I am writing this review in regards to my experience with Paragon Mechanical. I recently purchased my Nest smart thermostat and installed it my self. I was having some trouble and contacted Nest Support. Nest then ran some tests and determined that my thermostat needed additional power for charging the base. This I was told was a simple job and could be done day of. Typical of my personality I am busy with work and life and I did not want them to come out and told them I would reschedule. Nest offered to pay for this service, so this service call was at no charge to me!(Kudos to Nest Products) They gave me three HVAC service companies to choose from. The first I called had called was Four Seasons, the attended was very friendly she informed me of the charges, they seamed high to me due to a simple job and the Nest Technician asked me to try and stay below $200. So I decided to call the next one and see their charge based on the needed service "a common wire needed to be added for charging". I proceeded to contact Paragon Mechanical, a man named Steven answered and he was very personable to talk about the service he needed. He informed me of the rates but he also let me know that if the job was less complicated then expected they would be happy to adjust the "normal rates" I asked him if he had anyone who could come out today? He said he did. The employee put me on hold as I think there was a manager training him on what information he needed to collect. Since I liked the more flexible interaction with Paragon Mechanical vs Four Seasons I decided to go with them. He gave me a 2 hour window and I was able to go back to work. The staff and technician were extremely responsive to my calls. When Elliott arrived the first thing he did was remove his shoes. Elliott was very professional and knowledgeable. I was able to ask him many of my questions and he knew all of the answers. He also checked the general health of my system and it looked good. He checked the filter and talked about how to replace them. I had a genuinely great conversation with Elliott, I would highly recommend this company to my family and friends. read more

We have a pretty old furnace (roughly 22 years old) and a Nest thermostat. On one of the coldest days of the year, we woke up, the house was freezing, and there was an error message on the Nest saying that there was insufficient power going to the Nest. After working through the recommended troubleshooting methods and calling Nest customer service to no avail, I decided that most likely the problem was the 22 year old furnace and not the 3 month old Nest thermostat. I called the company that normally cleans and checks our furnace, which was just the company the prior owners that lived in our house used, and after dong some tests he told us that the problem did in fact appear to be the thermostat, that it was broken and unfixable, then also declared for completely unrelated reasons that the furnace was unsafe and told us that we needed to purchase a new high efficiency furnace, humidifier, and air conditioner (even though he never looked at the latter two, but after all, they were old, and MUST not be in working condition), and of course a new thermostat. Needless to say, before moving forward with anything this guy was trying to sell we decided to get a second opinion. I decided to contact someone with some familiarity with Nest thermostats, I was convinced it wasn't broken because it was giving us a specific error message and the display was still working. The highest recommended place on the Nest website for our area was Paragon, and they didn't disappoint. They correctly diagnosed the problem with the Nest after just hearing it on the phone, and the service technician was able to come over a few hours later and fix it. He also checked our furnace and told us he felt it was safe. Even though our furnace is old and likely needs replacing soon anyways, we were glad to know that we didn't need to rush into doing so. Paragon really exceeded our expectations and did an excellent job when we were in desperate need. read more

I had a new furnace and water heater installed a few weeks ago. I requested estimates/proposals from several companies, among those Four Seasons, ARS, Sears Home Services and Abt. I picked Paragon Mechanical to do the job. Why? Kevin Polka responded at 6:30 am to an email request I sent the previous night. He kept communication over my preferred channel - email, unlike others, who insisted on a phone call. He came to my house twice, patiently explaining available options and answering questions. We were able to negotiate a solution that was competitively priced, yet it included advanced Trane and Rheem equipment. Installation scheduling was prompt and easy. On the day of the installation, the technicians Doug and Don arrived as scheduled, and went about their work as an experienced team. They were responsive and knowledgeable in answering questions and explaining details. Equipment delivery and old-equipment removal was well organized - a couple of other folks showed up to help. They all protected the flooring and the interior of the house. Doug and Don completed the work in the early afternoon. They ran tests to ensure that everything works as expected. They explained the company's service plan and answered all additional equipment and warranty questions. All paperwork was completed and signed electronically. No immediate payment was required, and no unexpected charges were added. I was billed by the company a couple of weeks later, and the invoices were sent both electronically and by mail. I'm very happy with the quality of their work and with the equipment's performance so far. I'd gladly hire them again and recommend them to anyone asking. Thank you, Paragon Mechanical. If you live in the Chicago area and want to upgrade to a tank-less hot water heater go with Paragon Mechanical. I highly recommend Paragon Mechanical to anyone who needs quality plumbers with advanced knowledge of related matters (i.e. tank-less heaters, etc.).  These guys care, are talented, and it definitely shows in their pride of work.  It started with Kevin... He came out to survey my place and walked me thru the pros and cons of the various tank less units. He sold me on Paragon Mechanical commitment to customer service and getting the install right the 1st time.  Out of the 5 other companies that came out for the job estimate, Paragon Mechanical were the only ones that cared about the Job and didn't want a deposit up front.   Day of install, I received an email and text informing me they were on the way. The installation was well-done, good materials used, and everything was neat and tidy when they left. Doug and Derek even fixed a small issue with my steam shower.  When done, they talked me thru the operation of the unit and briefed me on what to do in the highly unlikely event that a problem occurs. The Noritz NRC111DV is high powered and quiet... We just tested it out... Filled the tub and took a shower... No prob... Before, we could only fill ¾ of the tub with hot water before running out and then had to wait 30mins before taking a shower. Welcome to endless hot water! Paragon Mechanical came to our home not once but twice this week for two different reasons. Yesterday, Andre and Tom were here to install a new Noritz tankless water heater. Given the coronavirus pandemic, they exercised proper caution from the start, including facial masks and covers for their shoes, and a dropcloth on our floor in the area they were working. The job they did installing the water heater was thorough and prompt - and we appreciate how they considered the best options, given the space and configuration of pipes. By the way, it was Kevin who took the time on the phone to explain the benefits of the efficient Noritz model and to get our appointment on the schedule. Then today, Christopher came for the annual maintenance check of our air conditioner. Though the ground and roof where our air conditioning unit is were wet from heavy rains last night, he was able to carefully go ahead and perform a number of diagnostic checks on the air conditioner. He later explained what he examined and showed us pictures of the unit. We like how Paragon takes pictures of their work, not only to document it but to give employees who come here in the future a heads-up about what HVAC equipment we have so there are no surprises. In summary, all three workers this week - Andre and Tom and Christopher - were friendly and professional, and we thank them and Paragon Mechanical for their help. read more

For many years I used the same company for servicing my HVAC Forced Air and Boilers, it was a local company that sold out after the owner retired about 3 season ago. I have had several service companies out since (the ones where it's $79 per piece of equipment)their service people either didn't understand how to service my equipment or didn't want to take the time to service it properly. In one instance the service tech didn't connect the gas line properly, in another instance with a different company they wanted to completely drain my radiant system because of "air bubbles" in the system, if they did that then I would have had more "air bubble" not less of course this was because they were trying to sell me "additional services" I am fairly familiar with my system and what is needed and the technology of how it works. I then came across Paragon, during my phone interview with them they explained their philosophy which is a little different, they charge a fair hourly rate and their service technician spent the time necessary to do the correct servicing of my system. I think that he spent about the same amount of time my original service company did and he did a great job and didn't try to sell me something I didn't need. read more

Great service! I called needing help for our Nest thermostat, installing 3 Nest protect smoke alarms, as well as possible check for our AC unit. The kicker is that our AC unit is on the roof and there is no way to get there unless you have a 40' ladder. They scheduled a day and time with us, gave us clear pricing for the visit, and projected price depending on time and needs. They then called the day before to explain that because we needed a 40' ladder, it required them to have 2 people, which would also cost much more money. They recommended that most likely the issue was due to wiring on the nest thermostat and not the AC unit (according to our earlier conversation), and to save us money (it would have been potentially 2x the cost to have 2 people), they recommended to send out 1 person to check the wiring and do the installations. They also left enough time from when they called to explain that and when the appointment was scheduled for me to change my mind if needed. Ultimately, it was a thoughtful plan which saved us time and money, and delivered on the service we needed, and didn't try to upsell us. I will absolutely use them again. The office staff and engineer were absolutely fabulous, nice, just perfect! read more

I have nothing but great things to say about Paragon Mechanical, Inc. My NEST Thermostat died on me, due to a missing "common" wire at 10:00p on a Sunday night. I called Paragon the next morning, after not hearing back from a competing HVAC company. I am so glad that the competition never called me back. When I called Paragon, I spoke to someone right away. I was not having to work my way through an automated message system. They were able to send out a technician that day, and I did not have to suffer a snow storm Monday evening, without heat. Doug Dienelt was our technician and I couldn't be more pleased with his professionalism, his knowledge, and his personality. Doug ran a new "common" wire from our thermostat to our basement without any issues, and was able to fix the problem quickly. Doug was in and out of our home in less than an hour. In addition he took the time to explain what he was doing, and even cleaned up the small amount of dry wall dust off of our floor before he left. I can't say enough about Paragon Mechanical. If you need HVAC for any reason, including pros that know the ins and outs of a NEST thermostat, I highly recommend Paragon. Thank you Doug, and thank you Paragon for such great service!! read more

Easily the best service visit experience from end-to-end. Scheduling an appointment was easy and they provided convenient times within a reasonable time period. The person on the phone gave me clear options with regard to buying the Nest myself or purchasing the thermostat from them directly (including the difference in cost and warranties - I ended up purchasing two Nests from Paragon directly). I also arranged for Paragon to perform normal cleaning and maintenance on my two HVAC systems, including troubleshooting our humidifier system, which had never worked since we moved in. Paragon regularly communicated with me until my service appointment, including sending me a text and an email on the morning of the appointment to let me know that my technician - Elliott B. - was on his way. The email included the technician's contact information, summary of experience and a photo. Elliot arrived promptly and was courteous, efficient, expert and helpful. He also finished the job one hour more quickly than quoted, even after taking the time to show me how to use various functions to control my new Nest Pro thermostat. I would definitely recommend Paragon and plan to use them again for my future service needs. read more

Elliott arrived as scheduled to assess the problems with our Bosch tankless water heater. He explained to us clearly what was wrong with our water heater and we determined it would be better to replace the water heater than to repair it. I was then contacted by Kevin Polka who explained the various options available to replace the water heater. Kevin answered all of my numerous questions and sent me a clear proposal after we chose to replace our Bosch tankless water heater with two Noritz tankless water heaters. Then, Don and Doug arrived yesterday as scheduled to complete the work. The water heaters and piping were installed without a problem. They look great and our basement was left cleaner than before they started the work. The water heaters are working great and for the first time in a long time I was able to shower without being burned or freezing!!! I was extremely impressed by all the Paragon team and am looking forward to hiring them for the maintenance of the water heaters. The whole contract and installation process went without a problem, unlike the installation of our original Bosch tankless water heater several years ago. read more

We have been a customer of Paragon Mechanical for two years and have been delighted to find a well trained and knowledgeable company with great customer service to maintain the high efficiency boiler in our home. We have a Lochinvar Knight high efficiency boiler and located Paragon through the service contractor locator feature of the Lochinvar website. We saw from the website that Paragon was one of the few contractors in the area that had completed the training on our system (along with several other Lochinvar products). Chris Solomianko is the Paragon technician who has serviced the boiler in our home the past two years and he has done a great job. Chris cleaned the boiler to keep it running at maximum efficiency and performed all the recommended service checks. He spotted some subtle wear signs on parts so that they could be replaced before they could lead to major repairs or loss of heat. Chris provided a clear explanation of the work he was doing and even showed before and after photos. After investing in a modern boiler for our older home it is comforting to have confidence in Paragon Mechanical to keep it running well. read more

Elliott Blaszczyk and Trey Draffkorn arrived graciously on time and swiftly installed our new 3rd generation Nest Learning Thermostat. Having had tons of experience, they were able to get the job done in under 30 minutes. Our old thermostat was an '80s era, unsightly brick that desperately needed to go. Fortunately, all the necessary wires were readily available off the old thermostat. Elliott and Trey took the time to ensure the trim plate was attached properly so that it would cover the vacant space in the wall and not appear uneven, as had initially been the case. Once installed, Trey assisted with the setup, including connecting the Nest to Wi-Fi and adding the thermostat on my phone's Nest app so that it could be controlled remotely. In a matter of minutes, the Nest was up and running. The entire process was quick and seamless and could not have been better. Elliott and Trey were extremely polite, answered all of my questions and took the time to demonstrate the Nest and its many features. I am extremely pleased with Paragon Mechanical's service and would highly recommend Elliott and Trey! read more

Just recently moved into a older house (c. 1925) with a 34-year-old boiler and radiator heating. Removed the thermostat while painting the walls and when we re-attached it the heat wouldn't turn on. Decided to replace it with our Nest thermostat but couldn't get that to work. Nest Support recommended getting a certified Nest Pro out to look at it. Called two other HVAC companies certified by Nest and neither would come out to look because they "don't work with customer-supplied equipment." Finally called Paragon and Steve set us up with Chris Solomianko, their resident boiler expert. Chris made the two-hour drive down to St. Charles and had this fixed in less than an hour. Involved getting into nearly every area of the house -- outside to see the A/C unit, into the attic to see the blower and add a common wire, and then down into the basement to install a relay. Chris was incredibly knowledgeable about what he was doing and explained everything to me along the way, which gave me a much better understanding of the heating and cooling systems in my new home. Originally contacted them for repair of a malfunctioning Eternal H2O heater. They provided quick response, great service and patiently answered all my questions. (Sorry don't recall the name of the great technician who fixed the problem) When it came time to (proactively) replace the Eternal several years later I contacted them again. This time we elected to install a Lochinvar Boiler. (This unit provides domestic hot water, backup heat to our central HVAC in case of primary unit failure, and hot water to a section of our house that uses radiant floor heating). Our questions were thoughtfully considered and answered. Based on this we accepted their proposal. Our installer (Doug) reviewed my requests and answered (more) questions with patience and enthusiasm. The installation was smooth. The general contractor who has been involved with several remodeling jobs at our house was also favorably impressed with the project. He confirmed with another HVAC contractor he has used for 10 yrs + that Lochinvar was indeed top-of the line. Would not hesitate to recommend Paragon! read more

We have had some bad luck with service technicians lately, but Paragon Mechanical's Doug Dienelt and Andrew Johnston were absolutely awesome! They were incredibly hard working and skilled technicians who installed our tankless system yesterday. I received a call letting me know that they were going to be about a half hour late, due to an emergency before my appointment, which was very courteous and thoughtful of my time. When they got to my house, they worked tirelessly all day, nonstop, to get the big job done! Not only did they do it well, but they checked every faucet in the house to make sure that it was up to par with their standards before beginning their meticulous clean-up. I am so thankful that we chose Paragon Mechanical to do the work instead of going with any of the other 8 providers I received quotes from. They were knowledgeable, courteous, great at problem solving, communicative, and hard working. I couldn't have asked for better service. read more

Paragon did a great job installing a tankless water heater for our vintage Chicago bungalow home. We got bids from a few contractors for the job and decided to use Paragon even though they were not the lowest bidder, primarily because Kevin took the time to prepare a thorough proposal. He visited the basement, checked out the plumbing and gas lines, noted that we would need a new gas line run, took photos, made measurements and sent us a quote shortly afterward. It was obvious that he had a lot of experience with tankless heaters. The installers, Doug and Jeff, arrived on time and did a great job. It was a full day for them -- there's a lot of work involved in switching from a hot water tank to a tankless heater, especially in an older house -- but they were well-prepared and completed a very professional installation. Overall, it was an excellent experience and we will definitely be using Paragon for our future heating/cooling projects. read more

My older parents have had a 3 year old boiler that we were not able to get to start with any consistency come the beginning of the cold weather. We were ready to get rid of it and begin again with a simpler model. However, after contacting customer service of the manufacturer of the unit, I was able to get the name of Paragon who is certified in servicing this unit. Chris showed up and really knew this equipment. Not only did he point out how our original installation was the cause of our problems, but was able to make recommendations to correct the problems as well as have the unit work correctly for the first time since we had it. We are so happy to have this company be our resource. We set up a service agreement to have it serviced at the beginning of the cold weather. I contacted Paragon for a wiring problem with my Nest thermostat., back story- I have a boiler for heat and a space pak air handler with a Lenox condenser. The thermostat worked fine for approximately 4 months with the heat but when switched over to ac the Nest battery drained. I did research and found it to be a problem with the common wire. My technician was Elliot, he called and I received a text message/email of his credentials prior to his arrival. Elliot was great, he checked the wiring and figured out the problem in a timely manner, it was determined that the Nest is essentially "not compatible" with my system ( new wiring and a relay would have to be installed. I appreciate that the technician was honest and didn't try to push me towards more work that would have cost more than the what benefits of the Nest are worth. It still cost me a fee $218., their standard fee but I would recommend and use them again. read more

I wanted to take a minute to write a raving review for Paragon Mechanical. The owner Kevin and his team have the right idea when it comes to customer service and support. My family just purchased a new foreclosed home and we have a lot of work that needs to be done. I received nightmare support and a nightmare bill from an "old school" HVAC company. I paid the company to leave me forever and then began my search for an HVAC company that could keep up with modern technology, and at the same time give me high quality traditional HVAC support and I found it with Paragon. From front to back their business model is superb and they won't quote you low, but surprise you with a high bill as other companies have done to me. I urge you reading to please use them.
