I had 3 roof, siding and gutter/gutter guard contractors give me an estimate. One contractor after the inital meeting said he would submit an estimate , the second contractor sent 2 men and then followed up with an email wanting another meeting with a 3rd representative from their company. Neither of these 2 contractors were prepared to give and estimate and presented no samples of the products they represented, and no color samples. I am still waiting for their estimates. It was a waste of my time. However, Avi, from American Custom Contractors was fully prepared with samples, recommendations and was able to give me my estimate in less than 30 minutes after we agreed on the products and colors. He had the software to input the data and presented an estimate that was within my budget with the first meeting. He was very professional, knowledgeable, timely, considerate and responsive to all my questions even after I signed the contract. Outshined the first contractor I had in for mutual estimate. Their industry knowledge stood out and warranty on their work couldn't be touched. They also gave a better price offered by first contractor. They installed the roof during the winter months and very little daylight. However they made sure not to leave the work in an unfinished or uncovered state if there was rain over night. They even offered to comeback and do an inspection before warranty runs out. I called and scheduled an appointment. I met with Stephen Mead, their sales manager. We decided it was time to replace my roof. Because my roof was leaking, he found a way to give me a quicker sales appointment than scheduled. I was impressed. When I started this project, I had a set budget in mind, but was quite afraid of the potential costs, and potholes that might occur. I'm extremely particular in the way I want things done, and from my time with Steve, I could tell they would meet my needs. They offered a quote with superior products in our budget. I like the fact that they offer a 50-year roof. Who does that? To get to this point, Steve spent a lot of time with me explaining my options and materials. When a hail storm hits, you can be bombarded with "experts" knocking at your door, calling at all hours and flyers in your mail, about how great they are and how they will be the perfect roofer for you. Turned off by all the solicitation and thinking we did not have hail/wind damage, we ignored them all. Then one day, a blue American Custom Contractors sign appeared in my neighbors yard and they were talking to my other neighbor about their roof. I quickly googled them, saw great reviews and decided to invite them to look at my roof. Best decision I made regarding my roof in a long time! They were professional from day one. Made working with my insurance company easy since as we know, insurance companies do not like to be easy. They met the adjuster on site, walked my roof with them, walked me through the estimates that the insurance company sent me, made sure that I was comfortable with the estimates, explained the process very well and took complete control of the project. Every day during the project I had constant emails or calls from Suzanne at the office. She is awesome! A week ago, a company of which I will not name, came knocking on our door telling us that there was recently a lot of hail damage in our area and they wanted to check our roof to see if we were eligible for a new roof. Well, indeed we were "eligible" according to them. Had them out to look at damaged siding (they originally installed) and for a two windows that I wished to replace. Two employees came out and were to send quotes. Never got the quotes. I called the office a number of times and was assured quotes were coming, or that another person was coming to precisely measure for the windows. Avoid! They won't stop harassing me. They have knocked on my door at least 8 times over the past several months, they have called me on the phone numerous times, and they have even emailed me. I told them over and over to stop and they won't. Their relentless solicitation is unwelcome and unprofessional. Chooser a roofer that doesn't resort to high-pressure sales tactics. Don't fall for the free roof inspection trick. If you do get a free roof inspection, don't be surprised to find several shingles suddenly missing (pulled off) from your roof. That happened to one of my neighbors -- I saw it firsthand. They have a large sales staff and they use high-pressure tactics. They are relentless. Do NOT give them ANY of your contact information unless you are willing to be harassed for the next 10 months. They do not take "no" for an answer. I speak from personal experience. They don't have their own employees doing the work. They use laborers. The company admitted that to me. But they promised that they would use only the "A+" workers for me! No credibility. Don't sign any paperwork unless you have multiple bids and have read everything VERY carefully. Be sure to read the fine print about how they will penalize you if you decide to choose a different roofer. Avoid! read more

you can't spell contractor without a con. that is why it took me so long to decide upon choosing a contractor to replace a couple of windows, one door + frame, and some old woodwork over our front door. i went through a number of different companies, large and small, and settled on American Custom due to a couple of reasons. 1. they gave a fair price 2. they do not sub contract any of their craftsmen. all of their people are employees of the company (at least they said so). 3.their background. i checked out their history on line and couldn't find anything negative about their work. i must admit that we did play a tennis match with details and questions before settling upon a contract. once the ink dried and the deposit was cashed, that's when things started to chug along. when we first got the estimate, it was billed as an one day job, and perhaps i should have known that when i was called about four times to try and schedule a time for the carpenter to make final measurements, that things weren't going to go as planned. we had set a date and time, but i kept getting calls to rearrange the time or date because the carpenter was stuck somewhere or having issues with another job he was on at the time. it was as if they were expecting me to convince them. who's working for whom here? i am well aware, that when it comes any remodeling job, there are always some unforeseen problems that may arise that may delay. that being said, as soon as the carpenter came in with his assistant, i was notified that it would be a 2 day job, not the 1 day job that was agreed upon. of course they say this after showing up late. ok, whatever. you're here. let's get the job done. oopps. we don't have all that we need. we're going to have to make a run to the hardware store. great. there is a giant whole in my house. it's a good thing i planned to stay home this day. they come back and get back to putting in the windows. they don't get to the door. we're going to have to come back tomorrow. we can come early tomorrow and we can lock up after we are done. ummmmmm. no. i leave for work at 6:00 am and i'm not leaving you guys alone with my wife and daughter. he looks incredulous. you can do all the outside work, but you are going to have to reschedule another date for the door. they do and eventually the final phase of the project is completed. a 3 day job originally slated for 1 day. a few days later, I get an email and a letter for the final invoice. it says i have ten days to pay in full from the job completion date or a small % interest would be slapped onto the total. i was under the assumption that most invoices had a 30 day pay period, so i never asked about the final bill or read through the fine print. the 10 day pay up policy was never mentioned by anyone from the company. it's a good thing i had the money to pay for the entire job in full on day one. frustrating service aside, at the end of the day it's about the end result and the craftsmanship by American Custom carpenters are commendable. all of the windows, door and frame, and woodwork look very nice. that's what will be the plus when it comes time to sell the house, not the equivocating service. i'm still puzzled as to why they just sent out 2 guys to do the work, when all they had to do was send out 4 guys and all the work would have been done in a snap. there is an obvious disconnect from the pitchman and the carpenters at American Custom. i am going to have more work done on my house in the near future, so it looks like i will be looking around for more contractors. if i could sum up the end result of the work done by American Custom Contractors in a single word - satisfactory. read more

The most incredibly RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL door to door experience I have ever had in my entire life. I was polite and told them I was not interested as to not waste any time for either of us but they would NOT leave my door and kept banging on it. It only resolved when my neighbor had to come over with her dog to also politely ask them to leave. The manager was there in the vehicle transporting the two sales people around. They claimed that they were not soliciting business. That is an outright LIE they had just hit my neighbors house with the same RUDE and UNWILLING to leave when asked to. This is NOT how you run a business, I will NEVER consider your company now and you can be very sure that if you continue this way nobody in Highland MD will ever consider your services. Late last summer, we noticed a lot of signs for American Custom Contractors (ACC) going up in our neighborhood. When we asked about it, we found out that nearly every house in our neighborhood experienced extensive roof damage due to a hail storm that occurred while we were on vacation. We couldn't tell that from looking at our roof, so we contacted our insurance company regarding their assessment of storm damage and the contractors doing roof replacements. They acknowledged that the storm had caused significant damage in our area and that they had a good relationship with resolving claim issues with American Custom Contractors. Based on the positive feedback from our neighbors and our insurance company, we met with Demetri, the CEO of ACC. He personally assessed the damage at our house and outlined the claim process and met with the insurance adjuster whose assessment matched exceptionally close with his own: we needed to have our roof, siding and gutters replaced - nearly all covered by our insurance. Demetri took considerable time to explain what would be done and offered us some excellent advice about the selection of roofing and siding materials. We asked for several additional things be done at our expense (e.g., removing leaky skylights) and these were nicely folded into his very detailed statement of work. It all came off without a hitch .... Well with the exception of a few bad weather delays. The roof replacement was a large job, but efficiently well done within two consecutive days. Cleanup was very thorough - not an easy task in itself. We are indebted to Gabriel who led the roofing crew. Next followed siding replacement scheduled for 5 days, but an early winter weather pattern forced this into a two-week span - even so, the crew had to work a few days in below-freezing weather. Their craftsmanship was so excellent that we put in additional work orders (reasonably priced!) to replace the ceiling for our wrap-around front porch as well as some additional trim work. We got to know this crew fairly well and would certainly recommend this team led by Michael Ko to anyone. The gutter replacement followed the siding work and this crew was also excellent and readily accepted a last minute change order for larger 6" gutters. What really made all of this work so well for us was the onsite field management by Steve who also facilitated the last minute change orders, and the timely communications with Suzanne who also ordered materials, scheduled the crews, and followed up with us on nearly every aspect of the project. We were really impressed with how well she juggled all of this and kept us up-to-date. In summary...this was a great team effort and we could not have been more pleased. We also learned a lot from the craftsmen and as a result came to not only appreciate their craft but respect their work ethic as well. In fall 2015, there were many roof replacements going on in our community, due to hailing in the summer. The majority of the roof replacement jobs were done by a particular roofing company. Not surprisingly, the same aggressive roofing company came to knock my door. They promised they would deal with the insurance company, and handle all procedures as long as we allowed them to check for roof damage and file a claim. After the inspection, I was convinced by them that the roof should be replaced. With doubts in my mind, I was looking for a second opinion. A neighbor recommended American Custom Contractors. I met the salesman, Jim Mueller in March 2016. In order to get an unbiased opinion, I didn't tell him the roof should be replaced. After 20 minutes inspection, he told us that the roof was strong like a tank. No replacement is needed. We were pleasantly surprised that he didn't try to steal the business. Another review mentioned that you cannot spell contractor without "con". While in a spelling contest that may be accurate, I think that in reality American Custom Contractors breaks the trend. I recognize that everyone has their own experience, but mine was completely different in a positive way! Taking longer than estimated to do a good job is not called a "con" it's called "patience". About a year ago I had American Custom Contractors along with others come to my house for estimates on a new roof. Having a corporate sales background I carefully did my best to weed through the quotes of desperation (those guys who always come in cheaper) and those who I simply lacked confidence in. After careful consideration I chose them for a variety of reasons: I felt comfortable with the explanations given, the price was reasonable, their reputation was strong, and the referrals from previous customers were solid. Needless to say I was not disappointed. I will admit that everything didn't go as planned, but most importantly, it was all resolved to my liking in an efficient and timely manner. In fact, one of the owners (Demetri) came to my house after the completion of the job to make sure I was satisfied. I'm confident that I received quality products and a company that will back them for years to come at a reasonable price. Being a year later, my roof looks great and I am still confident in my decision. Two other families I know have used them and have had positive experiences as well.
