It's super thin, which I normally don't like, but the crust is crispy yet doughy at the same time. It's perfection, and I love that the dough has flavor. We got the medicine ball pizza with pepperoni and the maple sausage... both were amazing. Packed with a ton of flavor. We got two large pizzas for 4 adults and a toddler it was more than enough food. We also shared two salads, the build your own and seasonable peach salad. The seasonal one was meh, the leaves were dry. Service was great and they have a ton of seating. We didn't have to wait at 6pm on a Friday. Bowling was so fun! This style bowling is not your typical bowling alley. It's tiny balls, which is nice cause your arm doesn't get tired. My wife and I chose this as our venue for our wedding reception and we both have absolutely zero regrets! Everyone involved from the event manager, to the bartenders, to the event staff were extremely communicative, accommodating, and overall lovely to work with. We chose an assortment of small bites for the cocktail hour and had salad and a variety of flatbread pizzas for our mains. We brought in cakes from a local bakery as the main dessert but Sacco's also provided apple cider donuts for that nice fall in New England touch. Prior to the night my wife and I decided on the open bar tab and they were very communicative on when we approached that limit and what steps we wanted to take afterwards. The space was very comfortable for our ~85 guests and once the tables were cleared for dancing, even more so (people were distributed between dance floor, bowling lanes, and the bar that goes deep into the venue). I highly encourage everyone to consider Sacco's for big events. Again their staff is amazing and the food and the vibes are unparalleled. It was truly one of the best nights of our lives and we will be back for many many more nights of bowling and pizza! However if you're just looking for a night of fun and bowling, I'd definitely recommend booking a reservation at least two weeks in advance especially if you want to come on Fridays or a weekend. The cocktails are amazing, reasonably priced, and the bartenders have great banter. There's always a seasonal cocktail selection that is amazing (there's a lot of cider and maple related drinks at this time). I was raised in NYC (team Brooklyn water pizza) and can safely say that this place has very good flatbread pizza. Perhaps considered a secret menu item since it's no longer on the menu, I think the best pizza is called the Community pizza (red sauce, cheese, caramelized onions, and mushrooms) thank me later. This place is an amazing little gem in Davis Square (easily accessible from the Red Line, less than 5min walk away from the Davis T stop) and I believe every Tuesday they do a community bake for a local nonprofit (some proceeds from that nights pizza sales go to the nonprofit). Came here with about 12 people on Friday night. We made a reservation for 6:00. We had two lanes and we waited for about 10 min before they had to kick off the people in front of us. We got 10 extra mins at the end so that was fine. Unique looking place. Like a wood fired pizza joint connected to a small bowling alley. Reservations would be recommended for bowling btw. Our server was great! Attentive to us at the lane. We got lots of drinks and pizzas. They had a delicious kombucha and a cool mushroom cola for NA options. This place is awesome. I came here for a work gathering of about 30 people. They had a great setup, giving us 4 lanes and a long row of tables. There was a full bar area around the corner. The pizza was fresh and delicious, thin and crispy style. We ordered a bunch of different flavors, one with baked potato, one with Mexican Street corn, one was a Cuban style (ham, Pickles, pulled pork, mustard), and more, they were all amazing! Went in not knowing what to expect and found that I not only really enjoyed my time there but also the atmosphere and the food. I did not bowl but my friends did. It wasn't a long wait to bowl on a Friday night. The bowling method was very manual - paper score card and a manual reset button. There were about 7 to 9 of us. When some were bowling we were very cozy with some staying behind the bowlers and just chatting The staff was very friendly and pretty efficient at bring our order at soon after we placed it. After reading all of the reviews, I was prepared for the worst, but thankfully the worst never happened. We had our end of summer company party here. We were about 15 people. The staff was friendly enough and accommodating. The only issue we had was it seemed our server was a bit overwhelmed and it was hard to get ahold of her. A few of us also waited quite awhile for drinks, but we were a large party and not the only ones there. It was pretty dead when we got there at 3:30, but by the time I left at 6, things were in full swing. I was happy to see lots of little ones, they're very kid friendly. The little balls make it easy for little ones to participate and there's a changing table in the women's bathroom. Also happy to say that despite reports of a lack of diversity, there were lots of people of different backgrounds and races, plenty of students. Candle pin bowling is a lot of fun! I wish they included rules on the score sheet or posted them up somewhere as they rules are different from conventional bowling. Pizza was DELICIOUS. Crispy, cheesy goodness. Ingredients tasted like quality stuff. Well seasoned and just enough garlicky herby flavor. Dough was spot on. I said pizza, because it's pizza not flatbread. I came to Sacco's on a Saturday night with a group. It was a cool spot to play some casual bowling. I've only played traditional bowling before so this was interesting. I found it a bit annoying to have to keep score by hand, especially because it was sometimes tough to determine how many pins I hit. This seems like more of a spot for new bowlers and local Tufts students, not serious bowlers. The vibe of the place was great, with the attached pizza restaurant and bar. Came here recently to host a birthday party. I did not expect three birthday parties on the same day so I understood why the staff were overwhelmed. I made the rsvp way in advance (three months). A few days before the party, I called to ensure that my reservations were ok for bowling lanes and dining tables. Staff said everything will be ready when I come. On the day of the party, the staff was not able to see my rsvp (dining). The bowling lanes were available but no tables. Luckily a group left early. I had to help staff re arranged the tables so the kids were able to enjoy lunch after bowling. So happy that the pizza options are plentiful and continue to be amazing! I love it here! The flatbread is so delicious and you can be served at your lane. Your drinks, shoes, lane rental and pizza are all paid for at the end. Parking was difficult when we went because there was a show at the Roadrunner music venue so keep that in mind. There is also no electronic or automatic keeping of scores so you have to do some good old fashioned addition on a dry erase scorecard. Overall a cute spot. read more

We were looking for something to do on a cool Monday afternoon on our last day of touring Boston. Nothing like candlepin bowling for a quintessential New England sport to top off a long weekend visit. Just ten lanes but we were able to grab a lane - popular with families now that school is out. This is a great place - real old school - no auto scoring (thankfully our scores were so low we didn't have to really figure out the details of scoring). Good selection of beers available and a friendly staff. During weekdays the pricing is $5/game per person plus shoes. A good deal when you just have a couple of people. My boyfriend and I came here on a weekday night to try out candlepin bowling. I grew up playing bowling quite a bit, but never did candlepin bowling until I came here. We had a really great experience between both the bowling and the food! We ordered a beer, a cocktail, a pepperoni mushroom pizza, and a dessert (a pie with peppermint filling and ice cream). The pizza was really delicious! My boyfriend really liked the flavors and I liked the texture of the pizza. Dessert was a bit too sweet for both of us but we should have expected that from what was in the dessert. The two of us got our own lane and played for 2 hours at $30 / hour (plus some for renting shoes). Unlike most other bowling places I've been to, you can keep score yourself and you manually reset the pins by pushing a button. This was great because we initially just wanted to practice instead of strictly taking turns and keeping score. We did get a score sheet and start scoring near the end of our session. The only downside is that the fallen pins don't get cleared, so your subsequent turns can be affected unexpectedly by the already fallen pins -- sometimes more pins fall than they should and other times pins that would have fallen don't because there's a fallen pin in the way. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be part of candlepin bowling (but in regular bowling the fallen pins should be cleared). If you want you can also get bumpers but we opted not to have bumpers up. Parking wasn't difficult on the weekday nights we came (Tuesday and Wednesday) and it was free at the time we came (around 9pm). But it would probably be much more difficult on more popular days and times such as Friday and the weekend. Service is really good and the staff is super friendly. They come by from time to time to check in on whether you want more food or drinks and to clean up your lane table. My boyfriend and I decided to come a second night in a row because of how much we enjoyed the experience, and we'll probably be back more times next year with more friends! read more

Great environment has the vibe of a 1970s roller disco with delicious pizza, paper with crayons for drawing, a bar that is pretty hit or miss -- the spiked hot cider is delicious, and the bowling is can't miss. Maybe the best experience I've had in Boston. This place amazing. We popped by at first on MLK Day and had some flat bread - 1/2 Herb & Cheese + 1/2 Carne, the latter being a Reuben in flavor. Delicious. Cut like a football so you get lots of slices (quasi-rectangle) it has just enough structure in the crust to keep you clean. Or, roll the slice for added bite-action. We even started with an impossibly good salad for winter in the NorthEast - which still leaves me scratching my head as to where these fresh veggies are coming from. Taps weren't working, but canned selections still didn't disappoint. It was too busy to bowl at that pint being happy hour on a holiday, so we took an oath to return. 2 days later, it's not 4 degrees anymore, and the lanes are clear. We bowl, but not with the ruckus thunder-alley crash (which I do love) of normal tenpin rolling, but rather a gentler game. Many less lanes, horizontally symmetric pins, lanes that don't clear "wood" between rolls, and throw-back machine that doesn't reset itself make it a special atmosphere. And the game play is FUN!!! It's very tough to knock down pins but you get 3 rolls, and the ball doesn't wear out your body, it's an awesome new challenge to the newb. A bunch of Harvard kids and their 'coach' happened in for some practice while we were there. A fun bunch of brains. A nice older couple to our other side made pleasant chit-chat as we realized that nobody in the world is any good at this game - so therefore everybody is kinda okay at it. Beer selection: taps were back and everything was groovy. So many excellent NEIPAs! The girls taking care of the shoe rental, beer bringing, and food order were all nice and polite. And the pizza again! Such wood-fired bliss. This time we had veggie with potatoes on one side, and a marvelous homemade sausage featuring maple and fennel (and mushrooms) on the other side. Eyes rolling back in my head with each bite as the sounds of their light, quiet blues on the speaker and gentle crashing of candlepins almost puts me to sleep. It is a heavenly feeling for sure - maybe what I will miss most about Boston, and my biggest reason to return ASAP. read more

Wow! How did I not know this place existed until now? And how did I not know what the hell candle pin bowling was until now either. If your objective in bowling is to launch the ball down the lane as hard as possible while forgoing any sort of technique at all, then this is perfect for you. From the moment you take hold of the ball decision time presents itself as you must choose whether to roll it or shotput the thing down the lane. I say shot-put, because with a bowling ball that small, why wouldn't you? Best of all you can do all of this while getting drunk. They serve up a wide variety of beers from local breweries (gives you a chance to try something new). The establishment is retro, the brick ovens are awesome, the lights are made to look like pool balls and candle pins (nice touch) and if I didn't know any better I would guess the entire place is run by hipsters from Portland, Oregon (many vegan and gluten free options. Overall though the flatbread pizza is probably some of the best I have had in the Boston area. It would be a great place to bring a first date, because if you forget her name, her name would be written on the score card. And oh yeah, you keep your own score (no electronic machines here to do it for you so brush up on those addition skills or bring a calculator if you are really that pathetic) Will definitely be coming back here. read more

This is probably one of the best pizza places in Boston! I highly recommend coming to this pizza place for a good dinner while you're waiting in line for candlepin bowling! I've seen this restaurant's website and I realized that I've been to the Paia, Maui location as well as the Whistler location back out west. So I've been wanting to try this Somerville location since I've been out here in Boston. This restaurant is located less than 5 minutes from the Davis Square T station from the red line. While you are on your way to the restaurant, make sure you put your name down on the waiting list via the yelp app, especially if you're coming on a weekend evening like we did (Friday night). The restaurant was pretty busy around 7:30 PM. Luckily we didn't wait long since we added ourselves to the waitlist. We ordered two vegetarian pizzas - full cheese & herb and half punctuated equilibrium and a half Jay's Heart. What's awesome about this place is that they allow you to do half and half pizzas so if you're wanting to try two different pizzas, you can do half and half at no extra charge! The only downfall about this place is that the pizzas take a long time to cook. We were probably waiting 30-40 minutes for our pizzas to come out BUT it was worth it! Each pizza was cut perfectly where it's easy to share amongst a group. My boyfriend and I had a really enjoyable time here, as did the family in the lane next to ours! The only downside is that it's a little pricey to bowl. We arrived around 4:15, when the bowling area was just starting to get crowded (there's a restaurant attached with more seating). We rented the last open lane for $30. The setup is nice and private, with a bowling lane for your party to use as you'd like and a table attached to sit and talk. A server came by almost immediately. The drinks were pretty reasonably priced for Cambridge, with drafts starting at $6.50 and cans at $5, and my lamplighter IPA was surprisingly good. The real highlight was the bowling! The pins are really, really easy to knock over due to their candle shape. I have terrible hand-eye coordination, but managed to hit a strike in spite of myself. Got a salad, large pepperoni mushroom pizza, and it was huuugeee, and the brownie sundae dessert--have never been more stuffed in my life. I basically became one of the bowling balls. Waitstaff was really helpful in guiding us with what to order and informing us about the menu, and did a great job with following up with us to see how we were doing. I've been to Sacco's before and have always had a great time - hence why I chose this location to be the host of my quarterly "team fun" event. I am a Senior Regional Director that oversees 70+ people and felt that Sacco's could be a trusted partner in helping me deliver a stress-free good time for my Boston employees who deserved an evening of fun and team bonding - but boy was I wrong. Almost immediately upon arriving, I was unable to relax like I wanted to as our waitress single-handedly ruined our experience and caused us to leave early. Between rudely interrupting me 4 times (no exaggeration) to ask for my ID before I was even able to finish speaking the name of the beer (and let's get real...while I may look younger than my almost 40 years, I am a boss at a work event, not a teenager trying to cheat her); to giving us warnings to wrap up every 5 minutes starting only halfway through our reservation time (nothing says fun competition than having a stifling, nasty waitress barking the time at you for 30 minutes straight); to being asked to leave our lane early for no reason whatsoever, this woman was just about the worst, most off-putting waitress I have ever encountered in my life and is the reason why I will never return or recommend Sacco's to anybody I know. Prior to becoming a boss in tech, I worked in the restaurant industry for 10+ years. I know how it works and I know when a place is NOT busy and doesn't need to rush customers out the door. In fact, I know how to make them feel welcome so that they stay and order more. I also know what people under 21 look like and as a seasoned bartender, I certainly know when people have had too much to drink or are acting out of hand. None of which was true this evening at Sacco's where half the restaurant was empty, no one was waiting for lanes, and half my team ordered lemonades and the other half only 1 beer each. The only reason I didn't give my review one star is because the pizza was really good and the beer selection is top notch. Too bad the rude service completely discounts all of that. There are only about 12 lanes and apparently at regular meal times it is almost impossible to get a lane. Not surprised. Flatbread pizza, if you haven't tried it, is well worth a visit on its own. During my visit we bowled a few hours and had one of their pepperoni and mushroom pizzas. The pizza was perfect, the service excellent, and the bowling fun. She spent another 5 minutes to look for someone to help her and came back to tell us that she mistakenly assigned us a lane that did not work. The place was NOT busy when we were there but many employees just minded their business, busy texting on their phone rather than helping customers. Our server was often no where to be found. This was my first time candlepin bowling and Sacco's did not disappoint. The place is fairly small so if you come during prime time expect to wait for a lane, but we got there a little early and were able to play right away. They have food/drink service at the lanes so you can snack and bowl which was much appreciated. There's also a side bar and restaurant if you want to hang out and wait for a lane. The scoring was a little confusing, but they provided rules and examples so it's pretty easy to get the hang of. They charge by the hour so you can play as much or as little as you want - the flexibility was great. The only part of the experience I wasn't prepared for was how close together the lanes are. When actually bowling you don't notice, but while waiting your turn on the bench if you're next to a big party (we were) it can get a little cramped...especially once food and drink come into the mix. If you come expecting to make some new acquaintances then you'll be fine! But overall I honestly have no complaints and I would gladly come back again! read more
