Phil from American Marble and Granite is a very nice guy. Real easy-going and a matter of fact. He'll let you take home large samples to see how they look and is in no hurry for you to return them. Like I said....real easy-going. His prices are very fair and I'd be surprised if you find anyone cheaper. His turnaround time was about a week from the time I signed the contract. Those are all the good things. The reason I gave him only 3 stars is because there was no follow up. The seam between my quartz slabs is quite noticeable. I asked him if he could come out and re-do it. His first response was...its too late and he admitted that it was a little darker than he thought it would be. But moments later, he said he could probably scrap it out and re-do and would be happy to come by "next week" sometime. That was over a month ago. He did follow up about 2 weeks later and say he hasn't forgotten about me but again, that was about 3 weeks ago and I haven't heard from him since. The last thing that really bothered me was that he didn't clean up after himself. There was dust and small pieces of junk on the floor from the drywall when taking out the old countertops and he just sorta looked at me and said, "you'll just have to sweep that up." He didn't say it in a bad way....just in a matter of fact kind of way. It only took me 2 minutes to sweep my floor but I think it goes a long way when contractor takes pride in his work and cleans up after himself. All that said, he's a likable guy who is very easy-going with good prices. So if you're not really particular, he's probably your guy. But if you're looking for perfection, you might want to pay a bit more and go with someone else. I would use him again for a bathroom counter or laundry room or something small. Regarding a large kitchen, I'm not sure I would use him again....perhaps I would. Not enough to give him 5 stars. Just my opinion. read more

I have used American Marble and Granite twice. Several years ago when redoing my kitchen. We knew we wanted granite, but my husband wanted granite up the walls as well. Since I could not settle on tile for the wall I gave in. It is the most beautiful kitchen ever! I get nothing but compliments from my house guests. Just recently when I needed a bathroom counter top I went back to American Marble and again Phil took good care of me. I can't recommend them enough. I am so very pleased with the job they do. The work is great, pricing was very affordable, and they get the job done in a timely manner! I recommend them everytime someone asks if I know a counter top guy. I was very unsure about this place to begin with the owner made it seem like he was to busy to give me his time but I was in a time crunch and found the granite I liked that I could not find a remnant of anywhere else. They did not deliver on the time line they promised which was the one of only reasons I went through with them. And they broke a piece of the mirror above the granite which I didn't even ask them to fix I was just happy to have them out of my house. Should of went with my gut when I met the owner. read more

I had a small , 2ft x 3ft, piece of Carrera marble tabletop from an heirloom antique table that was dull and scratched and brought it to American and they buffed and polished it so that it looked like new. They finished it in less than a day. We get a lot of compliments on the table (Gilded Age in Joliet on Ruby St did a great job refinishing the wooden part of the table). read more
