After visiting a sick relative in the hospital down in Kingston, my family and I had planned on catching a late lunch/early breakfast at Miss Lucy's Kitchen in downtown Saugerties. We fell a little behind schedule, though, and ended up getting there after it closed. The Ambrosia Diner was the first decent-looking place we came across on Route 9W, and it served fine in a crunch. I got breakfast food (I ALWAYS get breakfast food at diners): French toast and two eggs over easy. The eggs were cooked just right, neither watery nor overcooked. The French Toast was nice and fluffy Challah Bread so I felt like I got my money's worth out of that, too. My dad got a cornbeef sandwich (since it was Saint Patrick's Day) which he liked but wished was larger. My mother got roast beef and gravy and seemed to like that just fine. (Trust me, everyone would have heard if she hadn't). Not the most atmospheric place in the world, but a very solid roadside pit-stop. read more

Stopped in for a quick bite. Wife orderd Onion Soup and grilled cheese, I ordered a corned beeg ruben. Wife loved the OS, not too salty, onoins well cooked and excellent bread in the crock. My ruben was not huge, but the corned beef was meaty, very tender with just the right amount of dressing and kraut. We took the GC home, which my son said was great. The waitress was fast, friendly with just the right amount of being around. Been a long time since I have been here, but makes me want to go back. read more

After a couple times coming to this place, I'm continually impressed by the quality and genuine love the staff and owners put into the food and service. I always try and get something different and am never disappointed. I could swear everything in this place is homemade or at least that's the way it tastes. The servers make you feel like you've been coming there for years and are always speedy with refills and seeing if you need anything. Prices are great and affordable. This is an adequate diner. I really don't have much positive to say about the several experiences I've had here. The best experiences are mediocre, and the worst are downright awful. The service is usually ok, but on my last visit my server Melissa was so surly and unpleasant I thought I was being Punk'd. On one visit, my chicken sandwich was so tough and dry I could not even eat it. I try to steer clear of this place unless I'm absolutely desperate. This is the worst diner I have ever been to. It is over priced and have had terrible wait staff. Issues: 1- put ice in my chocolate milk 2-ordered a cheese omelette came with no cheese so I asked for cheese on it so they took it back and gave me a slice of american cheese on the side. 3-Asked for a Caesar salad with no olives (I'm allergic) got a salad wit olives they took it back and just took off the olives on top. read more

The Ambrosia Diner is your standard Greek diner with more or less the standard Greek diner menu. It's consistent quality and service keeps me going back, probably about 2-4 times per month (for almost 20 years). Usually my wife would prefer to go somewhere "new" but since I never know what I want to eat until I get there the diner offers the most choices for me. I've never had an issue with the manager before, in fact one time (and one time only) we got seated and no waitress appeared for about 20 minutes. I was just going to leave but my wife went up to the manager and explained the situation and not only were we served quickly but we were comped desert. That and an apology seemed to be a reasonable solution. In there defense, they were pretty insanely busy at the time, and it might have been a holiday. If your in the mood for some Greek diner food, you can't go wrong here! read more

This is not the diner I would recommend. The food is overpriced for what you get and half the time I went the order was wrong. The help is not as polite as I would think they would be for the amount of business the good location brings them. the wait staff is terrible the bakery is dirty and old pastries ive worked here and know for a fact the baker is filthy picking his nose and other body parts without washing. the only thing that you can trust is good is the soup the chef is clean and he kniws his soups anything else well eat at your own risk. read more

Came here for a quick lunch break with my girlfriend. Service was fast and the food was ok. The coffee wasn't anything to write home about and wasn't filled as much as we would have liked it. My mother had raved over this place many times so figured we would give it a shot. I ordered the sliders with fries and my girlfriend ordered the Caesar salad. The sliders were just meat, cheese and little rolls but they were tasty. I needed to add salt to them for more flavor though. The price was ok for amount they give. The Caesar salad was very good though. Seemed like fresh romaine, real parm cheese shaved on top and the dressing didn't drown the salad. Plus the croutons were very crispy and fresh. I must say that the diner itself was by far the cleanest diner I have been in throughout the Catskill Hudson valley area and I frequent them a lot. The staff was friendly and not overly imposing on us which may be why the coffee wasn't getting filled as much but we were able to be seated, order, have two cups of coffee, eat and I still had time to spare getting back to work. I would go back and give them another shot. See if they can step it up even more. I'll let you know! read more

This is exactly what a traveler is looking for when they stop at a small-town diner. Gleaming chrome building, tempting dessert case inside the door, classic booths and diner design. The menu is vast, we ordered Greek and were happy with everything, with way more food than we could eat (the spanikopita was even better reheated the next day). I tried ordering a meal so it could be ready when we arrived at the diner. But first of all no one called us to tell us our food was ready. So when we eventually went to the diner & sat down and said we called in an order. the waitress went in the back and said our food is boxed up as a to go order. And we were like ok..can we get it to eat here ? And so she went back and came out with our food & I couldn't believe my eyes. It was still in the containers boxed up and in a bag and she puts the bag on the table for us. And Doesn't even take it out of the bag or offer us plates and gave us a stink attitude as well. Our food was cold and the customer service was bad. We were starving so we ate it. But the Food would have been better if it was hot. read more

My girlfriend and I were in town to do some shopping when we decided to try out Ambrosia Diner. We both ordered paninis and mine was horrible. It hardly had any dressing, was very bland, and had warm wilted lettuce. I don't know why you would ever put lettuce on a warm/hot sandwich. It was also the weirdest panini I had ever seen. The bread must have been an inch or so high, I swear it was a step away from Texas toast. My main issue however was the service. Our waitress took over 12 minutes to do the "check in" which by that time, my girlfriend had just about completed her lunch. You could clearly see I had only taken about 2 bites and I told her that I thought it was gross and explained why. Now normally, in a restaurant that has decent customer service, I would have been asked if there was anything she could do, or have been asked if I wanted something else. All I got was an "oh..." and she walked away never to return for another 10 or so minutes so see if I was all through with my sandwich which looked the same way it did when I told her it was disgusting. She brings the check over and I am being charged for it. As a customer, I should never have had to even have asked someone to take it off my bill...that should be a given right there. So I have to now wait until she can "see if that is possible", and she finally comes back with a new check however, when I cash out at the front counter, I have another "Miss Attitude" that I have to deal with because she was the one who had to adjust my check. I would never go there ever in my life again for any reason after going through that experience nor would I ever recommend it to anybody. Would have been better off going to Burger King. read more

We went in for lunch and ordered the Philly cheesesteak with fries and a meatball parm sub with fries. The Philly came out in a hotdog bun, for $9.00 and the meatball sub came out as a Chicken cutlet parm on a roll. We asked for napkins and never got them so had to take them from the empty table next to us. we both finished everything and left hungry :( For lunch with drinks it came out to be $27 without the tip... Everything was tasty, economical, looked, the place seemed clean and friendly. The next day I decided to order something from my hotel room and pick it up on my way back to the office. Service was great, no waiting, had the half fried spring chicken, always liked this as it comes with soup and french fries, but I liked it a whole lot more at 6.99 than the 12.99 it goes for now, 1 scrawney wing, leg and thigh, then the fourth piece was actually more chicken back than an actual chicken breast. French fries totaled about a dozen in that little tiny round plate they use to serve a sauce, no putting on the little dish did not make me feel like I got a lot of them. Chicken orzo soup was great as usual. Dude you have your prices jacked up for the tourist trade, us locals can't afford it, I only go to your restaurant once every 6 months now as it is, I guess I will order Chinese, its cheaper, Oh and better. read more

I eat here for dinner often. I think the building is clean, and well kept. Several years ago they added an enclosed ramp on the north side of the building (I think its the north side going by route 9W) so the entrance looks to be very handicap friendly. Pretty standard diner food. weekly specials. Usually pretty quick in and out, lots of seating and a counter area. Plenty of parking in rear. read more

It is truly a sad state of affairs when a man of considerable girth, such as myself, is not shone the gratitude you would expect from the food service industry. The, no doubt uneducated , waitstaff at the Ambrosia Diner however have proved there is a small glimmer of hope for this despicable Business. A kindly old waitress, whose name escapes me, became the first I've ever actually felt compelled to tip. I had come in for a milkshake, and before it came out I had eaten all of the jelly packets, which left me wanting. Despite her waining intellect, she was able to pick up on my despair and provided me with more. Unfortunately I was full before the milkshake arrived, and I would have refused to pay had she not shown me such hospitality. The tip I left was under a dollar as a dont't carry much cash on me (I've grown too large for most types of pant and have been forced to wear pocketless sweatpants) , but had this not been the case I would have certainly given her a small fortune. read more
