I practically live here. Really amazing that my school have some great discount so I get to go to the movies here quite often. I'd rather take the t for 30 minutes to come all the way here than to walk for 5 minutes to Regal (Fenway). AMC is just much nicer. Bigger seats, and the arm rest will lift up so you can cuddle with your S.O.; If you are single you can cuddle with a big tub of popcorn. Theater is always clean, not sticky seats, have lots of time available so you can always be able to watch the latest hits. I seriously went to see GOTG 4 times here with 4 different friends because I'm weird, and it's a really good theater, and that's a really great movies... read more

I go to this theater all the time. Almost all of my friends live in either Cambridge or Back Bay, so this theater is super convenient to meet at, and about 5 steps from the T. They have tons of movie ticket machines in the lobby, so I rarely have to stand in line to get my ticket from the ticket counter- you can easily order them with a credit card in just a few minutes, or order them ahead of time and "pick them up" on the machine. The place does get crowded, especially Friday and Saturday nights, but they have over 20 theaters over 2 floors, so it's not too bad. The food/drink is expensive, like most movie theaters. And when one of my friends wanted coffee before our movie, she was 4th in line... and waited over TWENTY minutes in line. But the popcorn and pretzel bites are delish. The bathrooms are sometimes clean, sometimes disgusting, and missing TP about a third of the time. Also, I went to see a movie there on Friday, and spotted two different mice running around under the seats. And even though mice don't scare me, I almost screamed when I picked up my purse to go to the bathroom mid-movie and a giant white mouse ran out at me. Considering how many people put their food on the floor during a packed, no-empty-seats showing... that's pretty gross. So 3 stars for being convenient (right next to the T), having lots of options on playing times and tons of theaters... but if they don't fix their mouse problem, I'll probably start making the Harvard Square theater my default. read more

It's really hard to do a review for a place that you go to on a weekly basis. so let's talk about a few points: Value - I listed this first because who doesn't want to know about how much it will cost to watch a movie. So, if you use fandango to get your tickets, you're also paying a fee - obviously this isn't anything to do with the theater since they're not the ones charging it. having said that, use their kiosk and buy your tickets ahead of time to avoid the fee if you're downtown anyways or just buy it when you get there so you don't have to deal with the line. --- regular movie is about $11. this doesn't include IMAX or 3D and IMAX 3D. --- if you want to see a 3D movie, it's another couple of bucks and --- if IMAX the same --- and if it's IMAX 3D, even more -- around $15, i think. I think because i haven't paid to see a movie in a while. Movie screenings are great!! :) Service - The cashiers seem to be nice and courteous. the ushers generally are nice as well and greet the customers with a smile. The managers are generally helpful if you have a problem, and they would compensate you if you've experienced bad service in the theaters. read more

It's like a lose-lose situation with these type of city establishments. It's a great location, smack dab in the middle of the city. Getting there via public transportation is easy as pie. Everything else however sucks because of, well, it's location. Because of it's prime rental spot, the tickets and food have a slight upcharge. The service is scatter and, honestly, look as if they'd rather work as a pinata for a kid's birthday party, being hung upside down and getting hit with a wooden stick. I guess I would too during the peak times - they look like they need to be at 5 places at once and just shy of a nuclear meltdown. Seats are okay, place is a bit dirty (due to lack of adequate staff to address an obvious popcorn spill in the middle of the hallway for example), and there are tons of theaters so the variety is typically good. I've been going to this movie theatre since I was 5 years old. It's one of those Boston staples. It pains me to write this review because I have so many fond memories here and the decor on the second floor is really wonderful, not to mention the lovely staff. However... I have, on THREE different occasions, seen mice in the viewing areas. The first two times was during the movie showing and I saw the mice going down the dimly lit stairs on the sides of the seats. The most recent time, about three weeks ago, the movie had just ended and there was a mouse eating popcorn on the floor, and it didn't move (!) as people walked right by it. That goes to show how comfortable they are around people! After the first and second times seeing mice in the theatre, I decided not to write reviews because I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, thinking it was being addressed. However, after the third time, this is looking more and more like an infestation. Management needs to handle this issue because it has made the idea of going back to that theatre almost repulsive. I mean, when you're sitting in a big dark room watching a film, do you want to be thinking about what's crawling between your feet?! read more

Pros -WIDE selection of movies and films. Seems to be showing that indie gem or smaller drama you can't find anywhere else! -Extensive showtimes -Convenient downtown location and accessible to public transpiration. Cons -Frequented by rowdy tweens/college kids (and the occasional person without a home). So if you're seeing a mainstream blockbuster, be prepared to feel like you're chaperoning a field trip. -Not exactly clean. I've seen mice in the aisles. If it wasn't for its great selection of flicks, I'd give AMC Boston Common 19 a 2. But since this is the only Boston-based theatre showing interesting movies, I'm going with a 3. We're avid moviegoers and have long been regulars at the Regal Fenway theater in town. We liked that one because it was close and because Regal has a decent rewards program. But after a move put us closer to this AMC and after learning about their half-price tickets before noon on the weekends, we decided to give the AMC theater at Boston Common a shot. Boy was that a mistake. Many of the movie theaters we've gone to in the last three years have updated their seats to offer more comfort and more room. This theater has not done that, which was a bit of a disappointment. It would have been easy to look past the fact that the theater is a bit dated in its decor and furniture, but what was hard to look past was how messy the place was. Every trash can in the entire theater was overflowing with garbage, and the floor was littered with wrappers, empty containers, and popcorn. Worse, though, was the smell: stale popcorn and feet. Yes, feet. Mind you, this was 11AM on Sunday morning -- clearly it hadn't been cleaned from the previous night. Unfortunately, this rang true of the restrooms, too, which were horrid. I'm all for a bargain, but not for the trade-off this theater offers. Instead, I think we'll keep making the hike over to Regal Fenway. read more

If only for the sake of convenience of meeting up in Boston would I go here with friends... The iconic large Loews logo can be seen from far away and there are several floors of theaters down long corridors some of them have nice views of the Common. Often in the long hallways they also have these fun movie props or displays if you want to take some photos. Aside from it's convenient location right across from Boston Common/Boylston T and large theaters there aren't too many other positives I can present for you. Unfortunately this location has not been renovated to the comfy reclining chairs like the other AMCs. This is probably just for the convenience of fitting as many bodies as they can in here. As can be expected the concessions are wildly expensive here. The theaters aren't always the cleanest but at least the bathrooms are still usable unlike AMC Framingham. Despite it's overall mediocrity, I can't say that I haven't enjoyed watching movies with friends here. read more

I've been coming to this theatre since it opened years ago. I don't mind it because it's right on the red line and close to lots in downtown Boston. There were times when the picture quality was messed up, but customer service was quick to give you a refund or a free ticket as an apology on their end. This theatre is a good one and our go-to spot since the one in Harvard Square closed about a year or so ago. Tip: Get here early and get your tickets then go grab lunch/dinner beforehand at BK, McDonald's, the Thinking Cup, e.t.c. It's best to do this and avoid the high prices of the food at the concession stands. :) read more

Before I went to college, I used to go to a different AMC movie theater, also one that used to be just Loews. Now, since that I am away at college, this is the nearest one for me. I find that there is nothing wrong with this place, nor is there anything spectacular. It is a well maintained, clean, chain owned cinema. Yes, they do not have the cheapest prices, especially for popcorn, but I think this is pretty common in chain movie theaters. Since I get discount tickets, and don't particularly buy popcorn, price is not an issue. read more

3.5 stars. Pretty standard theater sizes but there's a bunch of theaters inside. The staff is friendly and there's almost always a crowd. I went around noon on a Friday and the movie I saw (a few weeks old already) still had a full theater. Chairs were comfortable and rock with stadium seating. This is one of the worst AMC theaters I've ever been to. It looks like rundown nasty shopping mall.. old escalators. Dark stinky lobby. But most importantly - the seats are just awful.... they are old and stinky and I'm not sure they were even cleaned ever... The theater atmosphere is very grim. Which is a huge deal because the only reason you go to movies these days is to get an experience - large screen, comfy huge reclining seats, 3D experience. This theater is such a shame for downtown Boston. So disappointing to see that. To add: the night I went the theater was a mess. Fire alarm went off, and employees had no idea what's going on. Tip for the management: make sure your team is up to date on emergency preparedness. That alarm was false. But what if not?? read more

I asked ticket lady where the food area was three times before she scanned my ticket because auditorium 2 is downstairs and I didn't know if I could go back there and there would be an elevator or something to food? Or whether I had to get food first. She then scans my ticket then asks for my id (stubs member) and then she tells me like I'm an idiot when there is no signage. (Wanted to make sure I got my food before I went into the theater). I get to the food where I preordered my food from the app so it'd be ready by the time I got there (cool concept). Except she didn't have record of it so I showed them. And she says....well I can make it...but they'll be dry....what are you talking about?? What is going to be dry...? I can wait for it to be made properly...? She is flustered and says...well the hot dog. We normally steam it but...it'll be dry. At which point there is only one person who can help and he has to run around the counter three times to get water from the drink vending machines. At which point I just did it the last time. I've seen a TON of movies at this location and it's my preferred one. Why? 1) The location - RIGHT next to the Boylston T stop. I live on the Green line, so it's perfect for me! 2) It's one of the nicer theaters - stadium seating, Digital Projection, IMAX. The seats have individual cup holders and arm rests that pull up (make sure you don't have a drink in the cup holder if you pull the arm rest up!). The seats are tall and comfy, with a good amount of leg room. 3) Plenty of bathrooms, so you rarely have to wait in line, if you know which one to go to. Concession-wise, it's not the best. The upstairs concession stand doesn't have spectacular popcorn (I've heard the downstairs one is better & fresher) and they have another one that's never even open! For bigger movies, they wheel a concession stand into the theater itself, but I think they charge a bit more for that.... Concessions are a bit pricey here too, but no more than other theaters that I can think of, and as an AMC Movie Watcher, you can save some money. Price-wise, I believe it is a pricier theater than others in the area. But we use passes or buy online - or find some other way to save a bit of money (hello matinees!). read more

This movie theater..just WOW. This is a two-story movie theater mwith escalators that take you to each floor. The first floor is where you buy tickets and the second floor is for purchasing snacks and watching movies. The snacks are directly to your right as you get off the escalator. There are barely any lines becasue there were so many cashiers ready to take orders. The area allocated to snacks was immense. The movies are down a long hallway that is dedicated to represent architecture from the 1920s. The carpet is red and decorated and there are lights on the walls. Further down the hallway, there are two more hallways where the movies can be found. Depending on which room you're in, you go to either hallway. The rooms where the movies are shown are fairly large. The chairs are cushiony but they are sorta uncomfortable when you sit on them for a long time. I paid $12 for a regular movie on Friday afternoon. The price of the ticket increases as the movie quality gets better, such as Imax. A bit pricey but nonetheless, a very nice theater to watch your favorite movie! Highly recommended. read more

Love the fact that it has 19 screens with many movies to choose from. The downside? It's filthy. I get it. The theatre is located in the city of Boston and as such there are a ton of customers that visit the venue everyday. However, this theatre and the neglect of proper cleaning and sanitation has led to a rodent infestation. I've seen rodents on my last 3 visit in the theatre. My last visit I felt something on my foot while watching a film. Looking down it was a mouse. On other occasions I've see them scurrying around the floor inside and outside the screening area. I would hate to image what the food prep and concession areas look like if mice can be seen out in the open. A night out at the movies isn't cheap. The price of 2 adult tickets is equivalent to 3 months Netflix or any other streaming service. With that I get the comfort of my own home, inexpensive options for snacks and no rodents. read more

This place is huge compared to any AMC I've ever been too. I came to see Pet Semetary and the staff was very friendly. The escalators were not working so they let you walk up them or take the elevator. It was kinda nice walking. Lots of stairs tho. read more

The AMC Loews Boston Common is what a 3 star rating was designed for. It serves a purpose, and isn't amazing or terrible. If you want to see a movie, this is a go to for many people because of its location downtown and near several MBTA options. However, the theaters are older (no reclining seats, for example) and are often not as clean as you want them to be. On more than one occasion, the floor around the seats were sticky and littered with food. However, their early morning movies are very affordably priced (~$7 instead of $12-15 for a matinee or evening shown), which is a nice option. read more

I have been coming here for a couple years - convenient place to see the current movies. Honestly, it could probably use some updating in the public spaces. Apparently some of the theaters have been updated with reclining seating but not sure how many of those are here because it is seldom. Regardless of the age of the theater, there are some things that the management could tighten up - to give that better customer service. First, why do the ticket machines in the lobby seem to be out of order of out of paper. If they don't want you to use the ticket machines - just take them out. Second, I as there a couple of weeks ago and the first floor men's bathroom was disgusting. The smell of urine - what had happened in there...it wasn't a one instance occurrence - not sure when that bathroom had been services. Where is the staff - chit chatting behind the desk... read more

From the lobby and the outside, this AMC looks like one of the best theaters in the country. However, when you walk into one of the actual theaters, it's not hard to tell that it is actually run down and not a great place to watch a movie. Broken arm rests, uncomfortable seats, and dirty theaters are the standard at the AMC right downtown. For over $14 /ticket, you'd really expect the theater management to get things under control and create a much better moviegoing experience than what is currently being presented. If you have the time, take the green line to Fenway (D line) and go to the Regal. With reclining, comfortable leather seats and clean theaters, at least you don't feel like you're being completely ripped off when you go see a movie. If you don't have the time, then you'll just have to settle with AMC unless they get their act together. read more

Husband wanted to see Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Save your money because it sucks! The Loews Theatre in Boston Common is easy to get to from the Green Line get off at Boylston St & walk across the street. Evening ticket price is $10.50 each as of 5/24/08. For 2 tickets $21. We bought the ticket on the street level, then you hand the ticket to someone to tear off a piece, then take the escalators upstairs. We had to stand in line for 30 min before we could get into the theatre I think it was #14 (can't remember). Once in the theatre had to wait some more. Mad rush to get good seats. They have a cart that sells candy, popcorn, soda, & bottled water and crazy inflated prices. I think he got a Diet Coke bottle for like $3. Separate bathrooms available nearby on the top floor, didn't notice any on the lower level. read more

The location's great for commuters - right by a T station (Boylston, Green line). I like that there are some tables and chairs by the main concession area on the 2nd floor. A great place to wait for the rest of your party. I don't like how the bathrooms often have at least one stuffed toilet, and a general distasteful aroma in the air... read more

My fiancee and I love the movies! It is one of our favorite things to do together. He just moved to Boston and one of the first things he did was find this movie theater. He loves this place! When I was up visiting he took me to see Zero Dark Thirty (amazing movie!) and this AMC is so neat! Everything in Boston has character, including the movie theater! It is a 3 story building and one wall is completely glass so you can see the city as your ride the escalator on your way up to the theater. There is something about how this AMC is decorated that makes you feel swept away. I know it is a chain but this place has something special. The actual theaters are very large and I have found them to be very clean as well. The employees are also incredibly nice and respectful. Although I highly suggest you buy tickets in advance for any night of the week. It seems to be the only movie theater around. If you do buy them online, be sure to become an AMC member becasuse there is so fee when ordering online. read more

Right near Park Street and Boylston Street stations. Plenty of restaurants nearby for a pre-movie meal. It's a huge theater so they always have all the latest flicks. Keep an eye on the newspaper since they often host pre-release screenings as well. Had a bunch of obnoxious teenagers in the theater tonight and a crying baby in my theater tonight. My friends and I complained to a friendly manager and got free passes so it wound up being an ok night. Make sure to dress in layers since it's always cold. read more

The IMAX is the worst I have been to. Forget about recliners, the seat doesn't move an inch. I will pay for your tickets if your neck isn't begging you to leave. Adding to the misery the rows are not properly aligned vertically so there is every chance of you watching someone's heads along with your favorite stars. read more

I am an AMC A-List Plus member (I know, I know...look how fancy!) I say that because i go to a lot of AMC theaters, mostly in and around NY/Long Island. But I do like to go to movies when i get out of town. This AMC is pretty bottom of the barrel. I went to a matinee to see A Star Is Born and it looked like the place was closed. Besides getting my pass scanned at the entrance...it looked like there was nobody else working there. If there was a snack bar open, i didn't see it. The theater itself was dirty and when the pre-movie entertainment started I noticed that the screen was dim..i mean really dim, to the point that you could barely see face details in the darker moments. I left to try to find someone, but....it was a ghost town in the hallway. The dimness kept throughout the movie and was more than distracting. I said something to the ticket taker on my way out but what was a 20 year-old minimum wage worker going to do about it? I did see the movie again a few days later and it was most definitely the movie theater. read more

*UPDATE* Yeah, this place got even worse. Went back to use the re-entry passes and there was even more trash everywhere and employees just standing around talking to each other. For whatever reason, there were multiple groups of high school aged kids just sitting on the floor outside of some of the theaters and blocking the walkway. Employees didn't say a word. Definitely sticking to the Regal Fenway. This place just does not care. It's pathetic. read more
