A surprisingly solid place that offers really good food, drinks and bowling. I came here as a group outing, and didn't have many expectations. The service was amazing, the flatbread was freshly made and delicious, the drinks were great, and the bowling was fun. I really liked the bake potato and Hawaiian with pork. It gets popular and make sure you book your reservation in advance. Highly recommend this place and will return again later. That being said, parking can be tricky. I came here on a weekend afternoon and the parking lot across the street was full. There are 3 street metered spots directly outside. I ended up finding another lot that was a 10-min walk away, and it offered 3-hour parking. So come early to find parking or prepare to walk. read more

Merica!!! Most certainly a neighborhood gem. The warm & rustic ambiance is incredibly welcoming as you walk in and immediately you know... this is place is old school and I love it. Then right away, other than the multiple candle pin lanes & children playing and having a great time, is their pizza oven! The wood-fired oven is front and center, and you can actually watch your pizza being made fresh -- it adds to the whole experience. The flatbreads are a treat. The crust is nicely crisp with just the right amount of chew, and the toppings are fresh, flavorful, and thoughtfully sourced. Either build your own and chose from their exciting menu options. Then of course there's beer They have a great selection of local beer that hit quite nicely. And the staff were extremely friendlier and attentive. They really make you feel like a valued guest. Celebrated a joint sweet 16 birthday here, the kids had a lot of fun candlepin bowling. Food was delicious. Interesting that the flatbread is sliced rectangular instead of in wedges but didn't bother me. Crust isn't super crispy and slices are floppy so easier to cut with fork and knife on a plate vs holding by hand. But 'most important- delicious! Wish there were more appetizer options on the menu. So my first time here was back in 2021 and I just noticed I didn't write a review! Let's see how much I remember.. We came here in the summertime of 2021 and sat outside. We ordered the Pepperoni & Mushroom and a half Flyin Hawaiian with pork and half of... to be honest I can't remember the name but it was a Korean influenced pizza with steak and a gochujang-aioli sauce, it was honestly the best of the 3 flavors. Maybe it was a Carne Special at the time. We also ordered a house salad and the house dressing for the salad was so good I asked if I could carry the rest home since we ordered it on the side. -------- We came back here again this past weekend with some friends visiting from out of state and we were planning to do some bowling. There were no lanes open yet so we got a table to sit, eat, drink and chat a bit till a lane opened up. We ordered the Flyin Hawaiian again but with chicken this time and tried the Carne Special which was a burger-style pizza. We are die-hard fans of The Flatbread Company franchise that's scattered throughout New England. The American Flatbread company seems like a close (almost too close) spin-off of that franchise and for those reasons we had very high expectations. The staff and the kitchen did not disappoint, it was beautiful cocktails and beautiful pizza! They also had a bowling alley (which you need to plan for a long night in order to play on).... Good news: I love this place - the pizza is great. Now for the bad news. We went there on a Sat. night a few weeks ago around 5pm. There were 4 of us, and we we told that we could not get in for dining because we did not have a reservation. We were not bowling. Fast forward. I am on hold now to speak with management because when I called to make a reservation for tonight (again Sat. with 4 people), I was told that they did not take reservations for under 10 people and never did. What?? Just got off the phone with the manager who told me that they only do call-ahead. Fun fact to know before going to Flatbread. Call-ahead 1/2 is the best they can do for under 10 people. I must say the manager Olivia was very nice and professional so we will be trying the call ahead tonight. Did the call ahead - worked well! Olivia was there and was wonderful and went out of her way to make sure we got a great table and everything we wanted. The service was great, good pizza, and we had a fun time. Variety of pizza topping options that range from goat cheese hawaiian(?) to sausage sun dried tomatoes(?). If you're confused by the topping assortments just know you're not alone. The flavors speak for themselves as the flatbreads are cooked perfectly charred on the bottom and gooey up top. Service was quick and easily accessible. We had the veggie special. I asked for it to be the vegan option (dairy free) because I forgot my lactaid at home! Luckily they had this option. This is the best pizza texture I've tried in Davis Square. Its thin, crusty, and not dry - you can eat the crust without feeling all thirsty. For a full veggie/vegan option, this tasted better than I expected. It's hard to find a pizza that won't ruin my stomach, but still taste good. The apple sauce was drizzled on top and gave a light sweet taste. It is packed on a Friday night. Make sure you plan ahead if you're making your way here from afar. We couldn't get any bowling lane for two and was told its usually reserved on weekend nights by guests of 8+ people. We will probably come back on a weekday. Had a hearty but balanced dinner at the bar recently (no reservation, on a Sunday early evening). Service was great and friendly, waters always filled. We tried their daily special pizza (miso veggie) and a more traditional pepperoni/peppers. Both were super crispy with a good ratio of toppings. I loved how the server gave us a few hot sauces to try with them, too. We also ordered one individual Evolution salad to split between 2 people and it was plenty (and delicious!). American Flatbreads is a comfortable restaurant, bar, and bowling alley. I personally eat the salad every time I go because of the quality farm to table greens it has with a tasty dressing and even like the seaweed. I often get the farm fresh cheese on the salad. The cocktails always outstanding recipes. The beer collection are always local source and the best of the best. My wife like the wine selection too. The pizza are also the best, you can find something for everybody, even vegan. The meats on the pizza are often freshly roasted or pulled chicken/pork. Not your ordinary rare much better. read more

American Flatbread gets points for the cool aesthetic and points off for the candle pins bowling and style of pizza. The bowling at American is not your typical bowling. They use smaller balls, maybe weighing five pounds and the size of grapefruits. It sort of makes the game harder because the ball is the width of a single pin and therefore usually can't have the strikes you get with normal bowling. You do get three tries instead of two for each round. The aesthetic is great, I'll give it that. This would probably be a great place to sit in and have a beer. But a pizza? I was not a fan of the pizza. I'm not sure what my group ordered, but it must have been the Buffalo Chicken because there was celery on the pizza. Who puts celery on pizza? Also, it didn't taste at all like Buffalo Chicken, or even good at all. I would not come here for the pizza/flatbread. All in all, I'd come here if I wasn't actually serious about bowling - maybe if I had small children who'd have an easier time tossing the smaller bowling balls and wouldn't mind not hitting any pins. I gave flatbread 5 stars but I would give is infinite stars if that was possible. I am 12 and I went to flatbread just me and my 11yr friend. 1st the bowling was amazing. The service was very fast. When we were done bowling we sat down to eat the stone fire made for a beautiful. The person who served us was the kindest person you will ever meet. Her name was Olivia and she was so sweet and made my day. I also have nut allergies and flatbread is completely nut free. The food was also fast to come. The pizza I got phenomenal. I ate at American Flatbread while at Sacco's to bowl. I really enjoyed how the wait staff would bring the pizza right to your lane! I tried the plain pizza and the Buffalo chicken - I preferred the plain because the Buffalo chicken seemed to have more sauce/celery/carrots than actual chicken. The potato and chive pizza looked interesting, but not my cup of tea. I liked how they cut the pizza to make it more of a flatbread than traditional triangle slices, but it did make it a bit harder to eat. Overall, pretty solid and well seasoned. read more

I was introduced to this spot by a friend who lives nearby and I wish I knew about it earlier! The environment is very family friendly, relaxing, and homey. You can see the pizza being baked in the open oven, which is always a fun little thing to have. I'm very picky with my pizza crusts and I loved the ones here. It was thin, crispy and didn't fall apart or droop from the toppings. We got the half and half of two of their current specials (the names of the specials is escaping me but I have a photo) and they were both great. Packed with flavors that worked very well together. Fun time here! I had half mushroom uncured pepperoni, half Vermont goat cheese, kalamata olive, rosemary, roasted red pepper. I liked the tanginess of the goat cheese, but have to say my favorite was the pepperoni side. Can't beat that pepperoni- big, thin, crisp, and tasty. We ordered the Veggie Special of the Day, the Jimmy John's, and a Plain flatbread. I would say they were good, not $20 per flatbread good, but good. My primary complaint would be that there was way too much crust. They really could spread more toppings and cheese across the flatbread. The place is really cool with a bowling alley, wood fired ovens and a very open floor plan. The open floor plan also ups the noise level making it hard to talk to the person across the table from you. There was about an hour wait for a table on a Saturday evening. We were able to call ahead and put our name on the list. Flatbread is a fun, energetic place, but on the pricier side for what you get. read more

Hip(ster), local, quirky, chaotic. Flatbreads is Somerville epitomized. You have to really want it though. Once I had plans to go with a friend on a Thursday at 8, so I tried calling ahead for dinner reservations. They let me know nuhuh that wasn't gonna happen. But I could call in about half an hour before showing up to hopefully get a better spot on the list and not wait as long. Alrighty then. That's what I did, and it actually worked out great! We got seated right away. The hostesses always seem to be in a rush and a bit stressed, but I can understand - what with the food and the bowling and the hipsters - there's a lot going on. Unfortunately, I've never gotten the chance to bowl. Another time, I signed up my group around 7 PM on a Saturday and was told there was a super slim chance that we'd get a turn. We were a bit disappointed, but the tasty food cheered us up, and we moved on. Then I get a call at 11:30 PM saying we were next on the list if we were still up for it! Too late, Flatbreads. You were being flaky, so we went with Plan B for the night. Even if you don't get to play, however, the candlepin bowling is a cool, very New England backdrop. I dig it. As for the food, my recommendation is to try the pizza. Any pizza. Being a pretty carnivorous chick, I often find veggie options at restaurants boring. Not here! Their creativity makes even a veg crave-worthy. The last time I came, we ordered their veggie special with sweet potato puree, goat cheese, figs, and carmelized onions. The sweetness of the toppings was perfectly complimented by the chewy, slightly charred crust. I'd call that pretty special indeed (Although admittedly it would have been out of this world with some prosciutto to further counterbalance the sweetness. Sorry my meat-lover is showing again). Skip the salad, though. It made be made with local ingredients and all that jazz, but I found it to be pretty tasteless. Oh and don't forget the beer! They offer a great number of local options (served in the brewery's own glasses) at super affordable prices (around $5). Drink decisions can often be a challenge for me, so I let my server know that I don't like hoppy beers and asked for her recommendations. "Well this is Davis, after all, so most of the beers are pretty hoppy. That's also why there's so much whiskey in our mixed drinks." See, they don't even try to hide how hipser they are. Hilarious. She then goes off and brings me four (4!) samples of different beers so that I can make an informed decision. This was much appreciated, as even the "non-hoppy" beers felt hoppy to my palate. I ended up going with a watermelon one that was served with a huge chunk of melon on the rim, and it was a great decision. Don't leave this Davis dive withing indulging in dessert! Last time, we got the special on the chalkboard which was pound cake a la mode with a blueberry compote. The cake was warmed in their wood-fire over so was slightly charred. A solid summer sweet, to say the least. My favorite dessert there is the brownie sundae, which is also warmed up in that oven. I recommend ordering it with one scoop vanilla and one scoop pumpkin ice creams. Any place that serves pumpkin-flavored things outside of fall earns high marks in my book. Come over to Flatbreads to have some locally-produced pizza, hoppy beer, maybe bowl in a few hours if you're lucky, and get the true Somerville hipster experience. read more

This is a nice restaurant with specially cooked flat bread pizza in stoves. Fresh and delicious. I believe the bread dough is made in a special way because it tastes vey sticky and chewy. Slightly pricy for the food itself but it's a fun place anyways. The large pizza costs 19 plus each. The atmosphere is like a cozy family especially kid friendly place. The tables are very wide to serve big plates of pizza. And beaches and booth seats are very cozy and relaxing. There are at least two kids' patries during the Saturday night when we dined there. One thing I don't like is this place smells weird...... I'm not sure if it's because my nose is too sensitive or a pair of shoes or bowling shoes were nearby my seats for some reason...... I can just smell it during that dinner ...... which made me very uncomfortable. After a while it went away. It's quite busy during Saturday night. I also noticed that a lot of people take pizzas home and order delivery from here. That might worths trying. read more

Visited on a Thursday night in November 2018. We were a group of 4 guys and a first time for all of us trying our candle pin bowling. Bowling lanes were booked (It usually is booked and the wait is about 1-2 hours) so we wrote down our name and headed to have pizza and beer. We've been here three times for kids birthday parties. I hesitate to write this review as I'd selfishly like to keep it a secret, but this is the best kids birthday venue in the area. The bowling is with the small balls and pins, very easy for kids, plus they have bumpers and even a little device for really small kids where they just set the ball on the tray and it rolls down. The pizza is great, and they make it in a fire oven on site. They also have good coffee and drinks. The staff was very friendly, and helpful. read more
