Please save time, money, and your sanity by avoiding American Tow in Martinez, Concord, Pleasant Hill, etc. If you've had your car towed, it's frustrating, expensive, upsetting, all of the above. And the last thing you want on top of everything else is to confront an unprofessional, disrespectful, and discombobulated towing company who doesn't know their own addresses or phone numbers. Because of their "miscommunications," we spent spent nearly $100 in Ubers trying to find their unmarked tow yard and offices with incorrect addresses. After nearly 3 hours, we finally located their building (thanks to the CHP). I explained our experience to VANESSA, the secretary with the blue in her hair, about our customer experience and expressed we were very unsatisfied customers and had never had such a poor customer-service experience. While sitting in the lobby, I told my boyfriend I refused to pay for another Uber and it was up to the company to provide an ounce of customer service. Immediately I hear Vanessa start yelling from behind me. "You know what, now you're really starting to annoy me. I didn't get your car towed, YOU DID. NOT ME. YOU GOT YOUR CAR TOWED! THIS IS ON YOU." Her mocking / shaming me continued for about 15 seconds until I was able to get my phone and begin filming her. She stopped immediately. I will be taking this to higher management with a formal complaint, but also wanted to warn my fellow Martinez neighbors of this company, and be sure to make it a point to avoid that particular office in Martinez. read more

I'm not a fan of towing companies in general, so I admit to my negative bias upfront. My girlfriend had her car stolen from her home in Sunnyvale and eventually recovered in San Ramon. Apparently the police department doesn't do their own towing, and outsourced to American Tow. After two hours of waiting and paperwork to get the release form, we called American Tow to pick up the car. No answer. We tried calling a few times and finally got an answer. Apparently they are more than happy to tow your car on a weekend, but if you want the car back, there's an extra weekend fee. We waited another two hours for the driver to come open the office and another hour The driver we eventually met at the office was friendly and helpful. He was nice and willing to help as much as he could. +1 for nice service. I had to laugh at the way they process credit cards. No Square reader or even antiquated POS - he literally had to call it in. I suppose this isn't too shocking after seeing the office - everything looks like it came from a nearby rummage sale especially the 1940s arm chairs. The car was banged up from the joyride, so no way to say how good of care they took of the car, I'm afraid. read more

We called Geico and they notified American Tow. We received text saying 90 mins. 90 mins went by and we called several times only to be told several times we were next up in queue. After 3 1/2 hours we decided they were NOT going to show up and called to cancel. We called ABC TOW & THEY CAME IN 12 MINS. Because of American Tow and GEICO (LACK OF ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE) I paid 175.00 to tow my car 5 miles away And... signed up with AAA Roadside assistance ($152.00 / yr). Special shout out to both American Tow and Geico for wasting damn near 4 hours of our lives waiting for a tow truck. read more

Called for a tow the night before and scheduled it for pick up the following day at 3:30pm. American Tow sends me a text with an estimated arrival time at 3:38pm. However the tow company arrives at 5pm. Service was average for a tow company. Just poor excuses from the tow dispatch as to the late arrival. I would use another company. This is the second time that I've used them and both times they were late. read more

As much as the claim they do a honest business, it's not very true, they are always on the hunt to steal other tow truck companies tows. It's not the first time they've done this, it happened multiple time. The CHP as well as AAA have been informed. read more

Thank you Jonathan! I've invested lots of money into my car; from one-off body work, suspension, exhaust, lighting, etc. I'm extremely meticulous about who works with or around my car. And while it's only a car, its my car. I ran into an incident over the weekend that left me on the side of Highway 24. I called my insurance company and they contacted their contracted company, American Tow. I was met by a gentlemen with a flat-bed truck. Knowing full-well that some tow companies won't even look at your vehicle if its lowered, I became weary. Fast forward to a few short moments later and my car is on the back of this flatbed, with not any close instance of trouble. I was impressed (as well as relieved!). Jonathan was able to get my car into my garage, bypassing my short 3ft, steep driveway, without issue. I couldn't be more pleased with his services and tact. Car was down and out at the mechanics. Some kind of fuel pump issue. Got american tow to come pick it up. Leo was amazing made my tow experience alot more easy going. We picked up our brand new Audi yesterday and it completely shut down after driving 20 miles. Needless to say, we were not pleased at all. The tow company Audi Care called was over two hours late and we had to leave the car overnight in a parking lot because it wouldn't go into neutral and we didn't want it dragged. This morning, we went back to the vehicle, Audi met us there and got the car into neutral. Luke from American Tow showed up (different company than the clowns they called last night) and was on time, careful with the car, and got it to the Audi dealership safe and sound. I was very impressed with Luke and the way he went about his business. Great job. read more

Crooks and thieves running a quasi-legal extortion racket. They tow your car, make it difficult to get it back and charge you $80/day storage while they have it. If you are calling for a tow, don't use them. If they towed your car, good luck getting it back. I bet you pay excessive storage fees. My experience - I went to pick my car up Friday before July 4th weekend. I called that morning and was told I should get there by 5:00. I arrived at 3:00 and the office had closed early. I couldn't get my car until Tuesday and was charged for all those days. I had to pay - they were holding my car hostage. I asked to speak to the owner, Randy, but he wouldn't talk to me. The most annoying part was the attitude that this was my problem - they had no obligation to actually be there during their posted hours. But thanks for the $80/day. read more

American Tow was punctual, actually a little early, and very curious. They went to great care in loading and securing my car. Leo was very professional and made me feel comfortable that my car was safe. I had used American Tow a few years ago and they again provided excellent service. read more

So I got two flat tires and was stuck on Alcoata Dr and called my insurance company to get a tow truck service. Was referred to island tow and when I was inquiring with island tow what was their eta was, the lady on the phone was rude and had an attitude and said they weren't able to make it in time and canceled my tow service and for me to call my insurance back to have some else who could make it in an hour. I called my ins co back and they got me American tow and told me they would be there in 45 min! I had to get to Big O by 3 pm to get my tires repaired because they close at 4pm. American tow got there in 45 min as promised. Great job to them! I made it to Big O to get my flats fixed. Whew. read more

My 2012 Nissan Leaf ran out of miles and I was stuck! I had attempted to charge at multiple nearby stations, but without success as they were either not functioning, closed, out of power, or only for usage for workers with a specific access card. I called American Tow and was helped in a very timely manner! I highly recommend Leo, who came to rescue me, because he made the process and experience amazing! Of course I was upset that my car was stuck, but I was glad that I had someone as amazing and knowledgeable as Leo to fix the situation! In just the short time Leo was helping me, I immediately sensed his enormous compassion and genuine care that he has for all his customers as well as his big heart. Leo truly has a colossal desire to help each and every customer and quickly alleviate any concerns they may have.
