I rented a TLC vehicle from American Lease and had one of the worst customer service experiences of my career as a professional driver. The car was disabled remotely without warning, and I was denied access to make my regular weekly payment unless I first paid a towing fee for a tow that never happened. This is a predatory tactic. Communication was unprofessional and threatening. When I tried to resolve the issue calmly, they responded with intimidation and refused to offer a fair resolution. I have proof of payments made manually through their app, where entering the CVV was always required -- meaning they have no authorization to charge me beyond what I agreed to. I'm reporting this business to the TLC and other consumer protection agencies. I strongly advise other drivers to be cautious before doing business with them. I have received several solicitations from them with tempting deals, and every time I've responded and given them my information, (downloading both my licenses, etc), they tell me that they will get back to me when something comes available. HAS NEVER HAPPENED IN 2 YEARS!! On one occasion when I was able to actually get them on phone, they strongly recommended showing up @ 7:00 AM for the 9:00 AM opening. This company is a disaster. I found AML while looking for a place to rent a TLC plated car closer to my home in BK. The initial car I rented was from the office on S. Conduit Blvd. Those 2 people were and have continued to be extremely nice during all of the interactions I've had with them at that location. During the first rental, I had to go to the main office for maintenance and ended up having to leave the car for repair early in the a.m. The service manager Roni told me that it would be ready no later than 1pm so come back then, but if I didn't come back at 1pm, someone would call me to let me know that the car was ready anyway. Since I know how troublesome car maintenance can be, I called at 1pm and the lady said it was not ready and to come at 3pm. I did them one better, I came at 4. When I asked a guy in the parking lot about my car he called Roni and Roni started getting upset in Spanish (he wouldn't say it in English to my face, they never do) b/c they were short staffed. Then Roni came over and told me that they were swamped and that my car was not ready. I said ok, and asked if I should come back tomorrow (it was no biggie b/c I planned for it). He said I should stay there b/c it would be out soon. Long story short, I've had this type of experience 3 other times w/ American Auto Lease even though, each time, Ive tried to do what I can in order to make their job easier. I requested to switch it with another one, they refused. according to contract agreement, minimum rental period is 2 weeks, to switch a car, i have to return the one that is on my name, to return it, i either have to wait 2 weeks, or pay 2 weeks rental fee of 900 $ and take a replacement paying 450 $ deposit. For Uber drivers who just got their TLC license, I strongly suggest you try another option. These folks leave you in the lurch and will outright lie, or say anything to make you believe they will work with you. I put a deposit on a car (only accept cash) and was told it would be ready in two days provided insurance was approved. Was asked to wait for their call. I waited, called the next day to find out my insurance was approved, and although they said someone tried to call, they didn't. (I have an iPhone, I would know if they called.) Then, after calling at 9:30 while working my NJ uber in Jersey City, they asked if I could be at their office before 11:30. I parked my car, got on a train, only to find the car wasn't even at the lot. Waited hours for the car to arrive, only to see it was filthy and smelled as if someone died in it. The carhop tells me in broken English that the car was in storage, not so bad, it's the leather. (There was no leather in this car). I hate liars. So that's three lies already: 1. We tried to call you 2. Your car is ready 3. It smells because of the leather. They take another deposit to give me a 2015 Toyota Camry, but then make me wait 3 more hours to install a camera. Be very careful if you're looking to Rent a vehicle from them using their eight week promotional offer. You don't pay anything upfront And the Vehicle cost is cheaper for the first 8 weeks. But just so you know, they will hit u with a huge fee when you try and return the car. They tell you it's because when taking the car u didn't pay anything up front. But not once do they inform you about this fee in the beginning when you sign up and it's not listed on the contract you sign either. I've also texted them on numerous occasions through their app asking about what my balance would be when I brought the car back and their response was "Hello, we are unable to see if you will have a balance or credit until your account is deactivated" which I find hard to believe. Their Customer service is horrible especially over their text format but they suggest that's how we should contact them. I rented from their LIC location 3 times already. I ran into problems every time. The only reason I went back was they are an Uber partner. They had me approved for insurance already and they were a little cheaper than other Uber partners I checked with(tower, Bugsy) Before you rent from them beware. 1) They would lie to you. One time they gave me a car around 4 in the afternnon. I told them I will take the paperwork to Uber first and come back in the morning to get the car but they said I could just uoload the paperwork to Uber. I took the car and uploaded the paperwork to Uber but Uber app said I have to wait for the paperwork to be reviewed. Next morning it was still being reviewed so I went to Uber and found out if I upload paperwork it takes 2 to 3 days to be reviewed. So I had to pay for an extra day to drive while I paid for the rental. Another time they told me to take the car for a TLC inspection which only takes 20 minutes. It took around 4 hours plus the time I had to go there and they didn't even do the inspection because the registration sticker was expired on the car. Third time they had a car for me so I took the paperwork first to Lyft and found out the car was affiliated with a Livery Base and cannot be used for Uber and Lyft ( you need to be affiliated with Black Car or a Luxury Base for ridesharing) Wasted half a day and no car. 2) They don't service or clean cars before they rent them to you and good luck if the car breaks down. Their 2 Towing service providers are never available and you could be stranded in the middle of nowhere. Good luck trying to contact the office. They don't even pickup the phone during business hours and you don't have any other way of reaching them if you run into a problem. 3) they tell you you can return the car after 1 week but if you go to return and the lot is full you won't be able to return and have to keep paying until they have room to take it back. If you rent a car from American Lease in Queens. You have to return it to the Bronx location !!! They charge you the cash toll rates instead of ez pass rate. The quoted rental price does not include the insurance!!! When you use their car. There's a safety lock device that you have to put a code in or the vehicle won't start. You do that in the beginning of the week. My code didn't work the second week because they texted the same vehicle code. Had to drive to their location because they will not answer the phone. Then wait to be seen. There's a sign in sheet. Took 3 hours out of my day. The vehicle inspection was almost up. They text me to go to the Ogden location to fix this issue. How about you fix your car before renting it to customers American lease. It takes a full day to get a car from them. Slow!!! I am claiming deceptive practices concerning their rental payment policy. I was told to come in on Monday, 8/23, to avoid paying full price for half a week, which is itself an exploitative practice. Their recurring payment day is on a Tuesday, 8/24, and I came in the previous day under the impression and having been expressly told that I would only have to pay for a week's use of their Camry 2016 from their Tuesday payment date to the next Tuesday. This came to $441.50 after a $2.00 charge just to make the payment (another exploitative practice). I then paid for the car for a second week which was another $441.50 and the agreement was for 2 weeks minimum. This is no problem. I then put in a return event on their app because I absolutely hate the work of for-hire-vehicles which is in no way their fault. This occurred a Tuesday before 8/7 and the car was paid for up until 8/7. When they finally surveyed the car and I finally get seen, I am told I owe two extra days worth $127.52! The manager starts explaining that they count the days individually from when you technically had the car up until you bring the car back. This was never made clear, nor was this expressly stated in their contract. I will not be pursuing the money because I do not want to have more trouble than $127.50 is worth. However I find they are not entitled to this extra money because their was no agreement in said contract to recognize individual days of rent until they just so happen to say so when I brought the car back. They also decide to translate what a "day" is in their own terms STAY AWAY FROM THIS RENTAL COMPANY. Deceptive practices are abundant here and they will look at you like you're crazy for being outraged that you are not told things in advance. No customer should ever have to dig so hard to get every possible angle of the agreement expressly stated. The company and its employees should make sure to expressly state everything exactly as is legally consistent with what they expect. But this is to be expected with a company that allows its employees to come in shabbily dressed with an unprofessional demeanor as if it is a summer camp for kids who believe they were dealt the bad hand of the universe. You get what you hire and your customers will receive care correlatively of said hire. So if said hired people are less than impressive, the customers receive less than impressive service. Service in this instance is expressing all terms exactly as need be stated for absolute surety that both parties are on exactly the same terms that cannot and should not be reinterpreted by any other office locations for exploitative practices. Had I been told that this company recognizes individual days for its renting times, I would have matched the exact days that I had kept the car and not the recurring payment days that covered me to use the car in the first place. First I received the car with terrible tires and when I took a turn the car was making noise as if the axle was bad so I drove the car to one of two places that American Lease suggested in their contract. the Mechanic there look at rhe the car and told me that everything w2as fine and only changed the oil. A few days later in the middle of a thunderstorm my left tire gave up the tire attendant told me all 4 tire need replacement so I purchased one and ended my shift for the night the next again I went back to the same mechanic in Long island city and explained my saga the day before the attendant told me we are sorry but no tires for your car! I daid I need to speak with a manager the Manager came and told me look ! your people told me do not give new tires to these guys when they come we buy used tires so if you run out of used tires simply tell them you don't have any. so I returned the car to the main office to be fixed and also I had a minor Hit and Run accident that only affected the car cosmetically but the main thing was the tires and the axle they called me 2 weeks later to pick uop the car which was not at the lot so I waited 1 hour to get the car when the car came in it was dirty and smelly and the gas was on empty since they have a Gas station there I filled up the tank and drove off 10 minutes later the axle of the car came off while on the 87 South so I towed the car back to the shop and told them to keep it and refund my money I am still waiting....They are the worst!!!!!!!1 read more
