AT ALL. Also, if you're going to have signature sandwiches you should probably know what to put in them. I grew up in Stratford and never really appreciated what a great bakery Ambrosia's was. When I bought my own place within walking distance I frequented the bakery much more often. Every time I was invited to someone's home for dinner I stopped by for delicious desserts to gift to the host. I have never been let down...the éclairs and cream puffs (half whipped cream half custard) are my favorites. I have had many éclairs from many places and I can honestly say none of them hold a candle to these. They are made just the way I like them. The blueberry crumb cake is to die for. The fruit tarts are on point! Some of the favorites of those I buy for are: marble cheesecake brownie, brownie with nuts, lemon squares, and cannoli. Their apple pie is also great. Ambrosia is a pretty cool place. It's situated on the busy Boston Post Road, so it's hard to miss. I've never had a horrible experience there except for that one time a rock-hard cookie latched onto my molars. I have no idea what that was about, but I recovered. Never had a bad tart. It's all pretty good. The service is okay as well. They explain everything in detail and know what they're doing. The cheesecake is really really good. It's more moist than others, but I would definitely want that over a crumbly one. Can you even imagine? Powdered cheesecake. Don't ever invent that. read more

Really cold, uncaring services. I've only gone in a handful of times and the young ladies at the counter don't seem to like their jobs. I went in today and again the young lady doesn't seem to know how to crack a smile. Her answers to my questions were short and I felt like my business was irritating to her. Stuffed breads used to be very good, especially for the price. Now there is absolutely no stuffing in them. Ordered a pepperoni and cheese and they forgot the cheese. Would be ok if there was some pepperoni in it but it was paper thin. Also ordered the eggplant and same thing you could barely see the eggplant. Basically paid $9.50 for a sub without any meat.
