On 5/06/25, multiple conversations with Frontier's representative, Jonathan Alsina, who assured us that "they are not brokers, they are owner operators of their own trucks and their employees and trucks wear their name." My husband walked room-to-room while not he phone with Jonathan and told him every piece of furniture we owned, and Nathan bid $6,694.37. My husband even called back and told Jonathan that he forgot to tell him about the 4-drawer lateral file cabinet in the garage and the porch and deck furniture. Jonathan said that wouldn't change the price. We continued to talk to other movers and were discussing our options while we were getting texts from Jonathan. I replied to one of those texts explaining that we moved ourselves out there and filled a 26 ft Uhaul to the brim, so we were concerned that we we might not fit into a 26 ft truck now, even though we were selling and donating a lot of stuff. Jonathan reassured me that "if they had to, they'd send two 26 ft trucks to get all of our stuff." They said our belongings would be at our home in AZ within 7-10 days. My husband is 69 years old, so we liked the idea of someone else driving all of that and dealing with getting around in towns and cities with a big truck. And I'd already been told a price close to that with another moving company, (United) so we didn't think the price was too good to be true. So, we hired Frontier to move us from Menominee, MI to southern Arizona on 5/28/25. We received a written contract. We gave them a credit card deposit of $3,030.00. We thought all was set. THEN, despite our written agreement, on 5/24/25, my husband received a call from Frontier's "Quality Assurance" department. They said they needed to charge us $9,900+ because we failed to tell them all that we owned. My husband was very upset and asked for our deposit back. The man said it was non-refundable. He started listing items that Jonathan had failed to include in the contract. I asked how he knew about those items and he said he had looked at our home on Zillow. It was a 5 bedroom house, but we were in the process of selling and donating many items because we downsized to a 2-bedroom townhouse. We explained that and told him what items were not going, and he lowered the price to $8,489.90, and in an effort to avoid just giving them $3,030 we agreed and quite reluctantly gave them an additional credit card deposit of $1,006. We got a "Binding Contract" at that point, with the letterhead saying MASTER MOVING, INC. THEN, on 5/24/25, I received a call telling me that "they had a truck in the area, could they come 2 days early?" I told them we couldn't do that, but we could do one day earlier. SO, on 5/27/25, a 26 ft with the sign "AMERICAN HILLS MOVING AND STORAGE INC" (also a California operation) taped on the door and 5 men showed up to load our belongings and take them to Chicago, IL to be put on a semi. They took time to carefully wrap our belongings with blankets, plastic, tape, boxes, etc. and they loaded almost all of it. Our mattress was lying in the yard, my jewelry box was leaking my jewelry everywhere and lying in the yard, a recliner was still in the house, etc. Maybe 7 items were not not he truck yet, WHEN the driver of that truck came in with another contract printed out that said the price was $19,200 and told us that it was because we were using 3600 cubic ft on the truck, we both were stunned and felt sick. My husband, a retired math teacher, went out and measured the truck and told them, your truck can only hold 1600 cu ft of goods. NOW, this new contract said they would deliver it within 21 days. I cold overhear this from another room. So, I called another moving company (Coastal) who had continued to contact me and told them what was happening. They said, tell them to unload that truck and they would have a truck there that day tome us for the $6,694.37. I also called my sister who owns and operates a semi. She told me the same thing and asked for the contact info of the person who we were dealing with -- who told her "I saw how big that house is" and hung up on her. (Apparently our price was based on his perceived value of our house.). We told them to unload the truck and called 911 when the driver said the cancellation fee was $3500, closed the roll-down door on the back of the truck and the headed for the cab. the sheriff said it was a civil matter and that we had to either pay $3500 for them to stop holding our belongings hostage or pay $19,200 to have them move them. We had no trust in them at this point. they required this payment in cash, Zelle, or USPS money order. We very, very reluctantly paid via Zelle because they had possession of almost everything we owned. Zelle showed that the money went to USA LOGISTICS, INC. and the phone number was area code 818 (California). The frustrated men quite roughly unloaded our belongings into our garage, chipping and damaging many items, and they removed all the pac read more
