Regal always gives staff passes when you bring clients with disabilities. We happen to be in area and my client wanted to see whitney movie so we went to AMC They do not give staff passes. Concession stand appeared closed as there was nobody by it. I will say seats are comfy but that's about it. Front when you walk in they are doing work so it's in disarray. read more

Absolutely terrible service. Obese dude at the counter would not let me in to see Scream. I am 20 years old and didn't have my id on me. I had a picture but he said it wouldn't cut it. He called me a racial slur and cursed me out of the theatre. Drove over an hour there for nothing. I believe his name was Terrence. Honestly just feel bad for the guy he is obviously going through a lot if he is in his mid 40s working at a movie theatre. read more

I wish I could give ZERO stars!! This is by far the grossest movie theater I've ever been too. I've complain to the management team 3 years ago and said they were getting a remodel that year. Obviously that never happened. I don't get how AMC could neglect the theater like this. It doesn't have recliners, tape is holding the carpet together, you'll never find a seat that isn't riddled with stains, the curtains are falling off the wall, rust on the hand rails, and the odor of the place is nauseating. I would love to become and AMC A- List member I won't until this theater gets an overhaul. read more

There are recliners at this theater haha, People seem to be spoiled by the higher end theaters. Remember y'all, AMC was inches from filing for bankruptcy about a year ago lol Great place to watch a movie with friends. Friendly staff, decent concessions but best of all they have Coke remix machines. You fill your own soda and you get refills. If you want a recliner this theater might only have a few auditoriums with those seats and I think they're reserved for the new, more hyped up movies so if you use their app to buy tickets you'll know exactly what theater you'll be in :) read more

Absolutely horrible experience Sunday morning in stony Brook ny..... no where is it listed that the 11am showing is a private showing. Showed up with my 6 yr old special needs daughter and got turned away at the door in the rain not even allowed into the building. Absolutely horrific. The seats and tables are dirty. After every movie you suppose to clean up and it was disgusting.

All in all it's an ok theater. Its outdated compared to the newly renovated ones popping up all around. The carpet seems dirty, the IMAX theater had a strange smell. The seats were old, some had stains. They weren't the reclining seats but they had a high back which was better than a regular theater seat. I think it's just in a need of a good updating. read more

Hmm. I was afraid to come here due to the awful reviews but there was an advance showing of Shazam! and I was excited so I figured I'd take the chance. It's definitely in need of an update but I was pleasantly surprised. Maybe I got lucky but the theatre I was in wasn't gross & it didn't have an odor. In fact, I was less skeeved by this one than the Raceway in Westbury. Was I just in a good mood? AMC Levittown is still my favorite but if something I really wanted to see was only showing here I wouldn't count it out. read more

I remember years ago when this used to be one of the best theaters on Long Island when it first opened. Years later, this place has gone downhill. I won't say it's the complete worse theater I've ever been to. The lobby is beautiful, decked out with cute adornments that get you in the mood for movie night. HOWEVER, once I stepped into the theater itself where the screening took place, there was this horrible stench of mold. The seats were also pretty uncomfortable and way too close together. People kept getting up behind me and bumping into my seat and the backing of the chair made a loud noise. At one point I got scared the seats had bed bugs, because I started itching all over. I would never come here again for a movie, this is certainly not my ideal theater. read more

Concession stand is horrible, lines are set up so if you are A-List or Premiere member you have to go around regular line to get service. The concession stand workers are clueless on where we are supposed to go, went from one line to another then waited and watched the regular line completely empty out. in retrospect we were better off with no membership. Only after we had to make a scene did manager step in. Its happened twice in this theater. Your basically better off not even getting on priority line it will take you twice as long after everyone skips you and concession workers redirect you to the wrong line. The theatre has a very "old" feel, in that much of it feels like it hasn't been upgraded since the mid-1990s. The screens and sound system are fine, but the seats are not the most comfortable things to watch a movie in, with hard plastic and not much padding. There is also a very distinct odor, almost like urine, in the screening rooms, and they often aren't kept very clean. It is stadium seating, but the screening rooms are also relatively small. But, the theatre's saving grace is its phenomenal Dolby screening room. Only in that room will you find more "modern" amenities like reclining seats with cup holders and an absolutely beautiful screen with sound to match. If you're going to see a movie here, it may be wisest to visit here only to see the big-ticket blockbusters that demand a Dolby viewing experience. Until they decide to improve the quality of their basic theatre-going experience, consider other options. At the very least, they've got to do something about that odor. read more

This movie theater was very beautiful when entering. However the pop corn had tasted very stale like it was out for hours. The Welch gummies I had purchased were expired!!. The buffalo chicken flatbread was bitter. Although this was a horrific experience at the movies the Theater it was somewhat clean and empty. I changed over to this movie theatre after my local theatre closed down to become a hardware store... AMC Loews Stony Brook is a good Theatre in general, however I feel it is sometimes understaffed. The Bathroom cleanliness is on and off depending on the day and theatre seats might need some attention. The IMAX experience is really well executed and feels immersive. I never thought I would be a normal movie goer but I do love coming here with my friends for the experience. The location is convenient as it is near a mall and shopping center and the show times are fairly convenient. As a side note they have Student discount! read more

Stadium seating and Stubs card for rewards are a must when seeing a flick at an AMC Loews theater. Was out visiting the parental units in the scary suburbs this past weekemd and had to escape for a few hours so we went to see the Lego movie. Everything is awesome!!! So happy that our theater had stadium seating. Great view of the screen. Good sound. No one's head blocking our view. The theaters themselves seem a bit worn and it wasn't cleaned well as there was a lot of wrappers and popcorn on the floor. It's located in a big strip mall area so there is plenty of parking. Fun looking layout and lobby design when entering. Overpriced concession stand but friendly enough staff here. I agree with Sandy O's review - the lobby floor was dusty and full of salt as were the bathrooms. Must have been because of the last snowfall here. Do they even vacuum this place enough? Felt like I was walking around a bathroom at the beach. Crusty! Overall, not a horrible spot to catch a movie if stuck out in the burbs. read more

I've been attending this theater for years upon years just because it's local and I gotta tell ya, it's really just for the birds! Let's start off on a good foot though for the rating... - The staff is always friendly - The women's bathroom is usually pretty clean - Nice lounge area with some good games - About 22 or so theaters so they will double show a movie when it's bound to be a blockbuster Now for the not so "good foot" features... - The damn chairs don't recline!! - The food they offer is disgusting and they let people take it into the theater then you end up sitting right where someone wiped their nasty little greasy hands all over the seat - Holy freakin cow is it expensive. Now I know all theater food is expensive but most theaters I've been to at least have easy accessible coupons. I've been here a total of 3 times and wouldn't return unless it was the only theater with a showing of a movie I want to really see. The restrooms are ONLY located by the ticket entrance and nowhere located by the actual theater rooms so if you have to use the restroom, you must walk to towards the concession stand to do so- inconvenient. Also, the seats are very uncomfortable. This movie theater does not have recliner chairs but I've been to movie theaters that don't and the seats were still comfortable enough to enjoy your movie. Even the IMAX theater had horrible seats- old, small, stained and not at all comfortable enough to sit down for 2 hours. I wouldn't recommend this theater at all. read more

Haven't been to AMC for two years Went 1/17 to see Betty White celebration one time showing brought 3 tickets , popcorn and soda Was at 4pm #6 movie started and the theater music was still playing People we're shouting turn off music.No one was manning the booth . Movie went on Then at end Theater lights never came on, only light in theater was red emergency dots on floor . Again no staff People were tripping , couldn't gather there coats , pocket book When complained to management Booth Girl says I don't know what to say "I just got here"so went to ticket counter so did others saying they were short staff. This theater in Stony Brook could seriously use an upgrade. It's dingy, dirty and the theaters themselves are uncomfortable and small. Also, at the concession stand, I didn't appreciate the fact they let some obviously intoxicated woman cut the line, take her sweet time ordering a bunch of crap and not have the decency to tell her she wasn't next in line. That's just inconsiderate. By the way, if you want butter on your popcorn, there's self serve for that. I don't like extra butter luckily since I sensed some serious sanitary issues with the self serve butter pumps. The self serve drink machine looked dirty as well. Like I said, this theater needs an upgrade and I won't be back until it happens. Not recommended to see a movie here. read more

This theater might have the strangest stadium seating I have ever seen. The main area where you go to get your tickets, concessions, etc. looks like any typical Loews. This one has not been renovated yet therefore it doesn't have the recliners but you'll deal. I came here because the original Miracle on 34th Street was playing and while it's out of the way for me, I decided why not? Ticket prices are about the same as anywhere else ($12/50). The bathrooms are spacious and have a vanity area. The theaters themselves are...Strange. Usually stadium seating has some additional seating on the floor level. These theaters have none. It's stadium seats all the way up. The seats don't recline and could use an upgrade but they'll do so long as you're not watching a 3 hour movie. I'm sure AMC will eventually come in and renovate as they've done with all their other theaters. Also this place is in a strip mall across from Smithaven Mall so if you need retail therapy afterward, there ya go. read more

The theatre is gross. It's very close to me but I still try to go to others when I can. It's dirty and it smells. I feel like I need a shower when I leave. Screens are big and parking is pretty good, unless it snows - lot not always shoveled well. Best park they have the popular selection and also some off beat movies, but only at off beat times (not so great for working people). read more

I have been going to this movie theater my entire life despite its average characteristics. This movie theater is pretty overpriced and it doesn't have any special qualities that would warrant it's expensive tickets and concession food. The bathrooms are fairly clean and the actual theaters tend to be clean as well. The seats are pretty old and make a lot of noise and are by no means comfortable. Overall, everything about this movie theater is average but its location and availability of showtimes makes it convenient! read more

Wow. Where do I begin. This place is a complete dump. Right as soon as you walk in you will smell the aromas of farm animals and cats pissing all over the place. I'm pretty sure my underwear smell better after 3 days straight of use. Additionally, the chairs are very squeaky if you make the slightest fucking movement everyone will stare into your soul and make you feel like you have 3 heads. After leaving AMC I immediately showered for 2 hours and used 17 bars of soap while believing I had lice from the seats and still didn't make me feel any better. Honestly the best thing for this place to happen would be It burning down in flames and getting a fresh start but even with that I believe you will still smell the piss filled rugs. If you are thinking about going I'd highly recommend wearing this. read more

DO NOT COME HERE!! Save your money for another theater if you're looking to see a movie, The workers here simply just do not care. Me & my boyfriend went to go see a showing of batman at 9:45pm, we get to the movie theater doors, locked, all around. We tried knocking politely on the glass from different angles trying to get the attention of the staff we could see in clear view by the glass doors. We saw employees chatting at the concession stand, they laughed and tried not to look at us. So finally we give up trying to get in and see if we can get a refund on the tickets but of course; you can't get a refund after the showing has already started. After wasting gas I still made the attempt to call the theater directly the next day to see if there was anything they could do about it(since it's not my fault a bunch of teens didn't feel like doing their job on a night shift)but the janitor answered? and told me that no one was in the theater yet, I was confused by this because it was well past noon when I called. Ever since that call I decided not to make a big fuss over 2 movie tickets but overall terrible experience, tickets obtained on a whim so I shouldn't be that surprised and I wasn't really, also the directions take you to a creepy dead end BEHIND the theater, soo super safe for young women:), really catted & ugly looking on the inside but I guess they decorated the theater to match their staffs aesthetic. read more

Today I went to AMC theater 17 with my wife we often do this. We have what we call a date afternoon date out. Its an inexpensive way to enjoy a good movie, have some laughs eat popcorn, drink soda and be with the one you love. What's so nice about this is that its usually empty and it's not a big crowd. the matinees are very inexpensive and you can just have a good time. The two movies we saw today were very very good. the planet of the apes picked up from where the last one left off and It had a different spin. I suggest you go see it and it left it open for a sequel. Then we saw girls night out which was my wife's favorite it was the movie that had a bunch of laughs and she enjoyed herself and it reminded me of her and her girls. read more

So I recently moved over here to lake grove from Brooklyn and hmmm, honestly the employees are extremely nice and helpful and the facility is clean and no mask is enforced , cute but , the seats are from the 90's, they haven't been upgraded to the recliners that even linden blvd multiplex has , so it's not a money thing , and if they can afford to have a bathroom attendant , they can afford to upgrade the seats . They had a little smell to them and I could tell cause I have allergies and it set it off , but again , employees are great , I was the only one watchin one movie and they waited until I was done to start cleaning even though I watch all the finishing credits . Went to movie tonight at this theatre. There were commercials/previews for 26 minutes! Movie was supposed to begin at 6:35 and did not start until 7:01. I do like some previews, but not almost 30 minutes! Also, it was so very cold, I had to keep my scarf and coat on for the entire movie. When leaving, I was waiting to speak to the manager, but the manager just kept chatting away with his worker. I had to actually excuse myself and interrupt him. He was actually pretty rude in his manner of speaking and what he said. He told me, "Well, it is good that it is almost a half hour in case you are late," ridiculous!! Also, he did not seem to care at all that they simply forgot to put heat on in the theatre, though it is the end of January!! Terrible customer service and attitude. So I've been to this theatre a few times and I never had an issue. But we normally go to watch ghibli films at this theater. Normally they play these anime films in the regular theatre, not the imax or Dolby. We recently went to see star wars and we didn't really know the difference between the different theaters. Only that the imax is better for viewing. Well let me tell you we ended up in the Dolby theater and it was so f-ing loud! It is unbelievable people stayed with no issues. We couldn't stand it and we walked out after 15 min of torture. I was covering my ears with headphones, my scarf and hood. I'm shocked parents don't have a problem with this. Their kids are going to have poor hearing when they grow up and likely ringing. It's insane! We did complain to the manager, which was embarrassing. But I wasn't leaving wo getting a refund or a rain check or something (we paid a lot). At first she offered to lower the volume a little (if we were in the imax theater). But because we were in the Dolby theater she could not do much. Apparently there is a set standard for the volume (basically making people deaf) and they are not aloud to lower the volume. So she offered for us to go to the regular theater, since the movie had just started in that one. Fast forward we couldn't help but feel we overpaid to see this movie in the more advanced movie theater and I'm mildly annoyed we didn't get our few bucks back, but I didn't think about it until now. However it was nice she did try to solve the issue for us and gave us an option. We did end up going to the regular movie theatre. For now on I'll just watch films on my telly on Netflix and stick to ghibli films in the regular theaters. This particular theatre by the way does NOT give refunds! For nothing. I was surprised this manager was willing to work with us actually. If I just based my experience with the manager I'd give her a few more stars, (but some $ back would have been nice too). But I'm rating the movie theatre. Oh as I don't really like reclining chairs, the ones at AMC really suck compare to other theaters that I've been to. I mean I'll settle for regular seating but since we over paid may as well get some decent reclining seating, no? I am giving this 5 stars for the Dolby theatre with recliners that vibrate with the sound. All the other rooms are old style, including imax. I have to make time to watch within first week of release in order to watch in the Dolby theatre. Restrooms are clean. Snacks keep on improving. They trying, but they need to spend money on upgrading more theatres. read more

First off this theater is so dirty! I think I've been spoiled going to the regal theater in ronkonkoma. The floors are sticky and bathroom is gross! The seats are dirty and squeaky. Not to mention the price they charge per film is not that much cheaper than the regal. I decided it was time to post my review of this theatre since I grew up in Port Jefferson and have been a local all my life. Now, that I'm married and have children, I love to reminisce in the areas I used to enjoy visiting. Like a good old theatre, or bowling places that we use to go to. But now that I'm older, I just don't get why this theatre and many others have gone downhill. Maybe its lack of funds to keep the theatre looking new, but clean, that shouldn't be a tremendous thing to take pride in. Were is the pride anymore. Bathrooms that have garbage pails filled to the brim. No paper in stalls, no soap, no paper towels. Concession stands that are sloppy and unkept. Sticky floors, garbage pails over filling, popcorn everywhere you walk....on and on. Why? Whats the world coming to. It seems like its everywhere you go in NY.
