From the time I filled in the online appointment form to the time they were at my house was less than two hours. They were always extremely courteous and professional. Travis was an exceptional expert, keeping me informed the entire way. Given a challenging situation, Keidon joined Travis and together they conquered the problem. As they went along my 20 year old pipes had more issues than originally thought. Travis and American Rooter & Drain kept to the rate quoted, even though it took more time and effort to complete the repairs. If I could give the company and staff more than five stars I would. There aren't enough characters to describe how bad I was ripped off and then ignored by American Rooter and Drain. The pushy up-selling of old plumbing is strong. Call for one thing and get another that is over priced and installed poorly. Spent $21k ($3,400 for toilet flange alone) only to get ignored repeatedly by management when I had issues under warranty. I was charged for extra items not used and overcharged for toilet replacement and more. I would not recommend this company to anyone for any reason. I wish I would have read the reviews on this company before using them!!! They use apprentices, at best. I paid over $16,000 for a new shower and water softener system. For weeks after their work, I was noticing little dents and scrapes, and other aesthetic issues on my porch, up my stairs, in my hallway and around my bathroom. There was one very deep gash in the wall next to the shower installation, very obvious about 7 inches long and a quarter of an inch deep. I had to call them back out to look at it. Really!! They filled it in then instructed me to paint the entire wall so that one area didn't stand out!!! A few weeks later I noticed another very large gash in the stairwell leading up to the bathroom. Mid November of 2025 I had a clogged kitchen drain. I called American Rooter and Drain and asked for an estimate. They said they would take a look and call me with an estimate before any work was done. THEY NEVER SAID THERE WAS ANY MINIMUM CHARGE. The technician arrived and snaked without my permission. He said that the snake was too short and said the problem was further down the line and that the roots were in the lines and it needed a $1200 treatment. I said no thank you. I had another plumber come out the next day and they gave me an estimate first, then did the work. They charged me $235.40 and fixed the problem. American Rooter and Drain turned me into collections for $59.00 because I refuse to pay for a fee which I did not authorize. If they had told me there was a minimum charge I would not have let them even come and take a look. read more

Not trustworthy for recommended repairs. We have tried them two times and both times been upsold with ridiculous rates. They appear kind on the surface but use scare tactics to make you think you need more than is necessary. Recently we were told we need a repair to the tune of $6200 for a half day repair (after VIP club discount) but could not get specifics on what percentage of the charges were parts or what the hourly labor rate was. Words like sewage mixing with our drinking water were thrown in. After thinking about it for a few hours we canceled the repair to get a second opinion. We were able to get the repair done for about 10% of the quote of this company! The so-called sewage was water from the condensate line of the HVAC system and gray water from the washer. And per our second option our plumbing is fine and we don't need the $23000 whole house re-plumbing American Rooter suggested. I strongly recommend against using this company! read more

Same day late to estimate work then came out next early morning to finish the job. .... Devin was great, a fisherman like me, gotta love it. The problem was solved. Prompt, great service. If you choose to use American Rooter for anything, I strongly recommend you get a second and even third opinion. Recently we had a clogged sink. They recommend jetting for $1324. When they got here and started to do the job, they try tried to charge us $1700. It wasn't until we pushed back and requested they get the person who gave us the original quote on the phone that they agreed to honor the lower price. After unclogging of the sink, they ran a camera down the line to just "double check everything". They said our main sewer line was "completely trench rotted" and that "the bottom of the pipe is pretty much gone" and he was "basically running my camera on dirt" additionally adding that that the pipe was broken and there were tree roots coming through. The technician told us the issue was urgent and needed to be fix immediately. That the sewer could back up into our home at anytime. And that our sewage was seeping into the ground and potentially into the water table. American Rooter's estimated cost to replace the sewer line under the house, about 15, maybe 20' would be $13,648. At this point we believed we had an issue, but the price seemed pretty outrageous. We got two additional opinions. The 2nd and 3rd licensed plumbers came out at different times and without knowledge of the other. Each of them independently said, they saw no problem with the pipe at all. They both agreed that it's an old and ugly pipe, but that they saw no evidence of a leak anywhere and there was nothing they saw that gave them the impression any work needed to be done. We showed the video to one of the plumbers who said it looked like the jetting wasn't done properly based on the amount of build up and debris in the line. When we told them they ran the jetting through the vent on the roof, he said that is a big shortcut. The toilet should have been pulled and the jetting done from there. After talking with the general manager of American Rooter, they were unwilling to own any part of what went on. While they did refunded our $1,324, the reason noted on the invoice was that the customer was not happy with the job. This is partially true, but I can't help but feel like a more accurate notation would have been, we did a half-assed job and got caught. Beware! American Rooter & Drain serving Caldwell Idaho are complete rip offs. They charge you for services they don't do. When you ask for the video or photos of the pipe scope to prove the blockage you supposedly have they refuse. They tell you there are serious clogs in order to charge huge fees for pressure wash. Then it was going to be replacing the whole line. Decided to call another plumber who was able to take care of what, according to America, was a major problem that same day, for a nominal fee. They wouldn't call back to explain why they gave me such a drastically different diagnosis and costly repair. Finally reported them to BBB and all they did was deny the truth and still refused to give any proof of the scope and what they charged and need for repair. Instead of being good decent business people they blacklisted me... Oh no! They are a horrible and dishonest company read more

Enough. I had these people come over to clear a blockage in our main drain. We were in a pinch because we could not use any of our water fixtures in the house without the backing up of sewage and they knew we needed it fixed asap. Right from the start was the up-selling... I mean they came on immediately with the crap and I despise this approach since I used to work for a local pos hvac company that forced its employees to do the same thing. Or the fudging of ignitor ranges and telling folks that their ignitors could fail at any time and should be replaced sooner than later when in reality, they were still well within range and would have continued working fine. After refusing the full home "sanitizing" of our drains, they cleared the blockage then told us that there is a crack and offset in the main drain as it goes under the foundation from settling of the home and that it needs to be repaired for 6 grand to stop any blockage from occurring again. He said he'd give it 2 months before it happens again (it's been over 2 months now... I waited to give my review until now). After reading the other reviews on this page, I found one from Amy G that I swear I could take word for word what she wrote as to what this company said and did to me... WORD FOR WORD! Unfortunately, I did not see these reviews until it was too late. Asking others in the similar field; we were overcharged for the work they did and the quote to "fix the crack". Also, it seems rather suspicious as well that we were referred to this company by another so called reputable plumbing company so said these guys would be "more cost effective". You get one chance only to make a good impression. Apparently, their approach is to take advantage of the desperate, take as much money from them as possible then search for other prey. read more

They took advantage of me. They charged me for a hydrojetting and camera inspection that was not necessary and never done then almost 5k for a sumpump replacement. I will definitely shop around next time. I did call and ask for a refund d for my 1500.00 hydrojetting and camera and Chris told me he was still going to do the camera inspection in the future. That was in June. Have not heard from them. At this point I just want my money back. I have talked to 3 other companies since and have been told since the clogged toilet and pump were only a few feet away it was not needed. read more

They aren't even plumbers, they are supposedly drain clearing experts but are they though? Hired them to clear a drain, they wanted to charge $1000. They didn't successfully clear the drain, tried to upsell me a full plumbing job for $6000, I said no, they left and still wanted the $1000 even though the clogged drain was never fixed. Hired a local guy and he fixed the drain in a couple hours for a fraction of the price. If they do this to you, stand strong, and only pay them for what they actually did, not what they promised to do. read more

DO NOT CALL THIS COMPANY!!! I had them out last week to repair a leak on the side of my house. They charged me nearly $300.00 and basically just replaced a gasket. I was not home to meet with the plumber - my wife was. I cannot say what this guy did for an hour on the side of my house, but he did not dig to try and find the leak. They did have my wife sign three times to agree that we were happy with the work and that they could charge my credit card. There is no work guarantee of any kind. The statement on the invoice is: "I find and agree that all work performed by American Rooter & Drain has been completed in a satisfactory and workmanlike manner. I have been given the opportunity to address concerns and/or discrepancies in the work provided, and I either have no such concerns or have found no discrepancies or they have been addressed to my satisfaction. My signature here signifies my full and final acceptance of all work performed by the contractor." This place is a rip-off outfit. Do yourself a favor and call someplace else. read more

First for the good part of this review. Our technician, Chris, was by far one of the best I have ever worked with. Polite, easy to understand, left the work space neat and tidy. Five stars and more for him. Now the bad part. EXTEREMLY EXPENSIVE! Almost akin to price gouging...and to a senior citizen at that! Well over 400.00 for a Glacier Bay faucet from Home Depot, plus an emergency shut off valve. A total of $762.00!!! Waited all day for a tech to be dispatched, it was after 5pm before the work was started. Kind of had us over a barrel by that time. Choice of fix leak immediately or wait to shop around, while still dealing with said leak. While I can recommend Chris, I can not recommend American Rooter and Drain. read more

I had them come out to clean out a slow moving sewer line with the blades, not the hydro jetting and camera. While talking to them, I noticed the McCrea Plumbing logo on their hats. The kid assured me they were no longer associated with them and the last person that worked for McCrea was leaving the same day. Bla, bla, bla. He finally got around to the price for the clean out, with the senior discount, was $745 to run the snake approximately 30' to the main sewer line. This was not an emergency repair. I refused and paid them the $59 just for showing up. If I had know in advance that they were in ANYWAY associated with McCrea, I NEVER would have had them come out. Called a few local people, other than McCrea's, and the highest price was $225 to do the same thing. Very, very deceptive! Call anybody besides these guys. read more

Being new to Caldwell, I received a card in the mail for $200 off a drain clean. Not knowing who was a good business, I made my judgement on the advertising and the fact they said they were Veterans. I asked for a ballpark price where a drain clean started, so I would have an idea of the cost. The office would not give me any idea. I made an appointment for them to come out to troubleshoot why my drains were slow. Nick and Jason came out and jetted all my drains. They were very nice and friendly individuals. I also had Nick look at my water softener because it appeared to not be working, which it wasn't. Nick convince me because I was needing a new water softener and I had just purchased a new refrigerator with water and ice, that I should also get a new hot water heater because it had all the contaminated hard water scale etc. inside that would just continue to contaminate the system. They charged jetting my drains, from the roof vents, $1,195. Then $1,350 for the main drain line (poor access), Sewer line camera inspection (good access) $165. I had a $200 coupon discount I received in the mail. To install the soft water system was $3,302.65, and lastly was installing a new hot water tank (my original still works) was $2,705.29. So they quickly did paperwork for financing. The total cost for all came to $8,517.94. I was told first I didn't have to pay anything that day and then I did have to pay for the jetting, which was $2,510. After sleeping on it I canceled the installation of the softener and water heater, which they were ready to do first thing in the morning. I felt like the jetting alone was an awful lot. I got several different bids and both were between $400 and $550. Both from reputable other plumbing businesses. The were shocked I was charged so much. They said they had the same equipment and provided the same service, and never did they ever have to charge over $1,000. The drain camera person, Chris came the following day. He was very nice, but he said after he was done he was going to show me the camera footage and go over it with me. I went inside the house and he never stopped by after he was done, he just left!! After about two weeks my kitchen drain started draining slow again. Nick came out and jetted it again and Chris followed up with the camera. He said my problem was a " belly" in the drain pipe and said he could fix it by replacing with new pipe and that was going to cost $3,485. But they gave me a discount for the jetting service of $1,515. So the total to replace a stick of pipe was going to cost $1,970! After getting second opinions, from other plumbing services that have been in service for over 20 years they all told me I was being ripped off. These prices are extreme and the biggest eye opener I found out...they don't have licensed plumbers. So the majority of the work they are doing is illegal, according to Idaho laws. The one star rating is to the company. Nick and Jason were very nice individuals. Chris, the cameraman, was very nice as well, but I was very disappointed when he said he would go over his findings and never did. It took at least two follow up calls to their office to get some pictures. I DO NOT recommend American Rooter & Drain, unless you have a lot of money to spend. Update: I found a plumbing company to deal with the original reason I called American Rooter, and guess what? I had them do the "$2200" fix (which was hydro jetting the line by the way)! This company charged me $250.00 to do the exact same thing and probably took them 20 minutes. This company rips people off by doing bait and switch marketing. The funny thing is, I told the plumber about that experience and I didn't say the name of the company, he immediately said, " Was it American Rooter & Drain?" Our tub was clogged so my first call was to American Rooter and Drain and Caleb Duke answered and gave me all the info I needed about our different options and he ended up also being the same guy to come fix the clogged drain. He did a great job and was very thorough, cleaned up after himself and was very easy to work with. NOT FOR HOMEOWNER PROJECTS DO NOT USE unless you are a contractor who knows how to deal with them. I asked to have 12' of extra plastic pipe run under 6' of the kitchen floor while they were under there, anyway, replumbing the water intake. In case I ever wanted to hook up to a frig later. The only price they could offer was for $1,200+, because the estimators are not allowed to go off their price sheet. (My handyman later did it for much less!!) They don't communicate with the others on the team. I needed a pressure check run (on the pipes not being replaced) before letting water into the system, and told every team that came out. They listened so politely that I thought that something was being communicated, that I was being heard and taken care of. Even put it in writing that they scanned into their records. NOPE. Now I am shutting off different parts of the system myself to test where the leak is. Gotta get someone in here to replumb it. Shortly after the job was done, while I was still asking to get a copy of the inspection report (they had never told me they were going to pull a permit in the first place) and kept sending messages to be able to discuss this with a manager, I received a letter from their attny threatening that if I didn't pay the (then $3000) balance, they would take me to court and get a judgement to take away my house. Really?? Finally did talk to the manager, contested the (way too large) bill, polite but no dice. Recently I was notified that this was to be sent to collections. I have better things to do with my life, so the day before the collections threat was due, I called the office, confirmed the $3,000 balance, and gave the young lady my credit card. Just got a notice from Collections Agent that I now owe $3,500. Apparently they never ran the credit card? nor contacted me about why they didn't run it. My plumbing backed up. I tried calling McCrea plumbing and was told they didn't do outside plumbing but they have a sister company, American Rooter and Drain, that would do the job. I was told by the young man that if I paid $1600, he would hydrojet my line to the alleys main line, and I would be up and running that day. As soon as the water broke through, he stopped (about 15 feet out) and put his camera in the drain. He showed us a root ball in the drain, and said he had to call his Supervisor, Benjamin. He showed up and the con was on. He said I had to have 2 sections dug up and new pipe put in. The young kid that had called him told me if something was wrong, the $1600 would go towards the repair. Benjamin told me it would not. He wanted $7000 more to finish this job. I felt very pressured and wrote a check for half the money. I was going to pay the other half when they finished. Twenty minutes after they left, I texted Benjamin and said bring my check back. I don't want them to do that work. I found out that hydrojet blows right through root balls . I had to go through more of his high pressure sales pitch, but I said I will take my chances. My son texted him 3 times to come back and finish the $1600 job of blowing out the entire main line to the alley. They did not respond. I have called other plumbers and was told this price was outrageous. On my receipt the first words are "cleaning out the entire main drain system is often the best value and best practice whenever your main drain line has been running poorly or backing up" which I told him wasn't the case. It was just a sudden clog. My next course of action will be in court. read more
