We called Safe Chimneys to come out and take a look at the crumbling mortar between the bricks of our chimney. Dave, the owner came out and gave us a fair estimate. I have called Safe Chimney several times and had an excellent experience every time. Dave is very punctual and polite. He came to visit my home before I even owned it, we were getting some additional inspections completed due to a recommendation from our home inspector. He was very informative and thorough and did not charge us for the visit. The second time I called Safe Chimney, we discovered we had squirrels nesting in our chimney. Dave explained that we needed to cap our chimney but that we needed to wait until the squirrels were big enough to leave the nest. Dave came by 3 times before he was actually able to cap our chimney to make sure the squirrels were gone! read more

Beware. They came to do an inspection and sweeping and suggested that thousands of dollars of work was needed on our wood stoves. I asked for a written quote but never received one. Instead I called another company for a second opinion who charged me $50 for a minor repair and then said they were otherwise in good working order. read more

I'm applying for a state funded HEAT loan to put in a new furnace. This requires me to have my chimney lined, i called these guys for an estimate he seemed sketched out about how he was going to get paid but came to take a look anyway. When he got here he did not introduce himself the first thing he wanted to know was if i figured out my money situation. who was going to give him the deposit. i told him i could give him the deposit. i told him in order for me to get the HEAT loan i need to submit quotes from all contractors doing work relating to my furnace. so here we are in my basement he's inspecting the chimney i had to run upstairs to find out how many btu's my new furnace would be while im up there maybe 1 minute i hear his truck start and he drove off never said a word. It is funny that they are not out of business yet. What they did is - they broke my chimney. It was working before - they did liner (needed to move to gas) and chimney stop working. The price for liner was 2 times more than average price at the moment ($2000+ instead of $1000+). To repair chimney they charge me more for other unnecessary job, Nothing helped. Then company stop receiving my calls (I've demanded my money back). I was in need of some paperwork to show inspector (during transition from oil to gas). Company not called me back, so I've found home address of the owner in Needham and showed up. I do not understand why I even need to pay other company to inspect liner and pay $200 more if Safe Chimney can just give me the affidavit they installed the liner. It may resulted in my arrest or his arrest or his dog shut by police. OK, I payed $200 more to other company for inspection but... finally I'll go after the Safe Chimney. I can not tell here how owner called me names, as idiot and moron was one of the most polite. So, stay away. They have I believe, even some psychiatric issues. read more

We called Safe Chimneys to come out and take a look at our chimney. We have a family of 10 squirrels nesting in there and they are clogging the exhaust for the boiler. The person we spoke with said a guy could come out and take a look the next morning between 7:30am and 8am and sure enough, at 8:30am he hadn't arrived yet. We called to see what was going on and the guy said he forgot to come, then proceeded to hang up on us. They apparently don't want our business. read more

these guys are as good as it gets. dave (i think is the owner) was professional, dependable, honest and super accommodating (pretty funny too.) although they are very busy he offered to come out and make a special trip because my circumstances were unique. he was honest and the price that he quoted me on the phone was actually the price i was charged. no hidden fees or "need to do" upgrades. i would definitely use again and will recommend him to all of my friends. they were not the "cheapest", but you really do get what you pay for here great service and they are also part of the Chimney Safety Institute of America. read more

Excellent, can't recommend this company enough. Had them out to do an estimate for some water and age damage to my chimney and roof. Dave, the owner, walked me through each step as he inspected the house, explaining what needed to be done and what it would cost. They came back three weeks later to do the work - fast, clean, and correct. If I ever need chimney work again, I know who to call. read more

On 9/23/13, Safe Chimney (SC) cleaned my 6 inch pipe which extended from the back of my wood stove straight up though the ceiling and a small roof above. The SC guy did the cleaning from the front of the stove and used a brush that was much smaller than the 6 inch diameter. I asked the cleaner if he could thoroughly clean a larger diameter pipe with a small brush and he said he could. I asked if he could get all the way up to the top of the pipe without going on the roof. He confirmed that also. He completed the job in about 30 minutes and I paid the $179 special price (ad said price was normally $50 higher). I spoke to a chimney sweeper about that process and this person said he used the same approach -- going through the wood stove and up the pipe. But he also said it would not be advised to use a brush that was significantly smaller than the 6 inch diameter. I then bought a brush and extender kit and climbed on the roof and redid the job myself. When I took the cap off the pipe, it exposed thick soot at the top section of the pipe. It was then obvious that the brush he used did not do the job or extend far enough up to the top. I made sure I got the pipe clean with a 6 inch brush. I called the SC guy who did the job and shared all the information above in order to give him a chance to respond. He was polite and repeated what he said when he did the job -- that he felt he got everything and did a thorough job. Based on what I experienced, the time I had to spend to redo the job, I pretty much lost $179 plus time. I suggest that other potential customers make sure they question SC on their process and check the work before paying read more
