It's a decent movie theatre. We go there sometimes since our relatives live around East Brunswick. It's a nice place with 18 theatres and plenty of parking. I have not seen any AMC theatres to complain about. I will continue to go to movies; home theatres cannot compare to the large screens and outstanding sounds in the movie theatres. Popcorn and drinks, and I am all set. We probably go to the theatre every couple of months. I recommend these theatres.

A cinema hall that reminds me of the old library in my neighborhood, from my school days - it lacked the shine and gloss, yet would have a place, a facility to run, books to sell or rent and member people not shying away from it. This place has abundant parking place, a great decor, but not-so-glamorous/modern looking foyer as you enter, modestly cleaned washrooms, staff who don't glare at you and ticket deals that are eye-candies on certain days. The movies play with good and video but you still yearn for a better seating as this business still seem to be in the medieval times of non-recliners, some of which are bit torn and look like they need some serious cleaning. The sound proofing could be better as we could hear overlapping sounds from our neighboring screen.

IMAX theatre 17 was perfectly calibrated for John Wick Chapter 4 -- a pulse-pounding, non-stop action film about a bunch of rich guys and rebels in bullet proof suits doing THEE absolute most.

The theater has an unpleasant odor. All of the chairs are stained in the non-premium theaters.

How are the seats? Are they recliners?

The theater is one of the older theaters. And have not converted over to lounge chairs.

The recliner seats were very comfortable (I would prefer that the leg part come up a little higher), the digital sound and sight was fantastic.

Our group of 17 people attended a screening of Dhurandhar in Theater Room 1, and the sound volume in the auditorium was excessively loud to the point of being physically uncomfortable. More than 6 members of our group developed headaches during the movie, and several others expressed significant discomfort and dissatisfaction. The volume level was not just Immersive--it was Overwhelming, Harsh, and Disruptive and Unsafe, making it difficult to enjoy the film. I personally went to speak with the manager 8 minutes during the screening and was told that the volume would be lowered. Unfortunately, it did not seem that any meaningful adjustment was made, as the sound remained excessively loud for the duration of the movie. 4 Hours long. Additionally, many other guests in the theater were also expressing dissatisfaction with the volume level, which makes it clear this was not an isolated concern from our group alone. A movie theater experience should be enjoyable and safe for all guests, but the sound levels during our visit were far beyond what would be considered Reasonable or Safe. This issue affected a large portion of our group and turned what was meant to be a fun outing into a very disappointing experience. We strongly recommend that management review and properly regulate the audio levels in Theater Room 1, particularly for screenings like Dhurandhar, to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for all customers.

I ordered tickets online and discovered they have discounted tickets on Tuesday plus 50% off popcorn if you sign up for their loyalty club... which I did. If you buy online, you'll need to download the app. The app was actually very easy to use. The theatre itself was a bit tucked away but I eventually found the parking lot. There's ample parking and the building echoed times when movie theaters were bustling with visitors. It was a little run down and quiet and 2 people working concessions, 1 working as the ticket checker, and... that was it. There are a few claw machines and a motorcycle arcade game, plus a Photo Booth that didn't really work. Restrooms were decently clean... though there was one stall where the cover to the toilet paper dispenser had opened and the entire roll had tipped into a toilet bowl. There are about 15 screens there and - wow - I did not expect the size of those reclining chairs. Because they reclined, the aisles between each row are quite spacious. My kids are small and they were tiny in the seats, haha. Very comfy and though there were cracks in the seats, it didn't really have a negative impact on me. The theatre looked clean. For a first trip with my kids, it was a pretty good experience! I was terrified that the kids wouldn't sit still or would be loud, but it wasn't bad. It did help that there were only two other people on my row with the rest all crowded on another row. The ticket checker was pretty blasé if he wasn't checking tickets but the concession stand staff were pretty helpful and nice! No real complaints other than maybe have a step stool for kids to wash their hands a little easier. This is a good location for another movie outing!

Staff were organized and friendly. I had my purse searched upon entry; all bags were looked at. My ticket was purchased through Vivid Seats, and apparently they didn't provide me a legit theater-issued QR so I had to visit the box office. They were friendly and promptly issued me printed tickets. Lobby was a con because it's just small and cramped. This old building probably didn't have to house as much food and merch purchasing back in its day but the multiple concession lines were blocking people from just getting to the theater and accessing their seats. They have tons of low quality junk food for sale. The huge group sitting next to us had chicken fingers, fries, a ketchup smell that wouldn't go away... it was honestly ridiculous the food they allow in people's laps just to turn profits. I was surprised these people were buying full huge meals (that had to cost $40+ each for junk) at 3:30pm to hold it in their laps for a 1.75h kids' show. Whatever. Point is, if you haven't eaten and want to pay $40 for crap that will linger in your body, you will not go hungry here. Clean bathrooms were the right size to allow a packed house to process themselves in the 20min intermission timeframe. This includes the ladies room, which always takes longer, and it was for a kids' show, which adds even more time. I recommend pairing your visit with the Rutgers Zimmerli Art Museum if you have time. They are open until 6pm most nights.

Perfect view of the stage, but I don't think it really matters much where you are seated due to the design of the auditorium. The opener was a rising singer/songwriter named Aniyyah, born and raised in New Jersey. Aniyyah's DJ had some technical issues loading her music at the start of her set, but wow, she has a voice on her. She, along with Raheem DeVaughn and Eric made for a fantastic show. They are all extremely talented vocalists, but Raheem DeVaughn without a doubt stole the show with his stage presence. Eric Benét however truly surprised me. His voice is absolutely incredible live. The State Theatre did a major renovation back in 2020 and the interior was previously renovated in 2004. It's as if we have a piece of Broadway right in the middle of New Brunswick, New Jersey. I felt like I stepped right into the 1920s with their vintage design and architecture. The acoustics inside the theatre are phenomenal. I'm not sure if it was my seating, but the sound was so crisp and well balanced. I can understand why any artist would choose this theatre as their preferred venue to perform in. One important note is their designated passageway to the closest parking deck which would otherwise be a long walk in the freezing cold. We were able to use the enclosed heated hallway as a shortcut which leads directly from the garage to the State Theatre located on Livingston Ave. We almost walked right past the entrance to the passageway, so I wanted to make sure I shared it with anyone who has read this far into my review : ) It's been many years since I've come to see a show here, and I had an enjoyable experience. I look forward to checking out any of their other events in the near future.
