Still our first call when we have any problems with our fireplace. Steven is friendly, competent, and honest. Our fireplace would go out after about 30 mins and keep turning itself off and on. Steven exceeded my expectations when he removed a 30+year old Lopi stove. The stove is large and heavy. He methodically pulled it out of my fireplace, tied and lifted it, and wheeled it onto his truck. All safety measures followed. My floors and doors were protected. My wife and I just bought a place, but prior to moving in, we ordered a chimney inspection. Our realtor recommended going with American Chimney Service. The day of our appointment, Steven kept calling our realtor letting us know that he was running a little late due to crazy 880 rush hour traffic (that was the only available time I was available to be at the property - my fault). Steven came prepared and ready to work. After explaining every little detail; from how the chimney functions, what's safe, recommendations, etc, he went on to clean the chimney and do a further inspection. Steven Lewis came in my cottage without a floor covering or tool bag removed fireplace cover and placed cover on my rug! I had to put down newspaper for him to put cover on. Then he asked me a lot of questions I did not have answers to about my non-working Valor fireplace. Said he needed to find a model number he did not see inside unit. Was going to call me back after his research. I contacted former owner for model number and emailed number to him next day, but never heard from him again. He did not answer my call backs. Steve walked us through every step of the process, was so easy to work with, and really cares about what he does. We had a non-functioning wood burning fireplace and wanted a gas insert, needed a little repair done to chimney, and then we wanted a new brick face on the fireplace itself. Plus, after we had the brick face put in, Steve noticed something that HE wasn't quite happy with, and asked if he could redo the brick (after it had already been laid) so that it looked just right! We had Steve from American Chimney come and he swept the chimney and tuck-pointed the firebox. Very professional and friendly and the place is spotless now that he is done. He had to dismount the fireplace doors and pull out the heat exchanger and he cleaned the bras fireplace doors as well, which I did not expect. Steve was great in installing/converting our wood burning fireplace into gas logs, we really have enjoyed it over the years. Last fall Steve came by to service our fireplace, upon inspection he discovered we needed a repair. Fine! He said he would order the part could be a week or 10 days at best/ will coincide with a project in our neighborhood. I have called on numerous occasions, husband has called, just s few days ago, Steve's call dropped. My husband tried calling to never reach him. This review is long overdue. Steve repaired our gas fireplace in early 2017 and he did a wonderful job! He replaced a broken switch and then meticulously cleaned the fireplace. Steven was referred to me by another chimney repair company that doesn't do metal fireplaces. We had to play phone tag for 2 weeks but he kept up his end until we connected and then he was so generous with his time in listening to my problem and suggesting solutions I could try myself before setting up a service call and talking about it with me further after I did what he suggested. He offered to review photos I could take of the problem and to continue helping via phone without any compensation. I initially had Steve do a cleaning of my fireplace insert in spring of 2014. He was pleasant, polite, thorough in doing the job. Additionally, he left the fireplace as clean if not cleaner than it was before he came. Thus, it was natural that I asked him to come back just recently when the remote on my insert was not working correctly. After cleaning all the components very thoroughly (again) he determined that it was simply 'a loose wire' and maybe old batteries that needed to be replaced. Ours had been neglected for at least 3 years--since we bought the house. He gave it an incredibly thorough cleaning (I had no idea how many interior components had to be taken out, cleaned, and later reassembled.) He laid down blankets and used special vacuum equipment so that our living room remained spotless. And afterwards he showed me how all the interior controls work. My husband and I recently moved into a home with a gas fireplace. We'd never used one before and were reluctant to try it without an inspection and a lesson in how to use it. I called another fireplace company, and after he spoke to his parts supplier he said it sounded like a unit that would be too old to get parts for should they be needed, so he wasn't interested, but referred me to American Chimney and Steven. Steven really knows his stuff! He completely cleaned the logs, rock wool, and fire box, which were covered in dust from a previous remodel of the house before we owned it, got it working beautifully, and explained clearly and comprehensively how to turn the pilot on and off, operate the damper, and everything else we needed to know.
