Let your imagination run wild here at the theater. This was our first time here. This is an older AMC theater. It's a free standing venue. Now if you're hungry many options for food surround you. You buy your tickets and popcorn all at the same spot. But if you want an alcoholic beverage they have a bar. Yes you can sip spirits while you watch the show. Nice touches. We came to see the movie, "Buddy." We happened to find this AMC local theater with the aid of the Yelp app! They have an AI generated feature that will allow directions. Now the chairs at this theater are not so good. They definitely need a little extra attention. The chairs will not hug you. But as you watch the flick the screen is loud. You have lots of leg room to sit. We are in an older theater but it did the trick. The popcorn was fresh. They have unlimited refills for slurping the slurpee and your favorite beverage. All in all we had a wonderful time. The service was so and it could be cleaner, but it's time to watch the show now. read more

Took the family to see toy story 5 I haven't been to the Stonybrook location in quite some time so I thought to take my kid to see the movie in IMax. And that theater was absolutely disgusting. Are they not cleaning between shows anymore? Look, I'm the type to take their trash when I leave, and I know that's not the norm, but there's no excuse to pay extra for a ticket because it's an IMax theater and find what looks to be liquified food in a ziplock bag under my seat. There were seats with what I assume to be dried cheese (I hope). The seats are torn up and dirty. There's even a weird smell to the place. they're not even trying to keep up with the place or upgrade it to the point where it's at least closer in comfort to say Tinseltown or Excape, they've really let this place go and still charging full price. For a cleaner experience rent the movie on an iPad, find a run down chevron station down the highway a few counties over and it'll probably be about the same experience. read more

I was very disappointed with my experience at AMC. The theater didn't feel as clean as I expected, and the overall experience wasn't worth the money. The food and drinks were overpriced, and the wait times were longer than they should have been. The movie itself was fine, but the theater experience took away from it. I usually don't leave negative reviews, but this visit left me frustrated. I hope improvements are made because I expected much better from a theater chain like AMC Theatres. read more

Because I live very close to another local theater, I had never been to AMC Stonybrook 20. My husband and I wanted to see a movie that was only being shown at this theater so it was our first time visiting. We went to a daytime matinee so our experience is based on that timeframe. The lobby was large, clean, and bright. The ticket taker was friendly and directed us which direction to go to find our theater. We found our theater and it was clean without visible trash or sticky floors. We found our seats and were sad to learn that the seats did not recline. We arrived in our theater at the stated time for the show, but had to sit through 20 minutes of movie previews and ads before the feature film. The sound during this time was so loud that my ears were literally hurting and my husband had to totally remove his hearing aids. I sat with my hands over my ears and could still here everything perfectly. Looking around we saw that others seemed to be noticing the same thing. During the feature film, the sound was a bit better, but still extremely loud. The restroom was clean and well-stocked with no trash on the floors. The parking lot is expansive and plenty of spaces were available during the matinee timeframe. read more

Took the still parting birthday girl to see demon slayer infinity castle. Won't say anything about the movie.... ‍‍‍‍ So the seats were prepaid for so when we got in there the seats are literally broken lol luckily no one was sitting two more seats over but we did have immediate neighbors and thankfully they understood and were cool with moving one down so we had a shared seat between us (purses snacks blankets iykyk) Theater was clean, extremely loud lol like even though it was about 85% full it didn't help but no one can say they couldn't hear!! Someone behind us and in front of us were on their dang phones the entire movie like seriously... Her pretzels were hard but they happily remade them for her. The chicken tenders were good but only came with 3... and a weird crumb not sure what else to call it. Popcorn was good even if not salted. One of the soda machines had nothing available but thankfully one other one was working. She did her slushy thing lol It's a good theater, hopefully they can fix the seats that are broken soon, since we have to go back for a few more movies coming out we're looking forward to!!! read more

My wife and I went to this theater to take advantage of a senior discount for an early matinee. All right is the best rating I can give at this time between 2-3 stars. The seats were rather uncomfortable and did not recline. My biggest complaint was the excessive volume when the reviews started. I had to literally remove my hearing aids since even turning them to their lowest setting wasn't sufficient. I would only attend this theater if one closer to us did not have the movie we wanted to see. read more

This was easily one of the worst movie theater experiences I've had in a long time. I visited AMC on June 10 for the 9:30 PM showing of Obsession with my family, and almost everything about the experience was disappointing. The theater was dirty, the popcorn was stale, and the drinks from the fountain machine tasted terrible. To top it off, they didn't accept cash, which was an unexpected inconvenience. The movie itself wasn't much better. The video quality was poor, making it difficult to fully enjoy the film. There was also a group of people sitting behind us who talked throughout the entire movie. While I understand that theaters can't control every customer, there didn't seem to be any staff monitoring the auditorium or making an effort to address the disruption. The employees we encountered appeared uninterested and didn't seem to care about the guest experience. Overall, the theater felt poorly maintained and understaffed. We spent about $50 on three tickets and left feeling like we wasted our money. Going to the movies isn't cheap anymore, and for that price I expect a clean theater, fresh concessions, decent presentation quality, and staff who care about customer service. Unfortunately, this location failed on all counts. I won't be returning unless significant improvements are made. read more

This theater has seen better days. While things seemed to improve last year, it has gone a bit more downhill. My family and I went to the Stonybrook theater last week as part of Studio Ghibli Fest 2025 to see "My Neighbor Totoro," one of my favorite movies from childhood that my kids now love too. We were able to buy tickets and concessions online using the AMC app. We had to wait a bit to pick up our food due to the fact that it seemed one person was doing concessions and tickets. This also meant that nobody checked our tickets before going to our theater -- we could have walked into any theater really. We made our way to our theater, and it was clear that this theater has been a bit neglected. The armrest on my son's chair was broken, practically falling off if you touched it. And my shoes stuck to the floor when we walked by. Plus the sound from the theater next door bled into our space. All of this won't stop us from coming to Stonybrook. It's in a great location for us, and it gets many great films. I just wish AMC could invest more into it and make it like it once was. read more

Very disappointed in the entire theater very very rundown soap broken in the bathroom restaurant was not serving anything. The bar was not serving anything. Nobody at the ticket counter. Very dirty. Movie was great. First time I have visited here in over 5 years and I'm only coming now because Baxter avenue theater has closed. First off a matinee at the Baxter cost $8.50 matinee here cost me $11.01. As far as concessions go trying to buy a large drink at 2:30 in the afternoon on Saturday and the theater was out of large cups keep in mind this is 2:30 in the afternoon on Saturday. The 20 auditoriums are poorly marked each one does have an electric sign but it doesn't tell you what movie is showing there's just a small numbered sign on the wall near each door but nothing other than that to indicate you're in the right spot. As somebody in a wheelchair the fact that each theater only has a single door to get in makes it a little difficult for someone with my particular setup and there's very few people around to even ask for assistance I had to rely on fellow moviegoers as the staff was mostly non-existent read more

Saw the Odyssey on the IMAX screen. The movie was good, but the theater is a dump. Popcorn and grease on the counters and floor. Spilled cokes and ice. No one to clean anything up. I think the health dept needs to pay them a visit. I was afraid to buy any concessions because of the dirtiness of the place. This used to be a nice theater, but it's trash now. The concession stand was horrible. Paid $11.44 for popcorn only to receive burnt end of the barrel popcorn. It hurt my gums, I went back 3 times trying to get fresh popcorn they never popped anymore the 3 hours I was there. Im not sure if there was shortage or what. I go to movies to enjoy the fresh popcorn, not necessarily to watch the movie. I was very disappointed in this theater. read more

This movie theater has hit skid row and the community knows it. Last night at 7:30 pm is prime time for movie venues, but not this place. The front lobby was empty and felt like a ghost town. When I turned into the parking lot, I passed a parking lot sweeping truck. When I was walking in the parking lot, I saw two empty six pack of bottle beer bottles on the ground. The outside garbage cans near the entrances had big stains on the sides on them. The elderly lady who scanned my ticket looked to be working to supplement her social security check. She was nice and explained where to go. I am glad I ate before coming, because I can't eat in a nasty place. Once I got to my seat, all of them were dirty. The seats had crumbs on them and the back of the chairs had dried up liquid stains. When I sat in my seat I noticed a strong musty smell and at one point I felt something crawling on me. This will be my last visit here. Things here are out dated, dirty, and dingy. read more

We went to a 1PM movie on Saturday - I was thinking at that time of day everything should be clean as it was filthy the last time we were there. NOPE - no such luck. The floors were dirty, our seats were in a row that was so slick with popcorn grease you could hardly stand. Dirty everywhere!! Which brings me to the restrooms. Gag - every toilet was full of ick and I don't think they were flushing at all. This place needs to be closed down for remodeling or permanently. All around gross. We will not return. read more

This location is the definition of mismanagement. We bought IMAX tickets for the Stray Kids concert movie for four people, including two children who were extremely excited and counting down the days. When the movie started, it was immediately obvious that it was not IMAX, despite being advertised and priced that way. After two failed attempts to start the movie, staff came in and abruptly told everyone that the equipment "blew up" and the room was smoking, and we all had to leave. There was no calm explanation, no apology, and absolutely no empathy, especially toward families with kids. My children were crying and shaken by how aggressively and carelessly the situation was handled. The manager on duty was rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. He refused to refund the original payment method, refused cash, and forced a gift card as the only option. Popcorn and drinks were not refunded at all, despite the movie never happening. On top of that, the facility itself is disgusting. The women's bathroom had mold on the ceiling, water damage, active leaks, and clearly hadn't been cleaned in days--if not longer. The auditorium was dirty before the movie even started. What's frustrating is that other theater rooms were empty, but no effort was made to move guests or resolve the issue. Multiple customers mentioned this wasn't the first time something like this had happened here. This theater is struggling for a reason. Poor maintenance, poor management, and zero customer care. I will not be returning, and I strongly recommend choosing another AMC location if you want a safe, clean, and respectful experience. read more

With so many options in a Louisville area for movies and theater experiences Tom has unfortunately passed this place by. This is the first place I took my wife on a date back in 2007 so it will always hold memories for me. However, I took my daughter here the other day to watch a movie and this theater is lacking. Took the family here Jan 1 for Willie Wonka movie. Place looked empty. Kids and wife wanted Popcorn and soda. The entrance tickets were almost $45. With popcorn and sodas another $35. The Popcorn was stale and OVER SALTED. They said that's how it comes. Horrible just horrible. With sodas they gave us cups and we filled ourselves. Just when you thought it couldn't get worse the soda machine was out flavors and had to find one with syrup otherwise tasted just like carbonated water. NEVER coming here again. Should have gone by instinct just like Restaurants: if it's NOT busy, walk away and go elsewhere. read more

I'd say this review is a solid 3.5. This movie theater is a standard, no frills type of theater. We went for the Beyoncé Renaissance film premiere and expected the bells and whistles that other theaters had. We were sorely disappointed that on opening night the theater did not have all of the merch available. Luckily we were able to purchase the popcorn tin and received our free poster but they did not have lanyards available or the cups. The theater was also out of some of the treats we attempted to get, they advertised a ranch popcorn and I am a bit of a ranch aficionado so I wanted to try it, but they didn't have any in stock. Perhaps I've gotten spoiled at newer theaters, but I sorely missed the ability to recline in my seat while here. The little disappointments like this added up and somewhat diminished our movie going experience. The sound in the IMAX theater was fantastic, so all was not lost since great sound is needed to experience a concert film. All in all, I only visited this theater because I panic bought my tickets As soon as they release for fear that it would sell out. If I'm being honest I wish I would have gambled and waited a bit longer to purchase my tickets for the chance to go to a theater with more frills. read more

I'm leaving this review because I was super worried after seeing all of the other recent reviews, but I visited yesterday and was very pleasantly surprised so I wanted to reassure anyone who might be in the position I was. The movie Interstellar was re-released on IMAX on a limited run for its 10th anniversary. It is one of my husband's favorite movies so I jumped at the chance to take him - this was the only theater in our area that was showing it, and after reading the reviews I was seriously considering looking at options in Lexington so the experience was not ruined by an awful theater. That would have been a major pain though, so I figured we would go ahead and if it was THAT bad we could just leave and buy tickets in Lex for the next day. I visited Stonybrook probably weekly back in its early 2000's heyday, and it's true that it isn't that any longer. However, my experience was nowhere close to the nightmare others have shared. The staff were friendly and there were plenty there - even on a Monday afternoon. The popcorn was great, the Coke Freestyle machine worked fine with no apparent depleted options, and the place overall looked tidy. The theater was comfortable, even perhaps a tiny bit on the chilly side - I brought a blanket and considered using it but didn't. The outside weather was around 50f so that could have made a difference though. The bathroom was tidy and while it wasn't perfectly sterile spotless, they were fine. It is true that the first stall I tried didn't have a lock on it. The theater was clean with no sticky floors. It did have a few chairs out of order, but they had "official" coverings that said so so that no one would sit there and they were blocked out on the app so you couldn't accidentally reserve them. There were lots of trash cans in the hallway for spent movie snacks and none were overflowing or gross. I didn't see any trash or litter inside. Honestly my only complaint about the theater is that it doesn't have the luxury reclining chairs. The seats do lean back and are comfortable, but they are fairly basic. But, the fact that they offer throwback movies (I saw they are also playing retro Christmas specials like National Lampoons) and re-releases is great! Especially now that we don't have Village 8 around for those types - and this theater was much much nicer than Village 8 was. Would I choose to see a brand new movie there vs another local theater with luxury recliners? Probably not. But I also would not hesitate to go there if the showtime was more convenient. Overall - it's fine! A solid 4 stars. I am giving 5 though because I feel like it's fair to balance out the 1 stars. read more

This pains me a great deal to write this because as a person who was in high school in the early to mid 2000's I used to love going to Stonybrook so I was excited when I was invited to see a movie there. Here my is honest experience and why I do not suggest going: - Parking lot was filthy with glass and garbage and extremely dangerous as there were ZERO lights and it was completely pitch black. - When we walked in I wasn't sure if it was even open. There were hardly any lights on, no music, just awkward silence. The entire time I was there I saw 3 employees. - My friends all wanted to buy beer and there was no bartender to be found even thought they waited around by the bar for several minutes and made eye contact with employees- huge loss of money for the company it's like they don't even care - the Theater was extremely hot! Apparently my other guests were warned of this but we were not. It was like a sauna and I was sweating by the end. The Seats were sticky and gross. Tons of garbage on the floors and clearly had not been cleaned in a very long time - Bathrooms were disgusting and had cigarette ash everywhere. Gigantic hole in the floor my husband almost tripped on (picture attached) The list is endless. I am pretty sure this place is about to go under and no one there cares anymore. It's funny to think this was THE place to see a movie when I was in high school. All of s would meet here, see a movie then walk to the steak n shake next door afterward. I came here for the fist time since then recently to see the new Jurassic World movie and noticed how much it has gone downhill. They have a system where you get your tickets and food at the same spot which makes the line so much slower. They need to go back to the old method of tickets in one line and food at another. They also don't have the reclining seats. I understand if they charge less because of this but they don't . I may have been spoiled with the reclining seats and the different lines to the point where I will probably avoid this theater at all cost. read more

Bathrooms were dirty. Trash cans were overflowing. The facility was generally dirty. We bought tickets to see Stranger Things finale . With the purchase of a ticket we were to receive a voucher for $20 of concessions per movie ticket. Upon arriving we were notified that the popcorn machine was broken and they had no hot food items except chicken tenders. The candy and snacks were not stocked. There was hardly anything to pick from. We settled on items that were available and when we tried to check out we were told that because we didn't receive a QR code we would have to pay for the items and seek reimbursement from fandango. The employees were not helpful. When we couldn't not provide the QR code the employees acted like this was the first time she had encountered the problem. When the manager was called he said it was widespread issue. I overheard a similar situation occurred with vouchers through AMC app for other customers who purchased Stranger Things movie tickets. If anyone wonders why movie theaters aren't doing well this is a prime example why. I have never seen such a dirty theater. I couldn't have had a more enjoyable experience at home for a less money. read more

This AMC location is a total ghost town. Such an eerie feeling here. Never busy. Practically no staff. My first experience was a few weeks ago when I arrived to an evening movie I'd purchased a ticket for on the app and when I arrived the doors were locked and the lights were off. Staff were inside in the distance doing things, looking my way but completely ignoring me. I called on the phone to get their attention and from the locked doors could HEAR the phone ringing inside and watched as they continued to ignore me. It was the strangest thing I've ever encountered. I reached out to support and got a refund for my ticket, but still. Now today I arrive for a 745PM movie and no staff was anywhere to be seen. Walked right in and directly to my theatre without having to show anyone my ticket or anything. What is this place??? Very strange. We came to see the Bonhoeffer movie the other day. The start time was listed as 4:00. The movie actually started at 4:27. There is absolutely NO excuse for a HALF HOUR''S be worth of previews. This is especially applicable to special showings such as this, but I would submit that these previews be shortened, reduced and/or streamlined for ALL movies. I'm not an avid moviegoer but occasionally like to catch a film on IMAX (actually it's a LIeMAX screen). Yesterday I went here to catch Oppenheimer and while I enjoyed the movie, the theater is a dump. Specifically, the upholstery on the seats was in tatters, the bathrooms resembled those of a grimy gas station, and the outside of the theater had weeds grown up all around it; basically, the place is in poor condition and obviously hasn't seen any investment or care for years. Also, the movie sound was just stupid loud, as if they're trying to prove their amps crank to 11. The music and sound effects often drowned out the dialog. In the future, I'll skip the fake IMAX and just go to a better-kept theater. read more

I'm never the type to leave a review for any place, but I had to after this. I left my wallet in one of the theaters by accident recently after a showing. I called them to ask if they could look to find it for me. They did and I got my wallet back, but there was over $50 cash missing from it. I know for a fact there wasn't a showing after my movie and no one else in my row who could have seen it. So it had to have been an employee. Shameful behavior. I've never had a good experience with this theater anyhow and didn't like going there. This was the nail in the coffin. Never coming back. If I could give this 0 stars. I would. read more

We are movie fans and members of the AMC club. The Stonybrook 20 theaters seems to have the worst soda and slushy machines. Took the kids to the arcade and none of the games worked. Asked for a refund and was refused by management. Time to find a new theater. read more

Ticket prices are outrageous and the fees they put make it even worse, drink prices are awful. No one should have to pay 7.50 for a soda. I went to the movies for the first time since covid started. I was a little leary because I wasn't sure how they would manage things like cleaning and spacing. I reviewed the website to see how they were doing things and I felt comfortable going. The good thing is that I went on a non-busy day so there were no issues. We went to the movies on a Monday so that seemed like the best day and it was. There was literally only 3 people total in my theatre. We went to see The New Mutant. The seats were assigned when you bought your tickets. Once you bought the ticket, it would space you out or close out seats close to you. Makes it pretty simple. The prices seem to be high. I am not sure if I like the way the theatre is set up. You buy your snacks at the same desk you buy your tickets. I think that takes much longer to get through the line and everyone doesn't want snacks so they are waiting for everyone to get there's before they can get into their movie. Very weird set up. It's the only theatre I know that does this. I do like how they are doing their social distancing so I will definitely go again. They are also showing more movies than other theatres in the area. read more

NOTHING, I repeat NOTHING in the entire lobby or any other area inside about the movie. I am appalled and quite frankly pissed off. So we sell out your theater of the Color Purple, yet we're not important enough to you to at least promote the damn movie. Stonybrook has the AMC Stubs A-List, which allows you to see up to three movies a week for $20 a month which makes it really inexpensive to see movies. You also get free upgrades on drinks & popcorn. A lot of times you get coupons for free popcorn too. So that program is really great. Stonybrook itself kind of sucks. The seats are outdated and oftentimes actually falling apart/broken. I think this is the only non-updated theater in Louisville, which sucks since it's also the only one with AMC Stubs A-List. Without that program, I would NEVER come to Stonybrook. The lobby is nice and there's plenty of seating areas. The employees have also always been friendly and accommodating. read more
