I am so impressed with this company it's hard to put into words. I've had them out to my home on five separate occasions. I hate to admit it, but most of the problems I've had with my hot tub have been due to user error, yet they have been able to fix each item without any trouble. But that's what a service company is suppose to do, right? The high regard in which I hold this company goes beyond just good service, but the FIRST CLASS ETHICS in which they conduct their business. The most current visit was today, where a new pump was installed. After the installation was completed, it was determined the old pump was technically still under warranty, however the damage to it was not covered. Essentially, I should have been held responsible for the cost of the new pump. However, because the proper protocol by their staff hadn't been followed... basically paperwork not filled out before the installation... I have received the pump for free!! The cost should have been $600!! I spoke with Todd, telling him I wasn't comfortable with shirking my responsibility to pay, but he was adamant about the fact that because it was their error, I was not to be charged!! I was dumbfounded, not only because a company would stand behind their service... but make an admission of and take responsibility for an administrative error!! For me this has been an eye opening event! I feel like I'm somehow taking advantage of a situation, but Todd reassured me this is how they wanted the situation handled. My review of this company is all about Paul who services our spa every two weeks. He is a wonderful face of the company and truly cares about us and our spa. He is always pleasant, courteous, and professional. In my few interactions with the office they have been less than stellar bordering on unprofessional. These guys are great. Called the office and got the usual service window from 12-2. Charles arrived right at 12. We have a custom cedar hot tub with a complicated hyrbrid gas-electrivc system that never worked quite right. Charles went through the whole system, spent an hour on the phone with the dealer from Canada, then rewired the the system and got it working perfectly. It turned out to be very hard to find a company that specializes in spas and can service tub jets. My air switch was not working. They were able to replace it in a timely matter. The cost seemed like a lot for the small part but I have no idea what was involved so i cannot really judge. Either way, they got it fixed. Jesse was very nice. read more

DO NOT USE their services I am so sorry I didn't read carefully more reviews about this company. The guy who did repair of my spa, Jesse, was really nice. However, the man at the office - my God! This guy - never mentioned his name - has to be kept away from any customers. He is not only rude, he is extreme. They repaired my Spa and changed the pump on Wednesday, and of course the Spa was working after that. However, I had to change the water because it was dirty, probably due to residues from the new equipment. Now the Spa is not working, the gauge which I used to unwind and prime the pumps is not working, not unwinding, which was not the case for three years since I have had this spa. Naturally, I asked them to come over and fix it. And this guy at the office: a) claimed IT IS MY FAULT because the spa worked after the repair - and "it was my responsibility" b) refused to send a technician over "all the way to Altadena" - (then, why did you accept the job in the first place?) c) refused to send a technician even when I offered to pay for the visit !!! d) called my insistence that they should do the service "ridiculous" d) escalated his tone and wording to me until finished it with the suggestion that I take my business anywhere else (wish I did that in the first place) I cannot believe I was being shouted at like I have not been in my life before! e) finally he HUNG UP the phone in the middle of my words Now, this is not only lack of customer service - it is complete disregard about basic principles such as customer care, warranty for a job done, simple politeness if you say! This is the first review I've written. I am really angry about these guys. They had to come out to my house about 10 times. That's always a problem. I was overcharged by hundreds of dollars. It took several months to get a new spa cover that I ordered through them. I was left with a broken service door and a hole where the old control panel used to be. They left the old panel but it was not attached. Stay away from these guys! read more

I recently switched from a different company because of dishonesty and horrible communication. So far they have been doing an excellent job. When my spa needed service, they sent someone right out who was straight-forward and honest with me about the repairs, even going so far as searching around for cheaper replacement parts. WISH I'D READ REVIEWS! AVOID! ACTUALLY AGGRESSIVE! I wish there were negative stars. We've been using this company for 2 years because they were already being used by the previous owners when we bought the house. Service seemed fine since we barely used the spa and it only needed cleaning twice a month. When our spa developed a leak the problems started. As much as I'd like to vent, I'll spare you the details. Short version: we were charged high technician fees and then sold a system for $1100 that we were guaranteed would fix the problem. It didn't. More technicians and fees and then a quote of $450 (which we were told was a bargain rate) to fix a new leak (that I now suspect was the issue all along). Not comforting: each technician said shady things about other people in the company. Weird. I called the owner, Todd, to discuss my frustration- it's important to note that I was calm, and although displeased, I did no yelling and tried only to have a conversation about my concerns in the hopes of reaching some agreement about how to make this right. I was about 60 seconds into the call, explaining the timeline of events when the owner interrupted me, was sarcastic, then became aggressive and rude beyond belief. I actually managed to stay calm and tried to get the conversation back on track but there was nothing I could say. He continued to be so condescending and then sounded like he was losing it and warned me he was about to hang up on me. He even said he was tired of "all these complaints"- I can only assume he meant other customers since I had never complained before. I gave him one more chance to see reason and when he insulted me again I told him I was at a loss and he was free to hang up and he did. He was so out of line I was really disturbed when I got off the phone. I almost didn't write this review because his company has our address and he actually scared me but I NEED TO SPARE OTHER PEOPLE THIS EXPERIENCE. YELP is great for giving good feedback to places you love but it's also for warning your community about aggressive people and companies to avoid. NOTE: Paul, our regular service guy who came to clean the spa every two weeks, was lovely and very easy to deal with. read more

Had a great experience with this company! Jesse came first, on-time and professional, immediately fixed our problem, but subsequently found a leak in our tub which could have caused us major problems. He sent Charles the next day, Charles was a trooper, earlier than expected and had to work his tail off to fix the leak in our tub. I mean it, crawling into spaces he shouldn't be able to fit and working very hard to move drawers and a full wall cabinet. The leak was bad enough that he would not leave us stranded. The company claimed he should have left us and come back later, but he stated he could not guarantee that he would make it back in time that day as he had many other customers, so he stayed and fixed what could have been a disaster, and in my book as a customer (and we all know the customer is always right!) DID THE RIGHT THING! Otherwise we could have had a possibly thousands of dollars in damage. Yes, he was late to his other appointments and we shall take the blame, and I hope these appointments were not emergencies as ours was, but I don't think anyone has not waited at least once for a repair man who was late and I think Charles would have done this for anyone with an emergency situation. Not many like him out there, and I hope the company appreciates his honesty and devotion. read more

I have never been less satisfied with a company. I had a jacuzzi pump and sump pump replaced by American Spa. It took several trips to get both of them working. Less than a year later, neither were working. I have since discovered that the jacuzzi pump was not new; it was a refurbished one. In addition, the sump pump was too large for the space. Before writing this review, I wrote to the company no less than four times asking them to come out and provide their input. I have not had the courtesy of a return call or e-mail. I have now retained a new company to replace what American Spa Service installed. read more

We have been using American Spa Services for several years. We have been fortunate to have Jesse service our spa which is 20 years old and in very good shape but having minor problems. Jesse was always able to find the problems and repair them with minimal fuss. It got to the point we thought we would have to buy a new spa but Jesse was able to recommend a solution which saved us a lot of money. He is knowledgable and a true professional. Extremely disappointing experience: a poor service call followed up by even worse customer care by the owner / manager. Tech came out for diagnostic and service call. Diagnosed the problem but didn't have the right part, couldn't get it in time to make the repair we needed by when we wanted it done - so far so good I guess (except for the fact that within an hour I had ordered the part online and had it by 1030a the next morning, but whatever, it wasn't important enough for them to meet the timeline to make the repair - so... just take the $75 service call fee & move on?). But then, as we discovered later, the tech did a half assed job putting the equipment back together so when the timer kicked on water was spewing *everywhere* from the filter housing. When we called the office to register the complaint about the poor service, we were treated rudely, it was implied that perhaps the problem was with the equipment and not with the tech's failure to test the system once he put it back together. While I was able to get an apology for the poor service, my request for him to call my wife to apologize for the rude way in which she was treated was dismissively rebuffed. Extremely poor handling from this company on all fronts. Sure, the market is pretty thin for spa repair services. That doesn't justify poor service and worse customer care. i have called on the 12/03/12 to schedule a next day appt between the hours 10am to 12pm. I also ask them to give me a 1 hour heads up. Todd calls me and leave me a message at 8:30am saying if i don't call back within the next 15 minutes, my appt gets cancelled. They have failed to tell me this important policy before hand, and also he was calling to come at 9am. I specifically requested an appt from 10am to 12pm. Todd was very rude, didn't want to take any responsibility for there part in notify a important piece of information. read more

I was so impressed with this service. My spa tub in a condo needed repair and access was complicated. Charles (the spa tech) communicated so perfectly what was needed and how it could best be done. He called me when I was on the road and patiently took care of every detail. It was great service and their office people are equally great. When I called originally, Todd actually encouraged me to call the original installer to see if it would save money. On his suggestion, I did, but it didn't work out. I am amazed at the reviews I found on here. I have used American Spa for 5 yrs now and have only had very good service from them. Most recently I had them out to check on a heating problem that turned out to be a dirty filter and I was only charged for a service call nothing more. I have used other spa services in LA and have found for the most part they provide very shoddy service . American spa service may be more expensive then others but you get what you pay for . They have a good warranty and they explained that warrenty to me in depth and the tech even went thru my chemicals to make sure I know how to use them. read more

Had a problem with my outdoor spa. The equipment manufacturer referred me to American Spa for service. I called them and spoke with Todd, the owner and the next day Jamie made a house call. He diagnosed the problem and told me what my options were. After I told him what I wanted to do he ordered the parts and several days later returned to install a new control system. Spa now works fine. I received great service and paid a reasonable price. I will use them again if there's a problem with my spa and highly recommend them to others. read more

The first time I called the recording said I would get a call back in 15 minutes. 3 days later, after hearing nothing, I called back. This time I got someone who was able to schedule a call to come to my house. There was a mistake in the day, no problem there. On the morning they were to arrive I got a call that I was not able to answer and no message was left. They never showed. We waited a couple more hours and called. "I'm sorry, you're in an area we do not service. We tried calling." I asked why didn't you leave a message when you called, just common courtesy or check to see that you can service the area first. No real answer. Wasted 1/2 my day and I had to take time off from work. Thanks. I'd give them zero stars but don't think that's an option. Beyond poor customer service. read more

Not happy. Our spa had a leak and needed a new pump. They came and "fixed" the leak only to have it leak again. Then they replaced the pump and fixed the leak once more. On and on. We've spent nearly $1,000 and my spa still leaks and has no working pump. When contacting the company we were told, "it's not our fault." That we have a lemon. I was in need a company that I could depend on, and mind you, this review is only on the Customer Service, not the actual repair as they will not be doing it. I called American and explained the issues with the spa, and that I had purchased it from HydroSpa, and that I was not able to rely on them to show up for service and could not take time off for them to not show up. I also asked if they could come on Saturday and he said no. He said that they always call 30 min before they came so that we had time to get home before they arrived. I had high hopes because he assured me that they would give us the call and I confirmed it a couple of times. Our appt was 4-6pm, my husband left work early so that he would not be late when they called. When he got home, he called me and said that he there at 415pm and there was a note on the door from the tech, and saying that he had a hectic morning and that it was not the company's fault that he forgot to bring our phone number and if I wanted to give the company a second chance to call them to reschedule. And that he tried to call the office to get our number, but that the office was closed. He did not even leave a number that we could reach him at. Really? Office hours are 8-5 and it was closed at 4. I called at 420pm trying to reach someone to get the tech back out and got the VM, so I knew it was not happening. I left a message indicating that the tech did not call first as promised and that my husband had left work early to be there, and that I needed the tech to come back out. This morning I received a call and he said, "This is American Spa returning your call, what can we do for you?", when I started to retell what happened, he stopped me and said, "we know all about that, what can I do for you". Seriously? Well, that was enough for me. I told him that I contacted a company that would be coming on Saturday and he said okay and hung up. Really a sad commentary on customer service. While the tech seemed to be sorry in the note, it seemed that he could have left his number if he really wanted to get this done. Oh well. On to a third contractor. read more
