I bought a Groupon to have my Chimney Cleaned by American Chimney Pros. They were suppose to arrive at 8am but did not arrive until 9:45; when they were 45 minutes late, I called them, they did not bother to contact me to inform me they were running late. I showed them in and provided them with access to my roof. After about 20 minutes they let me know they could not clean my chimney. They claimed the bristles of their brushes will not go through; however they said they could return to clean my chimney for $250.00; they also provided me with a proposal to line my chimneys. They informed me my chimney are not lined--the problem is my chimneys are lined, I had the work completed by Beantown Chimney Sweeps is 2010. I believe the man in charge, Gary, saw me as a single woman he could exploit and try to convince needs work that has already been done. These guys are scam artists, beware!! read more

Found American Chimney Pros on Yelp and decided to give them a try. Pros...showed up the day I called around the time they said they would arrive, very friendly and clean (put a drop cloth down). Cons...pricey. To clean out the furnace flue (12') it cost $250. My fault, as I should have called around first but based on reviews on other chimney sweeps this seems high. Edited 3/9/15 Just got a quote from another Chimney Sweep for $79! I would not use American Chimney Pros. The woman that was with the gentleman seemed to question the $250 which is when I should have stopped the transaction and gotten other quotes. My fault but just want to warn others. Gary and his team were great. We had an issue that required a cleaning and some work. Gary came out checked my entire systems (two flues, vents, chimney and roof). He told me that I needed some work, and provided a quote and a timetable for completion. I scheduled my repair and Gary came right out. His team completed all of the work and charged me a very fair price. While working Gary was very friendly and outgoing. He answered all of my questions, and showed me what he was doing every step of the way. He had no problem taking a minute to discuss what he was doing and how he was doing it. During the initial inspection phase he showed me everything that needed to be repaired and what he was going to fix. This brought me piece of mind and made me feel good about using him and his team. He reviewed all the work he was going to complete and what was involved. At the end of the day I have a new flue liner and chimney cap. I also have a new Chimney Sweep. Not worth the groupon!! The tech was more interests in grabbing extra jobs than anything else. He did not even clean my chimney you just did a quick inspection said it was fine. He claimed that my damper gear was rotted. After another inspection it was perfectly fine but now I'm out of a damper which I did not have to pay out-of-pocket. American Chimney Pros was great -- until they were not. Gary put in a front walkway for me. He swore he would not cement the bluestone until I got back from my trip. He did -- and he did it in a way that lacked a complete foundation to lay the stone on. The result is moisture under the stone -- and the grout is ALWAYS wet. The work is incredibly sloppy. After paying a small fortune for the work I'm just waiting for it to fall apart. The stone looked bad too -- and in trying to "fix" it, he made it worse. It's completely stained and it made the front of my home look awful. Gary was given multiple times to fix this problem -- and he won't even call me back. I would have much preferred just finding a mutually acceptable way to have him fix it -- but he won't. I'm out a bunch of money and I have this awful walk to content with. And, I'm about to take further action b/c he simply won't respond to my calls. Don't hire Gary. He may have had people who like him write great reviews -- but when the going gets tough, he is not only unethical -- but he took no pride in his work. Called Gary for some fireplace, chimney and flue work. He gave me an estimate, arrival time, confirmed the day before and then showed up and got the work done. Stuck by the estimate even when the job ended up being more involved than expected. Good straightforward work at competitive prices without any drama or price changes. I called a different chimney business to perform routine maintenance on my fireplace as it had been about 6 years since I had the chimney swept. We had no problem with it and had had several fires this season without any issues. It took months to get an appointment and when they did the inspection, they said that I had major issues with my chimney and gave me their recommendations to make my chimney safe- at a cost of $16,000. A neighbor recommended Gary so I called him up for another opinion. He picked up immediately and happened to be finishing up nearby and offered to take a look the same day. He spent about 15 minutes looking at the chimney and in the basement and told me that my chimney was in great shape, no need for any work- not even a cleaning. He did recommend I burn a creosote sweeping log and told me how to make the best use of it, which I did that night. Gary explained his findings and I can't thank him enough- his honesty saved me from either paying $16,000 or having to stop using my fireplace- don't call anyone else! read more

Turns out they didn't seal the cracks outside, just covered them up. We had to hire someone to redo it.

They sent a very polite "young" man. He seemed unsure and a bit awkward. I asked him how long he had been servicing chimney's, he responded 2, 3 months. I was very leary but put trust in the company that sent him. Everything seemed to go very well. That week my husband went to light the fireplace and were smoked out. My husband called my neighbor a firefighter, between the two of them they discovered a large nest in the chimney. When the man from American Chimney Pros cleaned the chimney why didn't he see this??? I should have trusted my gut and told the young man to leave! As I had to have my home cleaned of smoke and soot. I had a good experience with ACP. I needed a sweep on short notice and saw this company's Groupon. I called to ask about it and they told me that I was out of the 20 mile range to use the coupon and not to buy it. Fair enough - they were up front about it. Their stock rate was comparable - I had called around. Gary and crew showed up on time and spent about an hour on the cleaning (according to my tenants). They diagnosed that my damper was shot - which I could believe as it is probably literally 100 years old. I had to arrange several schedules to allow access to the roof and ACP worked with me on it. On the date of service they arrived early/on time (again) and made quick work of the repair which involved a couple of tricky items up on the roof of a brownstone. I didn't compare quotes for the damper install but it seemed in line with a previous damper I had done years ago. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with American Chimney Pros. read more

Ok hold on. This cool guy and lady come by a bit earlier than their scheduled time. The guy looks up in my chimney and says, jokingly, "this sucks." I laugh, immediately getting it. He says there's nothing to do, the chimney's clean. I hadn't gotten a chimney sweep in over a decade, but he said "you must be burning good wood (I am), with nice hot fires. It's fine." Then they left, no charge. I have to say this guy is nice, funny, and apparantly ethical too. And by the way, their initial quote was cheaper than other chimney businesses I spoke with. read more

He came over the same day and immediately found the problem. Gary was so helpful and informative. I really appreciate everything he and his crew did to help. They worked cleanly and were very nice people. Gary's Midwestern sense of humor will have you laugh and roll your eyes. Fun to do business with him. But it was all the knowledge he shared that was impressive. He patiently answered all my questions. I have an old historic house with a lot of mysteries with my fireplaces but after thinking it through, Gary had it figured out! Really smart, logical guy behind the corny jokes! I recently purchased a new home and wanted to be sure that the chimney and fireplace would be all set for the winter as the previous owner hadn't used the fireplace in years, so I set up an appointment with American Chimney Pros to have them clean and inspect my chimney. The worker came and took one look and said that the chimney was already clean and tiles were in good condition and he would be robbing me if he charged me for a cleaning, so he only charged me for an inspection (about $200 cheaper)!!! He also inspected the exterior bricks for me at no extra charge! I will definitely be calling them again next year! read more
