My water softener leaked, causing significant damage to my garage, walls, and mold infestation. Initially, the company was very supportive. They sent a technician out within an hour, who found a leak and observed it dripping. I have pictures and videos with the technicians. However, they had difficulty locating the leak, initially suspecting several different places. They shut off the water supply and replaced the bucket. Since the walls were damaged and moldy, they sent someone out who is not affiliated with the company. This individual noticed the damage and cut out sheetrock on two sides to remove the rapidly spreading mold. He managed to remove most of the mold, but not all of it. Consequently, I now have a large hole from my garage to my children's bedroom. Dustin sent an insurance adjuster., visited the scene to review the damage. Several weeks passed, and I had left several messages for him. Finally, he called back today and informed me that they are not expecting responsibility because they tested the jug and could not find any leak. Nevertheless, I have pictures and videos with the technicians showing the leak! Therefore, we have been exposed to dangerous mold for an extended period. I now have no choice but to involve my attorney and pursue legal action against the company and everyone involved, including the individual Dustin sent to repair the leak who left significant holes. After speaking with him, they have yet to even pay him. Customers should be cautious and aware that this company does not provide adequate product support. I will fully sue them to serve as a warning and prevent similar situations from occurring in the future, especially since I have all the evidence. Updating after their response. First of all, I love the Kinetico system. It doesn't use electricity It uses very little salt. It has been reliable for the 4-5 years we have had the system. American Water is something else. From the very beginning we have had trouble. The salesman who came to our house misled us on the cost of the unit by $800. Seems he was a relative of the owner. The owner struck a deal and we split the difference. Then the installer comes. It seems, in mid-job, he had to go pick up a boat or trailer or something. He left the work site in middle of the everything and didn't return until after dark. After dark he couldn't find the water supply and I was informed that was MY job. Eventually, we got the unit installed and it worked nicely for four years. Once again American water enters the picture. After a freeze we had a line break. The first service appointment we could get was two weeks later (OK, the weather created a backlog, I get it). The repairman finally comes out. He literally just cut off a 2-inch piece of the line and plugs it back in -- and charges me $165. It took him 2-3 minutes. He spent 15 minutes trying to sell me some extra service for $299. The next day I say to my wife: this water isn't soft. I go out and the system is not running. Now, trying to call American Water is an experience in itself. No one ever seems to be at their desk to take a phone call. So you wait for a call back. And wait. And wait. The system itself 5 stars; American Water minus 4 stars. There are probably a number of Kinetico dealers in Central Texas. They must be better than American Water. I am posting a one star due to the lack of response and acknowledgement of ownership and negligence by American Water in Round Rock and the corporate office. I have called and sent letters with no response. In summary, I had a water leak that was caused from the water softener, I had the existing unit serviced and eventually replaced. When the softener was replaced, American Water did not check the lines from the softener to the water main and I had a continuous flow of 25 gallons of water per hour. I called a leak detection service and a plumber only to find out that it was negligence on the install of the water softener. I reached out to American Water for remediation on several occasions and they never responded. What's worse is the new water softener is malfunctioning, the tap water is foaming with salt, the unit is under a 10 year warranty and I dread having to reach out to the company. He assessed our property and chose the best possible solution for how to access the water main and get our new water softener installed in the ideal location. He even took extra care around some new landscaping we had done that happened to be right in the area where they needed to dig. When they were done it looked exactly as it did before. I can't emphasize enough how respectful and professional Bubba and team were with this install. They went over in detail all of the instructions and operations of the system, respectfully answered all of our questions, and made us feel proud of what we just purchased, and that we made the right choice. Wow, somehow I forgot to update this. So... within minutes of posting that last review, I got a phone call from Sharla. Sharla- "Sorry you missed my call." Me- "Oh, when did you call? It kinda seems like you're calling about my review." Sharla- "No......uh..... I called you earlier today." Me- "That's odd, I'm always on call and always carry my phone. It never rang and I didn't get a voicemail. Did you leave a message?" Sharla- "Well, I've reached you now. How can I help you?" The whole thing was weird. Why not just say sorry she was busy rather than try to blame me? Anyhow, I declined to use their services after that experience. I received another call shortly after from a man who said he was the owner. He was polite, apologetic, and understanding of my discomfort in dealing with them further. UPDATE: I've changed my review to 4 stars. It was very frustrating trying to schedule a follow up but I understand that this was after an unprecedented weather event that no one was prepared for. It took a few weeks but I felt great relief knowing I was on the books and scheduled. David came by today and quickly identified the issue. He quickly resolved it in a professional manner and my drinking system is up and generating water again. I bought a full home softener and drinking water filter from this company about 3 years ago. The installation and product itself were very good but now that we've encountered our first problem with our drinking water filter, the company is impossible to work with. I understand they are likely under heavy strain from the fallout of the winter storm but I've been trying unsuccessfully for going on two weeks now to get a call back to inquire about a service call. I called three times this week and left my name, phone number and address each time and was assured I'd get a call back during the week. Our neighborhood's water is awful so I have no choice but to go out during a pandemic to find bottled drinking water. My first call to the company was on the 17th of February, and today, on the 27th, three calls later, I am nowhere closer to figuring out what is wrong with our drinking water system. read more

American Water and their team installed a Kinetico Q850 and a K5 RO drinking water system in my house about a year ago. It has changed the quality of our water drastically. No more do we have stinky, gross water to drink, but nice, clear and refreshing purified water! There are no more water spots on every dish or on the faucets. Our pipes and appliances are no longer gathering limestone and calcium build up that is notorious or where we live in Cedar Park. This investment is a must if you live with hard water! We've been receiving a free salt delivery service for the last year, and had one service call. Our unit became clogged and American Water sent a service member out quickly to flush it and correct the issue. Overall, we're very pleased with the company and the experience we've had. We had a softener installed the day we closed on our new home. Within a week, I had two leaks and two techs out to fix things that were installed incorrectly. About a month and a half later, I noticed that it didn't seem to be using salt. The receptionist tried to convince be it was because the system was very efficient but I still asked for someone to come out. Yet another tech came out and let me know that it was still not correct and we've actually not had soft water for 2 months. Unacceptable- especially given this unit cost over $5k. We have hard water where we live and the entire purpose of getting this installed day 1 was to protect our appliances, home finishes, and clothes. He supposedly fixed it. I called this week to request a partial refund due to all of the issues we have had. Got a call from Laura on Wednesday who was going to speak to her GM "right away" and still have not heard back. They've sent another tech out to double check that it is now working. Dustin needs a lesson in how to treat customers and not cut them off in the middle of every sentence. American water has the worst customer service of any company we've dealt with since moving into our home. I have yet to speak with anyone who takes accountability here. read more

On July 27, 2009, my wife and I sent out a market survey to 15 vendors of water filtration/water softeners in the Round Rock, Texas area. A challenge was issued to the vendors to explain to us how their system was better than the Kinetico system. All "they" wanted to do is come by the house and do a pressure sale to us. When I insisted on an email listing specs and details, all of them went away except for Jay with American Water. He was articulate and knowledgeable about the Kinetico system and educated us on the K5 drinking water station as well. We will always be grateful for his knowledge and assistance. We are in the process of building a new home and one of the first things we did was to get with American Water to make sure our new home will have the same system as our old one. I called this place up to request an estimate. Whoever I talked to asked if he could send someone out to my house to test my water and I said sure, stupidly thinking that they were doing this to determine what kind of water softener we would need so they could give us an exact price. The guy comes out and looks at the pre-plumbed place in our garage where the softener would go. Then he comes inside and does the water test, pointing out to us how horrible and terrible our water is, which we already knew. Then he launches into a sales pitch. I was absolutely livid. I just wanted a fucking estimate. He was there for *over an hour* telling us about all the different systems they had (which were outrageously pricey) and reminding us again and again how bad our water is. Hey American Water, I ALREADY KNEW OUR WATER IS HARD AND FULL OF CHLORINE AND ALL THAT OTHER SHIT. I DIDN'T NEED A SALES PITCH. WE HAD ALREADY MADE THE DECISION TO BUY A WATER SOFTENER AND JUST NEEDED A QUICK ESTIMATE. And the worst part was, as we tried to graciously say we would have to think it over to get this asshole out of our house, he kept trying to push their financing plan on us. I finally looked him in the eye with my best bitch face and said, "We'll have to talk about it." He finally took the hint and started packing up his things. He gave us his business card and I took it and put both his cell phone number and the company business number into my phone and blocked both numbers while he was still getting his things together. Did you hear that, Romaldo? Wondering why your calls always went straight to voicemail? That's right, you piece of shit. Thanks for wasting our time. Time has passed but my experience is still sour. I called another company immediately after hanging up with American Water and they had someone out within two hours. While the offer for discounted service was a fair olive branch, I missed ~4 hrs of work to make these two appointments and thirty dollars just doesn't cut it. I am writing this review to my experience with this company. My experience with Mr Watson was excellent his professional attitude and knowledge of their product is outstanding. The problem started with the the installers. They arrived the first day it took about 4 hrs for them to decide how to install the water source. I called my installer of my sprinkler system in which informed them where the main water line and house shut off was in order to assist them. The installers trenched two lines in my yard and at 2030 hrs informed me that there was something wrong with hooking up water source and that both my sprinklers and water softener was on the same line and would need to return the next day. The following day they returned to trench another line(3 lines trenched now) and then informed me there was a problem with my homes plumbing. I said there has never been a problem before and I have lived here for over 25 years, he stated well that does not mean the plumbing was not installed properly when the house was built. I called the main office with my frustration and the supervisor stated the installers found the problem ( meaning was not my homes my words) and supervisor apologized for the inconvenience and the installers must be tired because they were at my residents late the nite before. (I guess my fault for the lack of knowledge and them staying late). After all said the only line that had to be trenched should have been (1) not (3). I am so tired of excuses made be this company for there lack of knowledge. I payed $695.00 for installers to come, dig three trenches when only one was need and 2 days for a one day job and not to mention my time and frustration with this experience. read more

I am thrilled with the products and the services we have received. I would recommend this product and American Water to anyone who will listen. We spoke with 3 different water filtration companies and American Water in Round Rock was definitely the one. We have not regretted our decision. Donny was honest and knowledgeable. The Kinetico system made a difference in our pipes and toilet tanks in about 3 days. With the RO option, it is so nice to feel good about the water we drink and bathe in. We knew the kitchen was going to be remodeled soon and American Water built the removal and re-installation of the system into our contract so we wouldn't have to worry about voiding the warranty. Just had the Kinetico 735 water softener and A200 reverse osmosis system installed a few days ago. Donny came a few weeks prior, tested our water and gave information and a quote about the different systems. We had a couple other companies give quotes before deciding on American Water because of the superior product, better price, and customer service. And it's American made, can't find that everywhere these days. They were able to schedule us when we were available and were able to make it out early for the install. Austin was very professional and his plumbing work was clean and neat. He explained the system and answered any questions I had. I would definitely recommend American Water Conditioning for the servicing of water softeners. The office staff was very helpful and my technician was friendly, knowledgeable and HONEST. I bought a house that came with a very old looking water softener system and I had never owned one before. The previous owner said it could probably use a cleaning and need to have salt added about once a month. For about 6 weeks all seemed to be fine until I tried tinkering with the system to see if I could figure out how it worked. I turned valves and dials and pushed buttons, etc. Long story short I came out the garage a few hours after tinkering with it and found the floor flooded with water from the system. I immediately started Google searching for any information I could on the system. All I could find was a spec sheet that was 15+ years old. I called the manufacturer and couldn't get anyone to talk to. Turns out my system was no longer made and the original manufacturer was taken over by Kinetico. So I again turned to Google and came across American Water and was happy to find out they were located less than 5 miles from my house. I called to see if I could get an appointment for a check-up and to see if someone could simply teach me how to use the system. Turns out they already had my system in their records and stated that it had not been serviced in over ten years. I was a little reluctant to schedule an appointment, as i assumed they would try to sell me a new system and I was definitely not in the market for one. I went ahead and scheduled a tech. the appointment was within one week. Here is where I became pleased with American Water. The tech (I wish I remembered his name) showed up on time and was very friendly. After some small talk he began to look over the system, which he did mention quite quickly, was very old and outdated. "Here we go" is all I could think. He looked everything over, ran and flushed the system for a few cycles, checked water quality and even checked the house water pressure with system both on and off. Being a contractor and a hands on guy myself, I was kind of hovering over him and playing close attention to what he was doing. When he finished he sat down to tell me what he found. "Here we go" was still running through my head. Instead of a sales pitch, he told me that, much to his surprise, everything seemed to be ok. He stated that the system was approximately 20 years old, uses outdated technology and probably won't last too many years longer, but as of that day, all was well. He did recommend that the carbon filler in the filter tank be replaced since he had no idea of it's age and that the life cycle was most likely over. He also recommended cleaning the salt tank and replacing all the pellets. I asked him why it leaked all over the garage (an answer I already knew) and he stated that the overflow valve switch didn't open and the water that should have drained out to the sewer line leaked out the top of the tank. He had checked the valve operation a few times and it appeared to be working just fine. He then spent about 15 minutes explaining the system controls and settings to me. He was very thorough and made sure I understood what was going on. Knowing that I had only booked a one hour appointment I figured I was going to have to schedule another appointment for the additional work. When I asked the tech, he did state that he had full day scheduled but would be happy to do the carbon replacement. He gave me a price, I agreed and he got right to it. While he was working on that I asked him about cleaning out the storage tank and he explained it very well. As he was finishing the carbon replacement, knowing he could clean the tank in a tenth of the time I could, I asked if he could do it for me. He said "no problem", gave me a price and got to work on that also. Since I live a mile from the store i ran up and bought new salt pellets so the system would be ready before he left. All in all the tech spent about two hours at my house. He was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I know had a "like-new" water softener and knew how to use it. I recommended them to all my neighbors for future servicing. I have since moved to a new house and don't know if i am going to install a new system. If i do, I will definitely call American Water. As a contractor for over 20 years myself, it's was nice to deal with an honest company like American Water. read more

I have used American Water for over twenty years with my existing RO system. This year they informed me that the filters were no longer available from the manufacturer. I was really unhappy at the prospect of having to replace a whole system that was working fine. I posted on yelp looking for suggestions, and heard back immediately from several, American Water being the first. They called me the next day first thing and made some suggestions that made saying "YES!" a very easy thing to do. Excellent service! Getting all our questions answered and scheduling with Donny was a breeze. We've had them out twice now; once to install a dechlorinator and we were so pleased with that, we had them out for a water softener install as well. After the first install we came across a leak near the new equipment and they sent someone out right away. Even though it turned out to not be an issue with their equipment, 2 of their guys stayed out until 7pm on a Friday night to take care of it for us! Who does that now a days?
