Nick Bar, solar tech extraordinaire, came to our place to assess a series of messages from Tesla (itself unresponsive) saying we weren't connected. For at least two months, our kilowatts per day weren't feeding back into the system. Bummer, right? I shopped around, and when I found out about Nick, I knew I'd be in good hands. Nick came, talked to us, checked out the system and advised us that it looks like we are connected. It's the Tesla mobile app that likely needs updating and we're in the clear. He gave us a ton of information, didn't try to sell us anything, and did this all for free. I know whom I'm going to call next time I have a solar glitch, or want to upgrade my system. They finished 3 bathroom remodels (down to the studs), and we brought them back to add windows to our very dark living room. After 30 years, our roof needed replacing. We also wanted to incorporate solar panels. We requested three bids and chose American Home Improvement (AHI) because they could handle both the roof replacement and the solar installation. Their Project Manager, Eli, clearly outlined the schedule and answered all our questions. A solar consultant from AHI reviewed our electric bill and recommended 13 panels. We also had new gutters installed. While AHI completed all the work in just 8 days, the overall project took about three weeks due to delays with city inspections for the different phases of the roofing and solar work. We hired this amazing team as a general contractor to do a major remodel of our 2 story 60 year old house. Updating my review in response to Josh's comments: In my opinion, American Home Improvement appears best suited for smaller projects focusing on installations, such as kitchen, bath, some artificial turf, railing. Looking back on their reviews for this Yelp page, the reviews were for handyman work. Anyway, they struggled with my larger-scale project, lacking the patience and professionalism required. My project involves demolition, exterior refacing, and an addition. Before and after American Home Improvement, eight different contractors didn't request to review architectural plans with us inside our house. We aren't architects, so why would it benefit an estimator to discuss these plans with us? Others preferred taking measurements, surveying the site (outside), and then reviewing the plans after they left to do their calculations. This approach is standard for exterior remodels and additions. Insisting on an hour-long indoor meeting without looking at the outside for an initial meeting felt like a sales tactic to get all parties to sign on the dotted line (that's why my husband had to be present right?). Contrary to their explanation, David initially agreed to discuss the project outside, albeit reluctantly. What triggered his anger was my husband's absence during the initial meeting. David abruptly declared he was passing on the project due to this and stormed away angrily. This situation seemed either sexist or indicative of their inability to handle the project. It's all on video; I wish I could share it. I was left standing there in shock at what had just happened, as David and I were not in argument. Ladies, be prepared to have your husband present if dealing with this company. Otherwise, they may refuse to communicate with you and exhibit a temper. I also just realized they are the same company that canceled an April appointment when my husband happened to be available with no consideration for our time. AHI - you can't really have it both ways. His team stripped the old wood out and had the new wood up and painted in a week. Next, our backyard had a pre-existing deck that was badly bowing from the rains and shoddy engineering. Down to earth, reasonable, & every step was handled with care. Isaac was very communicative and honest and I trusted his opinion and never felt he was trying to upsell me; he genuinely helped make the best plan for the work. The new walkway looks so much better than the previous concrete and the conversion of the door to window is amazing. You can't even tell that it wasn't always like that. I'm giving a five star to Allen who I should say is our project manager for our bathroom renovation. He's available almost everyday throughout the renovation to come and see the progress no matter how busy he is. He even went out of his way on a Sunday (coming from the valley to South Bay) to helped us choose the tiles and gave us his honest opinions to match the shower and outside floor tiles. He told us where to go and select the vanity, mirror and toilet in a warehouse showroom. The delivery was all taken care of. The demolition workers did it in one day. Everything was on schedule. All the work to be completed are all detailed in the contract. The quality of work I can't complain (shout out to Juan Sr., Juan Jr. , Oliver and Javier). They are all professional and the work detail is very impressive. We're very proud of our newly renovated bathroom. We feel like we're in a 5 star hotel bathroom. I will be honest about the price of the total renovation is pretty high especially there was additional fees that was unexpectedly added but the quality of work and stress free is worth it. I have been looking and talking with many home remodeling contractors for my kitchen for a while. I finally chose AHI because of 2 people they sent to talk to me, Yaya (senior manager) and Shai (project manager). They presented me with creative ideas like adding the breakfast nook aka countertop at the side window for my husband's office. We delayed the project for about 3 months after signing the contract from pandemic was going around quickly. We started on June 1st and finished by the end of July 2020. I was pleased with the works they did and their willingness to resized some cabinets bigger, regrouted some tiles that cracked from earthquake and repainted, patched many spots that not patched quite well. After spending a year working with our kitchen designer, cabinet maker and countertop supplier we asked American Home Improvement to help us implement our kitchen renovation design. AHI did; 1. Demolition and removal of the old flooring, cabinets, appliances. 2. Rough framing, plumbing and electrical which included new subpanel for handling the new appliances. 3. Installation preparation - including patch, repair, skim coat and prime coat the walls and ceilings. They also laid new flooring underlayment and installed a new double hung window. 4. Installation - AHI laid new luxury vinyl flooring and baseboards, installed new venthood, D/W, microwave, convection oven, pantry/laundry louvered doors and under cabinet lighting. (Cabinets, countertops, induction cooktop, workstation sink, refrigerator where all installed by the suppliers). 5. Finish work - AHI assigned one of their best tradesmen to work directly with me on making sure all of the little details were taken care of, much appreciated; including final wall prep and final coats of paint to walls, trim and doors. We love our final product AHI did a good job accommodating several of our unforeseen schedule challenges to keep the project on track. Shawn and his delightful staff at AHI took care of everything, and he makes you laugh, like a familiar relative stopping by, full of promises to take care of things - yet somehow he does! I'm overwhelmed by how much effort goes into renovating a bathroom? It seems so daunting, how can it be done? The permits and inspections alone will drive you nuts! Yet somehow he does it and his assistant, John, was always there for the inspections! And the results are gorgeous, exactly what we were going for. And there are always difficulties along the way, with these old houses. We had to replace our electrical panel - he took care of it. I wanted an earthquake retrofit - he took care of it. I wanted to ride on SpaceX - he said, I'll get back to you - I think they're defunct. We were very happy to get Shawn's discounts at Ferguson, which is nice! Erwin @Ferguson is a delight! His tile guy, Edwin, well, you'll want to invite him to dinner. The expertise that went into making this place habitable again was remarkable. The electrical was so bad the rats were using it to make their nest. The galvanized pipe so corroded it was like using the pump on the old farm in Norway. Now, everything flows, things don't short circuit when my wife uses her hairdryer - unless she throws it on a bad hair day... Of course, renovating is tiring, having workers trudging through your house every morning - but thank God they do, workers are hard to come by these days. It's also fun watching their daily progress while sipping ice tea on the patio. Shawn gets it done, and his people are masterful. You can probably tell I'm pretty impressed with this guy - did I mention he gave me his daughters Iwatch? He brings baklava, which makes my wife very happy. Who does that? We've done a few major projects around LA now and our experience with David and AHI has been the best by far. David and his team helped with a full two story wall repair of damage from gigantic bamboo that grew under our siding and a full outdoor remodel that involved work/coordination on both sides of our neighbors property lines (lots are tight in Venice). He also helped manage a Venice front facade fence/gate build that we are very happy with. David was able to efficiently navigate all set backs along the way. We recently finished a master bathroom remodel project with American Home Improvement (AHI). Overall, we had a positive experience working with them, which is summarized in more detail below: PROS: After our original project manager became non-responsive, David and Selvin helped step in to communicate with us and coordinate various moving parts of our project. David was especially responsive by promptly communicating by text or phone if we had any questions. AHI's team expertly removed the old material in the original bathroom, including a second door, and installed a new window, ceiling lights, floor and shower tiles, shower system, and other bathroom fixtures and fittings. AHI also performed additional projects that we requested during the bathroom remodel, such as contacting an HVAC company to install new ductwork for a new ceiling fan. David also offered to replace the original ceiling fans they had installed with new ones we had purchased at no additional cost. AHI also installed a pull down attic ladder, and removed a window and performed demolition work in our master bedroom closet. CONS: Our original project manager, Raffy, had offered to help us design the bathroom at the beginning stage of the remodel. However, as time progressed, he did not provide any guidance or suggestions on a color palette or decor for the bathroom. We were left to research and buy materials ourselves, and were frustrated that Raffy's few suggestions were not applicable to our project. Despite the early miscommunication and differences in expectations, we are overall satisfied with the work AHI produced in remodeling our master bathroom. A good friend of ours referred us to AHI for solar panels. We spoke with Nick Bar to discuss our options and finally decided to move forward with the solar project back in Jan. 2023. We were quoted with another estimate from a well-known solar company, but decided to go with Nick because he really sold us on all his lies. Knowing the NEM 2.0 was going to end in April/2023, I sent in all the requested documents right away to Nick. I should've known Nick was unreliable and unable to handle the job because I had to constantly follow up with him and his assistant Leor (who had no clue what was going on). Being told by Nick in Jan/2023 that everything that he needed on his end has been received was the first of his lies. Come June, he tells us he "lost" our application, but was sure that he had given everything to the person who processes solar application with Edison and then switches his story trying to say the delay was our HOA. He even had the audacity to tell us that this rarely happens, but could happen! The lies the company spews on you is disgusting! How can anyone trust a company that "lost" a customer's application, strings the customer along, and tries to shove down a joke of a proposal for what clearly is the company's mistake?! read more

We had a small third floor condo kitchen remodeled. AHI was one of three contractors that pitched to us. While AHI didn't offer the cheapest bid, they were the most thorough. They justified their price because they offered semi-custom kitchen cabinets (which for a small space was critical) and excellent personnel. They were the only contractor to have an organized old school folder to offer us for their presentation. (Being old school people this was appreciated.) Everyone who worked on this project: the cabinet designer and installer, the electrical and wall workers, and the backsplash tile guy were professional, on time, respectful of our Condo rules, and did excellent work. Hard to believe but no headaches. They completed the work in the estimated time. My wife and I are very happy with our new kitchen. We can easily recommend them. read more
